I'm originally from Arizona and am constantly craving authentic Mexican food. I had given up hope until I decided to try out this location joint. I do not regret this decision one bit! The food here is absolutely delicious and probably the best Hispanic food I've had since moving out here. We ordered the chilaquiles (one with red sauce and one with green sauce) and guacamole. They were all absolutely amazing. If you are in Eastie or want to get adventurous, go here! You won't be disappointed. Just a forewarning, they only have a brunch menu during the weekend. Went to this little gem after an event in Boston. I'm so glad we searched it out. Loved the Covid vax check at the door. We sat in the last 2 seats. It was about 2pm Sat and this place was busy! They serve breakfast until 3 but we opted for lunch. Everything was al carte and we order items to share: 2 tacos, tamales (amazingly good), a gordita and taquiles. Everything was so good we placed an additional order to go! Rajas poblanas, queso, more tAmales and guacamole. Can't wait to go back for dinner!! Prices were terrific, as was the homemade food. This place is the best! Very small, about 30 seats but it was busy the whole time I was there. I had a delicious chicken mole burrito. It was huge, definitely shareable especially if you get an appetizer or something smaller. The tortilla was soft and warm and stuffed with tender chicken and beans, white rice, some cheese and some peas and carrots too! And oh boy, that mole was awesome. Placed a pick up order - drove across town to pick it up, cool little place with friendly staff that helped me quickly. Received my order and drove home...opened the bag, both entrees in there but we ordered a queso appetizer too (which per their menu is "melted Mozzarella with jalapeño with chips") and an a side order of chips. Received a container of shredded mozz with some jalapeño pieces, cold not melted. No chips. Called the restaurant and told them the mistake - put on "hold" (could just hear them talking in the background) then they said "it doesn't come with chips" but tortillas instead (never received tortillas). Put on "hold" again, lady comes back arguing with me to tell me where in the bag the tortillas are....it's a paper bag, no many places to look....they then told me to drive back to pick up the tortillas. Said no, asked them to just remove the salsa from my order since I didn't order, more rambling. Didn't bother driving back, not worth the time/money/headache. Quesadilla was fine, not bad. I recently came here again with my wife after 2 yrs and it reminded me why we don't come back to this place, (it's unfortunate because I really want to like it) and it really comes down to the flavors, it remind me a lot more like Rosa Mexicana at the Seaport or Lolita cocina, about 2 yrs ago we came here for dinner and I order the Carne Asada, but to my surprise it was more of a thick grilled steak, nothing like Carne Asada from Mexico, but rather more of your traditional steak house restaurant... this time we went for Breakfast, I've Order the Huevos rancheros and she got the chilaquiles, if you're unfamiliar with traditional authentic Mexican food, than this is the right place for you, or if you like the restaurants I've mentioned then you'll also enjoy this place, the music it's great except that I was listening to Rancheras and reggaetón playing at the same time. read more

They worked around us setting for the tables for service but would not acknowledge us at all! I had to ask if we could order. When the young lady came back she wouldn't look at my friend even tho she was the one ordering for us. It was extremely frustrating! My first time in East Boston and it couldn't have been better! I decided to come to Angela's with some friends for brunch and they recommended this place. Upon entering, it's a cozy cafe and you could tell that it's family owned. Friendly staff members helped us move tables and chairs together since out party size was 8. Waters and drinks were brought out and they gave us enough time to decide on what to order. As a table we shared a large ceviche and two small bowls of guacamole. The chips were made fresh and paired well with the ceviche and the guacamole. The guac was smooth and very fresh. I loved the display for both, as it made you feel like you were in Mexico enjoying these. I shared the dulce de leche pancakes and the huevos deluxe. The huevos deluxe was really tasty! The chorizo was flavorful, the egg cooked perfectly over medium as it oozed out the yolk, and the tortillas were crispy. It can get a little messy, but it all goes in one place am I right? The pancakes were so soft and moist. I think Angela's Cafe is one place I can definitely say has the best tasty pancakes that AREN'T dry. Although I wanted to try the nutella banana pancakes, the dulce de leche were awesome as well! Slight caramel flavoring, the drizzle wasn't overpowering the pancake. I didn't add any extra syrup, so that's when you know their pancakes are good. The service here is wonderful and friendly. The decor is also really cute as well. I wish it was a bit closer to the city, but I would definitely come back to try more things! I've also heard that their chilaquiles is good. read more

