We slid into two bar seats on a Sunday night, which turned out to be the move. The room felt energetic but still polished, lively without being loud, and the bar vantage point was excellent to see drinks and desserts get created. Service was exceptional, super dialed in and genuinely enthusiastic when explaining dishes without making it feel scripted. The food leans playful but it's backed by serious technique. Every single course was delicious and I could talk about each course but to keep things short here are some of my personal standouts: The "cheeseburger 2050" was the moment everyone talks about for a reason. It's built around elk tartare with layered components that mimic a classic cheeseburger, and somehow it genuinely tastes like biting into a cheeseburger. The bread alone deserves a shout. Soft, slightly sweet, and just rich and toasted enough to pull everything together. The wild part is how convincingly it eats like a cheeseburger. Not just similar, but actually triggers that same flavor memory. "Off the Coast" was another favorite, super clean and fresh. It leaned into ocean flavors with a clean, briny freshness, but the cabbage is what stood out for me personally. It had this perfect balance of crunch and tenderness, that made the whole dish pop. "Understory" completely surprised me. It was incredibly silky with a deep, savory flavor that felt like it had butter and cheese folded into it. But hearing that there was no cheese made it even more impressive. The braised cheek in "Low and Slow" was exactly what you want from that kind of dish. Deeply caramelized, intensely savory, and so tender it barely held together. It melted immediately but still had enough structure to feel substantial, not mushy. I was honestly nervous about the griddled goat since I'm not the biggest fan of goat cheese, but this dish was super balanced and approachable, rather than funky, and I ended up really enjoying it. Courses moved at a steady, comfortable pace, with just enough breathing room to appreciate each dish. From my visit, nothing felt rushed or dragged. Upon entering the staff greeted us & seated us. Asked if they could take our jackets which we agrred to. We were given the drink menu. I got a beer and wifey got an interesting drink that came with a small chocolate to alter the Taste. Called The night shift. After tasting the drink without the chocolate and then with the chocolate there was a distinct difference in taste which made it fun. You kinda get two drinks in one. Now to the interior of the place.. The decor of the restaurant was dark and black in color, with dark tones and interesting modern ambient lighting. A very classy and chic feeling as we sat at our table. The wait staff and host were also very friendly and spot on with service not feeling pretentious but welcoming and relaxed. Let's go through the tasting menu we had. We did add the accelerated or excellerated version of the menu which added caviar, black truffle, and wagyu A5 to perspective dishes. This was an additional cost to the base tasting menu. Cheeseburger 2050, the torn bread super crispy flaky and oily but not in a bad way. Perfect vessel to add in the deconstructed elk burger, caramelized onion puree as well as dipping into the mimolette cheese sauce. The sauce was super creamy and fluffy light in texture eating everything in combination was fun and delicious. A bit heavy feeling as well but this was the plan as after eating this first course we were given two small pieces of lemon rind with a jelly molded onto it. This was a lemony palate cleanser which was fresh and bright removing any heaviness you might have felt from the burger 2050. Bait and Switch. The XO on the cured/ smoked tuna food contain a beef element which when listening to the description my wife picked up on as she is allergic to beef. This info was already given to the restaurant and substitute for the beef dish was already made but I guess this slipped through. The waitress realized(all the wait staff appeared to be very aware of this info which was a great detail for fixing issues as we had here) right away and took this dish away and had the kitchen make one sans xo which was very fast. The shaved foie on top of the oyster melted as you took it into your mouth. Combined with the fresh oyster it was a interesting play with textures and flavors which was very nice. The smoked/cured tuna with shiso was tasty but I felt the shiso overpowered the flavor profile on a whole. Aged with Grace The duck was meaty and tasty not fatty. The sauce and daikon added a tartness and crispy texture to the entire bite of each piece of duck. There was also a bite size fried dish with i believe a froisgrois mousse on top. This was decadent and a very rich bite but flavorful. Off the Coast accel add came with caviar. This addition i do believe added to the flavor profile of the dish. The briny taste from the caviar in addition to the