I've been going to Midtown Eye Care for years and after my last frustration with the poor customer service I received there, I decided to try someplace new! Since I workout at LA Fitness Ansley, I pass by Ansley Eye Care all the time. Joel D. also knows Dr. Gupta and for those two alone, I was already sold! I arrived at my appointment and had the opportunity to check out the space and talk to the employees. Everyone was attentive and friendly and are very good at selecting a good frame for you! The space was very clean and modern and I loved the new equipment and the Mac computers! They have a fantastic selection of frames with many different brands and styles. When I got to meet Dr. Gupta, my first impression her...AMAZING! She is really really friendly and very good at what she does. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND COMING HERE! I left very happy and even got a new pair of glasses that I love and will wear more on a daily basis! They are sooo hot even Lauren S. says I look like a hot professor! Alright, so I had been going to Midtown Eye Care; even after reading the not-so-glowing reviews on Yelp. I should've listened to the fellow Yelpers out there -- when it was time for my annual check-up I went back to Yelp to see what I could find. I am so glad I came across Ansley Eye Care! Needless to say, friend Joel C. had already given her a glowing review back on 8/5 of this year. I went in with high expectations and they were met! Dr. Gupta is very thorough and discovered that 1) I was being overcorrected, thus making my eyes work harder unnecessarily, resulting in frequent headaches and 2) removed the unnecessary correction for astigmatism in my right eye. The selection of glasses are great and I walked away, well after I went back and picked them up, with a new pair of Oliver Peoples. Nerdy chic...me like. I'm from Atlanta, but live in Miami; but I come home to visit every few weeks... My significant other still lives there, and so my life is still tied to this city. I had just lost my glasses, and my BF needed contacts. He is on my insurance, so I called Monday, and got back-to-back appointments the following day; before I had to fly home. I must say, I was astounded by Dr. Gupta's staff and their service. They quickly processed our insurance info, and within 5 minutes had assessed my vision benefits. Within 10 minutes we were in the exam room, and this was the most comprehensive eye exam I have ever received. Dr. Gupta informed me I had astigmatism, in my 12 years of wearing contacts and glasses, no one had ever detected this. She identified two things that my BF should monitor as he gets older, which no one has ever told him either. She knows her stuff, she's cute as can be, and just a pleasure to talk to. As for the staff, they take customer service to new heights, so polite and just happy to assist. I decided to get glasses, and they were well educated on the pricing and benefits of all products in the store. I ended up selecting a bamboo 141 Eyewear, a hipster brand of eyewear for whom they are the exclusive carrier in the state for. Check out this brand if you want something no one else will have. Also, they said it would take 3-5 days for my glasses to be ready... My glasses were ready next day! Overall, my BF and I made appointments 5 minutes before they closed on Monday, for the next day. They had us in and out of there in under 45 minutes; I thought it would take about an hour and a half. The location is super convenient, clean, the staff is amazing, and Dr. Gupta is just wow. They have a great selection, and I am loving my new look. Though I am in Miami for the time being, Ansley Eye Care has made a permanent customer out of me. read more

The only downside I've encountered was when I purchased new frames it took about a week to receive them back with the lenses (I don't believe they're able to work on frames/lenses in the office). I loved this place! I normally dread the hassle of the eye doctors, but this place was amazing from the start. When I called to make the appointment, the person on the other end of the line was super personable and gave me plenty of scheduling options. When I arrived, I was greeted by a very friendly staff. Start to finish, I didn't have to wait at all. The doctor was very informative and taught me so much about retina health and migraines, a big perk! The sales associates were patient with me and helped me find the perfect frames and helped me do the math to determine the best deal possible (they even helped me look up competitor's prices on Walgreens and whatnot). All in all, so glad I made the choice to come here for my appointment. My glasses and contacts will be ready by the weekend :) read more