We have been to both locations and they seemed To be equally good. Angela's serves Puebla style Mexican cuisine and the highlight is an amazing mole sauce. You have to think of whatever meat you order is just the delivery mechanism for the mole. It's so good and has multiple layers of flavors. I would recommend it over pork vs chicken as they serve a breast which can easily be over cooked. The pork is good. Other great things we have tried: pozole, queso fundido, albondigas, among others. The space is small here but they use it well. We went in a Sunday morning around 9am, expecting to wait a few, but got sat right away which was a surprise. The service is always great here, fast and efficient. The coffee is hot and the juice is delicious. I ordered the chilaquiles, is wasn't the best I've ever had but it also wasn't the worst. Nothing on my dish was hot, and even when it first arrived the chips were already soggy. The shredded chicken on top had not one bit of seasoning. My boyfriend got the breakfast burrito, which was a decent size for the price. The only problem with his dish was the potatoes it came with as a side were on the cold side, but seasoned very well. We split the dulce de leche pancakes which were easily the best thing we ordered. For $9 you got a full stack of fluffy pancakes covered in this amazing caramel sauce that was warm and sweet. This is a true neighborhood gem - so good, I almost hate to share. :) Angela's Café is a small restaurant on Eagle Hill in East Boston. The menu is reflective of the considerate of the Central and South American populations that call Eastie home these days with a delicious presentation of Poblana Cuisine under the loving and watchful eye of Angela Atenco Lopez - you can taste her influence in every dish and in the warm, inviting atmosphere created in the space - including the semi-open kitchen. They open seven days a week at 8:00AM serving breakfast. Breakfast offers everything from the basic breakfast offering to more complex omelets and traditional Mexican breakfasts. A very extensive offering of side orders if you want to create your own little continental breakfast. Lunch and dinner share the same menu (thank goodness everything is offered for both meals!!) Everything you order is prepared freshly, bursting with a myriad of complementary flavors that excite even the most boring of palates. You MUST start out with the guacamole and fresh made chips. Heaven! Something this simple shows you that they are paying attention to every detail and care about everything that goes to the customer. I must share that for dietary reasons I do not eat shellfish or pork and I do not mix dairy and meat. they have a good selection of vegetarian items and meat entrées without dairy. The bonus is that they will adapt almost everything for the customer's needs. A perfect example is the Tinga which they will make without the sour cream and cheese - and it is every bit as good I am told by a fellow diner who does not subscribe to my dietary laws. The tilapia is excellent - this fish has a very light "fish taste quotient" and the simple preparation with olive oil will delight. The Mexican cactus salad is anything but prickly - well, okay - it does prickle the taste buds into delight! Save room for dessert! the flan is firm and you will not believe the amount of flavor that is packed into the serving. They have a beer and wine along with cordials license. The sangria (red or white) is delicious and they offer Margaritas by the glass or pitcher (that's a plus!!) They of course have the traditional Mexican sodas and general soft drinks as well. The restaurant is small and when packed (as it most always is) the noise level can be a touch loud - but who cares - it adds to the magic and energy of your experience. The service staff is efficient and not invasive at all. They also do not push tables out quickly, allowing you to enjoy the food and restaurant as one positive experience. Parking is on-street and give yourself some time if you are driving in. A parking hint f you are coming in the evenings after 6:00PM or weekends - you may find it easier to park in the East Boston High School Parking lot at the top of Eagle Hill - it is a quick four block walk down to the restaurant at the corner of Lexington and Brooks. Public Transportation: MBTA Blue Line to either Maverick or Wood Island station and take Bus 121 which serves Lexington Street. Check the MBTA schedules before your journey as the bus runs at limited times off peak hours. You can also walk straight up Brooks Street from the Airport MBTA station - about a 10 minute walk. Catchup dinner with some girlfriends (one of whom just got engaged!), so it had to be some place special. One of the girls suggested Angela's as the best Mexican food in the city, and being that I've had limited exposure to authentic Mexican cuisine (they just never quite made it up to Canada), I was totally game. As everyone who's been here effusively praises, the guacamole is outstanding. This is totally my kind of guac. Why? Because it doesn't have onions or cilantro, is heavy on the fresh, perfectly-ground avocado and contains a bit of lemon/lime juice for zest. I am a citrus fanatic. And an avocado lover. So this guac = foodgasm. The margaritas and sangria were equally fantastic, ridiculously cheap for Boston and huge in portion. I love the different-colored salt that rimmed my glass. Totally added the right kick. We got the Favoritos de Angela under Antojitos to split. Maybe it was the rather strong margarita taking effect by that time (I started drinking the minute I sat down), but I totally missed the part where this platter served 6-7 (we were half that size). So much food! But sooo good! Chicken Mole Gordita, Tinga Tostada, Taco Arabe, Ceviche Tostada, Taco Pastor, Rajas Poblanas, Verde Chorizo Gordita, and Nopales Tostada. My favorites were definitely the Chorizo and Chicken Mole because I am a sucker for savory meat in savory sauce. I thought I was ravenous but even splitting everything 3 ways, we could not finish all that food. Plus...There was more. One friend ordered the Albondigas to share after the Favoritas. Mexican meatballs filled with cheese and egg, in a hot, spicy chipotle soup. Yes, soup. Bright orange, it's so spicy. Remember how I love savory meat? Well, I also love spicy soup. Cue second foodgasm. Especially when my friends left me more than half of the huge bowl of broth to drink on my own. Oh God, I just wanted to swim in its fiery glory, even if it scalded me beyond recognition. I'm still drooling over it now. If you're giving a restaurant 1 star because they don't deliver and yelp says they do (which they don't control) or because you had to wait outside at a small restaurant at 7pm on a Saturday you need to seriously get over yourself. The world doesn't revolve around you. Angela's is without a doubt the best Mexican restaurant in the Boston area. I've had pretty much the entire menu by now and probably eat here 2-4 times