smoked lobster bisque and accompanied seafood was nice and fresh. Under Story This accelerated version came with the shaved truffle. I did not notice it but perhaps if I had a version without i might be able to distinguish between the two. This dish was delicious and tasted earthy which may be from the truffle. Over all this was a nice hearty down to earth flavor profile which was yummy. Slow and Low Wifeys sub for beef was a poached salmon and my accelerated version instead of striploin was Alberta A5 wagyu. The braised beef cheek to my though was the star of this dish. Super beefy and flavorful, crisp but tender as well and hit all the marks i like in terms of beef flavuuur. Griddle Goat Very interesting dessert option, the sour dough vessel for the goat cheesecake and white Chocolate was a play of textures reminiscent of a crispy grilled cheese. Very tasty goat cheesecake and Quince. Lovely texture on the tongue. Far from the Tree This dessert was very nice, the miso apple caramel for me was the highlight of this dish. Slightly salty from the miso but sweet as it was a caramel... super delicious. Uncooked crisps were a delightful texture breaker adding crunch to the soft financier and ice cream. I thoroughly enjoyed this dessert. Final bite A cryocookie which was basically a frozen concoction of ingredients frozen into a cookie. Very hard to bite at first but then it just melts in your mouth like ice cream. As it warms up it gets easier to bite into but the texture play was amazing. Overall a very nice and special dinner. Staff were amazing and food was an experience. Definitely worth a try. read more

I've done a few tasting menus in Vancouver on this trip, and AnnaLena really stood out. This one Michelin star spot absolutely lives up to the hype. We did the tasting menu and every course was thoughtfully executed, beautifully plated, and genuinely delicious. There were a lot of flavor combinations I hadn't had before, and everything felt intentional and well balanced. The ambiance is modern and intimate without feeling stuffy. It's the kind of place where you can relax and really enjoy the experience. Service was top notch from start to finish. The pacing was great, dishes were explained clearly, and we never felt rushed or forgotten. What I really like about AnnaLena is the focus on seasonality and local ingredients. The menu rotates, which makes it feel worth coming back again since it's never the same experience twice. The tasting menu took about two hours, and by the end I was comfortably full and very satisfied. Overall, this was one of the strongest dining experiences I've had on this trip. We had a delightful evening at Anna Lena. It easily demonstrated its reputation as one of the best Michelin-starred restaurants in Vancouver. It's a small space that is both intimate and welcoming. There are a lot of servers and staff here in addition to the kitchen personnel. I suspect the ratio is about one to one between employees and customers. Everyone was extraordinarily welcoming and gracious. The menu is both fun and complex without being pretentious. My favorite dishes were: The Cheeseburger 2050, a deconstructed combination of their amazing torn bread, oak tartare, and a lovely cheese dipping sauce. The oyster with shaved foie gras was also remarkable. The prawn that came with the off the coast course. The frozen cookie at the end of the meal was also a lot of fun. I thought the pricing was quite reasonable considering the quantity and quality of the food. There's also an optional add-on that includes caviar, truffles, and wagyu, which I think is worth it if you particularly enjoy those things. Two wine pairings are offered. I feel it's worth upgrading to the premium pairing because it includes a lovely glass of Dom Pérignon and the spectacular 2021 Avrell Creek Barrel 36 Pinot Noir, which so impressed me that I ordered several bottles from the winery while we were still dining! Buckle down and get ready for a detailed review of this West Coast gem. The dining area has two separate parts, even though it is a small space, it has tall ceilings and light and airy vibes on one side and moody calm vibes on the other. The staff from the host to the bartender to the waitstaff and chefs are impeccable and polite from beginning to end. It was true Michelin star service through and through. The menu was the best I have ever experienced in all my years of dining around the world. It was cohesive and perfectly matched. The first three courses came in two parts which was incredibly unique and yet harmonious at the same time. "Off the coast" included a succulent piece of halibut and an Argentinean prawn coated in delicious sauce although I would dial down the salt a bit on the sauce. "Bait and switch" was an experience for the palate because it included a raw oyster topped with shaved foie, yes you read that right, almost powder like foie gras that melts on your