We stopped here while driving through Tuscaloosa and seeing the University of Alabama - which is just down the road. It was June of 2020 - during the pandemic- so we were looking for a place with plenty of outdoor seating and they definitely delivered. They have a large back patio with a great view of the river. It also connects to a river trail so we took a wonderful walk after breakfast. Overall, a beautiful setting. The service was excellent, very prompt and polite. The food was so so. We've had some good meals here - mainly in the summer on Sunday mornings when the students were gone and it wasn't so busy. But today was awful. My wife asked for chai tea and they were out(!?); so she settled for black tea. Waitress brought her a cup of hot water and asked her what kind of herbal tea she wanted(!?). Wife then asked for unsweetened tea - presuming they would bring it heated up in a cup. They brought her a tall glass of tea with no ice(!?). She asked them to put it in a cup and microwave it - which they did. When our orders came, her omelette and my scrambled eggs(2? It looked like one small, pitiful egg) were barely warm; the fried potatoes were room temperature, so we sent them back. Cost of this wonderful meal - nearly $40 with tip! A small glass of OJ was $4.99! We could have had the same - and better - HOT breakfast at Waffle House for about $12. Never going back. Overpriced, undercooked, underwhelmed. read more

Probably the absolute best lobster omelet I've ever eaten. Fluffy eggs folded over a rich Brie cheese topped with chives and diced tomatoes in a champagne butter. It was amazing. While I like running yolk, I do not appreciate running egg white. Two fried eggs undercooked and cold. Cold. It had an onion type stew. Cold. Unfortunately, I'm not quite sure if I want to come back after today's experience. First off, this restaurant is a dog friendly establishment. They allow people to bring their dogs to sit outside on their lovely back patio. I have brought my dog here a few times and have never had an issue with signing in for the reservation. We typically come here for brunch over the weekends and really enjoy the outside atmosphere. Well, today when I walked through the door with my dog, the hostess was incredibly rude to us. Our initial encounter was her panicking because the dog was inside. Mind you, the dog wasn't roaming the entire restaurant. He was standing 5 feet from the door for a total of a few minutes. She seemed a bit overwhelmed already and was complaining to the other hostesses that there was a dog inside and she was having to deal with that. I'm sorry, but if you can't handle a hostess position at a restaurant, then you're probably not going to make it very far in life... She made it seem like it was the end of the world because my dog was standing in front of the hostess stand. Again, we were nowhere near people's tables or food.... Let me just make a point here, if you're going to be a dog friendly establishment then every employee needs to be thoroughly trained on how to act towards costumers who come in with their dogs...or just don't be dog friendly. Easy as that. At the end of the day, my dog wasn't the problem. It was a hostess who doesn't understand how to do her job. She made me feel unwelcome just because I had a dog. We ended up going to Five restaurant downtown and guess what? They greeted me and my pup with warm smiles and great food! Even brought out a dog bowl full of fresh water for him! The procedure for reservations is poor. They think they are high tech with the check in but it stinks. We signed in when we were 11 minutes away when we got there they said we were late! Go figure. Now the wIt is 70-110 minutes. Really.? We had breakfast here yesterday and it was very good. I had the special crawfish and shrimp omelette. It was outstanding. Only criticism is English muffins were not toasted well. But we are back today Will try something different and post another review Ok don't mean to bash this inefficient reservation system. Wow, this new restaurant in Tuscaloosa is awesome. We went right before the lunch rush on a Monday, so it wasn't crowded. We were seated at a window overlooking the River. Awesome view. The coffee is delicious, and served in a very special coffee cup with a Bear Bryant logo, and Tuscaloosa, Al engraved on it. (Gotta get me one of these cups) Our server was attentive and personable. Our food arrived in a timely manner, exactly how we ordered it, and hot. My dining companion ordered the Gravy and Biscuits. It came with country fried potatoes, sausage patties, and eggs made exactly to order. I ordered the Popeye Skillet, loaded with eggs, cheese, spinach and bacon. This order came with Country Fried Potatoes (served extra crispy-just like I asked for) and english muffins. The meal was a little pricey, but the food was abundant, the view was stunning, and the service was par excellence! Oh....and thank goodness: NO SMOKING! We will be back. It was pretty close to closing and they were very gracious about seating and serving us. We sat outside and had a lovely view of the river and the trail below. It took a while for someone to wait on us - maybe because we were the only people outside and the server for that area had already left, but after about 5 minutes someone came and took our drink order and said they would get a server out. We both ordered sandwiches - I had the portabella sandwich with potatoes and she had the veggie burger with potatoes. My friend ordered a side of steamed vegetables and I ordered a side of cheesy grits. The food was really good, and since I've eaten at other ABE locations before I knew it would be. The portion was generous - I saved about 1/2 of mine to take home. It was my first time trying grits and they were divine! The cheesy grits were so creamy and flavorful, I almost licked the bowl clean. Our server was very friendly and competent, I only take one star off because we waited several minutes before being greeted. I would go back for sure, and the outside seating area is lovely. I really enjoy coming here when I'm super hungry. Although they have heavy food items like pancakes and French toast... They also have healthier options (which I'm super happy about because I'm a health nut). I usually order the rolled oats with fruit and I ask for the oats to be unsweetened with a side of honey. Hmmm... Also- their coffee is really strong! Which is good cause if you're anything like me, caffeine doesn't phase me in small doses. MY ADVICE: go early! We've eaten here twice and had great experiences both times. It seems that most of the bad reviews that have been posted on Yelp relate to poor service. However, our servers were great both times. Yesterday our server was a young lady from Connecticut. She was very efficient, friendly and attentive to our needs. There was a long line when we arrived but we were seated in less that 15 minutes at a window table with an excellent view of the river. Two of us had pancakes and the others had eggs, etc. The quality and quantity was excellent. We will return. read more

Looked on Yelp and saw this place was near UA and food looked delicious. So many places near UA seem to disappoint this Maryland girl but not this place. I requested a seat outside and we had a wonderful view of the water and even saw UA rowing team! Menu was simple but enticing. We got a fresh cinnamon roll and it was ooey gooey goodness! I could've had that with the fresh coffee and been satisfied but no. Spotted sweet potato pancake on the menu and of course I had to try it. Let me state I've had sweet potato pancakes at various places and can say Another Broken Egg HAS THE BEST! You can see the pureed sweet potatoes every time you cut into the pancake. When I say it was good...I'm lying. It was FABULOUS! Had baked bacon and eggs to compliment the pancake and enjoyed every nite! Will definitely come back again when I visit my son on campus. We sat at the bar ordered mimosas first the champagne was room temperature it wasn't cold at all but I sat and watched the bartender make her own drink to perfection while working first of all, I didn't complain because I was thinking maybe she needed it since it was close to closing time. Then my food comes out it didn't take long at all but everything was cold. I ordered the Brie omelet and city grits, so I was going to settle with the omelet and I let her know my grits were to cold instead of bringing me another bowl of hot grits she said let me see grabbed my bowl and took it to the back and warmed them up and brought the same bowl out that I had already stirred and ate some out of I didn't think that was sanitary to take the already eaten grits to the back and bring them back out to me. read more

Our waiter, Daniel, gave a glowing endorsement if the shrimp and grits and they were not a disappointment. They readily made substitutions without additional charge.
