WOW. Angleton is a small town and we weren't expecting a five-star restaurant. And it wasn't a five star in ambience but in the quality of the service and certainly in the quality of the food it was superb! I had the seafood gumbo which at the age of 71 I never expected to have one dish I rated in the top three ever had. And the fish was great and so was the meal my wife had. My first impression about this establishment is that Angela, the Hostess was AWESOME!!! Her customer service was off the chain. Now let me back up, I was running through to file something in Angleton and was on my way back to Houston and decided to stop for something to go. They have a very extensive menu. I opted on the 2 piece catfish and 9 shrimp that came with fries. Or as Angela offered, I could substitute the fries for grilled, veggies, onion rings or something else. The fish and shrimp were fried perfectly. I enjoyed the shrimp better than the catfish because I believe that it was Basa and not "our" catfish, lol. I added a little seasoning when I went home. Food was not good, service wasn't bad though. I ordered the 14oz ribeye and shrimp, steak cooked medium, with a baked potato and a salad. The steak came out rare and as soon as the potato hit my stomach, I became nauseous. First time that I have experienced food bad enough to have me throwing it up less than 30 minutes later. You can't beat it for the price. It's worth the drive from Lake Jackson to go here instead due to the cleaner facilities and better all around experience. Last night my husband had gumbo and grilled snapper and I had grilled snapper covered in etouffee. $30 plus tax and tip. I would have been happy at twice the price (in a different setting). Ambiance says diner, and I never see evidence of a manager teaching table waiting skills or teamwork. However, our waitress was pleasant and reasonably efficient. When she was tied up in taking care of a huge group, another delightful woman stepped in to bring to-go containers and our check. The restaurant is very well maintained, open, and family oriented. There is beautiful paintings on the wall and the overall atmosphere is fantastic! We proceeded to order our food and drinks. Went for our sons 9th birthday dinner. He was so excited. I was skeptical after reading so many poor reviews. However I can say I am very happy we went. Angleton Seafood was conveniently located and has plenty of well lit parking. We had no wait as we were greeted promptly and kindly. There is a large waiting area with seating if we did have to wait. The restaurant was clean and not to noisy. There are plenty of booths and tables to choose from. TV's located throughout the restaurant. The menus are simple and not overwhelming. The food choices are good and are reasonably priced. Our waitress Lisa was very nice and attentive. We ordered the kids plate 2 piece fish and fries (under $7) IT WAS HUGE and fresh. We also ordered a 15 pc. large fried shrimp with fries and a side salad (about $15). It too was a great deal, a nice helping and fresh. The shrimp were the perfect size. I would prefer the fries to be a little more crunchy. But they were still good. The side salad looked weak (light yellow pieces) it was actually good with the ranch dressing they have. I had a great experience and will be going back again soon. Perhaps the bad reviews were for the grand opening...sometimes paces have a rough start and over time will work out the kinks. Decided to try this out as it is new. Let me start by saying that anyone who eats here, make sure they are not lying about the kind of fish they serve, my wife was not really hungry so we decided to get the kids fish meal. When she asked the waitor what type of fish it was, the waitor said it was catfish, when the meal arrived it was definitely not catfish! We asked the waitor again what type of fish it was, and again, he swore it was catfish..... The only thing good here was the chicken strips we ordered for our son! I normally never wrote a review on here but being lied to multiple times about the actual type of fish is completely unacceptable! One star is overrated (I am forced to give at least one???) for my experience! My wife and I walked in the hostess was chatting with a waitress and some young man all dressed up pretty. They just looked at us. I had to ask are you open? and was told to go sit anywhere. We walked in and sat at a table. I was facing the hostess stand and for 10 minutes (literally 10 minutes) the three stood there laughing showing pictures on there phone and having a good time. There was an other waiter serving the only other two tables that were in the place seamlessly doing a good job. We were not offered a menu a drink no one came to our table. After the 10 minutes we got up and were leaving and when we were passing the hostess stand the hostess asked are you leaving? We answered yes. The waitress said I was just on my way over, The hostess interrupted and asked why are you leaving? We answered because we have been here 10 minutes and no one helped us. She said that's not my fault I'm just the hostess my reply was if she was doing her job making sure the costumers were being taken care of instead of sharing pictures and laughing my waitress could have been doing her job and taking care of us and we walked out!!! I then called Lake Jackson Seafood and asked if they owned Angleton Seafood also and was told yes the same people owned both. I left my name and number for the owner to call me back to give them my complaint and not write a bad review but they didn't care enough to give me a call... Please stay away from a non caring restaurant that don't give a hoot about the people that keep them in business especially during Covid19. We waited so long for Angleton Seafood to open & it has such a nice building & location. We've been several times since it has opened & all but the very first time have been very disappointing. The service has been terrible, the orders are delivered very slow & several times were filled