I have been going here for 4 years & today experienced the worst customer service ever. John and Tammy know me by name, yet today I felt like a stranger in their salon. I found a gift certificate my husband had given me from two years ago in a coat I was donating and was psyched! I knew it was old, but I go there regularly & thought nothing of it, confidant that John would honor the gift certificate he wrote out & signed. I was wrong. Instead I was met with hostility & back peddling... John informed me that he COULD NOT honor the certificate where as I let him know that he COULD honor it...He just CHOOSES not to. IT IS THE LAW IN MASSACHUSETTS THAT A GIFT CERTIFICATE MUST BE REDEEMABLE FOR A MINIMUM OF 7 YEARS FROM ITS DATE OF ISSUANCE - REGARDLESS OF WRITTEN EXPIRATION DATE. I have been a regular at Anna's Nail Salon for at least two years. They are located on a street that has 3+ nail salons with in walking distance. I had tried the others prior to going to Anna's. Once I came across Anna's I knew I had found my go to nail place. Tammy and John run a friendly and professional nail salon. They are always cheerful upon arrival. The customer service is not the only aspect that keeps me coming back every two weeks. The quality of their work is wonderful as well. I haven't been to Anna's after they changed management. However I'm so glad I did. The interior was redecorated and the space felt a lot less cramped than before. They have an ok color selection for manicures, but shellac is where they really shine (pun unintended). They have pretty much every color under the sun and then some when it comes to shellac. My friend got a shellac mani and that only set her back thirty dollars and as I had just gotten my nails done recently I got a gel removal and polish change for ten dollars. They also offer shellac pedicures which is not the common. Definitely worth a try! read more

Where to start.... Got my eyebrows waxed here, the technician dropped the stock with the wax in my hair because her nasty 3 inch nails were to long to grip it. Took half an hour to get the wax out, she should have not even charged me! But she did and all I got was a giggle and her telling me this isn't a big deal. FOR ME IT WAS. I thought I would never come back, but in a desperate attempt to be ready to go for an interview I need to get a manicure. So I asked them to give me a nice red color of gel that has a matching color for my toe nails.... when they were done, I had fire engine red nails and an maroon toenails. Once again I am told it's ok. No one will see. So evidently it's ok for then to decide what is important and what matters. I can't express enough that you should go else where. Yen and Crew or Melrose Nails will be far better and if they mess up, they will at least offer to fix it. read more

I used to live in Melrose and would go to this salon all the time. I moved to Boston and have been looking for a place as good as Anna Nails, I have yet to find it. Even though I live in Boston and do not work near melrose, I will make an effort here and then to return to Anna Nails because they are excelente! The costumer service is great! They are extremely nice and John always help me pick a color. He has the best suggestions! They always have great collection of colors according to the seasons. I get really annoyed when I get a manicure and it doesn't get evenly colored or chips right away... at Anna's it takes a while to chip and I know I have 2 or 3 coats of nail polish on the full nail! Great gel manicure! It lasted a full 3 weeks and probably would have lasted longer had I not decided to trim my overgrown nails, leading to some corners turning up allowing the polish to peel off (I'm a sucker for peeling off polish, as terrible as it is for your nails). I can't wait to go back for my next mani, and to try out a pedi too! The salon is small, but very clean and bright. I went in without an appointment and didn't have to wait long at all. They accept credit cards, though no tipping on cards (pretty standard). Very reasonably priced. My only complaint is that there aren't more color options for gel polish. I went in with a specific color in mind and there was only one option in that color family. Not a reason not to return though, I will definitely be back! read more

