This is a SERVICE review: I recently visited Bygone in Baltimore for a friend's birthday celebration, and unfortunately, my experience was extremely disappointing--especially as a pregnant guest. First, I shall say that the restaurant is BEAUTIFUL and the skyline is breathtaking. Now, moving on to my experience: I looked over the menu hoping to find something I could safely eat, but very few options were appetizing to me. The crab dip sounded like something I could enjoy, so I asked the bar waiter if it could be prepared without the alcohol. I was told that it could not because it was premade. Once our party was seated, I ended up eating bread and butter. Later, my friend ordered the mac and cheese and encouraged me to try it. Because I'm pregnant, I asked our waitress a very specific question: Was the cheese used in the dish pasteurized? She said she would check with the kitchen. About 10 minutes passed, and I eventually had to flag her down. She came back and told me the cheese was "fresh." I explained that "fresh" was not what I had asked and repeated my question. She then said she would speak with the chef. While waiting, I was hungry and tasted some of the cheese sauce. The chef eventually came out with the waitress and told me that the cheese was safe. I clarified again: "I'm pregnant. I can only have pasteurized cheese. Is this cheese pasteurized?" His response was essentially, "No, but it's fresh and safe." At that point, I was honestly mortified and extremely uncomfortable. I had to excuse myself from the table because I was so upset. This was not about being difficult or expecting the restaurant to create an entirely new menu for me. I simply wanted a clear and accurate answer about whether something contained pasteurized cheese so I could make an informed decision about what to eat. My friend advocated for me and explained to management that the menu felt particularly limiting for someone who is pregnant. Benjamin, the manager, came over and spoke with us. He explained that many of the menu items contain some form of alcohol or non-pasteurized/aged cheese. He did try to accommodate me by offering a well-done salmon with salt and pepper and summer beans or red meat with no sauce, which I appreciate; however, it was quite late and those options did not feel appetizing for me. He also gave us his card and told me that I could come back in the future and order whatever I wanted since I did not make a choice. I do appreciate Benjamin taking the time to come speak with us and trying to find an alternative. However, the interaction with the waitress and chef left me feeling embarrassed and uncomfortable during what was supposed to be a celebration for my friend. For me, the biggest issue was not that the restaurant didn't have many options I could eat--it was that my very specific food-safety question was not answered clearly or accurately when I asked it multiple times. If a pregnant guest asks whether a cheese is pasteurized, "fresh" is not an answer to that question. I hope Bygone takes this as an opportunity to better educate staff on how to handle dietary and food-safety questions, particularly from pregnant guests. I would have been much more understanding if someone had simply said, "Let me verify that with the chef," and returned with a clear answer. I appreciate the manager's effort to make things right, but unfortunately, the experience still left an unpleasant impression on me. read more

The Bygone is definitely worth visiting for the views alone. Located on the 29th floor of the hotel, it offers stunning 365-degree views of Baltimore, with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating to take it all in. Whether you're stopping by for cocktails or a full meal, the setting is beautiful, and the bar has an impressive variety of drinks. The bar staff was also super friendly and welcoming. One thing I noticed was the DJ booth above the bar. Unfortunately, on a Saturday night around 9:00 p.m., there wasn't much of an atmosphere. The music was so low and monotone that you could barely hear it, and the entire space felt a bit stuffy. With views like these, I expected a much livelier vibe. Someone who visits regularly told us this place used to be much more energetic when there was a DJ, but lately it's become pretty quiet. I can definitely see the potential because the venue itself is gorgeous--it just seemed to be missing the energy that would make people want to stay. We ended up leaving after one drink because the atmosphere felt like a bit of a yawn. That said, I'd still recommend stopping in for a cocktail and to enjoy the incredible views. Our food was absolutely delicious (and expensive) and was brought out in a timely manner. The ambiance is sophisticated and trendy, with our booth having velvet back seating and beautiful low lights. Even though the restaurant is wonderfully styled, the vibe at night is a must see. The views from The Bygone are amazing! We stopped in here somewhat early on a Friday night. We had just come from happy hour so we opted for a few