Dr. G and her shop are tops! As a newbie to the whole glasses scene (20/20 finally faded... le sigh), I was pretty anxious about the whole process. Dr. G was fantastic. So relaxed and cool, but it is OBVIOUS this woman is smarter than your average bear. Love that. She helped me understand my family's history of eye issues, what I need to be cautious of, and how to fix these tired eyes of mine! I was instantly impressed. The glasses selection was like dessert with a huge cherry on top. The selection at Ansley Eye Care is insanity. Pure insanity. So many great brands. So many options!! All fashionable and of the current trends. I was easily persuaded to go big or go home and purchase some Tom Ford's. Not cheap, but that's what health savings accounts are for, right? The staff here is top notch. I loved my experience. I will be back!! Can't wait to get the next pair next year and expand my new glasses collection. So fun. read more

The doctor was nice, but they refused to fit me in my existing contact brand. Apparently they get a kick back from the brands they promote, and the ones they put me in were horrible. Then they denied my purchase of the contacts I previously wore from an online retailer, even though they had provided the prescription. They stated that "they couldn't approve because I hadn't been fitted for that contact type/brand." When asked if the contact brand would change the prescription, they said "no," but that I'd need to come in and pay for a re-exam if I wanted different contacts. This is a scam and not one that I'm willing to take lightly. I've filed a BBB complaint. read more

Patient Beware! Six months ago, Dr. Gupta advised me that I needed expensive contacts due to the deterioration of my eyesight. I had to pay for a full year's contacts in advance. They were $1000 (over double the cost of regular contacts). These special contacts were a nightmare from the beginning. I couldn't see in them even though I tried different versions for several months. Finally they switched me back to my old contacts, which are great. Problem is I've now paid more than double for my old contacts and had a huge hassle. All they offer me now is a $135 credit at their store, which would hardly reimburse me since I had to buy a year supply! Even worse, because Dr Gupta scared me about my vision, I went to a real eye doctor who told me that what she said was incorrect. So while they may be nice when you are in there, save yourself the long run hassle and see a real eye doctor. read more

I was very happy w the selection of frames. However, they make you pay for frames / lenses upfront before they validate what insurance covers. So potentially you could overpay $200. Dr. Gupta and her secretary husband, Rob, are crooks. For all patients that had issues with Dr. Gupta and Rob, call the Georgia Board of Optometry and your eye/medical insurance and file formal complaints. That is the only way you can hit them where it hurts. I saw this "Dr" because she was within my eye and medical insurance plans. When I made the appointment, I opted to use my vision insurance. When I came in for the appointment, the staff kept on commenting on how great my medical insurance was. I kept hearing comments like "You have the Cadillac of medical insurance, so we should bill that instead of the eye insurance." This was very unprofessional and annoying. I told them that my eye insurance was more than sufficient to use for this visit. And I would rather use the medical insurance for a visit to real doctor (i.e. - Ophthalmologist), if i ever needed one. When I saw Dr. Gupta, I told her I was a lifelong contact lens/glasses wearer and had dry eyes due to weather changes. She wanted to check my eye pressures but instead of using eye dilation drops and a slit lamp (gold standard), she wanted to take a picture of the back of my eyes with a camera. I used to work in an ophthalmology office, and told her I know technology has advanced but I had never heard of this. She reassured me the camera was safe, but there was an additional fee (~$100) to use it. She said that I could bill my medical insurance (which might cover the camera), or pay out of pocket since my vision insurance didn't cover the procedure. I told her I appreciate this but would rather use the gold standard, which is free and covered by insurance. Dr. Gupta got annoyed and pushed even more, but I firmly told her I was not interested. She said that was fine and she can do the dilation after my exam (which never happened). When I brought up the dry eyes, Dr. Gupta said I can do eye drops, but she recommended inserting plugs into my tear ducts. Again, I told her I had never heard of this. She told me it was perfectly safe, the tear plugs are made of medical grade silicone, and said she had the procedure done by showing me. However, I was annoyed by her low cut shirt though and the silicone enhancements she had elsewhere. Again, I told her I was thinking more along the lines of eye drops. Again she said that my medical insurance might cover the tear plug procedure (~$600), and eye insurance would not. I was getting very annoyed with her and told her I was not having that procedure done. Now I felt like I was at a cheap car dealership and not a professional optometry office. I told Dr. Gupta that I was only interested in the eye exam at this point. She was frustrated and rushed through the eye exam. After quickly looking at eyes, she told me I had narrow angles in my optic nerves. I knew this was indicative of narrow angle glaucoma and asked her what my eye pressures were. They were normal and well within the healthy range, so that told me that I did not have glaucoma. I questioned her diagnosis, and said if I had this condition, why weren't my eye pressures higher, or why was I asymptomatic. She could not answer this but told me she needed to switch gears and do her workup as if I had glaucoma. So now I had to use my medical insurance since I had this "condition." At this point, I told her I wanted to stop the eye exam and speak to her office manager because of all these red flags. I also told her that if I had narrow angle glaucoma, then this condition should be diagnosed/treated by an Ophthalmologist, not an optometrist like her. She got upset and told me to leave. I left and complained to husband secretary. He was very unprofessional sided with his wife. Then, I received a claim from my vision and medical insurance! I immediately called and filed grievances. Both my insurances were clearly troubled by what they heard. After they investigated, my medical insurance denied Dr. Gupta's claim, and my eye insurance said they would cancel the offices claim as well. The eye insurance said that the office would refund my $10 copay and to see another provider. So I did see an optometrist who took my eye insurance, and an ophthalmologist who took my medical insurance. And guess what...I did not have narrow angles, nor any indication of acute narrow angle glaucoma! Each specialist was shocked that Dr. Gupta would say this and try to peddle extra unnecessary services on me. After a few weeks, Dr. Gupta's secretary husband, Rob, called me to "apologize." It wasn't sincere, but I needed to come into the office to get my refund. I went there and he handed me my check, and Dr. Gupta was a coward hiding behind another patient. I did say out loud how horrible their office was, and I told Dr. Gupta that she lied about me having glaucoma. I took my refund check and left. Since my insurances rectified the issue, I did not complain to the Board of Optometry, but I should. This office needs to learn a lesson! read more

