She originally booked the patio and, because it was going to be cold, the restaurant called her hours before we arrived to see if we'd like to sit indoors (oh yes, we did!). First, the ambiance is stunning. I would love to just transplant their decor to my home! Our server let us know they introduce a completely new menu each season but each week there is a dish removed and another added -- which I love because it'll be like a new restaurant when I come back! My friend and I both ordered cocktails - I got one off the menu with Brandy, coconut milk and cardamom. We split several dishes, starting with the potato gnocchi -- literally melts in your mouth. One of my favorite dishes of the night. They were so kind as to split and serve it on two separate plates. For our main, we split the hake - a white flaky fish that is very light - along with a side of Brussels sprouts and steak fries. The fries were seasoned with a spice blend that I didn't recognize but was both salty and sweet and I wish I could replicate at home. For dessert, we split the baked Alaska which had chocolate cake and peppermint ice cream. It was not an overwhelming peppermint flavor which I liked. In total, our bill came to ~$140 which I thought was reasonable considering we had a LOT of food and a great experience. First thought: WOW. From the moment you walk through the front door your eyes see a gorgeous bar. As you go up the stairs, you're engulfed into this classy and beautiful seating area. I was fully in love with the decor, furniture, carpet and even the plates! The colors are luscious! But now, the important part: Food and drinks. Had a lovely French 75 and my friend had the Lopez. :) Our waiter was delightful, very knowledgeable and extremely thoughtful to split our dishes: we tried the brussels sprouts with cranberries, melt in your mouth gnocchi, the buttery and flaky hake (fish), lovely seasoned steak fries and the baked Alaska! Good food, pretty restaurant, but TINY portions! Stopped in for restaurant week and had the $55 pp for three courses. Our table ordered a number of different things, but I got the beet salad, wild striped bass, and the red wine poached pear with almond cake. Beet salad was average, mostly beets and not many greens. Beets were prepared well. I tried to ask the waitress what the difference between the wild stripe bass and Chilean sea bass was, and she couldn't quite give me an answer--regardless, the broth accompanying the fish was delicious. Dessert was also lovely. Among the other selections, it seems the smoked salmon was the favorite appetizer among the group, followed by the steak entree, and the blood orange tart. The swordfish was also good, as was the chicken. Overall, good food, service, and ambiance. Portions were just waaaaaay too small--I'm not sure I'd come back without the restaurant week prices. The steak was easily the star of the show, but was so small we struggled to identify the filet on the plate. Everyone at the table agreed we needed to get a snack or second meal after dinner (and this was after we asked for a second helping of their complimentary bread, which was also amazing--unfortunately, it didn't help much with guaranteeing fullness). I don't typically give 5 stars, but this place might be my first. We first walk in, host greets us with a welcoming smile :) we sit at the bar, the bartender is 100/100 solid. He is friendly, funny, and knows his drinks. If I lived closer, I would become a regular at this bar. SOLID. A drink in, the rest of our party arrives and we get seated immediately. The space is BEAUTIFUL. Reminds me of manhattan or LA - much more modern, hip, compared to other places in DC that doesn't quite meet my standards in terms of ambiance and interior design. They have a cute little garden room in the back - we couldn't score one but highly recommend if you can request a seat there. They also have an outdoor patio area that has a similar vibe to this garden room, but it was chilly that day so we decided to stay indoors. Food. 100/100 for every dish we tried. We had the crudo (tuna appetizer), octopus, chicken, and sea bass. Personal favorite was the octopus and chicken. I never ever order chicken because no one ever cooks it right, but this chicken was the juiciest chicken I've ever tasted (other than Hawaii) - apparently chef Frank Ruta served 3 presidents in the white house and he is known for his chicken! Did I mention, their service is also out of this world! Super attentive, nice, and just made us feel at home. Glad we stopped by to try this place for dinner. The food holds up, though the ambiance is pretty offputting and the menu feels unreasonably expensive, even for DC. $13 for a draft port city optimal wit, are you serious?! It's definitely a stuffy environment, feels like a relic from a different time. That aside, the food is quite good. The steak was a standout dish, the sauce really brought each bite with the potatoes together, and the medium rare was perfect. The pasta was aldente and super flavorable, though small, heavy, and a bit rich. The crudo was super light and refreshing, a really nice starter, although again relatively small. Annabelle was literally one of the best food