The Chocolate Banana Cake was amazing! We had first tried it at a friend's birthday party and asked where they had gotten the cake. I had never heard of Angel Maid but a few weeks later I reached out to them to order a birthday cake for a good friend of ours. And it did not disappoint! I ordered the Chocolate Banana Cake because it was so delicious the first time we tried it. The best part is that although it's flavorful you don't feel heavy after having it. Angel Maid Bakery has gone down hill a little bit. Their hours are not what they say and their lot for parking is very small. That said, their service is still great and they are very nice. They are limited in what they will do. If you bring in a photo of a cake you want, chances are they won't be able to do it. They do not do images at all. They have a book and you can pick a cake. Their selection in store is very good, but I am so sick of most of them having a whipped cream frosting that you have to keep cold. I don't like cold cake. Their selection of butter cream is lacking. They do have a nice selection of cupcakes with butter cream frosting which is great. When you have them write on a cake you pre ordered you can tell they took very little time to do it, it is sloppy and there is nothing but what you told them to write. Most bakeries add a little flower or something to present the name. I just had a lemon curd type cake from them and I noticed the sloppy writing and the cake was so sweet I could not eat it, and of course, it was cold. I won't be back. That is sad. I will find another bakery that cares. But I still give them a 4 because I know a lot of people like sweet cakes with whipped cream frosting and their service is very good. read more

I called to make an order of dozen plus cream puffs and 1/4 sheet guava cake for a birthday party. I was asked for my credit card, and they gave me a confirmation number for pick up on the day agreed upon. I asked if a friend who lives closer to bakery could pick it up with the confirmation code and they said yes. I was not told that my friend would have to pay using their card on the day of pick up. I was under impression that they already had my information so that was confusing, and I wish they could be more clear on this to inform the person picking up. I agree with others that the cake is not too sweet. Presentation is classic 1990s cake - fun! The frosting and bread were okay, not bad or special. The guava flavor was artificial tasting, sweet, and unfortunately missing its tart natural flavor. The cream puffs were okay. I would not order cake or cream puffs here again, but it was a good experience trying it out. read more

I ordered a half sheet marble/custard/whipped cream cake for my dad's 80th birthday. I've never hosted a party where the entire cake was eaten until yesterday. They used chocolate for decoration and honestly, it was beautiful. I could not have asked for anything better. I also ordered several dozen cream puffs and they did not disappoint. The chocolate-covered cream puffs are by far my favorite. The soft puff on the outside combined with the cool, creamy filling inside just melts in your mouth, all wrapped in a gentle chocolate coating. Highly recommend! read more

I grew up in West LA and have been coming here for years. My go-to cakes are the mocha and the vanilla with strawberry, both fluffy, moist, and not overly sweet, with light frosting. You can pre-order by phone or in person, but you can also stop by day-of and see what's available. It's a small shop and can get crowded, especially on weekends, but service is always excellent. They're always so sweet, patient, and if you have any questions they will help you. There's a small parking lot (very limited) or street parking on Centinela. read more

Grew up on AM Bakery. So watching it evolve over time always is done in comparison to what you've known it to be. In my case and in my friends' cases who always grew up on AM, it's still good but definitely missing the same pizzazz. The cake my friend recently bought was a bit dry. The strawberries were ok. I know, albeit the season... that's uncontrollable. But the cake part was a bit dry. :( But still go back here for the pumpkin pies in the fall. The vibe here is less of a family feel but that happens. The parking is rough. The following will always be there because it's a Japanese American community staple in this side of town. These days I think I will still travel a bit farther for my other fave when my schedule permits. Cream puffs here are the bomb though!! Probably over the cake now.... They are always busy so may need to stop in to order your cake vs. calling them. read more

