Paneer Steam Momo and Wai Wai Sadeko
    Nandi S.

Their mutton momos, paneer momos are family staples. Their wai wai chaat is life and im in love. Ive always had consistently good wholesome food here and never let down. For $1 their masala chai hits as well. Im picky about my chai and never invest outside. Service can vary but ive never had problems.

Immediately upon stepping in, this place felt super homey. Almost a full house too, but got a booth just in time. Service is notably slow. Had to flag the workers whenever we wanted their attention. Also, we ordered laphing and near the end of our meal, it still hadn't come out. They said it was sold out only after we asked. I enjoyed everything else though. Genuinely had that comfort taste of someone's home cooking. A worker from the kitchen came out several times to give us little refills of our thali platter. If I came back, I need to make sure to order the jhol momos. The steam ones are good, but I know the soup would elevate everything.

This place is all about the momos so its better to come with a small group so you can order a variety. They are nicely packed and on the larger side. The pan fried were my favorite of the versions we ordered which was surprising because I generally prefer jhol, but there's isn't the best version I've had. We tried the Sel Roti and its a good item to order for a little contrast - same with the Wai Wai Sadeko but if we didn't order these I would have been fine. We ordered a Goat Thali, but its probably not the best thing to share with a group - It would make a satisfy meal for one person, but not a lot to share. They have self service teas that they charge a $1 for - no unlimited refills on this. Service is decent enough, but I wasn't a fan of having to go up to the counter have them calculate the bill while you wait. I don't mind paying at the counter, but it would probably more efficient if they just brought a precalculated check to the table.

Got two different types of momos to try amongst three people. We wanted a light dinner so this was perfect! The flavor was amazing and the food came out pretty quickly. The restaurant wasn't too loud so it was nice to have a conversation. Would definitely come back again for the tasty momos. Theres also a discount if you pay with cash.

Casual, homey spot with great authentic Nepalese food. The momos are delicious- especially the Jhol momo. Other dishes we enjoyed were the Sel Roti and Thali- the Thali is a nice option if you're looking to try a variety of different sides with your rice/roti and choice of protein. And everything was pretty affordable overall. Definitely would come back- it's worth coming here for the momo alone!

Really friendly restaurant and servers. Food came out fast. Great seating, didn't have to wait at all. Great prices. I would go again for a warm cozy meal.

really good nepalese food thats also affordable. think this place has gotten pretty popular but for good reason. the momo and chowmein portions were pretty large and its pay at the counter when you're done.

Came here after hearing about all the accolades this place has gotten as the winners of a momo crawl and am perplexed as to why they won so many times. Ordered a large assortment of momos as well as other dishes to get the full range of items this place offers and while the momos were good, they weren't amazing nor did they pop out in any way. The best thing here that I tried? The seti roti, a deep fried rice batter with a fiery hot pepper dip that adds an extra layer of complexity

Bhanchha Ghar is easy to overlook if you're not paying attention. With multiple accolades praising their momos, my friends and I confirmed that their momos are indeed worth their weight in praise. Service seems to be manned by family and family friends and the general vibe is casual. It's an authentic mom and pop shop when the smallest sliver of air is coming from a ceiling AC that is too weak to cool the space. Fair warning for those who are looking for food on a hot day, prepare to sweat out all the food you're eating. Despite the heat, the momos were super flavorful. The chicken jhol momos were delightful and served in a tangy broth while the fried potato momos were well seasoned, crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. The only catch is that the fried potato momos harden when they cool down so have them quickly. Our group also tried the beef Sukuti which is a combination of beef jerky and multiple sides of vegetables and lentils. The sides were great but we weren't a big fan of the beef. And despite all the food we ordered, the meal was really cheap. Places like Bhanchha Gar prove that you don't need to look far in Jackson Heights for delicious and affordable ethnic food. I can only imagine how much business they get in the winter. Their jhol momos in the winter? Sounds like heaven in a bowl.

Nice food with many options. Nice friendly servers. Great prices for the amount of food you get. The only thing lacking was good air conditioning on a warm day.