tongue and a contrast with the fresh raw oyster and yet works so beautifully together. The tuna on the dish was also delicious but I would've opted out of the shiso leaf and replaced it with a different green. "Aged with grace" was AnnaLena's duck forward dish which was scrumptious as everything else. The duck was a perfect medium rare and they also had another piece of duck that was fried. At first glance it seemed heavy but the morsel was topped with foie mousse which made it heavenly. I would've preferred a bit less ponzu as the acidity was a touch too much. "All that follows" was what I like to call a fun take on broccoli and cheddar soup with tiny brassica and aerated cheese and needed nothing adjusted as it was flawlessly created. "Under story" carrot agnolotti pasta was decadent and the chilli crisp made it but I would've preferred it to be a bit less sweet or add an acidic element to the dish. "Slow and low" had a medium rare beef striploin along with another bit of braised cheek. The desserts were very yummy but unfortunately didn't match the level of the savoury dishes. "Griddle goat" cheesecake could have added a bit more sweetness to the goat cheese and "far from the tree" apple financier needed a bit more fresh apple flavour. All in all, AnnaLena still is my top recommendation for a Vancouver dining experience and hats off to the chef (in particular the protein one!) read more

AnnaLena was a fantastic experience and one of our favorite restaurants we tried in Vancouver. From the moment we got to AnnaLena, service was spectacular. We were celebrating an anniversary and a birthday for this visit and the service staff all were so kind and great about making sure they congratulated us. It made us feel all the more special. From the front of house to the waiters to the other support staff, everyone was fantastic, on top of service, and relaxed/helpful. They also were so nice in helping accommodate some of my tougher dietary restrictions and was super grateful. The decor of the restaurant is also super fascinating, much like the food as we'll get into. There is a mix of a sleek, modern vibe mixed with interesting and funky choices. I mean this in the best way possible, it was like going to a sleek listening bar mixed with an artsy museum filled with figures, records, and cool little sights to explore. We also interestingly denoted the smaller window to look into the kitchen. Not a complaint as we were able to see the chefs/kitchen staff working but a little different than other similar restaurants. Let's dig into the food and drinks. The menu was a tasting menu filled with 8 items (and some extras in between) and we were both full and happy. The menu itself is super fascinating with the children crayon-like aesthetic that encapsulated both the fun vibe/thought process of the menu mixed in with the Micheiln-quality plating/food that was to come. Here were some of the highlights: *The Cheeseburger 2050: One of our favorites all-around. It was a deconstructed cheeseburger with quality ingredients and playful in appearance. Our waiter told us that the menu would definitely be interactive, and this really kicked off the menu with a bang. We were dipping the bread in the amazing cheese. Soaking in the caramelized onion in the bone marrow-like object. And enjoying pairing that with the tartare. It was innovative. It was fun. And it was delicious. *Temperature Gradient: Quite the opposite of the cheeseburger 2050 - this was a carefully constructed and refined dish that really played with the temperature of each of the items with each of the items plated created using a different temperature. It was beautifully plated and the star of the show, to me, was the roasted sunchoke gelato. What a really playful and utterly delicious dish. *East Meets West: A super well-crafted dish. Loved the addition of the mushroom broth separately. The alkaline noodles were just right and the sablefish was delightfully tender. I also got the mocktail, Revival, which I thought was pretty good for a mocktail. A little on the sweeter side but loved the notes that came out while sipping on it and the lovely cherry waiting for you at the bottom. Quite a gorgeous drink to look at. Our experience was about $200 CAD in the end per person for just the tasting menu. Really appreciated the whole experience and was one of the stronger one Michelin restaurants I've experienced. Went here for date night, heard a lot of amazing things about this place so I had very high expectations. First of all, I really enjoyed every bite of the food. I think whoever came up of those dishes is amazing and deserves the world. However I have to say, I think the service needs to be a little better, I have been to a lot of Michelin restaurants and the servers at AnnaLena are the ones who cannot even properly put down forks and dishes which are comfortable for customers to grab to eat right away. Creative menu