Let me start off by saying this, the food/atmosphere of this quaint little tavern are extraordinary! However, their service leaves much to be desired. I am in the restaurant business, so I am very forgiving of a lot of things while dining out. I know how many things can go wrong, and often, it's not a reflection of the server or even the restaurant. Sometimes things just happen. Especially on a busy Friday night. That being said, the one thing I absolutely cannot forgive is rudeness and/or laziness. The gentleman who greeted us as well as the one who waited on us were both less than friendly. Not a single smile. Ok, no big deal. But then we sat at our table and waited to have our drink order taken. And waited. And waited some more. This would have been fine, had I seen that it was simply because the server was in the weeds. But no, he just chose to take the drink order of the table next to ours first. Mind you, they were seated after us. They were also a larger party, so I'm sure the server saw $$$. This is unacceptable. We were seated first, we should have been served first. This continued throughout the meal. We waited and waited and the only times we were able to order food or another round of drinks was when we flagged the server down. The unfortunate thing for the server is this: While our bill was only $110, it would have been higher had he just taken a minute here or there to offer us more drinks, or the dinner specials, (which he didn't even mention), or dessert. Or anything at all! But regardless, he took his tip from my standard 30%+ down to a measly 18%. I'm going to give this place one more try, and that will be my deciding factor. They will either go down to 3 stars or jump up to 5, depending on how my second experience goes. read more

Okay. I've been here twice. The first time was last summer, there was no wait, but the service was memorably very SLOW... I don't mind waiting for food, but water? Food, however, was amazing. Last Thursday I wanted to go out for a quiet drink around seven at night. When we got there, it was of course, crowded but we decided to sit at the rail and wait for a spot to open up at the bar. I ordered a cocktail named the Raven, the bartender started pouring a draft beer by the same name. When I told him I meant the cocktail not the beer, he shrugged and annoyingly started to make the drink. When you have two drinks named the same thing, you should know to ask which one the person meant. The cocktail, by the way, was absolutely disgusting, and I can't imagine why anyone would like it. It tasted like grape cold medicine. After a few minutes a couple left, and we quickly claimed their spot. Upon sitting down the bartender asked if we would be eating, when we said no, he told us we could not sit at the BAR without EATING. Flabbergasted that I couldn't just drink at the bar, I quickly finished the rest of my drink and left angry. Annabel's is great, but they could be absolutely fabulous if they would just expand! It's a big problem when you are turning customers away at a TAVERN because you need room for people to eat. I blame the slow service on the fact it appeared the wait staff was severely understaffed, and it seems reasonable to think this is because the restaurant is so tiny they can't have that many. They could make everyone happier if there was a little more room to breathe. read more

I love when I go somewhere with no expectations, hype or information. It's a true discovery. That was the case with Annabel Lee Tavern. I was truly charmed by this place. We went there for happy hour. The crowd was fairly small, and tame but still very sociable and down-to-earth. The tavern was cozy, clean and smelled fresh! A pleasant surprise for the tavern on the corner. The walls are stained with wine colored paints, and trimmed with verses from Edgar Allen Poe's last complete poem - Annabel Lee. A little cryptic? Eh - surprisingly, not really. I sipped on the tasty Raven Lager (very suitable for Baltimore) as I noted the fake raven hovering over a framed sketch of Edgar Allen Poe. As the sun set, the restaurant only became more cozy...almost romantic with candles lit at every table and on the bar. The daily specials were hand written, xeroxed and placed on each table. Up- tempo music from the 1920s played in the background as we ate our baked brie, deliciously, crispy and flavorful nachos and crab dip flat bread pizza. Good stuff I tell you ... and not too pricey either! They also had a some limited seating outside on the corner...not so cozy out there, but still a nice option. read more