I came here one day while I was in Jackson Heights and I'm so glad I did. The restaurant has plenty of seating and the place was cozy. The server was knowledgeable and helped me choose a dish. I ordered the goat jhol momos and they were phenomenal. This was my first time having momos with a sauce/gravy/soup. The sauce/gravy was flavorful and slightly spicy, just how I like it. The momo was perfectly steamed and smothered in the gravy. I added some chili oil and tried it with the sauces in the bottle - it was amazing. I also ordered chai which is self serve. This was the perfect meal for the cold day. I will definitely be back and I highly recommend Nepali Bhanchha Ghar.

Haven't had momos in a while so it was nice to be get to have some again. This was my first time having sel roti. It was a bit oily and mostly just dough - I think I was expecting a little bit of flavor, so it was ok for me. The momos are very plump and juicy. The food was overall pretty good, I would consider coming back but would rather try another place first. Unfortunately, they had just cleaned our table and it left a weird (and strong) stench) that overpowered the food smell, I think it would have been more enjoyable had we not been engulfed in this weird old dishwater smell.

Stopped in during the annual momo crawl. They'd won in past years for best momo. Had the goat which was out of this world delicious along with the chicken. Must come back!

Pros: seated quickly, ambiance was lovely, appetizers came out quickly, the Lasuni Gobi was delicious. CONS: My husband and I waited 40+ minutes for our main dishes (dal + rice and the Paneer Tikka dish) to arrive....... And we watched the people who were seated AFTER us receive their MEAT dishes before we got our ours and we most definitely ordered first. We asked our server MORE THAN ONCE what was taking so long and we got the same answer each time "I've told the kitchen to hurry, it'll be out soon" To make matters worse, the person who brought us our dishes (maybe the chef? Maybe the manager?) brought them without the naan that we ordered. When I asked, "where's our naan?" He had the audacity to rudely say "it'll be out in a few minutes", as if we hadn't already been waiting 40+ minutes for vegetarian food that I could've whipped up myself in 20 minutes. His attitude towards us was so unacceptable considering the circumstances. We have absolutely no idea what happened or why it took so long for our simple dishes to arrive. It's especially perplexing considering that the people who came in AFTER us got their meat dishes first. The server apologized and decided to bring us some kulfi (ice cream) to try to make up for it, but we try to avoid eating sugar so that was useless. I felt bad for the server because it wasn't his fault that our food took a ridiculous amount of time to make it to our table, and it's not cool that a manager never stepped in to try to reconcile. As someone who waited tables for 8+ years, I was shocked at the lack of support this server received from his management team. The dal and paneer tikka dishes were average tasting at best (and overpriced), making another trip here completely unfathomable, most especially considering how we were treated. Note to management: do better. Support your staff and step in to reconcile with unhappy guests if this happens again.

Taking over for another desi-owned spot (#1) several years ago, they've done a much better job of capturing an audience by focusing on a niche of Goan inspired foods, along with a slew of classic Indian dishes that span from north to south. The interior is modest and quaint, and a one bright / memorable outdoor setup during the pandemic. The restaurant is not big, but they've managed to cram in a good number of tables to make it place for 30 folks. Takeout and delivery are also very popular, and I've been fortunate to have had all of the above. Some immediate standouts: goan fish curry, xacuti curry, and the caldeen curry are quite excellent and all come from the Indo-Portuguese side of the menu, which are all loaded with flavor. Additionally, the tandoori selection (especially the chicken malai, seekh kebab, and methi salmon) and variety of curries (rogan josh, korma, jalfrezi, makhani, etc.) are also very flavorful. As with many other Indian places, especially ones that cater to the southern palate, there is an excellent vegetarian selection. The saag chana is one of my go-tos, but the peeli dal, bhindi masala, gobi manchurian over their lemon or tomato rice all merit a big thumbs up. Ownership has likely changed since their initial start, which explains why the staff and "family owned" management has all gotten different looks before and after the pandemic. The other major issue has been pricing, which definitely feels premium at $21-23, for portions that sometimes feels like the size of a hockey puck. The product is still good and the pickins in Sunnyside (#2) are slim, so I realize that for some people, this is the only (Indian) game in town. ___________ (#1) Biriyani House: https://www.yelp.com/biz/biriyani-house-sunnyside (#2) Unless of course, we're counting all the Nepalese spots that also serve Indian cuisine.