with seasonal ingredients. Honestly, this is what I often looking for in a set menu from a fancy restaurant. Each dish is either a new creation from the chef, or a new take of a traditional dish, and either way, we can't predict what it would be. Service is also top notch. They called ahead to check on our allergy or dietary restrictions and made adjustment to the menu that served to us. Since I was pregnant, they made me a slightly different version of some raw food dish without altering the look or taste much! I was really impressed. I'm putting this as one of my top 5 dining experiences I have had! I made reservations exactly 30 days in advance at 9am for Saturday dinner, and fortunately reservations don't sell out in seconds. You have a few minutes to decide usually. We arrived 10 min early to the reservation and was promptly seated. We started off with 2 types of bubbles and I loved how they offer half glass options at roughly half the cost of a full glass, allowing us to try a larger variety of wines. We also opted for the wine pairing, 1 serving. The tasting menu starts off with a very showy AnnaLena ice box featuring oyster and shaved iced foie gras which is pretty decent. I loved the chicken nugget course which has pate and truffle; I'm still thinking of this course to this day. The beet and sunchoke dish is a mini palate cleanser and presently beautifully. For entrees, there is pork secreto with salad which was pretty solid. The pork secreto is served on the side in a skewer format. The lobster and scallop agnolotti is served to al dente but the star of the dish is the buttery flaky bread served on the side. The black cod with green curry is hearty but did not mask the wine pairing. The wagyu beef bavette, beef cheek, and beef carpaccio ends the main courses and I loved the tender texture of the Wagyu. Licorice root with long pepper float was a cute palate cleanser, followed by the hazelnut cake which is not too memorable. But the petit fours ended the meal on a high note, placed on top of a shoe and has a nice backstory behind it - a homage to AnnaLena, the grandma who is 107, who has a shot of Grand Marnier every night so they paired the dessert with a shot of Grand Marnier as a goodbye and wish you a long life. Service is excellent as water gets refilled frequently and they bring each wine and course in a timely manner. The wine is thoroughly explained and they even leave the bottle on your table to take good pictures before they collect them back! Bonus is they have a bunch of LEGOs around the restaurant and that is a nice touch since I am a geek for LEGOs. read more

Service (at the bar) was a highlight, with an excellent bartender that didn't up-sell and was just conversational and pleasant. We walked into this restaurant expecting a nice experience and were absolutely blown away by the best dining experience we've had in a long time. It's only January and I really, really doubt me or my tablemates will have this restaurant beat for at least this entire year, if not several years. The way that I'd best describe this restaurant is that the people who work here *know* what they're doing. This is the best of the best chefs, the best of the best people putting together these inventive menus. It's food that you not only wouldn't make at home, but you wouldn't even *think* of making it. The food is all so carefully crafted; each item goes together and fits into the dish as a whole. Just absolutely, truly a real five-star dining experience. The menu changes every so often, so the description below is the menu at the time I'm publishing this review. It's a tasting menu, nine courses, each with a wine pairing. The first course was a deconstructed cheeseburger- elk tartare, bread, onion dip, and cheese sauce. The bread was both crispy and soft, perfectly baked. The cheese was rich, but not overly so. One of my tablemates commented that the bread was "a lot of fun", which I thought was an apt description. After this course, we were given wet washcloths to wipe our hands. That's how fancy this place is. The second course was a beet with sunchoke puree. Like the elk tartare, this place is so fancy that I didn't know what half the words meant. All I know is that the beet with sunchoke was delicious. The beet was perfectly beet-tasting; it didn't taste too much like dirt while still retaining its beet taste. The third course was two things. First, an oyster with foie gras, which is crunchy. The oyster was very fresh and not too fishy. Second, three tiny little tuna bites, with a light chili oil, mint, and a few other things. The tuna was melt-in-your mouth soft- not so soft as to make it difficult to chew, and definitely not tough. One thing I thought was interesting was that the taste of the chili oil combined with the taste of the tuna to sort of temper both of them- both are strong on their own, but they blend seamlessly together and don't increase the