After trying out different local trainers and self-teaching myself with internet materials, I was eager to see if I could learn more from Animal Minds Behavior & Training. I wanted to work on getting better engagement with my two year old German Shepherd Kona and I wasn't sure what I was missing. What I loved most about my session with Terra was that she met me where I was at in my training journey. We worked with Susan! We chose the off-leash board and train option for our rambunctious and spunky 10 month old corgi. Roux lacked a lot of manners, was pushy when it came towards other dogs in play time, and lacked impulse control. He was your stereotypical, overly-friendly dog who was too smart for his own good. Prior to bringing our puppy home my wife and I decided we would commit to a trainer and not do everything ourselves. This was the best decision we could have made for our Toller, Maisey Mae as we received more correction than our puppy did. Terra was very quick to communicate after I sent off my email and was 2 of 5 companies that even returned my email as I searched for a trainer. I appreciated her time and ability to give me some guidance prior to even having or even knowing what sex my puppy was going to be. After our first session with Terra we were quick to book the package and continue with not only training Maisey but training us. We found that we were making multiple command mistakes that lead to confusion and communication breakdown with Maisey. After just one session we saw Maisey paying attention more, less distracted, and we were set up with a clear plan. We became aware of Susan through a family referral. We had recently adopted a puppy (Chloe) from a rescue organization and unfortunately had no clue what we were in for. We didn't know anything about her, her bread, her parents or where she came from. We soon found that this was not going to as easy as any of our other pups. We were struggling with training her as she was highly reactive to sounds, and when triggered by loud noises, her immediate response was to attack our other dog. Her energy level was through the roof, and it was often difficult to calm her when the house was busy. During the 2nd instance of her turning on our other dog, I was also bitten by her. I know she did not mean to bite me, but her energy was being exerted in such a negative way, I quickly lost trust in her and felt that we couldn't leave her alone with our other dogs at any time. When I met with Susan, she had high hopes for Chloe and assured me that this type of behavior could be corrected, and we could gain so much with proper training. We agreed to sending her to Susan for her board and train program. To this day, I am confident that this was a wonderful use of the money we paid. Chloe was bit harder to break of her negative behavior, but Susan was committed and continued working with her until she felt she was in a good spot. She kept reassuring me that she would learn how to behave and handle her emotions with proper training., even when I was doubtful and not as confident that we would be able to maintain her training at home. I can't say we are perfect, and for sure she could use some refreshers as I am sure we are a bit more lenient to her at home. We have had a few follow up sessions with Susan and Chloe has done a few short stays for boarding since being home. We are looking forward to Chloe spending time with Susan later this month for a refresh during her boarding time. We rescued a 4 month old hound mix and he was pretty easy to train when it came to the basics (sit, stay, down, come, etc.). But around 6 months old he started testing boundaries and developing behavioral issues. He became increasingly difficult to manage while working from home, so we sought the help of a trainer. She ultimately suggested we try an e-collar, which he seemed to respond well to. But as he moved into adolescence, his behavioral issues worsened and he eventually started blowing off the e-collar. We have a miniature Dachsaund named JoJo. We were having an extreme amount of issues with training him (ie: crating, potty training, adhering to simple commands (sit, stay, etc). At this time he was about 7/mths old. My husband, Dan researched for trainers and located Terra with Animal Minds. Terra made an in-house visit once a week, followed by taking him to a social class. In that small amount of time, JoJo had his neuter surgery so a few weeks had passed. We realized a weekly visit was not enough for him as well as the weekly social training (his anxieties were high). My husband discussed with Terra about her taking JoJo for 30/days to train him 24/7 which included socializing him to environments. She continued to send us video clips (as well as videos of her training sessions) during JoJo's absence from our home. It was difficult to leave the little guy with her for 30/days. Terra brought JoJo back after 2/weeks to our house for a visit to see how he would react. I was pretty impressed (especially with the additional two kittens we had gotten when we had JoJo). We proceeded to attend the social training session and I saw much improvement with JoJo. He wasn't skittish, he was focused and he wanted to impress! After the 30/days expired, Terra brought JoJo home and assisted my husband with transitioning him back to us and spent several hours with him. She included well written documentation on what he learned and where he was in his training and what we needed to continue to do. When I arrived home, I was immediately impressed with JoJo! He listens to our commands and when we take him out, he isn't bothered by noises, people, other animals, etc. I totally recommend anyone with issues to contact Terra and discuss them with her. I reached out to Animal Minds for my 11 month old 95 lb lab after I lost my 10 year old lab who we rescued. My older lab had a problem with bolting. We always watched him and had him under control, but the puppy and the older lab were playing and my older lab slipped his collar. He took off and got hit by a car. Susan is a miracle worker. We have a german wirehaired pointer/ australian shepherd who is aggressive/reactive to strangers, especially men. It was very difficult for us to take him places where men might be approaching us as he would lunge at them or bark like crazy even in the car. We had previously sent our dog to Susan for 6 weeks when he was a puppy--and she did a lot of great work with him then. But when we had him back, his bad habits got even worse to the point where he bit more than one person. So, now at the age for 3, we sent him back to Susan for more board&train. I never thought my Chi-Jack Russell rescue pup would ever be trained to listen to commands. Boy, was I wrong. Because of Terra at Animal Minds. Our rescue 5 year old German Shepherd had dog aggression and couldn't even be taken out of the house, front yard or back, nor go for a ride. She began eliminating in the house after a few months, and had us wondering what possible future such a dog might end up with. I love Susan! I have a frenchie who has had a tough past and isn't very trusting of new people. I knew when I got the update he was sleeping I could trust her. I paid Animal Minds $600 for 4 private 1 1/2 hour training sessions with my two 5 month old German Shepherd puppies. I liked Terra as a person, but the training that she pushed is highly corrective, using prong collars and a lot of restraint. I could see this approach was making my puppies fearful and more aggressive, so I said I wanted to use a positive training approach instead of highly corrective. Our last session we met at the park and after choking my dog by having her hang up from her collar when an off leash dog that was friendly came near and the owner was not able to recall it. She said to me that we are not a good fit to work together and left. I fully agreed with her, so I did not ask for a partial refund because I did not want to continue either and would rather just eat the cost as a learning experience. But I can't help feeling ripped off from this whole experience. read more

Terra is outstanding! She was amazing with Magnus! she came to our house for his training, which was much better than what we tried before. She taught both our big boy and us very useful skills that we will continue that are invaluable to us as a family. Susan, you are stating a lie, which does not surprise me. You were not there and I most definitely removed Myles from Terra as a result of seeing photograph of shock collar on him while he was on leash, and Terra knows this. I did not pay $2600 because I didn't have time to have my dog trained. That does not even make sense. Think about it. I too have a witness whom is well aware of what occurred and the reason being my being infuriated that the shock collar was on my puppy when he was leashed. I agreed if absolutely necessary for off leash recall too the use of what you describe as e collar, -Shock Collar, and was really hesitant. You feel good too rip off your client by keeping 2600 for 6 days, you have no ethics or scruples. Do you think you would like it if the situation were reversed and you came to me for services and you state that I am not rendering services satisfactorily and I just kept your 2600 dollars. You don't guarantee your services ? You do bad business. You ripped me off and are trying to hide behind your one sided contract to justify keeping 2600 dollars for 4 of six days, either way you ripped me off.