Ansley Eye Care is the best! My appointment was for 12 and i came in early. It is very clean and the staff was amazing. They are so welcoming and funny.I have VSP insurance and I came in skeptical. April greeted me and reassured me that I was in good hand. I told her that i wanted options and that is exactly what I received. I did my exam for contact and my eyes were great. I was given a pair of contact and i went to chose my glasses. I loved how everyone was helping me to find the right pair. I love that. The prices with my insurance were great. i paid a little over $200 for the exam and glasses out of pocket. I seriously doubt you can get that anywhere else. I cant wait to get my glasses in 10 days! You guys I really recommend coming here. If you cant afford it they can work it out for you! read more

Great Experience! The staff was friendly and provided great customer service. I called and spoke with April to scheduled my initial appointment. She told me about going to their website to print the form and complete it prior to my visit. This was such a time-saver! I arrived early for my visit and didn't have to do any paperwork, so I browsed at the frames. I gave Rob an idea of the style I wanted and he ran with it. The choice was between 3 pairs and the other employees provided their opinion. I was in customer service heaven! April administered the initial tests on the various machines and explained what each entailed. Then, I had my eye exam with Dr. Gupta which was very informative as we discussed a plan for getting my eyesight stronger. (I should have been in glasses over 3 yrs ago, but kept putting it off.) Rob ordered my new glasses which took about 7 business days to come back. I'm wearing my specs now as I type this review. :) I will be returning! read more

I went here yesterday to shop for some new glasses frames thanks to all the glowing reviews from my fellow Yelpers. The place is very cool, with a great selection of modern and stylish frames. No old man glasses here. I found a pair of frames that I loved, but then I was hit with the reality of shopping for glasses in Ansley Mall. $555 for the frames alone! I was totally bummed out because I loved the frames, but I just couldn't bring myself to pay that much for a pair of frames. Unfortunately, my insurance sucks, so I would be paying for most of the price out of pocket. The staff was totally understanding and helped me find something a bit more reasonably priced. I went to numerous glasses stores in-town shopping for frames, and Ansley Eye Care had the best overall selection of frames with character. This was the only place that I had trouble narrowing down my choices because there were so many I liked. I highly recommend this store for glasses, but hopefully you have better insurance than me, which will help get you a more reasonable price. read more