When I first heard the name Annabel lee tavern I immediately thought this place was gonna be racist. I was expecting someone to call me China boy or throw a live catfish at my grandmother but no, they aren't racist at all. I didn't see any full frontal male nudity, and the staff was not only knowledgeable and friendly but look like they'd be decent at foosball, but no spins allowed this isn't communist Russia. The food made me forget how heartbreaking it was to watch my father leave drive away after that baseball game when I was seven, he said we'd go for ice cream but no. No ice cream for the side kid. The ambiance reminds me of forest gumps mamas house, you remember when forest was dancing with the leg braces on and talking about a man with a guitar. I think that guy was Elvis Presley. What a good story and Tom hanks is a wonderful actor, I hope all the allegations aren't true but the move to grease was awfully suspicious. Green miles another good one. I am excited that my first dining experience since I've returned to Baltimore was at Annabel lee tavern. Not only was my company/brunch date exquisite, but so was the staff and meal. Amy the bartender invited us in as if we had been coming there for years and Kurt was a blast to talk to. I enjoyed a Tuna Panini and my date enjoyed their Turkey sliders. Drinks were strong and environment clean and simple. I have to say 5 stars because feeling as welcome as I did and enjoying laughs with down to earth people blows away a trip to some fancy, uptight and expensive place others would consider 5stars. We visited Annabel Lees on a Saturday night in the beginning of June. We are from Syracuse and had heard about the place from reviews on Yelp, and were not disappointed. The food was excellent, the drinks great, and the ambiance was wonderful. I had one of the specials - fried chicken with mashed potatoes- it was excellent! My wife had a great berry and greens salad. We sat at the bar (reservations are pretty much a must on weekends if you don't want to sit at the bar) and the bartender and staff were very friendly and helpful. Sadly, it will be a while before we get back to Baltimore- but when we do, Annabel Lees is going to be a must go to. read more

This restaurant is incredible. I started with a glass of white French wine (Tariquet), which was good. Then they had a marsala mushroom soup and a salad of crab and spinach. The soup was delicious, and the salad was okay (not great but not bad). My friend got all the specials: soup du jour (Delaware corn chowder), potstickers of lemongrass chicken, and Raven beer. The chowder and potstickers were fantastic, and the Raven beer was pretty easy to drink. The Edgar Allen Poe Pate was a pleasant way to end the meal. This place sucks!!!! Went with a date, after the douche seating us had a problem seating us a bar table (b/c it had 4 seats) the food took forever and was cold when it came out! The fries seemed to be from the day before. This place is full of shit and it sucks, I was there on a tuesday and I would love to see how bad it sucks on a weekend. I will never go back. I can't understand why the 7 people working there couldn't handle the business (yes, I counted while waiting for my food). Fuck this dump! Not even worth shitting on their doorstep. Thirsty, and you want to grab a drink? I recommend Annabel Lee Tavern for you. This place has a classical mood and vibe. The decors on the wall will make you feel like you're in a tavern. They have a fun beer collection, and their blended drinks are also very good. It's super tasty with the Annapolis sandwich, and the duck fat fries are simply fantastic. I also appreciate that they still had dinner available outside the door. I was pretty disappointed we waited an hour just for the sprouts and fries. Delicious comfort food and a cozy atmosphere. The wait staff forgot something in our order so dessert was on them! If you like mac n'cheese or rather, cheese with some macaroni than this is the place. I had a chicken salad sandwich with sweet potato fries. 3 Things Stood Out to Me: 1. Dark Area - at first comes off as spooky but ends up being splendid 2. The Poe Theme - really sold well. The entire decoration and atmosphere is based on Edgar Allen Poe and his rich history and that translate to the richness in the food. Which leads to my next point... 3. If you can imagine a Tavern where a group of 6 well-mannered 30 year olds can walk in, order drinks and then proceed to be denied a booth when the place is mostly empty on the basis of not ordering food, then congratulations bc you just described Annabelle Lee Tavern. I had a lot of expectations for this restaurant and I am beyond pleased to say that I left completely blown away. The service was amazing. Everyone was friendly and accommodating. The chicken on both their sandwiches was a thin little breast that didn't fit into the bread. The inside of the tavern is Edgar Allen Poe overload but not in a bad way. There's a server who's been a little surly since I dummy love that but overall, service is fine, cocktails are curated well (and they're happy to suggest something you'd like or make something up, which I love) and it's cozy and a good visit. It's a gem of a bar in the Federal Hill area that is more chill than what you find on Cross Street. Basically, it's a fun, friendly, warm, and welcoming place to go and perhaps even meet some new friends! The jam that came for my English Muffin was delicious and praise GOD they served butter that wasn't ice cold and unspreadable so yeah hella points for that. For the mimosas, we did the "buy the carafe and the bottle", with a carafe of cranberry juice and a bottle of Cava Prosecco. I loved that we were able to select WHICH bubbles we wanted and for two people it worked out very well price wise. The host (tall guy with a mohawk) and our server (Robyn) were absolutely fantastic. Personable and friendly and very attentive, very much able to answer any questions we had (THANK YOU ROBYN!!!). In short - this place is a gem and yall should go! Be mindful of the parking in the area, but dont let that stop you from a delicious meal in a lovely setting!!