Hands down one of the best bakeries in the area, if not the best. I was recommended to come here by my barber and I'm so glad I did. Prices are fair and quality of goods is top tier. Heads up, parking here is hard to find so you might need to go a little early to give yourself time. Theres only 2 stalls at the bakery itself the rest is street parking. Inside is also quite small for where you order. If you come on a weekend, you better get there when they open. Lines can get long, but they move relatively fast. The staff here are very friendly and willing to help you out. I think the person that helped me was Miko and she was awesome! Thank you for the suggestion and know I'll be back very soon for my next cake fix. This place has the best Tiramisu I've had in a long time. The last time I had one that nice was in Italy so make sure you get that when you go here. The texture to the bite to the taste, just perfection! The Chocolate Pudding Cake was also excellent. I'm not a big cake guy, but I'm coming back for this. It was light and moist but also not too sweet. The balance of flavors were all on point. read more

The ever running joke for an Asian's approval of a dessert is that it's, "not too sweet." Asian or not, the not too sweet component just means things are well balanced and everything compliments each other well. Spongey chiffon, light and airy whipped cream, sweet and tart fruit jam makes for an excellent and reasonably priced cake. At Angel Maid the staff is very friendly and accommodating when taking orders in person or over the phone. They ask for 1 week notice for orders but depending on how busy they are have accepted shorter notice. If you totally forgot they do have some large items to pick up day of if you get there early enough. Closed Mondays and Tuesdays and Sundays orders must be picked up in person with a deposit. read more

This place went downhill especially in customer service ... we went to pick up few cakes to celebrate my late father's birthday/Father's Day. As we were eating we found a white hair in the cake, so I called them to just to inform them about the hair inside the cake. The person who answered the phone wasn't apologetic or sympathetic at all. Instead all she did was to tell me everyone wears hats around the cakes... always want to support a small business but this was such a disappointment. They used to be super nice. And the cakes used to taste much better. read more

If you're ever by Marina Del Rey, make sure to stop by this bakery.My go to are their mini cream puffs, esp the chocolate-dipped ones! The choux pastry has the perfect crisp exterior without being dry. The custard filling is heavenly has vanilla bean bits, silky, rich and not overly sweet. You can tell they use quality ingredients. When I visited in 2024 they were $1.00 each, affordable & perfect to bring to a party/ gatherings.. or to have it all yourself! They also offer custom cakes, and I've tried their tres leches cake which was moist without being soggy, just the right balance of sweetness and creaminess. I've known about Angel Maid for decades because every Christmas a relative brings their fabulous cream puffs for dessert, but this was my first actual visit. They seem to specialize in special orders and pre-orders, mostly cakes. I did a pre-order myself for a fruit tart. All orders are done by phone or in-person, nothing on-line. You pay at pick-up. Charmingly old-school! Angel Maid is located on busy Centinela Ave and has exactly 2 parking spots in their lot, one is for handicapped. Street parking was fairly easy. I picked up my gorgeous-looking fruit tart without incident, and also got a few items on-site: a pretty pinwheel danish with apricot and raspberry toppings, plus a maple-frosted tea cake. There were a few items in-store that were single-serving size. More evidence of the bakery's old-school ways: when paying, there's no computer screen they turn around to encourage/force you to add a tip! There wasn't a tip jar either. The fruit tart was as delicious as it was beautiful; I'm pretty; sure our relative brought one of these for Christmas before. I've been disappointed with this bakery because their signature cake "strawberry shortcake" can not be made in advance. You would have to get up at and make line at 7am but doesn't guarantee you the cake. I was in line at 7:20am (first in line ) 4 people behind me , including an elder person (looked like 70+ years old) all in line for the same cake. The service needs serious improvement. The employee working the register was neither friendly nor helpful, which set a disappointing tone from the start. We ordered a full sheet marble cake with chocolate mousse filling, but what we received was completely different. The cake itself was plain white, and the filling was hard and dense--nothing close to the light, airy texture you would expect from a mousse. To make matters worse, we were charged extra for this "mousse" filling, which ended up being nothing like what we have experienced before from this bakery. Given the high price, I expected a quality product. Instead, the cake tasted and looked like it had been put together at the last minute. Overall, a very disappointing experience. read more