Hooray for simple eye care! And eye care that takes my insurance! I hadn't had my eyes checked in probably 6 years, so I knew I was long overdue. I was able to call and get an appointment within the next few days, and Mike was very helpful on the phone and pre-checked my insurance to be sure I was covered. Dr. Gupta was awesome - professional, but not scary, and so so helpful in picking out frames. They have a great selection, and didn't rush me in choosing. The office is super convenient - no parking issues (since it's in Ansley Mall), and very easy to find and get to. My only complaint is that I had to call them to follow up about when my glasses would be in. But, they made up for it. The first time the glasses came in, Mike told me he sent them back because they weren't done right. I should start by saying I'm a big fan of most things desi (Indian). Being new to the ATL, I am looking for new doctors. I looked up Ansley Eye Care and saw that it was run by Dr. Gupta. Score 1. It was conveniently located to where I work and live. Score 2. Dr. Gupta was really cool, professional, knowledgeable and very patient-focused. Score 3. The staff was very honest when I was choosing my first pair of glasses. Score 4. (Although, I'm not giving a score for the fact that I had to get glasses!). She is Canadian. No score! But, that's not such a big deal to warrant 4 stars... I guess. Considering that the doctor's office and optometry store are 1 in the same, I thought I might be pressured into getting glasses, but Dr. G was not pushy at all. I dont know how a place can be so friendly! I only wish I could rate this place a 6, but Yelp has placed limitations, and I, a mere reviewer, must follow those limitations. The staff here greeted me with the utmost appreciation when I walked in the door. They all were polite and courteous with every aspect of the appointment. Please choose to come here over anywhere else. They are the nicest eye doctors I have ever been to, and I get around! One thing you must know is that if you are picking up glasses here, you do NOT need to bring your boyfriend/girlfriend/spouse/ or partner. The staff her was amazingly helpful in choosing a pair of glasses that fit me perfectly. Mine are stylish and very very attractive. I just finished my first ever experience buying glasses. Choosing Ansley Eye Care was a great decision. The staff was helpful without being too pushy when it came to choosing frames. I felt like they had my best interest in mind when helping me. My experience at another eye glasses store in Midtown was much different. Since I'm new to the Atlanta area, I depend a lot on reviews. My husband and I recently moved back to Atlanta from Seattle. Ansley Square was always a welcoming place, so we headed to Ansley Eye Care for our optical needs. We immediately felt like we were home. Reena completed our eye exams -- truly warm and engaging. Jake and the showroom team took over from there, listening to our likes, and bringing dozens of pairs. Loved their subtle and professional feedback. What a selection! And Reena's husband, Rob, who is part of the Ansley team, introduced himself. Like everyone there, we enjoyed his candor and warmth. He, along with the whole staff, made the afternoon delightful. We selected cool styles (Matsuda for me) and they came in timely. We stopped back, and enjoyed an upbeat day as the team made final adjustments. The truly phenomenal moment happened today. I noticed one of the arms appeared to had a slight flaw, and thought it needed an adjustment. Jake and Whitney carefully looked at the frame, and without a blink, replaced the entire frame. I have been a patient here since shortly after they opened in 2008. Dr. Gupta, Rob, and the entire staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. They always work with my insurance and budget to put me into products that I love at prices I can afford. I never feel like they're trying to "upsell" me anything. Doctor is really nice, and so is the staff - that's where the positivity ends. With my insurance, I'm not supposed to have to pay for my yearly eye exam. But this place finds ways to nickel and dime you. I never leave without paying at least $100! They charge you to "try on" a pair of contacts after the exam, among other things. Their hours are also atrocious - not everyone wants to have to wait until 10 am to go to the doctor. The final straw is the fact that they're now closed for Christmas for like five days. This normally wouldn't be an issue, but it just so happened to fall right when I need contacts. I ordered them, got an alert that they're in, but had NO warning that they were shutting down on the 21st until after Christmas! I get everyone needs a break, but it stinks when people depend on you to see, and you decide to take a week off. Had I know I wouldn't be able to get my contacts, I would've for sure gone somewhere else. I'm done with this place. read more

