Horrible communication, over charged more than the dealership! Did not do a tune up ,didn't even change the cabin filter or the air filter or rotate my tires I could go on. These guys, I can't say enough for their kindness and honest work. We purchased our first sprinter van which we converted into a camper and are quickly realizing that it's just as needy as everyone told us it would be. After traveling through New Mexico for a few weeks we had a check engine light come on which ended up being a code that needed to be addressed immediately. We called a number of shops to try to see if anyone could squeeze us in. Not only are most shops not able to work on Sprinters, the ones that can couldn't take us for a few weeks. After a recommendation from a friend we called Animas and they were able to take us in that day. As soon as we met the guys at the shop we knew we were in the right place for a big job. They even let us see the van while she was in surgery. After this repair we've hit a few more bumps and Dana is always available to help us. He is so knowledgeable and helpful in assisting us find reputable shops along our path. We're now in Washington State and he's still helping us problem solve issues. We were a bit nervous sending our son to college with a car, not knowing anyone in the area to get repair advice from. We found Dana and the team and could not be happier... responsive, knowledgeable, and priced properly (Audi's are never inexpensive to work on, but we've had enough of them to know when we're being dealt with squarely). Not only will we make sure his services occur while he's at school, this is a great excuse for us to get to Durango to see him, when our car needs service!! read more

The good things were: they staff was friendly and they eventually fixed the car and got it back on the road again. Clearly, that's important when one has a broken car. The bad things were: they had to order a part, and I know that can take awhile, but it took them over 3 weeks to fix the car; they are very poor communicators (they routinely don't answer their phone and they don't return voicemails, and then they didn't call back even when they said they would); They quoted us a price in the 300's to fix the car but then charged us in excess of double that because the car "needed an additional part" + 3 more hours of additional labor - neither of which were in original quote. I was NOT impressed. When a businessperson gives a quote, he/she should stand by it. So even though they fixed the car, they won't ever get my business again. read more

These guys are honest. For me that's the most important factor when deciding who fixes my cars and trucks. I brought my Ford truck in for new brakes. The dealership told me it needed new calipers when I knew it didn't. Animas fixed the brakes and the price seemed right. My only issue is I wish I would have used ceramic pads to keep the dark brake dust away from my rims. They did a good job on time with a decent price. read more

Had a headlight restoration and engine inspection done some time ago. Quality of work was very poor, headlights were still cloudy looking after paying over $200 for what I thought was a professional job. Animas Imports also never replaced the plastic undercarriage guard on my car. Some time later I decided to restore the headlights myself with a DIY kit and was able to get them crystal clear. I then realized i payed all that money for a lazy service and so I contacted Dana the desk guy there and requested a refund, to which he said he would get back to me about. 6 visits to his office and 20 calls later, still no word from him. It's been over a month now since he said he would contact me back. He is never in his office during the listed business hours, he doesn't answer calls, he doesn't keep his word, i've been more in contact with his own service dept. employees than him. Frankly I did not want to write this review but I've been completely taken advantage of by this business and I think other people should be aware so that it doesn't happen to them. read more

I am SO GRATEFUL for this shop. We are moving out of town today and when we went to get our uhaul, our towing lights didn't work... After calling around town, animas automotive was able to get us in immediately when no other shop could, and they fixed the problem within 45 minutes. On top of it all, they fixed things without having to complete replace the wiring harness, which saved us a lot of money. Thanks for making our move go a little easier! read more