I've never written a yelp review because i just don't bother but this place has changed that. I spend atleast $50 every time i come to this location and pay extra for gel polish. After 2 times of the gel nail polish coming off and changing color after 7 days. I decided to give them one last chance when today I was charged for my nails to be redone due to the gel nail polish coming off after 6 days. I asked the owner if i would be charged as this wasn't my fault and she said yes $20. I said absolutely not. I have never been charged by any other nail salon for a product coming off my nails. What a hidden gem. We just moved to the area and I was sick of driving 40 minutes for my nails. Anna's nails is just what I was looking for. Quiet, clean and Tracy was a pleasure to talk to. I have been getting my nails done (acrylics, gel mani's, and pedi's) by Tammy and Jon since I moved to Melrose I'm 2011 and I have never been disappointed. They are friendly and polite, but not overly chatty to where you cant relax and enjoy your service. I have tried some of the other salons in town and around greater Boston, and I always come back to Anna Nails, as I don't mind paying a bit more to know that I will always be happy with how my nails look. My third time coming to this place, I'm all set with ever going back. First time I came in with one of my girlfriends she asked for the package manny and pedi and the girl who does the pedicures took it upon herself to give her a different pedicure which landed my girlfriend into paying extra. (Mind you they have since took the brochures off the front desk). I walk in today and tell her I wanted a manicure and pedicure. Before I sat down for my pedicure I explained to the girl I wanted the most basic pedicure they had, no massage nothing. And still with my ten min pedicure of cutting my nails, shaping and painted; all because she slabbed oil on my heels it was an extra 10$. I went to Anna before I was going on a 3 and a half week vacation in europe for a manicure and pedicure. she was very professional and nice, the store was clean, and there was no wait even though i was a walk in. the manicure lasted a good week and a half which i think is very good for a french and the pedicure last pretty well for the entire vacation, despite the fact i was in the beach most of the time! I went to Anna's after seeing a friend's shellac manicure that had lasted 3 weeks and still looked good! Every other gel/shellac I had barely lasted the 2 weeks it was supposed to before it started peeling. I called and got an appointment for that evening. Easy to find and clean!! The girl who did my nails explained things to me and was very friendly. Tomorrow will be 3 weeks since I got my manicure and it JUST started to peel on ONE nail yesterday. I got a light color so you can't really tell. I could probably get away with another week, but I broke one and want it to be fixed. Finally a place that does acrylic nails the way they should be done! Since I've moved to Boston from South Florida I've had the hardest time finding a nail salon that does pink and white acrylics the way I'm used to...with precision and using products that really make your acrylics last. Not only was it a relaxing environment, but the nail technician explained what she was doing. I love that! The salon is clean and the whole staff made me feel welcome. I've been coming to Anna's for regular manicures and pedicures for a couple of months. At other salons, non-gel nail polish does not usually last for more than two days on my nails and has just peeled off or chipped off depending on which salon I've gone to. Tammy and John convinced me that with their products and technique I should have longer lasting polish. I've had all three technicians apply polish and it has consistently lasted six to seven days. My daughter gave me a gift certificate to Anna's Nails last year for Mothers' Day. It was a wonderful experience and I have been going there fairly regularly for the past year. They are very nice, the salon is immaculate and the experience is so relaxing. The best feature is my nails, which had always chipped and peeled, are now stronger and look great. They use quality products and no at home touch ups are ever needed. Oh - did I mention the bottle of water offered upon the start of your appt? Recently I was chatting with Tammy and she said that she bought the salon in 2010 so that explains the negative review that the salon received in 2009. I am thrilled to pass on my experience here in the hopes that people find it helpful to NOT go here. I was searching for a nail salon nearby that was open later than 7pm. Google said they were open until 8pm so I thought perfect! I called and spoke to a male who answered right away and said he could take two shellac manicures. He took our names and said to be there within 5-10 mins. We were there in under 10 minutes. When we got there it felt very rushed before it even started. He sat us down to prepare and said he would bring the colors to us. I couldn't decide on a color considering they had all spring colors and very light. It was taking me some time so he started shoving colors so I would hurry up. HIM: "I'm going to start the manicure because I don't have time for this" ME: "Oh I'm sorry I thought you closed at 8pm it said that online" HIM: "No 7:30pm, it says so on the door" ME: "Well I wouldn't see that until I got here anyway. I've never heard a manicurist say I don't have time for this" HIM: "Well now you have" I immediately said "Wow I'm going to pass on the manicure" He said "Good" ME: "I am surprised you would talk to your clients this way when you have tons of competition in Melrose" HIM: "Well you are wasting my time" ME: "You close in one hour. I can't pick a color because you have crappy colors" HIM: "You have no taste" ME: "Wow for a business owner you really do a poor job treating customers with respect" I truly couldn't believe he had the guts to speak to customers this way and not only that he would have kept going back and forth with words If I continued to have a comeback. This place is great. I have been to three other nail salons on Main Street in melrose and Anna's is by far my favorite. They pay attention to you the majority of the time you are there and aren't busy doing a million other things. I'm in and out in about 45 min and that's for an acrylic gel fill sometimes eyebrow wax. The nail clinician that does my nails is quick but still takes her time and pays attention to the detail making sure I am always pleased. I have been here 5 times or so and have never had a bad experience. In fact my nails last longer than they have anywhere else and I have been routinely getting my nails done for 4 years in all different areas of the north shore (depending on where I lived) So that says a lot. I do recommend making an appointment to ensure they have the time for you but as long as you do that then you should have a great experience getting your nails and/or toes done. Like others I used to go to a nail salon diagonally across the street. But I realized I was over paying for fills that I was not happy with at all. I tried to give Anna the benefit of the doubt. When I would go in there she would be on the phone the whole time. She would have it on speaker and sometimes I wouldn't even realize it because minutes of silence would pass and then she would start talking in her native language. Now I don't have a problem with that. But to be on the phone every single appointment the whole appointment really bothered me. Also although there is a TV in there it was never the news or something somewhat universal that everyone could live with it was always comedy shows or talent shows or movies in Vietnamese. Once in a while OK not every time. It was as if she didn't care if she made her customers feel comfortable or not. Although in all fairness her husband always tried to make conversation and always turned the TV to something else. Then the last straw was when I would get my eyebrows waxed. I came to realize that she was using pieces of SCRAP PAPER!!!! I now go to Angel Nails near Caruso's pizza and am very happy with the result of my nails and their customer service. read more