strength of either. Absolute food magic. The fourth course was a spring roll wrapped in lettuce with dip. The spring roll was perfectly crispy, and the filling (pork and chicken liver) was fantastic. Even the lettuce wrapped around the spring roll was perfect- clearly fresh, not overly crispy, not overly soft, just blends together. That's a theme throughout the entire meal. For the fifth course, which was a sablefish with fresh mushrooms and pasta, we had little mushroom chopstick holders to rest the chopsticks on, which I thought was a very whimsical touch. The sablefish was perfectly flaky and perfectly cooked, the pasta (with broth poured over it at the table) was fresh, and so were the mushrooms. The sixth course was beef two ways- steak and beef cheeks. I'm not normally a steak person at all, but this steak was fantastic, perfectly soft but not overly so. There were little sauces with the meats, which were delicious. One of them was a basil emulsion and the other was yellow; not sure what it was but it was delicious. And that was the end of the main course! The first dessert course was a bit of a spreadable cheesecake on some sourdough bread. I'd never thought about doing that before, but the sweetness of the cheesecake and the sourness of the bread were a perfect combination. The sourdough was hot and, like the bread in the first course, perfectly baked. The second dessert course was a sort of orange carrot sorbet thing with matcha meringue. They did a very good job at making sure that the flavours weren't too intense; that would be pretty easy to do that with carrots and matcha, but none of the flavours were too overwhelming. There were no unnecessary ingredients- here or in any of the other dishes. For a few of them, there would be mint or other leaves on top, and even *those* blend seamlessly into the dish as a whole. The final dessert course was something new; they brought over this big red cooler and gave us what they called "cryo cookies"- very cold (not to the touch, though). It's a hard shell with an ice cream centre. They did a good job at making sure that it was just the right temperature- not too cold to make your teeth freeze, but enough to qualify its name. The timing of each course was on point; each finished dish was taken away and each new dish put down like it was choreographed. The experience took almost exactly two hours. There are restaurants that are fancy for no reason, that just serve expensive ingredients. They may be good at making food, but it doesn't seem very inventive. This restaurant is not that. This restaurant knows exactly what it's doing and what it wants to be; it's fancy and absolutely deserves to be called so. It's clear why it's number 10 on the list of Canada's 100 Best Restaurants. read more

A lovely evening at AnnaLena. The vibe here is chic; the service comes across as professional and cordial. Cocktails were good! From the tasting menu, our favorites were the waygu tips, the scallop with torn bread (both delicious! I soaked up all the sauce), and the waygu upgrade for the main (worth it!). We were also quite impressed with the pastry chef for the thoughtful courses. What a great meal here in Vancouver, it was a great experience and all the staffs were amazing. The restaurant really modern and cozy , love the decoration and atmosphere here. They made our anniversary really memorable. I gotta say with this price , it's really worth it. I tried their course meal and pairing. Every bite and drinks were just lovely. To pick out some of my favorite bites would be the oyster with fois gras. Their bread was awesome crispy outside , warm inside. Main course the lamb was great also the sable fish was really nice. Through out the meal , we had a really great time. I can tell the people that works there really enjoy what they are doing. If you ever have a chance to visit Vancouver. Managed to snag a reservation at the now 1-starred Michelin eatery and take a friend who was visiting and another who was new to town. I still think that out of Vancouver's Michelin list, Annalena is a place that deserves to be on there. The last time I was at AnnaLena was when I was about to graduate from high school in 2016, when they still did a la carte and I got the sablefish, but the food quality is just as I remember it. The food portion wise was slightly smaller now that it's become a prix fixe set menu, but my party left feeling full from all the course offerings and the richness of the food. These are photos of their "Chapter 65" offering that goes until September 24th, before they move onto Chapter 66 and a whole new set menu. My favorite was the surprise curry puff amuse bouche and my friends liked the truffle noodle + the torn bread (SO FLUFFY and intrinsically flavorful; you should save some to soak up the soups and sauces of the other dishes) We were a little taken by surprise that the A5 Wagyu "skewers" we got as an add on were just one cube, and came in between courses. But to be expected I guess since it's wagyu and the good thing was that the melt-in-your-mouth taste and quality were definitely there. read more