bar bites and dessert. We ordered the pineapple and peanut butter cake to share as well as the strawberry toast and meatballs. The guava on the pineapple cake was fresh. I wasn't a fan of the bar bites, the meatballs were lukewarm and the lack of flavor made them feel overpriced. I wouldn't order what had again. The bartenders were attentive and welcoming. It was my birthday so the bartender offered us a champagne toast to celebrate which was an amazing touch. What an experience. We were able to secure a walk-in table on a Saturday for the Mrs and our baby. They have a great view and the service was so thoughtful and caring. Came here for a a Birthday Party on Super Bowl Sunday. It was a great experience. It's located on the 29th floor of the 4 Seasons Hotel. You have the option for valet at $26 or self parking at 25. Since I didn't want to take that cold walk I did valet. The birthday celebration was held in an upstairs room. They were kind enough to bring a TV up so we could watch the game. The best thing about the Bygone was the views. Spectacular seeing the city lights at night. Only had drinks there. The Old Fashioned I had was a little on the sweet side. I also had a seasonal Checkerspot Brewery beer that was on draft. Service for the birthday celebration was impeccable. The bar tender was great. I wish I could remember his name. He was very knowledgeable and made some great drinks. They have a huge selection of spirits so you can get just about any cocktail you can think of. We chose to dine here to celebrate our move to Baltimore. We came on a Monday night so it was not very busy. I love a quiet, romantic restaurant with a view, this fit the bill perfectly. The views of the Inner Harbor from our corner table were fabulous. The decor is chic and old school glam, I loved it. We opted for the tasting menu. Each plate was artistically presented and thoughtfully prepared. The chef even came out and explained one of the courses. I sincerely enjoy all of the effort and talent that goes into creating this type of feast. So why only three stars? The service and the timing of the courses. The service was odd (by committee) some courses explained, others not. There were huge stretches of time between a few of the plates. We were not offered extra bread during these times. When we requested a bit more, there was a definite eye roll vibe. Certain courses that I am positive were meant to be served hot were indeed not. We were checked on frequently during the first half of the meal, the second half we could not even get water refills. Finally, there was a palate cleanser that was a bit tricky to eat, and one of the waitresses came by and made a snarky comment. We have enjoyed many tasting menus. I was not a fan of this brunch. The table we were sat at was horrible. If you view my video we were sat very close to another table in a very narrow walkway. Other patrons were brushing against our table where our food was at. Eventually we couldn't even eat the food it was just too many people over top of our food and touching the table. The table wasn't even large enough for our food and drinks. We had to put our drinks on a ledge behind us. After asking for a different table numerous times we were eventually told that we could just enjoy the rest of our brunch time on the balcony. Which isn't anything special because anyone can do that after brunch. Also I had reservations. My party and I were in the waiting area and guests with reservations after us were seated first. If anything it improved (they didn't have caviar back in 2022). We were seated by the hostess at a high top table in the bar area. It was our anniversary and we had just arrived downtown and decided to go to The Bygone as we had heard good things. We sat at the table for 20 minutes, every server walked by without making eye contact. It almost seemed like the manager and servers walking around were purposely avoiding us, we clearly had been sitting there for a while with nobody coming over. I went to the hostess and asked if we could see a server as we had been sitting for 30 minutes now, she said ok. We wanted another 10 minutes, I counted 5 servers walking around and nobody would come over to our table. I have never been anywhere that made me feel so unwelcome. Terrible service to say the least. I had heard a lot of mixed reviews about this place, so I decided to check it out for myself on my birthday. First off, while reservations aren't required, I highly recommend making one to ensure you get a table. They do require a credit card on file and have a 72-hour cancellation policy, which is something to keep in mind. Our reservation was at 7:00 PM. When we arrived, we found out valet service was no longer available, so we had to park in the garage, which cost $19. After walking through the hotel, we checked in and were directed to the elevators. Once upstairs, you have to check in again at the host stand, and your entire party must be present before they seat you. My husband was still parking, so we had to wait. We were eventually seated