Stopped in for a quick (90seconds in a 900F stone pizza oven) pizza last night. This place has nearly always been very accurate when the pizza is cooked with perfect leoparding on the crusts perimeter. This visit was a reminder of when they get it right it's incredible. But in truth, the previous two visits, they failed at this, due primarily (how I chose to justify the error) because they were very busy on those two consecutive visits on a Friday night during a dinner rush. That was early last June, which I recall because it happened to have been my sisters birthday. I was let down enough that I didn't want to return for the foreseeable future. In May it happened the first time which I figured as a forgivable mistake. Last night I just wanted pizza and it had to be done in the way that I prefer. Plus I had earlier this week noticed that the University Ave location had closed down, which I learned when I asked, had happened in June as well. But this visit was not to be a sorry decision. Because they were slow, maybe at 40% capacity I was surprised when my pizza came out well before I was expecting it. At first peek, it looked great in the box. 27min later at home it was no longer hot but it smelled amazing. It also looked incredibly well made. Perfectly consistent spotting of the high gluten doughs edging and the texture was precisely what I was hoping for. Pulcinella is the usual pie that I always get, with added roasted garlic. Often I also request prosciutto as well but this time I wanted the pure basic taste I've come to adore.

It's a beautiful restaurant and the staff are amazing but the pizza is just OK. I built a meat lovers build your own pizza and it was good. I ordered online and would've liked to put in instructions to cook it well done, but I did not have that opportunity. And that's exactly what it needed - crisp up that crust a bit. Otherwise great concept of pizzas and build your own options. I also had the lemon sorbet, which was good.

Caprese wase my absolute favorite item here. It was mainly fresh Wisconsin Mozerella cheese. I loved it. It comes with olive oil, pesto, baby tomato, toasted bred and arugula. Pesto pizza was my another favorite here. Again the hightlight of that is also fresh Wisconsin Mozzerella, pesto, baby tomato and olive oil. I also went for a canoli for dessert. I had an espresso coffee to finish the meal. Quantity was small, but the coffee was very strong. I dined in for lunch. You go to the cashier, order food, pay for it, take a token number and wait in a table. Food came pretty quickly.

Interior shot behind the oven. The space was not warm either, meaning the heat stays where it should and goes out like it should.

Went to lunch a bit late, around 1:30pm on a Tuesday. Ordered a naponetana and a cannoli. Pizza size was good, perfect for one person. It arrived rapidly (three orders were ahead of me). The anchovies were not overly salty, the balance in flavor vs sauce and crust was excellent. I of course wanted to two other pizzas, but considering I have a couple of hours drive yet and need to stay awake, I did not get the chance to try them all. The cannoli was delicious. Service was very attentive, polite, and positive. Id come again if in the area.

Visited Novanta again for a Friday dinner. With summer in full flight, it was great to enjoy their outdoor dining patio. We ended up ordering a pepperoni and sausage pie and they were just as good as I had remembered. The pies were each $13 which I thought was reasonable for a handmade woodfired pie. The crust of the pie had nice chew and flavor from the heat of the oven. The toppings tasted great and overall service was fantastic. Will return!

Novanta is one of my favorite spots to grab dinner with friends. They usually close at 9pm but don't close the kitchen exactly at 8pm, which really helps! I've been here twice so far and have no complaints: service was amazing (and quick), food was great, and prices are reasonable (~$13 for a personal pizza). The first time here I got a margherita pizza, which I really enjoyed (even more so than the toscano that I had during my second visit - was a bit underwhelming because it doesn't have sauce). I heard from friends that their caprese is also good. Anyways, I've yet to try their desserts but look forward to eventually doing so!

AMBIANCE - situated on one of the main drags of downtown, this place definitely had a college staple vibe to it, though we did see a number of families in here while we were dining. Adequate seating and fairly clean, I can see this place getting packed during the school year. SERVICE - people working the counter were very friendly, and made a few recommendations on which slices we should try. While we did stray from some of their recommendations, they got our order out hot and fast. MENU - I love pizza joints like this - sell by slice with a number of both classic and creative takes on pizza. They also have rotating special slices. I think we just missed their July 4th specials, but they had plenty of other options to choose from. FOOD - we ended up going with a macaroni and cheese slice, as well as a bbq chicken ranch pizza. considering my kids had just eaten a meal, you would have never known as they finished the majority of both slices. While the bbq chicken was good, the star was the mac and cheese pizza. My one son declared this the best thing he had in Madison ("that's high praise"). OVERALL - definitely worth a stop if you got a pizza hankering. $4-6 bucks a slice? make sure to try a few and see which one you like best. CELEBRITY RATING - Michael Cera

As with their Garver location there were about a dozen pies to choose from - most of them are a bit too weird for my taste so I just stuck with a classic like pepperoni and mushroom. Though reheated the large slices were very tasty. $5-$6 a slice. They also have salads and some other snack items. Unlike at Garver they do not have beer - makes sense given the State Street location - I am sure they do this to reduce their headaches. A good slice at a good price.

When you walk in, you place your order at the counter, and bring an order number to your table. I'm on the search for the best pizza in Madison, and Novanta made it pretty high on my list. The ingredients tasted fresh, and the flavors were simple but delicious, like most Neapolitan pizzas. I'm a huge fan of pizzas baked in stone ovens, and I was not disappointed by Novanta's ovens, which were imported from Italy. The staff was very friendly! They greeted us warmly and made sure we had everything we needed when the pizzas were served. I will definitely be back soon!

With 2 Wood fire pizza ovens and an open kitchen concept, this place was it for me. Pizza: personal size, got the Salsiccia ($13) which was delicious. Crust was amazing, thin but scrumptious. Service: it was empty when I went at 2 and you order and pay first even if dining in. A lady (I believe her name was Lugenia?) was manning the front. Had to ask for napkins and asked for a cup of water. Got the napkins and an empty cup, water never showed up, no explanation. An elderly white couple showed up afterwards and they got the whole speech, come to find out (by eavesdropping) that there's a water fountain in the back. Well now I'm glad I tipped for no service at all. As I was leaving, a young lad was changing shifts with her and he seemed very friendly and thanked me for coming in. So maybe I just got unlucky with the service because he seemed a lot chipper. Parking: in the back, make a right at the light after passing the bagels shop. TLDR: come for the great pizza, but service could probably be a hit or miss. Takeout pizza would be amazing here.

We started eating it within minutes, outside, but it was just a mess. The square slices are a bit weird but not the end of the world. The soggy bottom was a real problem though. It wasn't like the pizza had been sitting steaming for half an hour, it was less than 5 min from when someone handed us the box. I also wasn't particularly impressed with the double crust/sauce - which I wanted because the menu says thin crust and I like pizza with enough chewy crust to feel like I'm actually eating something. The part underneath the toppings felt like standard crust though, while the thick part was heftier (although strangely puffed because it's 2 layers). The toppings themselves were just ok, not all that flavorful. I'm not sure what went wrong with the crust since even in the restaurant it would come out on a pan. Maybe their double crust just doesn't work?
