I came in from NYC to visit family and we came for dinner, and I was sold. The lemon drop martini with the sugar rim and the chorizo deviled eggs were perfection. I had the steak frites for an entree and it was prepared perfectly. The blend of flavors was a true culinary hit. The service was also on point. My party was greeted warmly by the staff and they were very attentive. The place was moderately busy but they made us feel very welcome. I will definitely be back on my next trip into town. Stopped in Wednesday late afternoon just in time for their 4-6pm daily Happy Hour. Nice variety of cocktails and a few apps all at $5-$6 each. They hand make all mixes, so all of our drinks were superb. We tried 4 of the 5 happy hour cocktails: The bees knees, expresso martini, the paloma, and our classic margarita all hit the spot and were all well made. Definitely try the coconut margarita! Our happy hour apps were good. We iked the deviled eggs more than the very generously portioned cheesy bread with marinara sauce. The Thai bang shrimp was very tasty and our side of cheesy grits was smooth and piping hot. We grabbed a couple of their entrées to go, but tasted them before leaving. The special of the night was amazing: tilapia with cream sauce and noodles- a big portion too. The chicken fried chicken was very good too, perfectly fried and cooked. We went on Sunday when brunch was being served. It has a really nice atmosphere in an old downtown building. My wife had the avocado tostados and I had the steak hash. Her eggs were cooked just right and she ate those and the tomato slices. Her strawberry was old and bruised and the avocado smash had a fizzy taste that made her nervous so she didn't eat that. My eggs were also cooked just right (over easy) and the potatoes tasted great. The meat was a little over seasoned and resulted in some heartburn. Our server was friendly and prompt and was very responsive when we pointed out our issues. We'd probably go back for supper at some point. read more

It's been about 6 months since we've been here. I have to say I was extremely disappointed in this visit. The bar and the service was decent. The food didn't meet expectations. Our appetizer, Urban Queso, lacked flavor. For our entrees, I got the Teriyaki Salmon Bowl, the only thing that was hot were my veggies. The Ribeye, ordered medium rare-which is the way steak should be ordered- was overcooked and cold, it was like chewing leather. But the ambiance was chic -- I liked the tile wall, the neon quip, and the Halloween decor (gold skeleton at the hostess stand, cute). But the food! Chicken caesar salad: romaine leaves served whole, in a bowl, made them very difficult to cut. I gave up with the last two leaves and simply ate them by hand. The chicken had no taste, and the salad itself was very skimpy on romaine (and very abundant on croutons -- odd). My husband's meatloaf and mashed potatoes were underwhelming -- no thought to presentation at all, just a hunk of meat slammed onto a plate next to a pile of potatoes. To me, the potatoes tasted like instant, and the meatloaf had no oomph to it. Not to mention, it was labeled as grilled -- no evidence of that. Serviice was lackluster: when I was asked if they could get us anything, I said water. She brought ME water, none for my husband. On a positive note, the drinks were surprisingly good. We came here for my mother's birthday on the 9th, and I honestly would have preferred to have gone somewhere else. The service was incredibly slow, the server (while sweet) didn't seem to know her own menu, and we weren't made to feel like a priority despite being one of only four parties in the entire restaurant aside from a few bar patrons. The deviled eggs were lackluster and greasy, skip those. The queso was okay? But I couldn't tell if I was actually happy with it or if I was hungry from how long it took to get our actual meals. Drinks were good, I always love a spot that has a dedicated mocktail menu with nonalcoholic liquors. The best dish was their Braised Beef Rib and mashed potatoes, 10/10, 5 star review for that dish.. Other food, however, not the same energy.. Queso appetizer tasted like velveeta cooked in chorizo oil and the chips tasted like they were cooked in old oil days prior. Well, what a pleasant and enjoyable new find for my usual Sunday Brunch "where to eat now" dilemma! Sunday, April 21, 2024, Mom & I thought to investigate Brunch at Urban Salt Kitchen. What a discovery!! First, the decor was fun, hip, very urban and a change from the typical rural decor of older established eateries in West Texas. The space is open, welcoming with an inviting Bar area and comfortable Bankette & Table setting. I was was greeted very quickly and pleasantly at the Host Stand, told the very nice young lady that I was waiting for a second diner to arrive, was offered to be seated, but decided to wait at the Bar. The Bartender this Sunday was Paul. A very friendly and knowledgeable bartender who immediately set me up with water, menu & a setup. I informed him I was waiting for someone. He kindly offered me a seat. His friendly demeanor & smile put me at ease and made me feel welcome. When my dinning partner arrived, we were quickly and professionally seated in Brandon's section. Brandon was an experienced waiter, put us at ease, explained both the Brunch & Regular menus; both available at the Brunch time slot. My Mom had the Bourbon Pecan Pancakes w/ a side of bacon (which could have been a bit crispier), a small side of mixed berries and a Mimosa. She LOVED the Pancakes & the Mimosa. I ordered from the regular menu - a "Starter" called the Ahi Tuna Nachos. The "nacho" element was done with crispy fried wantons. There were a bit too many for my liking. This Starter was more of an Ahi Tuna Salad.....the mixed greens were perfect and generous, the Sushi grade Ahi was fresh & delicious, the diced avacado was a perfect addition, the zesty, slightly spicy aoli dressing DELICIOUS! This Starter is an excellent stand alone entre salad. I recommend it highly and will be going back soon to have it again. Urban Salt Kitchen may be my new first choice dinning out destination. By the way, I had a PERFECTLY made Moscow Mule from the Bartender Paul. He knows how to mix a cocktail! My only criticism would be the Wine List. Was disappointed there were NO wines by the glass other than a single Preseco option. Too sweet for my palette. No Merlots, Cabernets or Chardonnays by the glass. AND, NO PRICES printed in the menu for their limited selection of bottled wine. Not good. Leaves a patron rethinking wine with their meal. When I brought up the subject if USK was ok with BYOB, and if so what would be the corkage fee ($$), niether Brandon, Paul or any staff there at the time could answer my question. Management should decide on this issue AND offer more "wines by the glass" options so their beautiful bar area would become a go to destination for "after work" meetings with friends. Overall, I loved Urban Salt Kitchen. Its been open two years and I have only now discovered this new dinning out jewel right here in San Angelo. I will go back again VERY SOON!!!! read more