They were so nice, offering water or coffee and everything was so clean. First let me tell you I was petty new for this place- only have been going there for 6 month. I was looking for eyelash extensions and got them done there and literally fell in love. But last few times technician Ann did them I wasn't happy about and I told the owner John and she immediately fixed it. Well 2 week ago I went for a regular 2 weeks eyelash refill and a gel pedi. Got infection in 2 toes but decided not to say a word. Today I went for a 2 weeks eyelash refill ( and literally had no eyelashes left- they all fell out and I believe Ann changed the glue because last time and today I could feel burning and tingling which I never experienced before) and sadly she only spent 15 min of doing the refill and of course the lashes look different in length and some of them actually twisted and looking down. I asked her to do my regular 15 size and don't understand why all of them different in length. After Ann was done i was very surprised that it only took her 15 min and I saw the result in the mirror- it was horrible!!!and I asked her why she really didn't put many eyelashes and why they all are so uneven and she said its due to my natural lashes! She said "you have no eyelashes yourself so I can't do nothing" well yes that's why I've been doing extensions just to compensate my short lashes! I asked if John was there so I can show him and she said he was off for today. And I told her I was very unhappy and I don't like the way my lashes look and she asked if I was ready to pay. There are many great things about this salon. I love that they take their time and their manicures last. I like that they autoclave their tools and open the fresh package right in front of the customer. I appreciate that they are never busy when I go in and can always get my nails done. My reason for giving them only 3 stars.... I absolutely hate feeling pressured every time I go in to get more than I wanted. They are always trying to get me to upgrade from polish to shellac, add on a pedi if I only want a Mani, etc.... It is uncomfortable, and I absolutely hate it. The new management discriminates against the elderly. They instituted a policy of no toenail cutting to eliminate older clientele - the manager even stated that to my octagenarian mother after publicly commenting during a pedicure that she'd let her nails grow too long: "that's why we don't cut toenails any more." The place is cluttered, cramped, dimly lit, disorganized, and understaffed; the managers are rude.They cost more for a manicure/pedicure than the clean, spacious, organized and unfailingly friendly and welcoming competition across the street. So I went here for the first time today because I found a groupon for eye lash extensions. I used to get them done all the time in Japan for around $50, so I figured a groupon for $70 ish dollars was ok seeing that in reality it cost 100+ which is ridic. But anyways. Back in Japan I went to my eye lash ladies house and she was very professional and very quiet when setting up her station and ready for me. Fast forward to today and I'm told to lay on the bed and the lady didn't seem ready as she put the tape on my eyes and I hear a bunch of clinking and clanking of her going through a box of stuff right next to my ears. She slammed everything and was just very loud. It wasn't a calm environment and I felt on edge. There were only 2 workers so she picked up the phone every time it rang and had to keep starting and going. Anyways. Fast forward to when I'm done. She takes off the tape and asks me to sit up- but I find that I can't. Why? Because the glue to my eye lashes plate was stuck to my hair- mind you I just got my hair colored yesterday and payed crazy money for that- so I was upset. She laughed and pulled it out. I was not happy. And can still feel some glue in my hair. The environment (1.5 hrs that I was there) wasn't comforting. The eye lashes I got are ok. But there is no way in hell I would pay full price for it. I most likely won't return as I don't think my experience could be better. read more

The only place to wait is the window sill, where 2 cushions designate spots for two customers shoulder-to-shoulder next to whatever else is shoved there for storage. That about covers their attitude toward people. At $5 more than one salon just opposite ($2 more than the other) -- ostensibly justified by the offer of soft drinks in the one concession made to hospitality -- there is nothing here worth the condescension of the manager(s) in a location overrun with nail salons, one of which (Yen's) is glorious. I've been going to Anna Nails for 3 years. I've never had an issue, I'm always happy with my nails and I'm very particular. I recently switched from gel nails to my natural nails and have been getting shellac manicures, they are awesome! This salon is very clean, pleasant, and professional. They have many different packages for different services and everything is listed in their brochure which you'll find on the front desk when you walk in. I've tried many different salons before coming to Anna Nails and I will never change. They have a very loyal following of customers. I would recommend making an appointment instead of just walking in, as they are a salon that works more off of appointments rather then rushing through a mani/pedi and doing a bad job just to take walk-in clients. read more
