I took my Dog to Ann's Pet Grooming due to the place I always take him was booked. I tried Ann's. He hadn't been cut in about 4 months. I told them to cut him short and cut his face in a teddy bear cut and trim his tail. I was shocked when I went to pick him up he looked like a different dog! They didn't just cut him they scalped him. He looked skinny shaved and barely recognizable. I asked for a short cut but never expected to see the tasteless cut they did on him. It will take about three months for his beautiful hair to grow back. I read the reviews and they were good, but wow did they ever do a bad cut on my dog. I am so disappointed. I called to schedule an appointment for just the usual without the bath for my dog. I'm insanely picky about dog groomers for the sake of my fur child. When I dropped my dog off here, they were patient and kind with how scared she was coming l in. I hung out at the park across the street for a little bit and waited for the phone call to pick her up. As soon as I got the call, I walked back over to come get her. I took not even an hour for the whole thing. At the end, they asked how I liked the cut, if there was anything that I would like changed, and even offered my dog a treat for when she was ready to eat again! Great service here! I took my 6 month old puppy to get full grooming yesterday (haircut, shampoo, ear cleaning, nail clipping) and the results were awesome. She came out smelling so good and really soft. Ann is really kind and I felt at ease as soon as we stepped inside. Great prices as well. It's a little hard to find, it's in a small building off state college and there's parking in the back of the building. I will be coming back for sure! Update (4/28/17): I adopted another dog about 2 months ago and she's still a little apprehensive and nervous around new people, but she desperately needed a haircut and just full grooming in general. We made sure to bring her in first thing in the morning for an 8am appt and ann was so patient with her when they first met and even took the time to walk her around the store to make sure she felt comfortable. She was barking a bit when we left and I still felt nervous about leaving her there. But she was done in about 2 hours and when we picked her up, she seemed in high spirits and ann said she was nervous at first but got better. We have been taking Ollie to Ann's since 2018 when he came into our lives. I saw very positive reviews from yelp and decided to give her a try. I am a very protective dog mom and my husband is very picky on hairstyle! We had to make a few adjustments in the beginning (mainly about the length cut) but after talking to Ann, she really listened to us and gave Ollie the perfect cut each time afterwards. I have been to other groomers in the past with my previous dog and sometimes she would get nicks here and there. Since I have been doing it myself til I tried this place so tired of dealing with it and things got busy with work, I have no idea how other places do it. I am very happy to write a very positive and honest review of Ann's Pet Grooming from my last few years of experiences with this establishment and share it with my fellow yelpers. It's also a rebuttal for Suzzane B.'s 1 star review as it upsets me that there are some really idiotic people in this world that expect the world should treat them like a princess. First of all, my own honest review of Ann's Pet Grooming. I have an 11-year-old and 3-year-old Purebred Maltese (Betty and Tessie) which I try to give them the best care in the world. Daily exercise, hours of playtime, and home-cooked meals are given each day so you can imagine the love given to our babies. Choosing a Grooming shop was one of the hardest tasks since most of the grooming shops area was enclosed and away from the customer's view so I was ecstatic to find Ann's Pet Grooming with its openness. I can actually watch as they work from the waiting area, which is a huge plus. I've been around animals (all sorts) for over 40 years so I have a very good judge of people by how they are around them. Not only Ann's skill as a groomer exceeds my expectations but it's how she handles around our pet. She tends to speak very softly during her trimming putting them to ease but it's how she looks at them with unconditional love. In all honesty, during my first visit, I was not impressed with Ann's lack of being conversive with me but later realized she's really shy around people. She's just very soft-spoken by nature. I'm just one of the thousands of happy customers and also shows it on a large amount of happy customers with positive reviews on yelp and would vouch for Ann's expertise so when I see some stupid review with very limited knowledge just makes me upset so I'd like to take my own time and set this person straight without keep making a fool of her self. From Suzzan'e review, 1. States that "the girl (Ann) sitting on a stool in the cleaning area, giving me a very less than happy, unwelcoming look". (Are you frigging kidding me? So you expect Ann to get up from doing her job and run to you with open arms and thanking her for gracing the store with her presence? And just how can you tell that her "very less than happy look" behind their masks???) 2. States that "she showed me a record of my dog's card, where it says that he needs to be muzzled to clean him." "She then brought me a muzzle that I was supposed to put on my dog, and I half-heartedly tried, but then quickly decided that we were leaving." " I told her that he never gets muzzled at the other place where I take him" (This person should not own a dog. Don't expect your dog is such a sweetheart that it will never bite or nip at someone he/she doesn't know. It's like telling people that their Pit Bull is very safe so it's ok to let it play with your 5-month-old baby. If Ann showed you a dog card with a remark stating that it needs to be muzzled, it's probably because from the previous visit, A) They were bitten or B) Hyper-Active so it's primarily used to calm them down so it doesn't hurt itself. 