experiences i've ever had in DC. I went there a few months ago and was blown AWAY by what I was tasting. They had OSSABAW PORK PATE! This dish excited this little Georgia boy as Ossabaw Island is an island off the coast of Georgia KNOWN for their breed of pork. Everything we ate was intentional and tasted as though every microgreen was their on purpose. There were no frills... There was no fluff... What we tasted was delicious imaginative FOOD. The hostess was extremely pleasant as she walked me to my table. I arrived before my guest so I chatted up my waiter. Atmosphere was romantic with low lighting. Some music in the waaaay background. Got invited to a dinner reception. Very neat place, place is a little bit old might not be totally accessible. Food is very good but at that price I would be expecting something even better. Looks awesome, tastes fine but not something I would remember for a while. I tried the second time the next day in the common dining area and is a bit noisy. I didn't pick the wine so the wine we got is okay. For that kind of price, I am not sure it will attract me to visit again. But it is a nice restaurant and definitely need to try and I can see this is the place that some might like and some might not. read more

The restaurant is very nicely decorated, and there were a lot of interesting food choices. However, we would have much preferred our meal if the waiter had not tried to upsell every three minutes. When I asked what was good on the menu, he answered that they have a caviar service not listed. When I said that I was looking for help with what was on the menu, he blew off the question. When my wife said that she was going to have an app and main, he tried to push another course. Every five minutes there was an effort to sell another alcoholic drink. The food was fine, not great. Checking in for RW2020, Annabelle has set up a lovely outdoor experience to be CDC compliant. Along with staff who are mindful of your safety, the experience out on Florida Avenue is really a great way to enjoy some outstanding food and drink. The RW in-house menu (priced at $55 ea) sports some of the main menu faves - the Grilled Roseda Bavette Steak, King Salmon Studded with Ginger and Lemon and Crispy Rockfish and Octopus Duo were our choices. Paired with the Yellowfin Tuna Confit and Grilled Stuffed Squid was a special appetizer, six Marin Oysters. Mid-sized, fresh and very even made this a great start. For finishers, the Summer Berry Tart was the winner, followed closely in a tie by the Chocolate Mousse Bar and Peaches And Corn. Don't be shy, all three were wonderful. The drinks really set a tone and have to be a part of your meal (I know, wine is good, but these are GREAT). The Sazarec Rye was phenomenal and both the Red Medicine (one of the best drinks with Campari that I've ever had!) and the Blue Train with Creme de Violette were just wonderful. Our only regret, while we loved dining al fresco, was not to be able to enjoy the remodeled inside of the old Nora's. Next time! We visited Annabelle on opening night. The restaurant was quite full considering we had a 9:15 reservation. We were sat immediately and the server took our order right away. It's clear, there are some opening kinks that need to be worked out, which can be expected. It took about an hour for us to get our food, but they were more than apologetic and made sure we were well taken care of. We ordered the lamb with onions and artichokes. It was cooked perfectly and had great flavor. Surprisingly, the star of the show was the chicken with potatoes and spinach. Wow, it was incredibly flavorful and cooked perfectly. Every bite was juicy, even the white meat. We also had the house dessert which was also very tasty. I'm rating it 4/5 based on the long wait (though they took good care of us and made up for it), food alone would be 5/5. Highly recommend checking this place out. read more

I have been here twice. One meal was excellent. Tonight's ... was not. The decor and atmosphere are great. The waitstaff are also very, very good. This - along with the memory of my first meal here right after they opened earn three stars instead of two. Along with these other pros, I will credit them with having excellent bread and coffee. I enjoyed the lentil soup and the dessert sorbet was also good. However, none of our other appetizers or main dishes was remotely good. The pate for the appetizer was reminiscent of low end deli meats. Its presentation was also odd. It was basically a chunk of cold meat rather than a spread with bread. Many of the dishes were quite small and the vegetables were all kind of similar riffs on winter fare. The sea bass was fine. Steak was disappointing. This wouldn't have been good at a lower price point. As is, the bill is beyond unjustified. By far the worst item was the brussels sprouts. They were not caramelized or crispy at all and instead were soft and watery. The steak fries side was better but while the outer texture was a delightful crisp, inside was too dry and almost powdery. I had a great chicken here once. It's a beautiful place with kind staff. I root for this place. I wanted to like it more. It could be - and once was - a great neighborhood