I brought my vehicle in last month for an oil change, alignment, and new brakes after being recommended by a friend. They called to say the bolts under my car were sheering off from rust and all of them would need to be replaced along with my rotors and control arms with a starting estimate of $6k just to get the car functional, not replacing all the rotors. I had a weird feeling so I checked yelp. After reading previous reviews about the same issues, I had my car towed to another shop where they told me the bolts were completely fine and charged me only $2000 for the work I needed done (alignment, brake pads, the new rotors and control arms!) including replacing the bolts Built to Last sheared off. Additionally, BTL overtightened the bolt on my oil tank crushing the nut and causing the oil change I paid them for to leak out all over my driveway. I wanted to like this place since a friend had recommended but it just felt sketchy read more

We took our vehicle in for an alignment and were quoted $220 for the work. Later, we were informed that the eccentric bolts were stripped and had to be replaced before they could align it--$1470. We purchased this vehicle brand new in 2024 and no repairs had ever been done to it, so how did those bolts get stripped? The technician at Built to Last was the ONLY person to have ever tried to loosen them. We got two other estimates, from two other local repair shops, and they both came it at around $350 for the bolt replacements and the alignment, both. We believe that the tech at Built to Last stripped those bolts and the shop was asking us to pay for the repair--at a highly inflated price. I posted a review to their website and it has disappeared, so they refused to post it. I made the mistake of not reading the reviews for Built to Last before I took our vehicle in, but the only negative reviews are several years old, and they are VERY NEGATIVE, so I'm suspicious that this shop is deleting any current negative reviews. Do yourself a favor, find another shop. This shop is just the wrong mix of incompetent, predatory, and careless. I brought my vehicle in to replace the heater core, a job which cost me ~$2,100 and required removing the dashboard and steering column. I have never had any warning lights on my vehicle for the 5 years I have owned it. Upon picking it up after, the airbag and check engine lights were on, the internal air louvers were not functioning properly, and there were several deep gouges in the plastic panels around the dash. I brought it back after being told they would fix their mistakes for free, and they fixed the air louvers. The airbag light indicated a broken clock spring in the steering wheel, and they insisted that it was coincidence it just went bad. I pushed back but ultimately agreed to pay for the part in the interest of getting my car back fast. Their solution for the check engine light (fuel system codes) was to replace the battery. $376 later I picked up my vehicle again. Within hours of picking up my vehicle, the check engine light came back on and had several codes all related to the fuel system (I have a code reader fortunately). Later that day I got stranded at a gas station as the starter would crank but would not start the engine. I brought back the vehicle again, and they told me that I needed a new fuel pump. I paid a deposit to order a fuel pump ($350) and was quoted ~$1000 for the job. I voiced my concern that I thought the problem was somewhere in the dash/firewall that was disassembled, but they refused to offer any promise of a refund if the fuel pump repair was not the solution. I decided to pick up the vehicle and test a repair that my code scanner app suggested: a new fuel vapor purge valve. I bought one on amazon for $20 and easily swapped it out in minutes. It turns out this valve is located directly in front of the heater core connections inside the hood. The vehicle started right up and the check engine light turned off. I called back the shop and told them about the repair, asking for them to return the fuel pump they ordered. To my dismay, their response was that they would only refund $150 of the $350 because of the diagnostic fees from the last visit (an incorrect diagnosis for what that is worth). I asked to speak to the owner and was told he would call me back later (he didn't). Out of all the check engine code possible repairs, they suggested them in the order of easiest job and highest part markup. They consistently denied that they could be in any way related to the first heater core job, however the clock spring in the steering wheel and the vapor valve by the heater core connections seem to speak for themselves. All said and done, I paid ~$600 to fix issues from a botched heater core job and had to go without a vehicle for 2-3 days at a time on 4-5 separate occasions beyond the initial repair. The shop was unwilling to accept any blame for the damage to the vehicle or refund me for the repairs. read more