Our server forgot to get our appetizer but we didn't say anything because the prices were a little high for San Angelo anyways. We ordered ribeyes which were listed at market value. I ordered mine medium, but some parts were medium, some parts were extra rare and some were well done. The steak was definitely a choice cut that we paid nearly $50 for. Save yourself some money and try something cheaper that you can't mess up! Our server took about 20 minutes after we were done eating to drop off the check. When he realized we were waiting he said, "sorry I was talking with the boss." We also asked if they did military discount. He said, no we don't which is weird because the owner is a vet. New to San Angelo, came in here for happy hour... everything was good other than we were told the chef wasn't working the night we were there so the food took a while to come out and honestly was cold and not prepared well. The waitress comped the food because it looked so bad... and apologized. It wasn't her fault. Seems like it's a good quiet place to grab a cocktail after work. The waitress recommended we try it out on weekend so we'll come back and give it another try. I think we just picked a bad night to go. They were also out of a lot of things on the menu. I'm not sure if they just had a truck come in late or if they just don't carry certain things on the menu anymore, but it seemed like the first few things we ordered they were out of so not everything on the menu is not available. I'm in from Little Rock Arkansas for business and found this gem! I had an amazing Cherry mocktail and the Fish and Chips. It was soo good. I'm not normally a fan of fried fish but this was so flavorful and good. The homemade tartar sauce was amazing! Sat at the bar with Joey and was very personable and kind. When urban salt first opened in 2022 we loved it. The food, the service, the drinks, atmosphere, everything was GREAT. We became regulars very quickly and our daughter was affectionately known as the "urban baby" lol over the last 6-9months things have severely gone down hill. The chef left so food has changed and not for the better. Ownership changed so waitstaff went with it, again not for the better. Food is OK, often bland, service is SLOW, and they are always short staffed. Drinks are still pretty good but they take a significant amount of time to reach your table. We are sad to say what was once our favorite restaurant in town is one we no longer frequent and even decide against when it comes up in conversation. Hoping things can get back on track. read more

One of the worst restaurant experiences I've ever had. Me and a group of 4 friends went to eat here for New Year's Eve, and I understand not having enough people to work but we were basically getting ignored. We arrived a little after 7 when we had made a reservation for 5 people at 7-7:15 p.m. the day before. We proceeded to not even have our order taken for the next 30 minutes until we asked a random waiter since we got fed up seeing people that entered after us already having appetizers brought out to them. It took probably about 15 minutes for them to tell me after I ordered that they didn't have what I ordered available, so I ordered the downtown tacos instead. We got the first 2 meals around 8, and ended up getting the 3rd and 4th meal around 8:30 and we asked where the 5th was (the first order taken) they had completely lost it. We ended up getting the last meal around 8:50. 10 minutes before close, and 2 hours later. Thankfully they were kind enough to let that meal be on the house since they had lost it (we didn't even complain about it, so thank you Urban Salt). Another thing that bothered me was the fact we were there for 2 hours and had our drinks refilled ONCE. Even though the experience was more than lackluster, the staff was always kind when they came by even if that was only 3-4 times., just seemed a little dismissive and in too much of a hurry (we would try to ask for a refill but they would already be walking away). Now for the food. The bolognese tasted and smelled straight up like wine so they must've used way too much. The salmon pasta tasted fine just needed salt, the fish and chips were good, the birria tacos were good, the downtown tacos were un flavorful but that might just be how it's supposed to be (the cilantro lime rice it came with had too much lime juice and the black beans were fine). But $20 for a glass of water, 3 tacos with hardly any meat, and less than a cup of rice or beans seems kinda ridiculous. read more

Tostones weren't even warm and the octopus was over cooked to where it was difficult to cut. I did ask if the octopus was supposed to be this tough and I got told "sometimes it is" Presentation was amazing but unfortunately the lack of everything else trumped. Service was okay, didn't necessarily like how loud the waitstaff were gossiping. I get that I came in a slow time, but wow!
