When we walked in, there was a dry erase board that had every child's name for the day written on it, welcoming them. I thought it was so nice that someone would take the time to do that every day. The waiting room has a very relaxing atmosphere even with the video games. When we were called to go back, I was amazed at how beautiful the office is. There are floor to ceiling windows overlooking pretty trees, and an aquarium which my son loved. They were so sweet and patient with him. There are tv's in the ceiling which are helpful for keeping kids laid back. They let him sit up and talk whenever he wanted to. I was embarrassed when they told me he had a few cavities, but they assured me that it was perfectly normal and I shouldn't feel guilty. At the end, each kid gets to pick out a little toy to take home. So I paid $150 at the time of service. But the office still put the visit through insurance, which paid $183. Although this may have been a simple mistake, I've been double billed enough time by other medical providers to wonder if this is becoming a widespread practice. Anyway, when I called A + and asked them to reverse the insurance charge, they said they could not. Instead. They refunded me, but only $110. Even though the insurance company paid MORE than I was asked to pay, A + refused to fully refund the amount, saying I had to pay $40 for fluoride. I am incensed.

I explained that I had not been told at the prior appointment that the sealant was not covered by insurance. Because the receptionist was new, another staff member stepped in to assist. I was initially told that insurance companies sometimes list services as covered on their websites when they are not. I was then told the $51 was part of my deductible and that my insurance only covered 80% of the sealant. After receiving multiple explanations, I requested to review the actual paperwork to verify the information being provided. Once the paperwork was printed and reviewed, I was informed that the previous information was incorrect. It was clarified that the office is only permitted to bill my insurance a certain contracted amount, and the sealant was, in fact, covered. Had I not asked to see the documentation, I would have paid a balance that my insurance had already covered. Additionally, I never received a copy of the paperwork I requested. I strongly encourage parents and patients to review their billing statements carefully and request documentation when there are discrepancies. Transparency and accuracy in billing are essential, and patients should not have to advocate this hard to ensure they are being charged correctly.
