We're part of a scooter club that does weekend breakfast rides. This past Sunday we rode from Jacksonville to Palatka to check out Angels. Upon arrival, we fit about half of our group 16 inside and the rest outside on the shaded picnic tables. The car isn't very big so our large group almost took up the entire thing. The two waitresses were efficient and friendly taking orders and refilling drinks. As spots became available inside, the outside group members moved inside. And there was little confusion when orders came out, so kudos to the ladies. Food took a few minutes extra to come out, likely due to the large set of orders all at one. Everyone seemed to enjoy their food. I had a grilled cheese and my husband had eggs and corned beef hash which he enjoyed. I saw others with an omelet, various egg dishes, and even a NY strip and eggs. On the ride I developed a killer headache. I asked the waitress if there was a store where I could get some headache meds nearby and apparently they have a little shelf with different products. She gave me an individual packet of much needed Excedrin and I thanked her many times. By the time we were done and ready to head back to town, my headache was gone and I could enjoy the ride. read more

Food- a unique mustard relish that I will order heavy next time. The burger is old-school flavors reminded me of grilling in the park on a summer day in dry heat Cali. It's a solid 5 stars and the fries, same for for them. I learned a life hack at this place. Place a saltine cracker in your granulated spices to keep the humidity from causing it to clump. So the hamburger is a solid 5, but I dropped a star (out of 5) because of the sexist language in the menu. There's a comment that the 1lb burger is for real men only. The establishments stayed too true to their 30-50's theme, with language throw backs that aren't in good taste for the year 2018. read more

The decor is a bit dated, but for all that is holy, if it was furnished with granite countertops and brass railings it would take away from the taste of the food. Order yourself a burger topped with this wonderful mustard relish because you won't regret it. The fries were tasty and included a couple of "free" onion rings..... food marketing at it's most basic level.... win over their stomach the rest will follow. read more

Went there for lunch one day. Tried the Pork Chop Sandwhich with some Fried Pickles on the side. Not impressed. The pickles were allright-but-greasy (they /are/ fried pickles after all). On the other hand, the pork chop was just plain old bad. It had the taste of a not-properly-thawed-out meat patty. If that wasn't bad enough, the sandwhich also had bones in it! Sandwhiches should not have bones in them. The last insult is that the water tasted swampy at best. The only thing this place has going for it is that it's Florida's oldest diner. Retro diner, great vibe so we had to give it a try, especially being Florida's oldest diner. I went for the Swiss and Bacon burger with fries, the burger was good but the fries were just too oily and unseasoned. We also tried the shakes, I got my chocolate shake in a polystyrene cup, to my confusion with no cream or a cherry on top. Shake was okay. I saw pictures online of a milkshake glass with cream and cherry on top, five minutes later I see milkshakes being made, poured into the retro glass, cream and cherry. I asked why I didn't get that and they said I didn't ask for it and they don't usually include cream. What diner in the United States of America does not include this standard sat down in the diner, what rubbish. To my shock, they even offered to add cream to my almost empty shake but then had to inform me they just ran out. Disappointing and won't ever be going back. read more

I've stopped by a couple of times a year since my last review. Came in at 6:00pm Sunday evening with a family of five. There were nine seats available at the counter so we sat, eager to show off for our out of town friends. We ordered, we asked to have two tickets (the family wanted to pay for their own). Drinks took over ten minutes. We waited a half hour, there was no time to ask if we wanted refills. I was able to walk over to the docks to get a pair of glasses! Drink refills came at 7:00pm. I watched the tickets hanging in the window sit for many minutes without changing. It was seeming that the cook staff were not especially in a hurry to get orders out. Food came out at 7:15pm, onion rings were great but my burger (with only tomato) was luke warm. We were on a tight schedule to get boat home by sunset, so I went to the cashier to pay my tab... She did not know which tab was mine and acted a bit put out to have to search for my particular bill, so I paid for at least seven tabs just so we could get moving along. I was very embarrassed for my guests, who were a bit miffed that I paid $113.00 for a cold burger and onion rings. Angel's is normally a great place for family and guests but I think on a Sunday evening they resented having a small crowd show up three hours before closing. I'm thinking the cashier lady might have been unhappy with my ten dollar tip, but that was for my order of hamburger, onion rings and cheeseburger with fries and one coke. Planned my trip to Palatka around coming here. Vintage old train car converted into a diner car. My family and I sat at the counter and ordered hamburgers, fried fish and onion rings. For me Angels has an average tasting hamburger. Not bad but not the best. However it is huge! I got the double meat with cheese and could not finish it. The waitresses were quite hospitable. The prices were very reasonable. I ordered the fried chicken gizzards and livers with a side of French fries. They were cooked to perfection. I take issue with the fries not matching the description in the menu. They were glorified as "still having the peels" but these came from nothing more than a frozen bag. By far one of the top 5 burgers I've ever had. The meat was juicy and fresh, the patty was lightly packed and seasoned. I added bacon which was crispy and thick. Fries were good but onion rings looked amazing. The prices were very reasonable and you def leave feeling full. The employees were polite and friendly which is a breath of fresh air this day and age. It's definitely neat eating in an old diner car like that. I highly recommend this place if your traveling through Palatka. I can't recommend anything else on the menu because the burger is all I had but everything else everyone was eating looked great and they seemed happy. Can't wait to go here again read more

We ate a late breakfast here while out for a Sunday drive. Palatka is a very run down city but it still has some of the hallmarks of "Old Florida'" and has the potential to be a much more attractive historic destination. We selected this diner because of the positive reviews we read on Trip Advisor. The restaurant is an ancient, run down railroad car. It truly looks like a diner instead of a replica of a diner. It is in extremely poor repair and is a cramped and uncomfortable place where counter diners can look straight into the kitchen through the dirty dishes pass though. The whole effect of the restaurant is tremendously unappetizing. Why doesn't the hotel and restaurant regulatory agency enforce health and sanitation standards in this place? The fried pickles were very good. The link sausage had some ground bone in them but were otherwise acceptable.. The wait staff was friendly and attentive. My over easy eggs were properly cooked. The grits were lumpy and cold. My husband's omelet was mediocre. The coffee and the water were fine. The hamburgers that were being served to others looked very good and the onion rings looked even better than the fried pickles. My counter mate said they were excellent and they looked it. If the health department would do their job, we would go back. The restaurant had curb service you can get by parking under an awning and honking your horn. The whole effect was like an unkempt time capsule from the 1940's. This dive claimed to be the oldest diner in Florida and it certainly looked it. We wish this diner well and hope they get a little more pride about themselves. read more

Pretty decent food. Prices are low and the staff are friendly. This is a good spot to grab a quick no frills meal that is easy on your wallet. You can also say that you've had a meal in Floridas oldest diner which happens to be in an old train dining car. Don't expect to be wowed by the food though. it's just ok at best.
