I got estimates from at least 5 pool builders but Anthony & Sylvan won me over with their designer Robert Stewart and his boss Jim. Chris Whitlock was my Project Manager and we created a group text to ensure I was kept in the loop. They still answer my questions within moments and my pool has been completed for 6 months now. Chris told us it would take 10-12 weeks to complete and they did it in eleven. I've read my share of bad reviews but none of them applied to my experience. And there was no price gouging. We were told from the start to find our own landscaper or we would incur a 10% up charge. Devon held our pool school which we video taped and we learned everything necessary to maintain the pool ourselves. We get compliments from everyone that visits and Anthony & Sylvan even took promotional photos of our pool. I'd definitely recommend them to anyone looking to build a pool and I'd use them again if we move back East.

Their tactics include delaying fixing problems for so long and forcing they now claim I'm out of warranty! "As per the contract terms, Anthony & Sylvan Pools warrants that the interior finish of your pool will be free from defects in materials and workmanship for one year from the date original application" Seriously I can't make this up. As you can see from my updates this has all been documented. Contractor Board time. Can't let this happen to other people.

Just had a pool finished and couldn't be happier with this company from start to finish. Excellent communication, efficient workers, and superb job. Skye, the project manager, was excellent to work with and sent so many detailed progress photos along the way. I would highly recommend using this company to have a pool built. their prices were also very competitive and all inclusive versus nickel and diming of other pool companies.

If I could give Devon 100 stars I would he was the best PM ever. He stayed on top of my new pool build from beginning to the end. And Ian was also amazing to work with he designed my pool. Thank you both for all your help. Your new friend for life Yvette

An amazing experience from concept to completion. Bob Mertel took our concepts and ideas and designed us an amazing back yard pool and spa that we have enjoyed ever day. Ian Lopez, our project manager was truly amazing. Although we started and completed 3/4 of this project whilst still living in Chicago, his communications, problem solving skills and regular updates made us feel like we were actually there for the whole process. What:- 11'6'' x 25' salt water pool with Jandy wireless equipment and a 400,000 btu gas heater. Pool depth 3' 6'' to 5'. Wet Deck 6' 6'' x 9'. Spa 7' x 5' 6'' with a 42" depth. 2 descent water fixtures on the pool side. 305 Sq Ft of Spray Decking Around the Pool. Marblite Plaster Interior Pool Finish.

What: 12' x 24' rectangular shaped pool with wet deck with umbrella hole, seat in the deep end and PebbleTek (blue). SprayDeck in antique white. Super simple, no spa, no heater and no child fence. Pool goes 3ft to 5ft. We have a small backyard, so we wanted something modern and simple and low maintenance. This is our first pool. Price: $35k. We looked at other vendors, but some didn't show up to meet (Blue Haven) and some were crazy expensive (California Pools). We chose A&S for 3 reasons: they did our new community pool, they did our neighbor's pool, and they have been in business for a very long time with positive reviews. We had a good sales experience with Bob Mertel. He was a straight shooter and his design rendering was spot on. Timeframe: Since we hadn't closed on our new build, we were able to coordinate a "Dig and Hold" with a $5k deposit in October 2017 so that they could get the big CAT in there before our neighboring wall was constructed. We re-started our project on December 2017. Things went extremely fast. All was done in about 7 weeks. Every time they said that things would take 2-3 days, it took 1 day and time in between each vendor was quick, like the next day. There weren't huge lag times. You don't need to be home for much of the process, which was great since we weren't living in the home yet. Service: Our sales guy was Bob Mertel, our Project Mgr was Rich Norgan and our Scheduler was Jason Camponella. Communication is an area for improvement. Since we weren't living at the home yet, I wasn't aware of when things were going to happen or had already happened. When we met with Bob, they talked up their great software that updates clients about the progress, however this was a major fail. If I got any email updates, it was always after the fact or I didn't get an email at all. I just got good at anticipating when things were going to happen and I called Jason a lot. Jason gave me access to our schedule, but it was not up to date and did not have actual dates on them to let me know when things were scheduled. So this was useless and very disappointing and frustrating. However, I have to note that Bob and Rich were always very responsive to my calls and texts and I never felt that I was left hanging or out in the dark. Tip: Like any construction project, YOU need to supervise each phase because there are lots of different vendors in play and no one person is standing there supervising them - excavation, plumbers, electrician (lighting), plaster, concrete (deck), pool start-up and ongoing maintenance. You need to check in and make sure they are doing what you originally ordered, because there is a lot of opportunity for instructions to get lost in translation. We almost had a situation where the concrete guys thought they were doing stamped concrete but we ordered SprayDeck and they were working off some old plan. So you gotta be like, "so...you're doing SprayDeck, right?" No biggie, just know you can't be completely hands-off.

In that time: * The heater has failed twice (and is currently not working again) * The chlorinator has been replaced * The pool lights have been replaced twice * The silver quartz finish already looks stained and bleached Maybe some of this is poor Hayward Industries equipment, but it's hard to know because the service tech changes constantly -- about every 6 weeks -- so there's zero accountability or continuity. This is a saltwater pool, yet instead of properly diagnosing or maintaining the chlorinator system, they routinely dump gallons of liquid chlorine into the pool every week. Actual "service" often feels limited to: * Emptying the leaf basket * Lightly brushing the pool * Adding chemicals And nearly everything beyond that becomes an extra charge: * Chemicals? Extra. * Filter cleaning? Extra. * Repairs? Extra. * Someone coming out because the system they maintain stopped working? Extra. Worse, many of the techs seemed unfamiliar with how the equipment even operates, making service calls frustrating and unproductive. What really bothered me was adding up the actual cost over three years. Once you include all the side charges, repair calls, chemical add-ons, and maintenance fees, the true cost is easily several times higher than the advertised "weekly service" price. The marketing and online reputation look polished, but our real-world experience has been expensive, inconsistent, and lacking accountability.

However, over the years, we have had them return multiple times for recurring cracks. Each time, the repair involved filling the cracks, which unfortunately did not appear to resolve the underlying issue, as the same cracks kept returning. Earlier this year, I contacted Doug and again regarding the same problems. I was told the cracks were likely due to seismic activity. Based on our observations, we are not convinced that is the cause. Additionally, there is currently a metal piece protruding from the side wall they built, along with other issues. We have documented these problems over time with photos and emails. After raising these issues again and requesting further assistance to address the underlying problem, we did not receive any additional follow-up communication. Because of this, we are now exploring other options to resolve the issue. Overall, while the initial build experience was positive, our experience with follow-up repairs and warranty support has been disappointing. I am sharing this so future customers can be sure to ask detailed questions about warranty coverage and long-term repair solutions before moving forward.

He was truly a pleasure, and he made the install process absolutely seamless. I had about five other companies come out to quote us. His quote for the install was great and it fit within our budget, but it was his professionalism and warm authenticity that sold us. Every crew that came out was respectful of our property and exceedingly efficient. We actually hired his last crew to put in some additional pavers and rock to complete the yard. All the big companies on Yelp and other review spaces must pay a fee to show up at the top of the pool builder list because if quality, customer service, attention to detail, and professionalism were the only considerations when deciding which companies are highlighted on review sites and apps, then Bill Relaford and the whole Mission West crew, would most certainly earn the top spot. Give them a try if you are in the market for a pool. You will be doing yourself a huge service!
