Being from Chicago, I typically don't think of Pueblo Colorado as a "pizza town", but my daughter, who's spending time living here doing an internship, convinced us to visit anyway. She had been here numerous times and raved about their Romano specialty pizza. So on a hot and sunny afternoon, we opted to sit indoors, ditch the many dishes made with the local Pueblo Green Chile and dig into some pizza. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place itself has been here a while and features two floors of dining space - with the lower level opening up to outdoor seating on the famous riverwalk.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Had it been just slightly cooler, we would've opted to sit outside. As it was like 100F we chose to seat inside which featured a view of the riverwalk from the second story.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The space is big enough for large groups and parties and even featured a gelato bar.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Our tandem of two waitresses (I think we came in between shifts) were both great and we wanted for nothing. I ordered a Breckenridge Vanilla Porter, which was tasty, but it unfortunately was not very cold. However, the Specialty Pizza Romana was absolutely a stand out. I guess the dough for this pizza is fermented and aged?!? Don't recall the exact process, but it was delicious. The pizza featured both a vodka marinara sauce and also pesto. It was topped with mozzarella, mortadella, prosciutto, capicola and salami. It was like eating an Italian sub on top of a pizza. All of it just worked together and made for a damn tasty pizza big enough to feed 4 adults. We were gonna try some other menu items, but there was only 3 of us and we were full after the pizza. So why 4 stars instead of 5? [[HIGHLIGHT]]Aside from the lukewarm beer, we were joined at the table by an unusual amount of flies![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I worked in restaurants and bars for years. I know flying pests are not completely in your control, but we spent a lot of time "shooing" and trying to swat pesty flies from the time the pizza hit the table until we took our last bite. First time here. I really liked the salads that my friends ordered. Huge piece of salmon with fresh veggies. Too healthy for me tonight. I went with a pizza. I learned after I ordered that they have several styles including. Chicago which is not my favorite. It was good but not great. I would order it again but, it wouldn't be my first choice. Ordered online, and picked up my food 15 minutes before I was told to arrive, it was ready to go, had I waited it would have been cold, as it was not very hot to begin with when I arrived at my office a few blocks away. Parmesan Chicken was burnt on the edges, like crunchy burnt. There was excess water in the bottom with the spaghetti noodles which made parts of the chicken soggy. I also ordered the Breaded Cauliflower, it was soggy and there was excess grease on the bottom of the container. The sogginess is likely due to the container itself being plastic and acting like a tiny greenhouse. A paper container would be a better choice... The salad that came with my meal had rotten lettuce in it. Not a lot, but it was quite a large piece. This is not the first time ordering take out and ending up with less than desirable food. Dinning in is a whole other experience, but I guess if it's take out, there's less concern about the food. Either way, I'm done. No more ordering from them, in person or otherwise. If I can't trust them with a to go order, I don't feel it's safe to trust them at all. Waste of money. read more

You know I'm tough on my pizza being from NY State, so I was pleasantly surprised that downtown Pueblo had a nice spot for dining. My company and I each ordered the lunch special which was a large pizza slice and side salad. Salad was good and pizza was very good. We started with calamari, garlic rolls, and chicken wings, and then sampled a variety of their famous pizzas. I highly recommend the calamari and wings-the buffalo wings were especially saucy. Their specialty chili pizza was excellent, with large portions and a spicy kick from the chili peppers on a traditional pepperoni base. Saturday January 10, just came home from lunch with my wife, OMG, we both ordered a single slice of pizza, sausage and green chili, this was the worst pizza we have ever tried to eat, we can't figure out if it was old, frozen, or leftover. This pizza was dry, very little cheese, absolutely no flavor, and for the life of me since when did they start using ground sausage. Yes the portions are great but come this is Angelo's how bout quality, we have always been very satisfied with everything we ordered but this was BAD. Anyone with this experience call for the manager, shame on me, I didn't. We drove up Union and spotted a homeless man, hope he got more out of that pizza than we did! Decided to have an early dinner her on a recommendation of the concierge at our hotel with the words of "this is a local favorite." The Good: Since we arrived early, around 4 pm, we got right in, and the dining room was completely empty. Our waitress was very nice and attentive as well. The restaurant appeared clean and taken care of. My wife and I decided to just share a couple of things as our stomachs were not screaming at us yet for food. The appetizer we ordered, loaded garlic knots, tasted very well. The Bad: It has been a long time since we went to a casual dining restaurant where one shared plate and appetizer seemed to not fill us up, especially as we were not very hungry. The price point was too high for the "at best " average Italian inspired cuisine. The above-mentioned appetizer tasted good. However, it seemed to have been overloaded with pesto and very oily. For our dinner, we chose the scaloppine chicken. The meat was a very, very thin sliced piece of chicken that was fairly tough to chew and very dry. The spaghetti noodles served with the protein tasted ok but doused in tomatoes and onions, trying to give it some flavor. The Ugly Truth: For the money, it was definitely not worth it. Fsst food chains like fazolis can definitely compete with the quality of the food. Our waitress was great and deserves recognition for doing a wonderful job. The website for this joint said "Best pizza in Pueblo". Of course, it worked. I had to try the best pizza in town. My first attempt failed, I was politely asked to HOLD and I did for 18 minuets. It was a Friday and they were obviously slammed. On Sunday, late afternoon I had a great idea. I got online and placed my order. My Large Le Carne pizza showed up crazy hot and super greasy. Grab a roll of paper towels and dig in, the all meat pizza is an amazing meal and fun to eat. It is a bit messy, but it is soooo worth it. I would recommend ordering online as it was very easy. We went here a few weeks ago as we did the riverwalk. The last thing I wanted was pizza, so I grabbed the Mic Mac. It was really good and the combination of the chicken with the peppers and cheese went well together. I would recommend it. We also got a Caesar salad, which was pretty standard, and the kids got pizza. They ate pretty much all of the pizza, but I did get a taste and thought it was good. We had a margarita, which my wife had some issue with, but they brought out a replacement for her and that one was to her liking. The staff was friendly, but the food did take a bit longer to come out. We ended up sitting inside in order to avoid the wait for outdoor seating, but I'm sure eating by the riverwalk would have been a better experience. The best thing about this place was the customer service, speed, and location. The food was subpar and expensive for what you get. It was filling and delivered quickly, but not something we would try again. We got the loaded garlic knots, they were tasty but not exactly what was expected(they were not knots but rather balls of dough). The scaloppine chicken with a small side of pasta, the sauce flavor was decent but could have been better with more sauce. The chicken was paper thin and if it didnt have tomato on top it would have been very bland and super dry. We went from 8 to 14 people within a few hours and I was searching for a sports bar so I could watch the Womens Final Four Iowa Hawkeye's vs UConn play. The restaurant agreed to have the game on for us and feed 7 adults and 7 kids with a front row seat to the game. Have always loved Angelo's but it's been so long since I've moved!! I missed it. With the NYC vibe and seating right next to the Pueblo river walk, Angelo's has the perfect atmosphere for a fun outing with friends or a fun but casually romantic date. I love the Musso Farms pizza because it has chiles (when in Pueblo). The appetizers were all great and tiramisu is a must. Be prepared to wait a bit as Angelo's is always busy- but for good reason!