3. States that "She (Ann) then brought me a muzzle that I was supposed to put on my dog, and I half-heartedly tried, but then quickly decided that we were leaving. I told her that he never gets muzzled at the other place where I take him, and that he didn't smell good, anyway, the one time they did happen to give him a bath. (I really showed her, didn't I!? Hahaha!) (What are you, 8 years old?? REASON THAT ANN BROUGHT YOU A MUZZLE IS SO THAT YOU CAN PUT IT ON SO IT WOULD GIVE LESS ANXIETY AND STRESS TO YOUR PET!! Over the years of visiting different shops, I've seen groomer hit, punch, throw and water board during grooming. Ann was the only place that actually asks the owner to place the muzzle if they feel that it can make it more comforting for the pets. JFYI, muzzling is not a chokehold on your dogs. It's sometimes used to calm the dog down so it' doesn't hurt itself. 4. States, "In closing, I would like to say that I could understand muzzling him if he was aggressive and bit people, but he's never bit anyone. He's definitely going back to Celebrity Paw Spa where they are actually happy to see us, they don't muzzle him" Are you affiliated with Celebrity Paw Spa?? So you are going to a place with mediocre reviews with charging more for the service? Suzzane, do your self a favor. Next time when you decide to bash an establishment, try and read what others (over 200 positive reviews) says about this place. You will constantly come across reviewers about Ann with these key phrases.. "haven't found a more compassionate groomer like Ann" "My dog has had back injury and she is very gentle with her and notates my dog's disability on her card so the other staff know" "owner is very kind" "Another amazing job by Ann's grooming!" This groomer is awesome! My appointment at Petco got cancelled and I didn't find out until I arrived at the store! This was a long drive for me so I decided to call around to ask local groomers if they had walk-in grooming available. Ann's was the only groomer I called which made an exception and welcomed my business (I only did this because I was in a pickle, please call to make an appointment). When I arrived I was attended right away and so warmly! Before my very anxious dog, Jolene, was taken the groomer made sure she felt comfortable being handled and I greatly appreciated that. I received the call to pick Jolene up in a timely manner and I could tell she had been looked after so well! Jolene's tail was wagging like crazy and the groomer was so courteous to both of us. Jolene was also given a little bag of treats and a bow to wear home Customer service is fantastic here and the price is also amazing for a seemingly small shop. My friend had recommended this place after I had a horrible experience with a previous pet groomer. I called and made an appointment with some lady. I'm guessing the person I spoke to is Ann. She sounded pleasant and I was able to bring in my dog the following Saturday. When I brought in my dog, Ann was super nice and you can tell she really likes dogs so that was very comforting to me. She said he would be ready in 3-4 hours. A few hours later, Ann called to say my dog was ready and when I went to pick him up, everything was fine. She gave him some treats and was playing with my dog too. The prices were standard. $45 for a medium sized dog which is what I'm used to paying. DON'T BRING YOUR DOG TO THIS PLACE - EVER! I brought my dog here last week after having brought her here 2 times before and feeling pleased with the service. This time, I dropped my dog off, and after not getting a call for over 4 hours (which is unusual here) went to pick her up. She was in a back cage (also unusual) and when Ann brought her out, she let her run and then asked me if I had "cut the hair on her face before we came". I didn't understand and asked her why, but she just repeated the question and then got down on the floor with my dog and held her. It was at this time I noticed part of the fur under my dog's right eye was completely gone. The older man came out of the back at this time and started speaking to Ann. I bent down and picked up my dog, seeing that a 2" patch under her eye was missing and the skin was inflamed. The man started gesturing as if her fur had been ripped out. Ann, still smiling said that she came in that way and they were wondering if I had "ripped her hair out"! They said they didn't do it but she came in that way - and she did not! Being accused of hurting my dog was over the top for me and I took her to the vet right after, where the vet said her fur had been ripped out, probably due to eye leakage making the fur matted and instead of working at washing it, they just ripped or cut it away - all the way to the skin! She had to take antibiotics to prevent infection. Ann just kept telling me they did not do this - but then she told me I didn't have to pay for the service! I would NEVER, EVER come here again - and I would tell everyone else to do the same!! Your dog is NOT safe at this salon! read more

I went to Ann's Pet Grooming based on all the 5 star yelp reviews they received. I brought my puppy in and I was extremely nervous since my puppy doesn't do well with strangers. I brought him in and the employee said he will be done in two and a half hours. I came back and my puppy was in a cage whimpering. I picked him up and he seemed pretty scared. I asked how he did during the grooming and the employee said he did great (even though he didn't look too happy). She then mentioned to me if I had noticed that my puppy had a hot spot on his belly. I check my puppy's body regularly for rashes and bumps and he was perfectly fine when I dropped him off so the news of a hot spot was shocking. I asked the employee if she was sure it was a hot spot and she said she was. It looked like razor burn to me. Today is the day after his grooming and the "hot spot" has shrunk down to half its size. Wouldn't a hot spot keep its shape and size if my dog continually bites it? Also, my puppy is an indoor dog so a "hot spot" seems suspicious. I would not have been upset if they had just told me they accidentally cut my puppy but do not try to pass it off for a "hot spot." Also, I had read that first time customers receive a blanket for their pets. I only received one after I asked about it as I was on my way out the door. All in all, I do not think I will be back here again and I will continue my search for a trustworthy groomer. read more
