I only tried the cheese stix, so take that into account when you're reading. A little disappointing. I expected a local place that's been around for 31 years would be a bit better. But the cheese stix were not very flavorful. I was expecting more of a garlicky taste. The marinara tasted sweet and I prefer a tart flavor. And the price was supposed to be $15.15+$1.25 for bacon, but for some reason they charged $18.20. Then another 3% on top. So I don't know what was happening with the prices. Visiting family on the east side of Madison we decided to get a couple of pizzas. Looking online 4 1/2 star reviews we decided to order from Anna's and I would pick it up. Looked at the large pizza and with one topping it would be about $19. So great I added four more toppings and thin crust. The small pizza was for my son who can't have cheese. So he had vegetarian toppings. I guess the sauce they put on top. Drove all the way over there which was a bit of a drive. I know it only took 12 minutes, but it felt like longer. I waited another 10 minutes and gave me the bill of $62.83. I said excuse me why is this so expensive? I thought that the large pizza was gonna be probably around $25 and the small pizza?? The lady there said the large beach was $35 because of the extra toppings. And I said the small pizza she said it was $24 which should've been about $14 and added toppings. OK, so I get the pizzas back to the house because we had to eat. First of all if you ordered a one topping pizza for $19 and they add a few other toppings the amount of toppings for each individual topping so you really end up with the same amount of topping on the pizza. The small pizza is the smallest pizza that was just a shame. There was no cheese so they should've taken money off of that pizza. No they charge $24 for that pizza. It's a little one too. So this is how the pizza tasted. The crust it's not crust it's almost like bread something that you would buy from the store and take home and make your own pizza. It wasn't crusty and wonderful to chew simple taste almost like a pizza that you would buy from the grocery store and heat up in your oven. And on top of that they charge you a surcharge for $1.83. What! Yeah, you can get me once but you can't get me twice. Never again, especially when there's so many good pizza places around. read more

We decided to order pizza carry out while visiting a friend in Sun Prairie on Sunday. My friend called to place out order and was told our order would be ready in 40 minutes. We arrived on time to pick up our pizza but it wasn't ready on time. *Anna's PIzzeria only takes cash or check... so plan accordingly. About 10 minutes after our arrival my friend walked out with our pizza and garlic cheese bread. The garlic cheese bread was very disappointing.... like I was shocked when I opened the box. The bread was not toasted and had little to no cheese on it... being back in Wisconsin I wanted all the cheese in my life and this garlic cheese bread was a total let down. Anna's is reopened after the tragedy that shuttered them for so many months, and I have to say that they were still worth the wait. Flat out, Anna's is THE BEST pizza in Sun Prairie. Sure, Sal's is fancy, and I love their farm-to-table ethic. Sure, Sugar River is nice and has a cool vibe. Sure, Falbo's or Rosati's knows what they're doing. Sure, Glass Nickel is an institution. But as far as TASTE goes--none of them hold a candle to Anna's. Anna's is old school, Wisconsin-style pizza done the right way, with the right cheese, with the right sausage and pepperoni. The thing about pizza is that everyone has their preferences which skew the ratings, so I will try to make this objective. The good: This is a local joint that has a homey, small-town feel. The toppings and ingrediants remind me of my parents homemade pizza that we made every once in a while growing up. Staff is really nice as well. The Not-so-good I am a fan of thin crust pizza, which is exactly what this is. The only problem is that this pizza is incredibly sloppy and greasy. Some people love a little grease, but I like to be able to hold my pizza with 1 hand brooklyn taco style, which is impossible with this pizza. Toppings taste great, but the continuity of the pizza is like a lasagna. This place is truly family owned and with quality pizza. If you like tossed crust or a little thinner this is one for you. The cheese is awesome and we always get mushrooms and sausage. The mushrooms are canned but tasty. The sauce isn't overly sweet or savory, it's very much a good pizza all around. We get it at least 3 times a month. read more

Very small restaurant with the old-school wood panelling and cheapie tables and chairs. Only Bud and Miller on tap and they don't take credit or debit cards. The older woman who runs the place (Anna?) was adorable and super sweet, so I hate to say anything bad about the food. That being said, the pizza was allright, but they used canned mushrooms instead of fresh. If I am paying $12 for a pizza, I expect fresh ingredients. Anna's is actually right next to a Domino's and between the two of them, Anna's wins hands down, but it's pretty easy to find a better pizza in Madison. read more

It had been a while since we picked up a pizza here but remembered having some good ones in the past. We called in an order for carry out & it was ready when we got there. We ordered a 4 topping 16" pizza (1 meat) with extra cheese & it was $25. When we got home & opened it there didn't seem to be much cheese & it was slightly over baked. The pizza tasted funny to us and didn't seem fresh. We were bummed. We didn't even eat a quarter of the pizza. Not sure why this pizza was so bad compared to others from the past but the cheese didn't pull or stretch--something we'd expect from an extra cheese pizza--& the other toppings didn't have good flavor either. Sadly, I'm not sure we'll try another from here. I hope it was just one bad pizza. But for $25 I expect better taste. The positive I'll leave with is that the customer service was great. read more