incorrectly. The food we've ordered has been disappointing, to say the least. Not even a one star. I bought chicken strips from the kids menu and the strips were completely raw in the inside. When I called to speak to the manager, the girl that answered the phone hesitated then said she was the manager. I asked her for the name of the owner and she said "Lee". I told her what happened and she only offered to cook them longer if I brought them up there...not a little raw in the inside, totally raw. I was excited to tryout Angleton Seafood on a visit back home. The building is new and clean. The food was the worst seafood I've ever had in my life. I got the grilled seafood. The fish was inedible because it was greatly overcooked and extremely salty. The scallops were overcooked and chewy. The shrimp was also overcooked and tool some chewing. The fried calamari was saturated in a thick batter which completely mask the flavor of calamari leaving you with only the taste of fried batter. The menu is extensive with much more than seafood although seafood is the main focus. Most of the choices are fried but there also are boiled, broiled, and grilled. The quantities are large and the prices pretty low compared to the seafood restaurants in Houston. My husband and I both ordered combos with fish and shrimp. He got French fries and I got onion rings. The meal also came with a choice of cole slaw or salad. I got the salad with blue cheese dressing on the side. Unfortunately, the salad consists of only iceberg lettuce, which I will eat but much prefer my salads to contain Romaine or other types of lettuce. The fried shrimp were very tasty - a light coating of batter and plump. The fish was okay but I prefer cornmeal batter. The onion rings tasted pretty good but I didn't like the batter, reminds me of the pre-fab frozen onion rings you sometimes get. I like either flour or cornmeal batter. I was hungry for some good fried catfish for dinner so I decided to take my family to this new place that opened in Angleton. We got seated right away since it was not busy and it took a while for the server to appear to get our drink order. My daughter and wife ordered cokes and I ordered sweet tea. The waitress stated that they had no sweet tea since the owner did not want them to make sweet tea at that time of the evening which was 8:45 p.m. I completely found that totally idiotic. We then ordered 2 shrimp dinners with fries and cole-slaw and a catfish dinner with fries and cole-slaw. When we got our dinners I was surprised to see that the fries were old, soggy and looked like they had been under a heat lamp. The cole-slaw tasted like someone had tripped with a bottle of vinegar or didn't follow the recipe. Needless to say I called the waitress and asked for the manager on duty. He came to our table and listen to how disappointed I was with the food especially the fries. He went on to blame the French fry issues on the food supplier and how the food supplier was asked to bring better fries. REALLY!!! McDonalds and Jack-In-The-Box have way better fries!! My bill was $40 and all the "manager" was able to do was a 15% discount. I asked this manager to have the owner call me or email me to see if he cared for my business but it seems that he does care one bite since I have yet to get a call asking me to give it another chance. Never eat at Angleton Seafood unless you want to be terribly sick and make the toilet your new best friend, or want to make a call to the Health Department. I plan to do so, for sure. Let's just say every part of our meal tonight was messed up from the drinks - the entrees (I never even tasted my meal) and that our appetizer that the waiter recommended was brought out wrong and was told to us by another waitress that someone else was eating on our fried pickles at another table before it was brought to us, to fix the mistake. And that the calamari (spelled wrong in their menu, by the way, along with "potato") was brought to another table after we touched it, not even seeing it wasn't fried pickles first. The manager (who must have also been the dishwasher) showed no remorse or even apologized and then asked us to leave after I politely excused myself and had a conversation with him at the front of the restaurant around no other customers, instead of making a scene at the table. It was really awful. They showed pictures of a big beautiful crawfish boil, yeah when I ordered the fried crawfish tails they were the Frozen little bitty tiny ones no bigger than your fingernail that come Frozen in a bag from Japan. The cocktail sauce tasted like sweet and sour sauce from an Asian restaurant, never heard of coleslaw where you use more mustard than anything else. Can't even begin to tell you what the tartar sauce was. The potatoes were frozen the only thing that seemed fresh was the oysters and since everything else was so bad you're kind of scared to eat those. The service how ever was amazing. But they did only have like four tables and this was at like 7:30 on a Tuesday night so we probably should have known something was up when there were no cars in the parking lot. Really I'm sorry. We were there on a Saturday afternoon and they were busy. The service was good but the food left a lot to be desired. I ordered fried red snapper and was served catfish - and it was cold. I told our waiter that I could taste the difference between catfish and red snapper and he shrugged, saying that they do have catfish in the same serving container in the kitchen. There was no offer to make it right. Another customer overheard my comments to the waiter and he told me the same thing had just happened to him - he was served catfish instead of snapper. On the way out as we were paying, the hostess asked us if everything was satisfactory and I told her when I order snapper, I want snapper, not catfish. People on the Gulf Coast who eat a lot of fish can tell the difference between catfish and other fish. I didn't get what I ordered or paid for and the food was cold.
