It began to rain when we arrived and it was beautiful! We all ordered slices (cheese for my companions) and I ordered one with mushrooms, as well as two orders of fries plus drinks. Our food was ready in a short amount of time and everything was hot and delicious. My slice not only came with mushrooms, but had tomatoes, spinach, and herbs on it. Very good! The fries were hot and crispy and came in a bag that promised to keep them hot (and delivered). They came with a container of ketchup and there were salt, pepper, garlic, red chili flakes on the counter. Parmesan is romano and kept in the fridge behind the counter, just ask for some. Been going to this place since high school and no matter what my taste buds still crave it probably once a week if not twice. Same workers same vibes same great food fast paced Environment they truly serve the children of the local high school almost all year round but they treat us all even when we graduate with exceptional service. They are slices are huge and super tasty the bacon cheeseburger is always ordered and their prices you can't beat. A little bit removed from Harvard Square, Angelo's holds its own among the best restaurants in the neighborhood by appealing to it's demographic, high school kids. From the pizza to the burgers and fries this is the place CRLS students go to chill and get a bite to eat. Conveniently located across the street from the school and the library it's one of those hidden gems of the community that's all locals and zero tourists. That being said this place far from fancy. And I think their chairs might have been "borrowed" from the high school across the street. But you can't beat the food. Lou makes a great pizza. I think they might have snuck in some wheat dough. But most pizza bought here comes piled with toppings, like bacon. And don't be fooled by the salad. Lou told me the kids who get the salad all they really want it for is the feta cheese. Seriously, he's a funny guy to chat with while waiting for your food. Toppings are cheap and plenty. Actually all the food here is inexpensive. If you're looking for some gourmet foodie experience, don't come here. This isn't the type of place you go out of your way to try. If you're looking for some down-to-earth cheap pizza, fries, and chicken fingers, this is the place for you. I primarily like this place because of the price (so cheap for the area!) and for the proximity to my home. So I don't have to go very far to get cheap dinner! But this place is 3 stars instead of 4 for a few reasons: 1. I don't love the pizza. I mean it's fine for the price but it's not one of those "omg cheap AND delicious!" places. You get what you pay for. It's not bad pizza by any means (and I've had some inedible-y bad pizza), but it's not awesome either. 2. I got the cheesy fries once and by the time I got home (less than a 5 minute walk away), the cheese was super congealed which wasn't particularly appetizing and made it very difficult to eat. Doubt I'd order this again. 3. The hours never seem to work out for me. This place closes much earlier than I would like and isn't open on the weekends when I'm feeling especially lazy. Five stars for being the best slice pizzeria in the area (four stars for the pizza itself, which is good). The guys who work here are great, five stars for them. At busy times it'll be packed with high school students from across the street, who are loud and dramatic but very innocent and well-meaning (they make for a pretty adorable scene). It's a little creepy to walk into; bare and stark ever by hole-in-the-wall standards. But once you see their menu, you forget to care. It's not extensive, but it has what you need, and it has it for cheap. Big slices for $1.75, big & cheap salads that come with giant pieces of tasty bread, burgers, fries, deliciousness. The one strike against it is the little twats from Cambridge Rindge & Latin. I'm not against all the CRLS kids, mind you; without them, this place wouldn't survive, so loud as they are, I am glad they're there. I'm just talking about the fucknuggets who steal these guys' tip jar, steal cookies from the case, hell, even the phone off the counter. I think that the cheesy fries are something to write home about, even if you are mostly writing about your declining health as it relates to the food you got at Angelo's or not. As a former CRLS student, it is really the only place worth going to, unless you have the money to go to Broadway Market, or well... Darwin's wasn't there when I was in school... Anyways. Tiny little place that continues to exist primarily because it's directly across the street from CRLS, where it is popular for its large (and cheap) single slices and the infamous cheese fries. They have plenty of other items on the menu