Haven't purchased a cake here in a long time however when I came back the recipe or something has definitely changed. I used to love their marble cake with The filling inside. What an amazing experience from Angel Maid Bakery. I wanted a beautiful cake for my mom's 52nd birthday. She loves pink and flowers and butterflies and wanted a cake that was special. I found Angel Maid on Yelp, and the cakes online looked so beautiful. I called and told the woman I spoke to that I just wanted an 8" inch marble cake that looks beautiful and feminine. I told them she likes flowers, butterflies, pink, and edible gold, and told the person that they can just run with the decorations. I basically gave them free reign to decorate it as they saw fit after telling them what kind of aesthetic I wanted. I was a bit nervous about the design since I didn't share any reference pictures, but the cake came out so magical and better than I could have ever expected. My mom was so surprised and loved it so much. It really made her birthday even more special. The 8" marble cake was $45 and to custom decorate it, it was $15. So total was $60 for a beautiful and delicious cake. The crumb in the cake was so soft and the flavor was absolutely divine. I would definitely order from this bakery again. When I went, there was a huge line which honestly makes sense because their treats and cakes are so so good and the customer service is impeccable. read more

This little neighborhood gem is truly something special. It's so unassuming that if you blink, you might miss it--we actually drove here on a chef's recommendation, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. It's a bakery with a wonderful selection of pastries. I tried a variety of items, including croissants and filled brioches, and everything was fresh, beautifully made, and delicious. You can really taste the care and precision in their baking. Parking is quite limited, so be prepared to look for a spot on the surrounding residential streets. The place gets very busy, but the staff is efficient, friendly, and keeps things moving smoothly. read more

TOP cake bakery on the Westside! I ordered a Mango Mousse cake, customized for my friend's birthday, and it was only $40-50 (very reasonable compared to other customized cakes in LA). It was light, not too sweet, full of the 'mango' flavor, and creamy and fluffy. Pre-order through phone call! For Sunday pick-ups, you HAVE to order in-person, just fyi! read more

best cake. very reasonably priced and tastes just as good as the chiffon cake i used to love in asia. (i grew up in korea and there was a bomb chiffon cake place. i know this is japanese style but i know what a good chiffon should be like!!) we usually get the guava kind now but their regular chiffon is excellent too. guava paste (?)/layer isn't too sweet nor overpowering. it's always a crowdpleaser whenever you take this cake to any function. many plain american folks have never had a chiffon cake in their lives (poor souls) - i would choose this over buttercream frosting with other basic yellow cake base, ANY DAY. those are just way too sweet and heavy too!! their strawberry shortcake is slightly drier but i think that's just the difference between a regular sponge cake vs chiffon cake. it still tasted really good and simple. tartness from the strawbs and their whipped cream frosting is always on point. it just tastes fresh and clean. i cannot get enough of their cakes!!!!!!!! i got way too blessed and got two cakes on the same day for my bday this year bc my fam and friends know me too well (and i had 3 big slices of it - no shame) their order turn around is great from what i hear (since i never personally ordered so this isn't my personal account) but i need to go visit the place to try their other stuff! read more

I love this place, I have been coming to this place for at least 15+ yrs. I used to live on the Westside, so when I am on the Westside, I try to make a stop. It's such an institutional japanese bakery. Not too sweet, just the right amount of sweetness. One of my all-time favorite bakeries! I live deep in the San Fernando Valley and we make the drive to Culver City just to pick up cakes here. My favorite is the guava chiffon. There is truly no other cake out there like this one. The taste is incredible and fresh. They have the best most fluffy and airy bread that you don't feel sluggish after eating a slice of their cake. The whipped cream is also very light and not too sweet. I love the fruit roll, and you can also get this in a round cake version if you call and customize. The strawberry shortcake is another amazing choice as well as the German chocolate cake. I honestly have never disliked anything that comes out of this bakery is extremely affordable at only $35 for a 7 inch round! read more

I went there to order a cake, they were very rigid on what they were willing to create in terms of decorations. They were only offering what they already had. Went to Westchester Bakery instead, they gave me exactly what I asked for. I was super bummer because I've only ever heard good things about them.