restaurant. Uncertain what to expect based on some reviews we had a very good dinner. I never would have guessed how spacious it was seeing it from outside. We enjoyed: Roasted Parsnip, Beet, and Orange salad - basic but fresh Blue Fin Tuna Marinated in Coriander & Cardamom - nice Asian flavoring; I especially enjoyed the subtle cardamom taste, and the sesame dressing with the chinese broccoli Roasted La Belle Organic Chicken - moist and slightly peppery Organically Farmed Norwegian Ocean Trout - my main plate was possibly the best I've eaten this year. The trout was perfectly cooked (slightly rare inside) and mouth-wateringly delicious; the sides were notable additions as I really enjoyed the kyoto carrots and the celeriac-pear We also were given seconds of the bread basket (overall portions sizes were appropriate, but we were still hungry) For dessert, my husband and I split the Pear, Spice & Everything Nice and gingerbread cream cake. As an experienced diner, I had high hopes for Annabelle, but unfortunately, the food and service did not meet my expectations. While the dishes we ordered were good, they did not justify the price we paid. The service was also lacking, with the host seating us inside despite my apparent discomfort with the cold temperature on Valentine's Day. To make matters worse, our server took a while to come over, and when I visited the restroom, I noticed that there were open seats while we were still waiting for our food. Additionally, our desserts were brought out before our entrees, which was quite disappointing. While the food was enjoyable, it could have been better, and the service and hospitality needed improvement. I would rate the food a 6/10, the service a 7/10, and the hospitality a 6/10. Annabelle is located in Washington DC, and as a professional, I believe that establishments should treat all staff members fairly and respectfully. The servers should be trained to treat the bussers and food runners with the same level of respect they give to customers. Overall, I spent over $400 and made a reservation online, and while I had high hopes for a memorable anniversary celebration, Annabelle fell short of my expectations. Their set up is good: tent-like structure helps block wind and weather, but also provides ample ventilation to not be worried about Covid19. Food highlights: - Squid ink pasta with chilis, capers, and lemon ($26), excellent! - Bacon and egg ravioli ($26), so amazing and creamy, but somehow not heavy. Highly recommend! - Wagyu beef tri tip with amazing arugula pesto, trumpet mushrooms, harissa glazed carrots ($38). Perfection! - Chocolate raspberry mousse with raspberry gel cubes, raspberry foam, white chocolate raspberry swirl ice cream, chocolate crumble ($12). Amazing! I visited Annabelle with my parents and brother while they were visiting DC. Not knowing what to expect, we made a reservation a few days out to try a new place - Annabelle. We were blown away. We arrived about 15 minutes before our reservation because we were coming from another event. Even though all of the tables were still full, our to-be server Adil moved two classy looking wireframe benches together and started us all off with a glass of champagne. What an incredible welcoming! We were then seated outside (we requested an outside table on the res), and the staff intentionally ensured that there were sufficient heaters placed around our table. Silverware was provided promptly, napkins unfolded, and presented with a wonderful level of professionalism. The attention to detail here was fantastic. Adil, our server, spoke at least 4 languages and was a certified sommelier. He brought great energy to the ordering process, had outstanding recommendations on food and wine, and just made it an incredibly enjoyable experience for all of us. The food was out of this world. The wine paired perfectly. Re-emphasis on the attention to detail - watching Adil and all of the food runners and waitstaff at work was like watching a perfectly harmonized performance. The manager, Tim, stopped by our table towards the end of our meal to ensure everything had gone flawlessly (which it had). Punctuated by tasteful jokes, you can see that everyone at Annabelle functions as a top-notch team to provide an unforgettable experience. Such a beautiful restaurant, with an incredibly generous Restaurant Week menu! This is the kind of five star service and food experience reminiscent of the lovely Nora that houses Annabelle now. What an honor to be offered the most gorgeous appetizers , mains and desserts that weren't the usual salmon, chicken and short rib typically found during RW. We had five options for appetizers, including the gorgeous choices we three made - heirloom tomatoes, lovely cucumber and watermelon and melon soup, and stuffed squid with fingerling taters. Mains included sea bass, pork chop (yum!!) and skate wing with clams and mussels. And desserts - so special - blackberry short cake and peanut pave. Just a lovely evening. Thank you. What also made it incredible was the call I got while in transit that our patio reservation was canceled due to a big thunderstorm, but the could offer us indoor seating - shocked, but they made space.