worth trying but admittedly, unless you're a hungry 16 year old with no other options, you certainly can do better and more interesting. If you want to have a filling, fattening, and overally pretty good "dish" to take with you on the go, get the cheese fries. I'm not sure if they're still $2.25, but basically you get like a pound of french fries, with a bunch of mozzerella cheese and baked until the cheese is melted through but still gooey. I have classes nearby at night and make it a point to stop by Angelo's for a couple slices (HUGE and delicious) and a coke before class. That comes out to $4.25. Seriously, their prices were valid for most pizza places ca. 1995. Also the most unpretentious, friendly place I go to regularly, which makes it especially valuable in the Harvard Sq. area. I love this store. It's always a good place to brunch after reading a good book in the cpl (cambridge public library). Sadly the libary is closed so there is hardly anytime to come here anymore. As a small child I used to love coming here because the pizza was always warm. We would each share a slice. I've been getting pizza here ever since I had a library card. Mostly, you come to Angelo's for a slice of cheese pizza and some stuff on top, if you dare adulterate such perfection to begin with. Stuck in a hot oven immediately upon your order, the cheese coating over traditional, hearty red sauce (heavy on the tomatoes and love) melts to oozy amazingness. The dough is slightly undone immediately after the sauce, but the crust of the crust is crispity-crunchity and a perfect textural contrast to all of the ooey-gooey-ness resting above. An ancient video game machine or two sit just inside the door. Back in college, in Albany NY, there was a place called Fire Station Pizza that gave the same vibe - the utter lack of attention to the premises just screams tax shelter, or basement dismemberment shop, or drug trafficking stopover... you get the picture, maybe. Oh Angelo's. I lived down the street from it for three years and it quickly became my go-to place for steak and cheese subs ($4.50!) and small cheese pizzas ($5.50!!!). Once you get past the vaguely terrifying exterior, into the more terrifying interior, ignoring the fact that it definitely looks like a drug front, and that the furniture is pretty clearly brought over from the local Cambridge Ringe & Latin school, you get to the heart of what Angelo's is.... a local place that focuses solely on the food. No decorations, no vending machines from the last 45 years, zero ambiance, and no nonsense. The guys that work there are nice (the first time I went in I ordered my steak and cheese and realized it was cash only and they gave it to me for free after I promised profusely that I would be back because I just moved in down the street yadda yadda) and the food is consistently tasty. Bottom line: good, cheap, fast, greasy. Open at random hours, closed on weekends. Watch out for the lunch rush of high school kids or you'll think you've time traveled back to lunch period in your old cafeteria. read more

The guys at Angelo's make an excellent thin crust pizza, which isn't only well balanced, crisp and delishous, it's cheap. $1.75 for a large cheese slice, $5 for a 14", $8 fpr a 16" cheese pizza The staff put up with massive numbers of high school students during lunch and when school lets out, and they are fast, efficient, polite and even tempered. Needless to say, none of the kids tip, so the staff live on strraight salary, which can't be that great considering the price of their food. They serve sandwiches, calzones, subs, and fried chicken. Everything is excellent. I don't know what anyone means about the place seeming scary. It's a plain place, mostly takeout with some formica tables and large picture windows at the front. The teens are all polite to the staff and to me ( a little old gray haired lady), if not so much to each other at times, but it is totally benign. I wish we had place like this both in quality and price, in Seattle!. If you can avoid noon and 3:00 pm you won't have the insanity of 20 high schoolers with whom you compete to get your order in (but as I said, the staff behind the counter is great and efficient). Like every other kid at CRLS, I learned quickly of the greatness that is Angelo's Pizza. The food is greasy, tasty and cheap. You will be hard-pressed to find more bang for your buck than Angelo's. Go for the chicken sandwich with bacon and an order of cheesefries (if you feel the blood flow to your heart begin to noticeably slow halfway through the meal, don't worry. That's normal). Pizza slices aren't the best, but they are enormous and certainly get the job done. If you're going to get pizza, go after the mad rush of high school kids so you can get it hot.