Disappointed beyond measure around my experience there today. I find it very disturbing that a patient would be billed for something other than the service they request. Its totally unacceptable to disclose to a patient on the way out that the service they received has been coded as "medical; a true " bait and switch; increasing was is owed. To add insult to injury- no remorse after their intent was challenged. No business gets to say how i spend my resources, especially without being informed. I waited far too long to get an eye exam and fate stepped in and broke my glasses over the holiday weekend. Terrible. I had been putting it off for a myriad of reasons, but mostly the fact that I hate having my eyes dilated. When I found out that Ansley Eye Care could skip the dilation I was pretty much sold. I called and got an appointment the same day (which was great considering my predicament). As soon as I arrived, everyone was very welcoming and totally normal. I got really excited and started trying on frames immediately. Dr. Gupta and her husband were suggesting options and helping me to narrow down my favorites. The eye exam was super easy and it felt as though I was talking to someone I had known for far longer than 15 minutes. This was hands-down the best experience I have ever had. The optometrist (Dr Gupta) diagnosed an age related medical issue with my eyes when having a routine eye exam at her office recently. I wanted a second opinion and saw an ophthalmologist at Emory Eye Clinic soon after. After performing a comprehensive eye exam, the ophthalmologist at Emory said there was currently no indication of a medical issue with my eyes and everything was normal for my age. The doctor said the only issue with my eyes was a need for vision correction due to myopia (nearsightedness) and hyperopia (farsightedness). I cannot recommend Ansley Eye Care. read more

Once again, the best service I've encountered with any appointment. If other offices ran their business like this one, they would be packed. This is the second pair of glasses I've purchased here in the past year. Each exam has been thoroughly explained and they don't try to sell you something you don't need. The quality of the glasses and lens are exceptional. I've tried "discount" eye-care places and yes, you do get what you pay for. Horrible. That pretty much sums up my experience at Ansley Eye Care. I was examined there and given the wrong vision prescription. I purchased glasses elsewhere and they were worse than uncorrected vision. After reordering the glasses and getting the same results, I had the glasses checked with a lens meter and they were made according to Ansley's prescription. I took them to Ansley to ask about it, showed Rob the prescription and the lens meter results and was given the brush off. Ultimately I obtained another eye exam from a different doctor and discovered that the original Ansley prescription was to correct nearsightedness and the second exam showed I was actually farsighted. Even worse, they didn't even get the degree of nearsightedness correct - their prescription was for -1.75 and the prescription I needed was actually +1.25. So I returned to Ansley to show them they'd made an error and to request compensation for the useless glasses I purchased because of their mistake. Rob wasn't there but the person on duty pulled a copy of their prescription to compare it to the new one I received from the second eye exam. Amazingly, Ansley's prescription had somehow changed to +1.75! Things that make you go, HMMMM?? Unfortunately for whoever changed it, Ansley's original prescription was so far off, the change still didn't result in the correct prescription. So to sum up, wrong prescription given, mysterious change in prescription after my complaint and then refusal to reimburse me for glasses I can't use due to their incorrect prescription. I suggest you avoid them like the plague. read more

