SERVICE here has never been quick, but today was EXCEPTIONALLY BAD. We used the Yelp Waitlist to get seated, which was long but as-expected. We were seated on time, and that was the end of the positive experience. The server came 5 minutes after seating to take our drink order, and we placed our food order when the drinks came at 15 minutes. After that our server came to the table just ONE time over the next hour. 20 minutes after being told our food was "next" in the kitchen, we asked for our ticket. 10 minutes later - OVER AN HOUR SINCE PLACING OUR ORDER and still sans ticket - we dropped a few bucks on the table and left. This is unacceptable, and we won't be back. read more

Not that this will matter because it is one of the few breakfast places in T- Town but my breakfast and experience on this glorious Sunday was awful. I get it gets busy and that the servers run around but to have a server who seems to dislike her job, taking it out on her customers , does not work for me. The food was sub par as everything came out cold or Luke warm. The eggs Benedict was hard boiled rather than poached , the grits were icy, the pumpkin waffle was missing its special butter and pecans, etc. when I asked for the special butter it was brought in an icy clump. After a two hour wait I would expect a better experience. The manager did his best to accommodate but the server became rude and angry for our complaint. Well, I will give it to them for consistency. At breakfast today, our server was somehow friendly yet inattentive. A coffee refill was offered close on the heels of coffee being served -- and they are up there with McDonald's in serving HOT coffee -- and then never again. A request for a refill yielded eventual results, except the server noted that the coffee was far too light and had to return inside for fresh cups from another pot. At $2.79 for coffee, pretty underwhelming. Our food -- a salmon benedict and a traditional scrambled eggs -- took 25 minutes to come out, which is what I've come to expect here. No wonder people end up waiting so long for a table! My eggs were ok, but the bacon was overwhelmingly greasy, the potatoes needed salt, and the English muffin was basically not toasted at all. And you know what's not really very good? An untoasted English muffin. The bagel on the husband's plate was similarly lukewarm at best and completely untoasted. The server never asked how our meals were, so I pointed it out to her when she finally cleared the plates. She apologized and offered me an English muffin to go, but given the glacial pace food comes out of that kitchen, no thanks. She also reported that she had spoken to her manager, who had supposedly told the kitchen, but clearly there's no care or quality control here to begin with. So once again, you're paying for the view and nothing more. And you know what, you can bring your own coffee and sit by the river for free, which is what I'll do next time. read more

Hands down the best southern food to be found in Tuscaloosa! Had an order of shrimp and grits just the day before in downtown Birmingham and it didn't come clean to this dish of shrimp and grits. Every single bite was delicious, not too thick nor too spicy with sufficient shrimp that were a decent size and most importantly fresh. The pancakes needed some butter but that's my personal preference. Coffee was being continually refilled by their kind and attentive waitstaff, and it was served in their branded coffee mugs while it was fresh and strong. Strongly recommend that you try their spin on beignets, which was barely enough to split between 4 people. Kid friendly atmosphere, modern decor with appropriate rustic flairs that match the theme of this charming yet spacious restaurant. If the weather is pleasant be sure to opt for the outdoor dining experience. My only complaint is that this restaurant does not exist in my home town! read more

Perfect place for brunch close to the University of Alabama Campus. They are reasonably priced and delicious. I had the shrimp and grits mildly spicy dish but amazing. I snagged a few cubes potatoes from my brother and tried the waffle it was amazing. I definitely recommend going with a friend and splitting a sweet dish with the shrimp and grits. If you go to this location on the weekend, you will not get seated unless you use the Yelp app for the waitlist. We arrived at 9:45, and were told the wait would be 60 minutes. After 90 min, we were told that 7 parties were ahead of us because people who are using the waitlist on Yelp are seated first. Also, empty tables stayed empty for 15-30 minutes while the Yelp waitlist folks arrived. After 2 hours, there were somehow 15 people ahead of us. I saw the list with my own eyes. I raised my voice to the hostess... we were seated. An hour later, our food arrived. Everything seemed tasty, but after 3 hours, I think shoe leather would have been delicious. This is only my 2nd negative yelp review ever. And it's not even that negative because I don't like doing it. BUT this place needs a reality check. I understand long brunch waits but an hour and 45 minutes for a table of 2??? We saw many larger parties seated before us unsure why. And if you're going to tell us it's a 60 min wait then it should not exceed that time. On top of that, it what another 30 min for our food to arrive. The food was good, I was pleased about that but not sure the food made up for the horrible service. Tuscaloosa needs some more brunch spots so it will force ABE to get their act together. I stopped in during a work trip for breakfast. The restaurant sits right on the river and where we were seated had a spectacular view. The food was just okay. Not bad by any means, but nothing to rave about. I ordered the Peach Cobbler Pancakes. They were basically their regular buttermilk pancakes (at least they tasted that way) with peaches (they were too firm), granola, raisins, and whipped cream on top. The dish missed the mark on the "cobbler" part of peach cobbler, and as a girl born and raised in the south, you come to expect southern staple dishes to taste as authentic as possible. These missed the mark and tasted nothing like Peach Cobbler. We also ordered the biscuit beignets and they were AMAZING. They were crispy on the outside and soft in the center. They were served with an orange marmalade that really complemented them well! The service was good and the coffee was plentiful... I even bought one of their cute coffee mugs as a takeaway. From March: I am the president for a UA alumni group. Over the past few months we have been working with the restaurant to schedule an important brunch meeting. We confirmed the reservation one week prior with management. Upon arriving an hour early and being looked at like I was crazy I was handed off to a manager (red headed guy) who bled incompetence before he even opened his mouth. His first words were "I don't know...". After I made the situation clear and showed him the email we used to confirm, his response was "We must not have written it down." He did propose a solution to provide us an area that would not accommodate our numbers with no telling how long of a wait which was not a solution at all. Sheer incompetence. Got a table outside with a beautiful view. I ordered a Bloody Mary and it had a very sweet flavor to it. The drinks were pretty expensive for the portions (pictured- each were about $9). I'm a vegetarian so I ordered eggs Benedict without the meat. They didn't have potatoes so they gave me tater tots which were honestly the best part of the meal. The eggs Benedict didn't have enough sauce to cover the English muffin so much of it was ate dry. Husband had the chicken and waffles. He was not a fan. It came with chipotle honey to put on chicken and waffles that didn't quite go with it. The waffle wasn't Belgian more like just a regular waffle.