We partaked in the $148/per person tasting menu. Below is our gustatory journey for the night with an asterisk indicating our favorite dishes, but your menu may be different. Overall, the food was high quality and delicious, so this restaurant should be on your checklist of fancy restaurants. However, the wagyu upgrade ($40) was not worth it, so in hindsight we would not have chosen it. I never thought of myself as having dietary restrictions, but make sure to let them know if you cannot eat raw seafood or alcohol. Service was attentive without being obsequious. - Raw oyster: Tender with a hint of citrusy sweetness. Only one of us could eat it, so I did wish the menu had warned the oyster would be raw. - Tuna: Very tender rock with the right hint of saltiness.  - Dungeness Crab: Very fresh and meaty bite. You can taste the sea * Pork: Succulent and fatty with the perfect amount of sear. - Heirloom tomato salad in a broth with a hint of Parmesan. I wouldn't necessarily ever order a dish like this a la carte, but it was a bright flavor after some meaty dishes.   * Halibut was my absolute favorite dish: The fish itself was cooked fine (I am not a huge fan of white fish, I really only like the fatty flavor of salmon). But the green curry was AMAZING. It was creamy and each sip packed a huge burst of flavor. The torn bread was delicious, crispy and buttery on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside. There was a special butter that wasn't salted and didn't taste very good, so I wouldn't waste too many bread pieces on it. They should open a satellite restaurant that just serves this Curry (which I licked off the plate) and the torn bread (whose crumbs I also licked off the plate.) - Lemon vodka jello shot as a palate cleanser. This was not part of the tasting menu. I also don't drink alcohol because I don't like the taste. So this was not a palate cleanser for me, my palate tasted like vodka. * Carbonara was my partner's favorite dish: Al dente pasta with a creamy carbonara that was not too heavy. Shrimp were cooked perfectly tender. - Mushroom tea, which just tasted like mushroom soup. - Dry age duck breast (base menu) and wagyu ribeye (+$40): The duck and wagyu were both tender and cooked well (as I would expect from an upscale restaurant). Obviously the wagyu was more melted in your mouth tender and fatty. Neither meat impressed as as much as the other dishes. They char the fresh kernels of corn but did not sufficiently char the chanterelle mushrooms, which were somewhat plain. -Duck meat egg roll: The filling texture was so weird & mushy. I did not like this dish and left it unfinished. There was some strangetasting dipping sauce too.  -Licorice roots dessert with Pop rocks exploding in my mouth. *Miso ice cream had a hint of saltiness. The berries were tart. My favorite part was the fresh and crunchy nuts. *Deconstructed Apple pie: Very tart apple gummy. Vanilla nutmeg ice cream. Dense cake. I actually did not like this dessert very much, but my partner thought it was good. read more

Anna Lena, Opened by Chef Michael Robbins and Operations Manager Jeff Parr since 2015, AnnaLena is a sleek dark minimalist restaurant furnished with the finest upscale Italian aesthetics of the mid 2010s. Located in a quiet part of the street, This slim railroad type of space covered in dark terrazzo floors, the wood/stone paneling speak of a soft opulence hummed with vibes of a low volume chill out tunes of the same era. In a way the appeal of AnnaLena is the mystery in dining in the dimly lit space. Plating is earthy, food is dark presentation making them difficult to photograph. We had the tasting menu as did everyone else. Titled chapter sixty three, I'd imagine it denotes 63rd iteration? Course one- Turnip & Radish Crudité Course two- buratta, black garlic caesar, charcoal croutons Course three- Leek & Ramp Velouté king oyster mushroom, green garlic, torn Course four- bread Cacio e Pepe Spaghettini smoked squid xo Course five- Lamb Saddle fried lamb belly, asparagus, romesco jus Course six- Green Apple maple caramel, miso ice cream, financier Service was impeccable. Food delicious, menu flawlessly executed. There's really nothing to complain about. Even the quirky lego, Michael Jordan doll among other dolls and toy cars seem theoretically appropriate as they offset the austerity of the restaurant business. read more