I am just one more Yelper giving Ansley Eye Care the coveted five stars on Yelp. I feel that paying the $400+ for frames and lenses is onerous, given that the unjustifiable markup is contributing to the health care inflation that is hurting this country. As a result I decided my next eyeglass purchase would be online. My girlfriend purchased her frames and prescription polycarbonate lenses with anti-reflect and UV protection online for less than $60 with shipping and taxes. I was determined to achieve similar saving results. In order to purchases glasses online, you need to obtain your Pupillary Distance (PD). I tried to ask Pearle Vision and Target Optical for my Pupillary Distance (PD) in the past, and they refused to give it to me unless I bought glasses from them first. They also made me feel that I was foolish and naïve for considering purchasing glasses online. Then I realized that all these chains (Sunglass Hut International, LensCrafters, OPSM, Laubman & Pank, Budget Eyewear, Pearle Opticians, Pearle Vision, Surfeyes, Sears Optical, Target Optical, K-Mart Optical, Cole Vision Care, ICON, and ILORI) that discouraged online eyeglass sales and provided poor customer service were all part of the Italian eyeglass conglomerate Luxuticca http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luxottica. The reason Luxuticca chains don't want you to buy glasses online is because they want to protect their eyeglass margins and near monopoly on the eyeglass market. They are not in the best interest of consumers, especially those with limited means that need prescription glasses. Luxuticca retail store representatives state that you need their lifetime adjustments and eye care advice... but I disagree, especially if you are one of millions that don't have adequate eye care insurance or a job. I forgot to enroll in my employer's vision insurance plan. Therefore I needed to pay for my vision exam and eyeglasses out-of-pocket. I quickly realized that any eyeglass chain, especially any Luxottica affiliated chain would hinder my ability to purchase glasses online, so I decided to give the independent eye glass locations a try. The first and last place I called was my neighborhood eyeglass store, Ansley Eye Care. I told Ansley Eye Care that I did not have vision insurance this year and that I needed a vision exam with enough information to purchase glasses online. I was happily surprised when they informed me that this was not a problem and that they would charge an extra $15 for the PD. They also informed me that they would adjust glasses purchased online for $35 per pair. I felt this was fair given the time and knowledge they are providing. What really impressed me though was Dr. Reena Gupta's knowledge of eye conditions. I was born with a congenital eye condition, and appreciate an eye doctor who takes the time to properly examine my eyes. Their prices are not the cheapest, but you get what you pay for. Dr. Gupta is the best eye doctor that I have met in a long time. She is very knowledge and has great connections in the medical field related to eye issues. Pearle Vision, LensCrafters, Wal-Mart Optical, and Target Optical, which I used in the past, pale in comparison to the attention , testing, and information that I received from Dr. Gupta. Your eyes are too important to neglect. I am not stating that you should go see Dr. Gupta, although she is good, but that seeing an independent eye doctor such s as Dr. Gupta is worth the additional investment if you have any serious eye concerns. I look forward to getting my eye exam from Dr. Gupta next year. Ansley Eye Care sells eye glasses, and they have a good selection of high-end designer frames, but given that I was determined to purchase my glasses online, I did not research them. I should also state that buying glasses online is not for everyone. It requires a lot of time to do proper research. For those that prefer a higher level of service and are less price conscious, I am sure that Ansley Eye Care could hook you up with nice frames. I am not even sure if Ansley Eye Care supports online eyeglass purchases, but I am just happy that they are ok with putting that choice in the hands of the consumer. That alone is worth five stars. I have been going to Thomas Eye Care for over a decade. After my wife and son had such great experiences at Ansley, I gave it a try. The service is 10 times better than Thomas. They are very attentive and get you "in and out"-- seriously my entire appointment lasted half the time. More importantly, Dr. Gupta diagnosed that my prescription was "over prescribed". It's never fun to have an eye exam and know that every year your getting closer to the dreaded bifocals. This year was no exception. I've been wearing contacts for 12 years and decided this time I'm going to spring for a pair of cool designer glasses. I must say they look great. The entire staff was awesome! Hilarious and fun to work with. The Optometrist was young and very informative, I really enjoyed this place and would recommend it to anyone who might be a little apprehensive or skeptical about the eyes! read more

I checked reviews and asked opinions about Ansley before I made an appointment but it turns out most people who write glowing praises are probably the ones who had decent experiences there. Unfortunately, I am not a member of that clique! While I was waiting to go back for an exam, the front staff was friendly, even gushing over (socially) some of the patrons but they chose to speak me only when they wanted information. I know they are not my best friends and probably knew those customers longer but a little civility would have been appreciated. The person checking my eyes did not instill very much confidence and the next act lessened it even more. She said she was done and I could leave and come back in about a week. I told her I wasn't seeing well from the dilation and she advised it would wear off in a few minutes. When I stepped out their front door, the bright sun almost totally blinded me and I had to feel for the door to get back inside. It was only then they suddenly remembered I should not go out for a bit without sunglasses. (I had not planned on having dilation and had not brought mine inside.) The final straw was when I ordered contact lenses from their written prescription. When I had picked it up earlier, I noticed the prescription was the same for both eyes even though vision in one of them is much sharper than the other. I questioned this and the young woman at the desk said she would ask about it. She went into the back and was out a few seconds later, saying it was correct. I did not quite trust this but decided to do as they recommend. I now have 6 pairs of contact lenses with the wrong correction for my right eye so I cannot see well with them. I had to go to someone else and pay again for a check-up in order to get this error corrected. All I can say is shop at your own risk, ask questions, and do not let them brush you off with flip answers! read more
