Just realized it's been a little while since I hyped up the best pet groomer in the world and the cute little spa I bring my fur babies too. My pups are almost 2 and 3 years old now and Gabby has been their groomer for their entire lives. Gabby is patient, talented and overall a dope human. My babies are always so well taken care of and always look so fresh and fly whenever they come from seeing Gabby. I became a mom to a human baby this year and naturally fell off for a little while in terms of grooming my pups at home in between their appointments with Gabby (breastfeeding, sleep deprived mom here). Although I would beat myself up (thanks mom guilt), Gabby never made me feel like a horrible dog mom. In fact, Gabby has been supportive, understanding and very patient while I got back on track with my pups. Now, Gabby stays booked and busy so sometimes I have the urge to gatekeep her, but I know that's not fair. So I'm writing this post for other loving dog (& cat) parents out there who are looking for a trustworthy groomer who also does a phenomenal job. Also, Liz at the front desk is a gem! She's also been so supportive and helpful with getting my pups in and out the door for their appointments and helping me pre-book their appointments. I've watched her multi-task on more than one occasion and she never misses a beat. The other groomers in the shop are always polite and friendly too looking up to briefly say hello/acknowledge you which makes this place feel warm and inviting. Also, like with everything else the prices went up ever so slightly which at first I was like :-/ but then I walked into the spa yesterday and saw they updated the space and it made me feel better. As a regular customer, you notice when a business takes pride in itself vs those that "let themselves go" and it was refreshing and reassuring to see that the location had been spruced up. The white walls were boring and drab before but now they have an adorable design that reflects a good energy. Our fur babies are our heartbeats and our lifeline for many of us and the new design reflects that vibe. Keep up the good work, ALC!!! read more

I don't leave reviews really but I feel like I have to here. The men at the front desk were very friendly and helpful but I had an opposite experience once we got to the grooming building across the street. I brought my two cats for bath/brush/nails. Appt at 2:30, I was 10 minutes late. I called to check in on my one cat who has asthma and breathing issues and was extremely stressed when I dropped him off. The dogs were running around loose in the grooming area which I'm sure is a plus for dog owners but not for me bringing in two cats. The lady checking me in said she only had one cat on the schedule, even though I booked and was confirmed via email for two. They just made a place in the corner on the floor to leave my cats until they were ready. I had called to see if my older cat had calmed down at all...they said they'd check and let me know but 30 minutes passed and nothing so I had to call again, which made me nervous. They said they'd check hadn't even started on them. This was an hour after I had dropped them off. When I picked them up they were just in the carriers on the floor in the corner again, sitting in piles of dog hair. Their carriers are covered with it. You couldn't have even wiped it off? Since this was CLEARLY not an environment I feel is safe or comfortable by any stretch of the imagination for cats I felt confused. I asked if they typically do cats. Yes they do. Okay, is there a designated cat grooming time or better time to come with cats versus dogs? They said yes in the mornings. So why didn't anyone mention that to me while booking? I'm sure this place is great for dog owners as the reviews suggest but I would absolutely NOT recommend bringing a cat here unless you want to feel like an afterthought. I wish I would've just turned around and went somewhere else but I wanted to give it a shot and didn't want to be dramatic. We won't be coming back. read more