Wow this place is terrible!!!!! We ordered a four slice garlic cheese bread. We got two slices of itty bitty bread cut in half to make four pieces. Worse part, it was store bought bread dabbed with butter with a spit of cheese that was barely melted on top. Add insult to injury, the sauce was fresh out of the fridge. Seriously??? Decent pizza overall. Real cheese, flaky thin crust, and almost enough toppings to justify the above-average price. Unfortunately, I feel that lots of spicy sauce really makes a pizza, and Anna's pizza was lacking here in both flavor and quantity. The crust is also fairly flavorless - you won't find yourself eating the crust unless out of hunger. Another reviewer commented on the canned mushrooms, which I don't mind, but they're definitely canned. Annoyingly, prices & items on the Specialty pizzas are not posted, and there are no menus except the board behind the register. Anna herself was working and was very friendly and she gave great service - you could tell she has a lot of repeat business (always a good sign). For that reason alone I'll be back for at least one more shot - asking for double sauce. No offense to the other reviewers thou, but it's nowhere near the best pizza in the Madison area. I've never been to Anna's so I can't comment on the atmosphere or service. I have had delivery twice now and I haven't been impressed. The first time was ok. The pizza is nice and cheesy and good toppings but the crust is really bland and not impressive. The second time was god awful. It was a stormy night so I believe they were having some timing issues. I ordered a pizza and cheese bread. It took so long to get my order that by the time it arrived it smelled and tasted like the cardboard box(not kidding). I could make better cheese bread with white bread and cheddar cheese. There was absolutely no seasoning...it was a little bit of mozz sprinkled on tiny slices of italian bread. I will never order from them again. I'll sooner buy a frozen pizza for what I have to spend at Anna's. read more

Her husband Jeff makes the Pizza, Lonnie does the deliveries, and Anna is the waitress. If you are looking for a fast meal, this is not the place, but if you want the best pizza ever, then it is worth the wait. HINT: If you are going to dine in, call and order your pizza ahead of time. Our pizzas : 12" green olives, onion and sausage (housemade, according to Anna) 12" anchovies and tomatoes The total came to less than $30. We had nearly a whole pizza left after the 2 of us ate till full. both where delish ! We try to eat healthy, so it's always disappointing whole grain crust isn't more available, but their crust (thin by default) was a good, thin white crust - a neutral vehicle for everything else. It's homemade crust and isn't soggy in middle like some can be. It's not cracker-thin, but if you want it, maybe ask? The cheese is real good, genuine oily mozzarella. Neither sauce or cheese was skimpy (like some other reviewers said they experienced). If you are worried about too little sauce, maybe request a side to dip and double cheese is available by request. Though their selection is smaller and less adventurous, we agreed it was just as good as the highly esteemed Salvatore's pizzas. We will order again soon and try lasagna, garlic bread and salad too. They were so nice to deliver all the way out to highway C and Vinburn. *Note to self* send Anna's a thank you card for the delivery of piping hot fresh pizza, J loved the Works pizza I ordered. Anna's definitely does not skimp on the toppings or real moz cheese. Another HUGE bonus was the bacon being super fresh too. I still like salvatore pies but this "pizza war" in SP does not even equivilate. Anna's is more of a traditional American pizza done right with fresh ingredients and tangy zesty sauce, which I'd order by the shot glass if they had a bar. There's no place like Anna's pizza. Anywhere! The best lil mom n pop (& son) joint with awesome thin crust pizza. Anna uses her Gramma's recipe and the best ingredients-- the sauce is not too acidic, not to sweet or spicy-- it's just right. Our favorite is double cheese, onion, and green olive. It's da bomb! You will never find coupons for Anna's either. But I (coupon queen) believe it's worth it any time we celebrate something special, we order Anna's and bring it home with a bottle of fine wine for a perfect celebration of life with a touch of Anna's. Awesome Pizza!!! I was recommended to try Anna's Pizza by her brother Sam, who has been working for my favorite pizza place for over 20 years, Jim's Pizza in Janesville, WI. Anna told me to tell Sam that her pizza was better.....and she was right. The pizza was just the same as Jim's but the crust was just a touch thicker, but the sauce is unreal, it's very sweet and they load the cheese on. I now have 2 favorite pizza places and one of them is just 2 minutes away, which could be dangerous. They don't have a very big menu, but trust me you will love her pizza! FYI, Anna's is now carryout and delivery only. Tried it for the first time today and was very impressed. Great light, crispy crust and while some pizzas go for the "spice bomb in your mouth" approach Anna's has a more subtle flavor, which seems to be pretty common from around here and south to Rockford. If you've been to Jim's in Janesville it's similar, but less sweet. Yes, Anna's does use canned mushrooms but there was a time when just about EVERY pizza joint in this part of the country used them, and they're what a lot of us remember and love. read more