Horrible experience at this place. They did the wrong service (repeated a 55,000K service I had already done instead of doing minor 65,000 service), did not inform me of prices before they did work, ordered parts, as I had requested. I wish Zero Stars was an option! The first time I brought my car in to Animas they told me that I had a power steering leak. Not having the money to fix the leak I immediately purchased the correct fluid online and topped it off before going on a short road trip. To be certain that I didn't run out of fluid on the trip I stopped every hundred miles and checked the levels. They NEVER changed once topped off, and now one year later they are still at the SAME level! This tells me there was no leak in the first place, this may have just been an attempt to take me for $600 the cost to fix said leak. I gave Animas the benefit of the doubt after this situation because they are the only certified Land Rover mechanic in town. I recently came in to have my 60k checkup, their technicians no longer found a leak...so miraculously this leak has fixed itself? This time they said I needed new brake pads on my rear brakes. I was told that I could get a ride to the airport and my car would be dropped off when I arrived back at the airport. I was quoted $590 (including all parts, and services, and parts were to be from Land Rover directly). I called the Land Rover dealer in Santa Fe to ensure that I was not being ripped off. I quickly found out that I was paying twice as much by going with Animas (Santa Fe LR quoted $250-300), but since they were local, and I thought they were offering such an amazing service with the airport ride/car delivery, I decided to pay the extra money. Fast forward to the night I arrive back at the airport at midnight....I'm stranded at the airport with no car. My car was not delivered to the airport as promised, and we are in a small town, so I was out in the country at midnight locked out of the airport by myself. I had to look into options of getting home including renting a car or taking a taxi. Since they were both closed I had to have someone drive an hour to come and pick me up! I called them the next morning, and spoke to a gentleman who didn't even apologize! I was now told that I owe $781, which is well over the original estimate. This was because I had two services. We only spoke about one service, my brake pads, initially. The gentleman tells me that I had been informed about my breaks being "flushed." I can confirm 100% that I was never told anything about this. He also told me that he quoted me at $781 originally. This is not accurate, and NEVER happened. He then said that he recorded the conversation. When I asked to hear the conversation he quickly said that he didn't actually record it, but wrote everything down including the time and date. I said fine, tell me the time and date, I have my phone records. He of course could not give me a time or date, as I suspect there wasn't any record. We had a verbal contract for the quote of $590, which included a ride to the airport and my car delivered back to me at the airport. They did not provide the full service that was promised, and then continued to hold my car ransom, forcing me to take a taxi out to pick it up when it was supposed to be delivered. What would have been a $250 repair in Santa Fe has now turned into over $1000 when including taxi rides. Once I arrived to get my car I was forced to wait over 45 minutes while they waited for the owner to talk to me. All I wanted was my car, and was willing to pay the extreme charges just so I could be done with them! I finally was able to get my car when I said I was going to call the police. When I paid they said they had to take a copy of my driver's license which I tried to refuse, as I'm not even sure that's legal...they weren't going to give me my car back, so I had no other choice. When I finally paid the bill had now somehow changed to $720 with no explanation. Since the bill had decreased, I decided not to complain! They treated me with disrespect and acted like everything was miscommunication on my end. I am a very organized person, and highly educated, so I didn't really appreciate them acting as if I was the problem. I will avoid this place like the plague in the future, and believe it is worth the 2-3 hour drive to go somewhere else. read more

Not having a dealership for my make of car in town and the prospect of having to drive to Alb. for "minor" service, I contacted Animas Automotive to see if they could take care of my car. From the first phone call, they were polite, responsive and very honest. I was given an accurate quote over the phone, but also was told that until they "got under the hood" so to speak, that was just a quote. I was incredibly and pleasantly surprised that my final bill was less than my quote, not to mention about 1/2 of what I paid for the car's 10K service at the dealer. They also offered me a ride, although I already had one, it is nice to know for next time. Would highly recommend! read more