I got lucky to get a reservation at AnnaLena the one night I was staying in Vancouver through the waitlist and it exceeded my expectations - and I had really high expectations from all the reviews and Michelin star!! First of all, the service was amazing, the best I've ever had at a restaurant. Our waitress was really kind and explained the menu thoroughly. She even brought us a free glass of wine due to the previous party taking a little longer to leave making us wait a little. So worth the extra few minute wait haha. Our menu was Chapter 63. We had poured through the menu online before coming which listed 5 set tasting courses. I was delightfully surprised to find that they gave 3 additional courses that weren't listed on the menu to try. They gave us 2 extra small appetizers at the beginning before the first course. Out of the 5 menu courses, the Smoked Squid Spaghettini was my favorite - the pasta was a perfect al dente, had the perfect amount of sauce and consistency and great flavor. I'm not a huge fan of squid, but the way it was cooked was so delicious, almost had a porky flavor. I also loved the bread that came with the second course, it was crispy and doughy and went so well with the sauce. The 3rd additional course they gave us was a small rice krispy and jelly at the end after dessert. The tasting menu was $98 CAD which I thought was pretty affordable for a Michelin-starred tasting menu. I was also so full by the end of it. Stellar all around. Every single bite was delicious, several items in particular managed to stop time delighting the senses and flavor bombing the palette. Love love love the chill vibe here. Nothing pretentious. Every person was outstanding and authentic and a pleasure to be around. From the moment we sat down we were gently whisked away on a culinary adventure, from start to finish it was a perfect experience. Ambiance: simple and classy - lovely for date night! Super accommodating with dietary restrictions (I don't eat lamb or goat products so they replaced the meat on their menu with beef for me) Just let them know a day before hand :) Food: Overall, delicious with some interesting flavors and presentations. The highlight for sure was the bread. OMG at first we saw other tables and thought it was some sort of roasted cauliflower lol but no - it was the fluffiest, most buttery bread, ever. Super tasty and just soaks up all that nice sauce it's served with (literally soaks up all that nice umami flavor from the mushrooms). It was heaven. The little bite sized treats at the end of the meal were also super interesting, especially the foie gras rice krispees. I really liked it - have never seen that combo before, liked that salty-sweet pair. Definitely interesting. My bf thought it was horrendous though lol, said the two should never be combined as they're fantastic on their own. I guess it's one of those love it/hate it foods. read more

We had a very very long travel day and were honestly so exhausted when we arrived we had zero interest in a tasting menu. We were also starving. We had very low expectations which were beyond exceeded! I am so happy to share I had such a great experience dining at AnnaLena. As a vegetarian who enjoys fine dining, it is so rare to come by an establishment which knows how to not only make vegetables taste out of this world, but to leave you feeling perfectly full. I completely felt that after leaving this restaurant after enjoying the tasting menu! There were 10 courses and they were all absolutely spectacular as was the service. Everything was amazing! ABSOLUTE LOVE. I actually didn't know very much about this place at all until I surprised my gf with a trip to Vancouver and she made sure we could dine here at Annalena. Now that they are 1-Michelin star, I think it's a bit hard for ressies to come by! Right away just the vibe of the restaurant was soothing. Dark interiors, bold walls, funky decor. You know you're in for a swank experience. I didn't really know what the style of food was, but the drinks were funky and delicious, the flavors on each dish was pretty much explosive & cohesive at the same time, and the entire meal was excellent. I particularly love their idea of engaging with your food in cleaner ways because we definitely feel more feasty when we pick food up, so a lot of creative ways to eat as well. Annalena is a combination of hype street aesthetics meets fine dining. They have cool figurines that blends seamlessly with the luxurious fine dining atmosphere. The tasting menu here is something to try out if you want to try some of their best dishes. They are highly deserving of the Michelin star that they have received and I would definitely recommend you make a visit! Excellent service, incredible food, and well informed staff, all while seeming proper yet not snobby, AnnaLena had it all. The tasting menu was phenomenal, and I was sad the torn bread wasn't on the menu. But the Brick Bread felt eerily similar and by far the best dish. Everything was incredible, and the mini surprise bites in between were all delicious. The service... was outstanding. An incredibly well informed sommelier and servers that were kind and genuine, everyone was on their A game. The restaurant was beautiful, but never felt stuck up - not snobby at all.