a week. I've eaten a lot of good food in Boston and other cities but Angela's was the best meal I EVER had in my life. I am pretty sure I saw a Devine Presence as I took my first bite of the Enchilada Rojas. It transported me back to the kitchen of my childhood best friend whose Colombian Grandmother used to make meals I still dream about to this day. Words really cannot describe how great the food is, I was completely blown away by the Enchiladas with Red Sauce which I ordered with vegetables (spinach, onion, mushroom, jalapeño and others) wrapped in hand made corn tortillas. (Also available with salsa verde (green sauce) and chicken or chorizo) While the Enchilada Rojas are a personal favorite the Mole dishes are fantastic and I highly recommend giving these a try if you're looking for something a little different. The mole sauce is earthy and mildly spicy and super authentic The place is small but cozy, a great place for an intimate date with food that will completely blow you away. (Sexual puns were completely unintended lol) I REALLY REALLY want to give Angela's 5 starts however as other reviewers have mentioned the waitresses have a really bad habit of asking you if you'd like tortillas without revealing there is an extra charge. If you're smart enough to ask they will tell you it is an extra 3.50 but make it sound as though it's free. My husband and I love this place and have decided to make this our designated brunch spot. It's a family-owned hole in the wall that is in the middle of an East Boston neighborhood. The service is always friendly and we feel like family there. We've tried both the sweet and savory dishes and nothing has been short of delicious. This is the second time I have been to Angela's and I love it. I do always forget about this place because I normally don't come to East Boston to eat. Which I should start. The place is small but friendly and cozy. They have a few outdoor seating to take advantage of in the summer months. It's a street view so its nothing excited. My boyfriend and I both ordered the Chilaliques for breakfast. He paid $3 extra for a HUGE piece of steak which was well worth it. My plate was clean in the matter of minutes. I love the corn tortillas on the bottom of the plate, topped with chicken, cheese this awesome green sauce, onions, avocado and refried beans. I do wish they put more beans on the plate too. Oh and its topped with 2 eggs whatever style you want. There is street parking which is perfect and you don't have to drive around too long to find a spot. We got called and I was already right outside the their door right on time but the rest of my party was a few minutes away. I had been sitting there exactly 8 minutes when the host comes and tells me if they are coming cause if not yet I need to go wait outside cause they might need to sell the table. I was in disbelief he was asking me to go outside just after 8 minutes when we waited for them 1 hour. The waitress was awesome the food was great I just think he could have been nicer. I spent 160 on breakfast which was well spent, however they brought us the bill and didn't offer desert, I am an all course person I asked them for dessert. The desert was great but as soon as I took the last bight the same guy was looking to take us out already. Geez it is a small place I get it probably very popular but still one wants to enjoy their meal and feel welcomed. I felt as if they were annoyed we wanted to have everything. We found this place just through Yelp's mapping function on our way into town from the airport. It was morning, and we (my husband and four kids ages 6-1 and I) were hungry and tired and a little wired. Taking kids to restaurants basically terrifies me, but I really wanted actual food--not the kids' favorite "Mickadonalds"--so we went. 9:30a on a Thursday in early November with four little kids and two adults. It worked out great! We found close street parking very easily. The small restaurant was able to seat us right away at a half-bench, half-chair table. The staff seemed totally unperturbed by our high kid-to-adult ratio. My fairly picky eater children IMMEDIATELY found food they wanted (the Angela's special, with bacon, sausage, eggs, toast, home fries, and mini pancakes or French toast). We ordered chocolate chip pancakes for our 3 yo, and all our kids were very happy with their food. They ate so much more than they usually do! That's a sign of a restaurant that's nailing it. But the greatest win is that while my kids ate perfectly tasty meals they wanted, my husband and I got to eat tasty meals we wanted to eat! For a family of food-loving parents and food-picky kids, that combo is basically unheard of. I ordered the chilaquiles with mild green sauce (note: I am wimpy when it comes to spiciness, and this was too spicy for me! but it was delicious, and I ate almost all of it) with easy-over eggs. Eggs were cooked perfectly, and the corn tortilla/queso fresco combo was the stuff dreams are made of. My husband ordered the huevos poblanos, which was scrambled eggs, ham, and cactus with seasoned home fries and refried beans with some kind of white creamy sauce (maybe a thin sour cream?). He wrapped stuff in these corn tortillas that he cannot stop talking about. He doesn't love corn tortillas generally, but he said these were the highlight of his meal. He says, "That dish was exactly what I was looking for. It's why I want to eat high quality Mexican food for breakfast." Together the five meals cost $51. But it was definitely worth it. We rarely have had a restaurant experience that tasty and easy for the whole family. Why not a five? That's a tough one. My kids' toast was toasted regular white bread that was cold enough when it came out that the butter on it didn't melt. The only syrup they had available was pre-packaged, individual containers of commercial syrup (not maple). And my green sauce was far from the mild I expected/they promised. (Though everyone's mild varies.) We also had one small issue with food prep, but they solved the problem immediately when we brought it to their attention. If I could, I'd give them a 4.5.