They towed our truck in and fit us in between the other customers they had scheduled that day. They were friendly and conscientious in their dealings with us. My friends and I were driving to Moab, UT from Santa Fe. My 2007 Jetta's engine light came on in the middle of nowhere. We stopped at a local gas station and they told us we would get the most help in Durango and we did! I randomly found Animas Automotive on a google search and I am glad I did because they were very helpful. We told them we were just driving through, so they said they were getting the part I needed the next day, so squeezed us in the next day. We had to stay one night and they were very helpful in recommending where to stay and what to do while we were in Durango for the evening. Love this place! The staff, especially Dana is so helpful. I know when I take my car here it gets quality attention. They go above and beyond to provide not only good work but excellent customer service. Good down to earth people here! You don't see places like this much these days. I had an incident where I took my car in for oil change and transmission flush at a specialized place before taking it to these guys for a separate issue. I had left the receipt on the passengers side seat. One of the mechanics noticed it and brought it to my attention that none of the things that I was charged for had been done. Dana called the manager at the previous place I had it serviced and made the manager come down to his shop. He went over with him all the areas that my receipt said were serviced but weren't. The manager apologized profusely and was going to give me a free service. I declined but asked him to pay Animas Automotive to do the job that was supposed to have been done. The Old Bait and Switch! We were quoted $800 for work done on our car. But then once they had the car they told us it would be $1600 because they ordered the wrong kit. Dana told us if we wanted the car put back together we were going to have to pay. We defiantly got strong armed. Instead of just being honest about how they ordered the wrong parts for our car and let us pay the price they quoted us; they will loose our business. But Dana didn't seem to care. Myself and two other friends were on a road trip from Toronto, Ontario to California when we suddenly experienced some car troubles in Durango, Colorado. We had an issue with our thermostat, which was causing our car to have an overheating problem. We originally looked online for a shop in Durango that serviced Audi vehicles and stumbled upon a shop called Durango Small Cars. We went to that shop and were pretty disappointed with the service that we received as they were very quick to turn us away. After this disappointing encounter, we got extremely lucky to have a family friend who recommended that we try Animas Automotive. Upon arriving at Animas, we were greeted with a friendly smile and professional service from Dana. He took our car in immediately knowing our situation and not only fixed our thermostat but also went above and beyond by repairing other issues in our car while he had the car apart. Dana and his crew were able to get us on the road within 2 days of us bringing him the car, allowing us to continue on our road trip! These guys were very helpful and honest on my way through Durango. My 2012 Jetta TDI needed headlight work. They analyzed it quickly and had the parts needed. They also looked at another problem and explained it very logically. It could wait for warmer weather and they were fine with that. You do get what you pay for. I recently had an alignment done on my VW Eurovan by one of those in-and-out tire shops that do alignments. They said they didn't have the right tool to adjust the Camber. (turns out Animas Automotive did not have the wrench either - in the end, they used something else - hopefully it did not damage the bolt) They charged me a partial rate. I soon learned that this particular vehicle is finicky and clearly needs care by an experienced VW mechanic. I was then informed by a family mechanic that when I do get the Camber aligned, the other items will need re-aligning...uuuggh . So I sought out a shop that claims to specialize in European vehicles - specifically VW - and was prepared to pay the cost for a full and proper alignment. Animas Automotive assured me that they have worked on Eurovans and could take care of it. I reminded them of the camber issue when I made the appt and again when I showed up at 8 am. An hour later, the mechanic (who was great by the way) said I was ready to go but that the camber was not adjustable. Uuuugh. So I explained, directly to the mechanic this time, that, yes it is, it needs a specific type of wrench that is apparently not that common in shops. The two guys kind looked at each other, like ok lady - I don't think so but.... Only then did they actually look up the specifications. Three hours later (for a total of four hours), they finally figured it out and wanted to charge labor for the first hour, even though they simply re-aligned the toe. I said that I would not pay for the first hour, as they did not do what I asked them to do: align the camber. They acted as if they were doing me a favor by knocking off that hour. They repeatedly tried to blame it on the vehicle and made a variety of other excuses. Then it took them 40+ minutes just to get me an invoice. In the end, I paid over $200 and the toe and the caster are more out of alignment then they were when I brought it in. Not to mention four hours of my time and 2 hours driving time. They new I was coming in from out of town. Why is integrity such an absent quality in business anymore? I would of happily paid whatever the cost if they had just admitted that they messed up, they didn't know what they were doing, and they'd learn form it and make it right. Instead they nod and smile and don't really listen to the customer as they assume that we just don't know what we are talking about. So now I am in over $250 and I still have a misaligned vehicle. I will NEVER go back to Animas Automotive. read more