Harley, my pup, is groomed at ALC. He is walked by ALC's wonderful dog walkers and he has now boarded with them twice. Everyone who works at ALC really cares about dogs and I have never had a moment of worry when he is with them! Re boarding: I was so nervous about leaving Harley in boarding. He's pretty attached to me and also can get very overwhelmed when he's around a lot of other dogs. While he did have a bit of a tough time the first visit--everyone at ALC was so great. He had a doggy panic attack of sorts and I got a call right away. And when I followed up every day after, they got right back to my over-anxious dog mom self. The groomer was Indi and I cannot be happier with her job!! I showed her a picture of how I wanted her to style my dog and she did HER BEST to resemble the style I wanted. I mean, look at all these 5 star reviews. They don't need mine, but I'm leaving it anyway. First, we have had our now-nine-year-old long haired chihuahua groomed a lot of places. In Brooklyn, we did mainly the now-defunct Dog Wash n Go, where the groomer was never on time, where they whisked your dog down into a dark basement, where the prices seemed to be an act of whimsy on the part of the owner, depending on mood. Then we found ALC and specifically, we found Gabby. I don't know how much you know about chihuhuas, but they're not exactly known for their sweet temperament. I am always a little nervous when I leave our dog with someone, but not at ALC. First of all, scheduling couldn't be easier. Email, call. They will get back to you in an instant. Pricing is clear and honestly, the most reasonably priced groom you could possibly find in NYC. It's generally around 2 hrs to groom, all grooming is happening in front of your eyes, there is a lovely doggy waiting area for the freshly coiffed, and they always honor my request to not put my little biter amongst the other dogs. I also truly really really love our groomer, Gabby. Early on I asked her for no bows in Indie's hair. The next time I picked Indie up, she was wearing a bow tie instead. We are a two mom family and the idea that "no bows" might be our dog's gender identity still tickles me and impresses me. We moved from Brooklyn to northern NJ (please don't @me, I already am ashamed), and I had a hard time finding a groomer here that I could trust. Then on Thanksgiving night, our tiny Napoleon decided she would seize on two coyotes that ventured into her sight line at the airbnb we had rented. Needless to say, she ended up with some pretty serious injuries, stitches, drains, the nines. I couldn't bear to have her groomed. Her hair grew and grew and grew. I would like to tell you she looked like Rapunzel, but she looked like a homeless Dr. Seuss character. I had to do something. I called ALC and got put on Gabby's waiting list. Today I drove 2hr and 20m round trip and risked my life trying to park on Court Street because when I walked in with my shaggy little demon, Gabby dropped what she was doing and came to Indie with arms outstretched to love on her and express sympathies to me. She was sensitive to the spots on Indie's back where she was bitten, and did the fastidious, precise, gentle grooming job she always does. Knowing Indie was with Gabby put my mind at ease. So much so, that I am going to stop looking for a groomer here. Indie just clicks with Gabby, and ALC is a top notch, class act. I am unclear why Indie has never been featured on their instagram, but I will not take off a star (but I do have one raised eyebrow). NYC is a wonderful place, but also sometimes a hard place to find a doctor/ dentist/ roofer/ plumber etc to trust. Being able to put so much trust in all the folks at ALC is honestly worth any commute to me. read more

Prior to his boarding, he stayed in daycare several times to get acclimated and he also was groomed there. I got to see him everyday through IG and when I emailed asking about him, your staff was prompt and detailed. It made me feel so assured that Kasi was well taken of. He got groomed prior to being picked up today and he's happy and tired. You guys also celebrated his birthday with a Barkday! We have been using another facility in the neighborhood for a year since our Mia is just over a year old now and have had mostly a good experience. A friend recommended Animal Loving Care due to his experience and happiness with the results. We made an appointment, needed to bring medical records and here we go. We had an 11 AM appointment on Sunday and our Mia was taken promptly at 11 AM. Although the technicians were working on two other dogs I think we waited a reasonable amount of time about an hour and a half before Mia was finished. We had the opportunity to meet Gabby one of the technicians who seem to really enjoy her job. Her outgoing disposition and friendliness was amazing. Since Mia has been to groomers several times in the past she complemented her on what an excellent dog she was and how easy she was to work with. The results were way beyond what we had anticipated she came out looking like a real toy poodle, well bichon poodle mix. She was looking better than we had ever dreamed and now we think we have found our new groomers in the future. Price wise A tad less than what we had been paying but the personalize service, and the feeling we got leaving sealed the deal. Our pet meant some thing to someone else and it wasn't just a job to her. I can only say continued success to animal loving care. I brought in my 6 month old maltipoo puppy Luna for a full grooming by Lexa. Her hair was getting LONG and she could barely see so I had to bring her in. The atmosphere overall when walking in is very welcoming and you can tell that all the groomers know what they're doing! Lexa was amazing! We spoke a bit before I dropped Luna off and she gave me some tips and tricks on how I should maintain her hair in between grooming. Just returned from another successful trip to the Spaw. I have a nervous Havanese who has separation anxiety and a general fear of grooming. We used to go to another place who would keep all dogs in cages while they waited their turn; that was not a great situation for our dog. One of the things I love about the Spaw is that the dogs either roam free before/after their grooming, or they're in a pen close to the window where they can see out to the street. I really appreciate this as it's better for my dog to have some freedom to roam. And Lexa's cuts are the best! She is so warm and truly seems to care about all the dogs. She's a true professional. She made sure my baby was well taken care of and I'm so happy with the results! Gabby is AMAZING!
