This was our first time visiting Angry Pepper and it was a lot of fun! We went for the $2 bloody marys and of course they were good. We had a great table overlooking a bit of the water. The best part though was the service and staff! They were very personable and attentive. As it was Sunday mid-morning, we didn't eat but had they had brunch, we definitely would have. I hadn't been there since it was recently sold and I was disappointed with my tacos. I always ordered the brisket because it was so tender and juicy but not today. It was dry sliced pieces of meat. You'd never know it was smoked for 16 hours as it previously was. read more

Went back after a long absence... not really the same. It was around 9:30 and the bar while well staffed, seemed more interested in getting the closing chores done than waiting on customers. After 10 min or so we were served. The person next to us had a person meet them and after flagging down a bartender was finally served. I am a BBQ snob a Certified Mast BBQ Judge for KCBS and former member of a First Pace team in the American Royal, beating more than 420 teams from all over the World in the Brisket competition. It was my pleasure to have lunch at The Angry Pepper today. Finally a restaurant serving brisket from the "point" the most flavorable of 2 cuts from the whole brisket. Tender and melting in my mouth. It is served with sauce. Personally I prefer not to have it sauced, but that is my personal preference. My belief is that good meat does not need sauce. They were not hiding anything with the sauce; it is darned good meat naked. My favorite sides were the Smokey baked beans, onion rings and fried green tomatoes. My wife's pulled pork was excellent. I prefer a vinegar based Cole slaw compared to their creamy slaw; just my preference to cut thru the smoke and fat of pork and brisket. Selection of beers on tap was incredible and the staff offered several for me to sample since I did not recognize many of them. Surprise! Blind tasting resulted in my choosing one of my favs, Bell's Two Hearted Ale. I am introducing myself as a new regular customer. I won't go out of my way to eat here again. It's a seat-yourself kind of place and unless you're at the bar, you're 'off the radar' for service. They were woefully understaffed as well, which probably accounted for the food being luke warm by the time we got it. They serve their fish spread with tortilla chips rather than crackers. The fish spread was alright, but didn't work well on corn chips. If you order cheese on your hot dog, a little cup of shredded cheese comes on the side. Since the food wasn't hot by the time we got it, it never did melt. The wings were decent but barely had any sauce on them. Luckily the BBQ at one of the nearby-tables helped out. Everything we had was disappointing and didn't live up to how amazing it all sounded on the menu. The beer selection was passable, but they were out of many things. It was busy, so I understand that. Loud, obnoxious, drunken patrons (people literally yelling across the tables at one another), excessive wait times and mediocre food. The pulled pork and the burgers were dry and flavorless. You know this place is hit or miss. We have been there several times and the food has been great and then other times it has been total crap! Ribs over cooked, sides cold and service is so/so. I honestly have never been to a restaurant where the server discourages us from not to ordering the smoked ribs because they have been coming out dried all day. I appreciated the advice but found it very strange for a server to not recommend an item that is a staple for the AP Smokehouse. Lastly I'm not sure what type of patrons the Angry Pepper is catering too: with mix and match glassware/ plastic ware and the local drunk that sits in the corner annoying the staff and patrons. Overall the restaurant seems very dysfunctional and there is an obvious lack of good management skills in control of the day to day operations. The food was 50/50. Fried grouper tacos and grilled cheese were good. Sausage sandwich was bad. Fried green tomatoes were good. Beer was cold with good selection. Stopped by for lunch. Service was outstanding. I had the carnitas tacos and the gumbo. Both were excellent. The tacos each had a large portion of of lean, flavorful pork. The gumbo had great flavor and plenty of meat. Prices are fair as well. read more

The food and atmosphere were excellent. However the parking was confusing and when you walk in it is seat yourself but there was not a sign. They seemed to be a bit understaffed as it took a long time for anyone to come get our order and a long time for the food to arrive(it's barbecue!) but once the food got there it was delicious, fresh and hot! I had the half rack of ribs which was a HUGE portion and they were smoky and delicious. My guy had the Brisket and it was a good portion as well and he liked it a lot. Decent ambience, but the food was suspect. I had the smoked chicken, it tasted too much of smoke, it was like charcoal. Barbecue sauce drowned the briquette taste but overall and overwhelming smoke flavor. I am going to regret eating it but I was starved. The sweet potato fries were OK, but mushy. I'm not sure what the heck they can do about charcoal flavor, but I've eaten much BBQ, and that was just too much smoke flavor. Then again, if it's your thing, knock yourself. We were out on a boat with some friends over the weekend and decided to stop here for lunch. My first impression was that it looked like a pretty cool place. It's a smaller bar, but they have a nice outdoor area with tables and a bar as well as an indoor area. They have a decent selection of craft beers, but they don't serve any liquor. The thing that really turned me off about the place was the slow service. It took about 10 minutes for us to just get our drinks. I can't say I was that impressed with the food either. I had the Philly cuban. The pork had decent flavor, but the rest of the sandwich just tasted like it was missing something. It wasn't a total bad experience, but at the same time I'm not sure if I would really have a reason to go back. read more

We read the menu online and were very excited to try this place. I would like to leave a review about the food but I can not because we never got our order. We walked through the doors at 7 and had ordered by 7:10. By 8:00 our waitress had not been back and people that sat and ordered long after us were getting their food. My husband got up to ask the waitress where our food was and she explained that other people's orders were pre-made items so they got prepared before ours. She had no idea where our ticket was. What being this type of seating get's you is smoking? Like it or not. But not inside even though the inside to me is still like outside. No A/C but plenty of blowers and mister's. I've been here quite a few times and even when it's the hottest day's of summer it's still tolerable. Great beer selection with usually over 100 brews in house. Many on tap and if not on tap they still have a lot of great craft brews. They have a really good menu and great recipes. Problem is food prep and service quality is based on who's working and when you go. Luch is usually a better time for service and food prep quality as they are not as busy. When they are busy it's more hit or miss. I had the angry Bubba. A great spicy burger when cooked right. Just that some days they are undercooked, some over and some spot on. This visit overcooked. Hence the 3 star rating. Most days I've ever been here and I've been enough to know it's either 3 or 4. Never a 5. Menu selection varies across a lot of different foods kind of like the beer selection. If you are drinking they will keep your glass full. That is a long as it's not water, soda or iced tea. On this visit i asked for a water refill when my burger and my (very delicious) corn chowder arrived. After I finished eating I laid my CC out to get somebody's attention and upon that was finally offered my water refill. Too late at that point with my overcooked burger. Overall I still recommend this place to friends and people from out of town. It's close to the beach but not at it, has a great selection of beer, lot's of TV's for games etc and good background music when there is not a game playing on TV. Plus lot's of friendly locals usually there. If you want to kick back, have a few beer's tack a chance on a good to pretty good meal near the beach this is a decent place. Give it a try. read more

This is down the block from my house so I love the location. It's on the water with open air seating mainly. The menu is a bit different with a lot of smokey items. Docks next to seawalls are for non-motorized vessels only (too shallow for motors, but perfect for kayaks and such). They are dog-friendly outside. Service was accurate and friendly and food was good. The pulled pork was great in the burrito (which I ordered as a bowl - without the tortilla).
