This hip cafe is located in downtown Artesia, NM near the Veteran's Memorial. The service was nice enough and very efficient in getting orders out. Lots of seating and I liked the lighting inside... not too bright, not too dim. They sure know how to make a good latte here. The Zia Latte ($5.90 for a 16 oz) consisted of "cayenne + cinnamon + cloves + cardamom + ginger + nutmeg + honey." It's so heartwarming and delicious. One of my favorite lattes in all of New Mexico! My daughter opted for a hot cocoa ($3.60 for 12 oz) and a house-made blueberry jam muffin ($3.80). I did not try the cocoa but she said it was "so good" and they made it to her liking, kid's temperature. The muffin was fantastic. Order at the counter. Pay. Take a number. I went to register 3, the clerk was talking to another clerk, she turned to look at me, turned back around and started talking to her again. My friend I was with had to ask her if she was open and she said ya I'm open. By that time, I had already left. I then went to the self check out and proceeded to check myself out. The clerk that was manning that area walked off, no problem, however I ran into an issue and needed her help, but she was nowhere to be found, so we had to go find someone else. When she returned, I had another issue with scanning up an item. She told me it was because my friend picked up a bag before it was time, yet it still would not let me continue ringing up my item. She walked over with a terrible attitude and repeated what she already told us and told me there was nothing she could help me with that it had to fix itself. This stores customer service is awful!!! Its a shamebecause I really like the deli and a few other things I can't get anywhere else, but I dread going in fear of how I will be treated.

Their points system has been overhauled and made more difficult to receive customer service for points specifically. The management bullies and belittles some of the checkout staff that are merely trying to work, not a good example to set in Carlsbad.

When I asked if they could make a turkey croissant that wasn't on the menu, they simply said, "No problem!" That kind of flexibility goes a long way. The green chili turkey panini was just okay. The green chili didn't taste particularly fresh, and the yellow mustard wasn't really my thing. For such a cool and unique coffeehouse, I'd love to see the food menu get a little more creative. Overall, a great atmosphere and friendly service make Stellar Coffee worth a stop, especially if you're looking for a comfortable place to hang out with a good cup of coffee.