We had been trying to find someone do do an oil change on our Mercedes Diesel Sprinter RV and no Mercedes dealership could take us-they didn't have appointments available. Had brake trouble over the long holiday weekend. Built to Last quoted us $3,000 for new brakes and rotors, front and back, on our motorhome. Also claimed they couldn't do the work in one day, which would mean staying in a hotel. Another local shop confirmed our suspicion that we were being gouged and overcharged and helped us find an alternative when they were not able to fit us in this week. Went down to Farmington, NM to Gene's Frame and Alignment who charged us $1100. He said that we did NOT need the back rotors and the back pads were borderline for needing to be changed. He also spotted a broken stabilizer bracket and was able to fix that quickly on the spot at the same time. All completed in about 6 hours. read more

As always they took care of my Jeep. Cooling fan and motor went and the radiator cap needed replacing after driving it there on a Friday afternoon with the radiator boiling!!! They looked at it right away and ordered the parts. I had the car back the next day. Always friendly service and a fair price. Avoid this business. They are rude and unreliable! We dropped our truck off for a scheduled appointment on MONDAY and by FRIDAY they still had not even looked at or diagnosed it. The receptionist (Vicky) was RUDE and has no business being in customer service. Her excuse for this was " we're trying to work it in. We're busy." I reminded her we made an appointment, so they should not have to "work us in" and tgat they've had it 5 days. We ended up picking up the truck and took it to a shop that was friendly, courtesy and prompt. I will never use them or recommend them to anyone. This is a poor way to conduct business in a small town. Their website is full of lies on how they care for customers, so can you really trust them with your vehicle, basedon their lies to value customers?? I think not. I wish there was a way to give this shop a less than one star rating. First of all, we called Monday a week ago to make an appt for one of our trucks to get a DOT inspection. They said to bring truck in on Thursday at 8:30. I had to take off work to follow my husband there to drop off the truck. They had no appt booked and basically told us we were liars. Should have walked out the door then, but our time was already invested. The receptionist finally called us Friday afternoon, that the truck had lights out and couldn't be fixed till Monday. After no word on Monday, we drove to the shop and argued with them till a mechanic finally started working on the truck. We went Tuesday to finally pick up the truck for a grand total of $650, that they said was done. Upon our own inspection; the DOT inspection sticker has 2017 sticker (job was done Aug2018), the tachometer is now broken and the dash board is no longer bolted down due to broken screws. We now have to take the truck to another shop to fix what they broke, get a true DOT sticker and see what else is broke. This truck will have been out of work for a week now, and prob another week. read more

These guys are awesome and extremely honest. I live in Denver and feel like I always get worked over every time I go to a mechanic. When we were in Durango, our truck broke down and we took it to Built to Last. Lu answered the phone and automatically proved to me she was more knowledgeable than most of the mechanics I've met, and she works in the office! They looked at our truck when they said they would, had the part replaced by the exact time they initially told me, and the price was exactly what I was told the first time. HERE'S THE KICKER: it wasn't the right part, truck didn't get fixed. We had to drive back to Denver and ended up taking it to a total of 4 places over 3 weeks before anyone could figure it out. It ended up being the craziest most random thing that I couldn't of expected anyone to find until they tore the truck apart piece by piece. When I explained the situation to Lu and her team, they refunded me! They put labor into this truck, and spent money on the part they put in, but still refunded me because they didn't fix what was broken (because it was total a needle in a haystack to find). I brought my vehicle to Built to Last to have an alternator replaced. I was out of town and at the mercy of the shop. I understand how shops jokingly have "out of town" fees or "need it now" fees, but I straight up got robbed from Built to Last! A week after install, the replaced alternator failed again. It was then I learned they have ZERO integrity and professionalism when it comes to honoring their warranty. I was back in my home town and all I asked from them was to honor their warranty and cover the part only. I was willing to pay the labor (again) because I took it to a shop more reliable and trustworthy and I didn't want to get them involved. Built to Last told me to take it to O'reilly and deal with them. I'm fine with that, I just want retribution for the over $600 I spent for this part that lasted less than a week. It was then I discovered O'reilly would only give me $300 back. I paid Built to Last $600 for that part!!! 100% Mark up of retail??? Ridiculous!! The professional way to handle that would have been to send me a check for the 100% mark up on the part. They got paid for the labor, but their greedy sticky fingers needed more. I would never recommend anyone take their vehicle there. They buy poor quality aftermarket parts from the lowest bidder and sell to you at the highest Factory prices! I now have a factory installed alternator which runs great. Not to my surprise, my total charge for the OEM alternator part and labor was Half the cost of Built to Last's marked up part alone.