at a small table near the window, which I had requested. They gave our original table away. The concierge stated the other table was not in a good spot. Shortly after being seated, our server accidentally spilled water all over the table and walked away without an apology. Thankfully, a staff member from the concierge team came over, apologized sincerely, and offered us a complimentary shrimp cocktail, which was actually quite good. Our server was otherwise friendly and attentive. We ordered the mac and cheese, crab cake, crab dip, chicken breast, and the "Daisy" cocktail. For my birthday, they brought out a complimentary vanilla sundae -- a nice gesture, though it wasn't particularly Overall, I'd say the experience was just okay. I'm not sure what they put in the omelette, but it was the absolute BEST omelette I've ever had. The Bygone is in the top floor of the Four Seasons Hotel in Baltimore. We went on a Sunday for brunch to celebrate birthdays--we couldn't have picked a better place. Dave, our customer service rep, said they plan to add more food options to the bullet... can you say caviar. I definitely will patronize this restaurant again, soon! Who doesn't like being treated to dinner and especially one that I consider the best Baltimore has to offer, so of course, I was ALLLL IN!! :) After eating our appetizers and engaged in conversation, we didn't notice that time had gone by without our entrees arriving. Well, our super attentive server did and she apologized and said, desserts were on the house. We thought that was very nice of her, but again, we weren't starving because we did have a little something in our stomachs..LOL! Without noticing, the sun had set and wow, still no entrees. We didn't bring it to their attention, but our amazing server directly told us, entrees will also be on The Bygone because of the unusual issues in the kitchen. The food came out shortly after and the lamb chops and lump crab cakes were delicious. What a classy gesture and amazing customer service. Your whole meal can be ruined by the entire experience. The Bygone is nothing short of excellence. It was fine dining at its best. My view was beautiful, we were by the window and were able to see the sun set. I had the best view in front of me but the skyline was everything! Romantic for sure! Let's get into the FOOD: Shrimp Cocktail- the best I've had in a while! Rich in flavor and exceeded all expectations! Crispy Oysters- To DIE for! Literally talked about them hours later. (I need more of these.) Crabcake- Yummy!!!! Curry spiced Rack of Lamb- Flavored to perfection! Mac and cheese was delicious! Asparagus was good. I had the pleasure of taking my client and peer to this establishment last Tuesday night. KJ, our server, was absolutely phenomenal. He was attentive, he was kind, he gave amazing recommendations, and he took care of us. He even took our picture on the balcony. We had the seafood tower and it was so fresh, so perfect. As you enter The Four Seasons, you are escorted to the rooftop, The Bygone. The elevator opens up to panoramic view of the Harbor and lively nightlife. Our reservation was for cocktails, only, so we were escorted to a cocktail table across from the bar. There was a DJ for the evening, it wad the perfect mixture of people watching and provided entertainment. My date and I ordered old fashions, which were perfectly made. So much so, I was quite tipsy by my 2nd. All in all, The Bygone is the perfect atmosphere for a late night elevated experience. I booked a reservation for the Bygone for Mother's Day bc, from what I could see, and had heard, was that the ambiance was incredible. You enter through the Four Seasons hotel, where you're instantly greeted by doormen & can even get Valet if you'd like. There is a garage really close by as well, so pick your preference. Upon entry, there is a hostess on the bottom floor that guides you to the elevator specifically designated for the Bygone's guests, which was a really nice touch. The restaurant is on the 29th floor of the hotel & this elevator only goes there. Once you enter, you instantly feel the vibe of a wonderfully put together restaurant with amazing views. There's a lounge area, where some of the patrons are a bit more dressed down, and the restaurant side, which is a little quieter. Both are great, however, I did book a table for the restaurant side, but was asked if I'd be willing to take a table in the lounge area, which I was happy to do, but I will admit, we felt a bit overdressed on this side of the restaurant. That said, it was still a great experience. We ordered the MD Crab dip as an appetizer, and the Curry Spiced Rack of Lamb, and New York Au Poivre with sides of Mac & Cheese & purée de pomme de terre, and everything was excellent. If I could do it all again, the only thing that I would've changed was my steak - I would've gotten it medium rare, but otherwise, dinner was perfect. The Curry Rack of Lamb was super flavorful and cooked perfectly. For drinks, I had an Espresso Martini & the Mrs had a ginger infused drink.
