I hadn't been to this place in years but we went on Christmas Eve for lunch. It wasn't too crowded and the restaurant had tons of Christmas decor! Our server was awesome - she was attentive, friendly, and didn't rush us. We had the meatballs for appetizer, the chopped salad and the Pauly's Pizza. We were disappointed in the meatballs - they used to be much bigger in size and have more flavor. The sauce with the meatballs was very good, great flavorful and the perfect texture. Ordered garlic knots and an eggplant pizza for take out, got it home totally burnt. The garlic knots looked like pieces of coal and the crust on the pizza was black and the bottom of the pizza was burnt. Unbelievable someone let that food leave the restaurant. I've had take out from here before and have been satisfied, but two days ago was the first time I ate inside the restaurant. On Wednesdays during the summer, they have amazing deals on the Tito's lemonade cocktails ($5) and large cheese pizzas ($10). All of the food and drinks were amazing and our waiter Brandon was extremely nice. Reading some of the reviews on this place, i was a bit confused as to why people complained about the char on their pizza. It COAL FIRED, meaning there's gonna be some blackness to the crust. I came in on a Saturday busy afternoon right before the holiday. I sat at the bar my typical place to sit. The bartender immediately gave me a glass of water with lemon and she was very attentive. For starters I ordered the Mike's Hot Honey wings blend of Sweet and spicy, served with focaccia bread. The wings were mouth watering delicious highly recommend. I also ordered Meatballs & Ricotta pizza which was delicious as well. The pizza was thin not too doughy with the right amount of sauce. I had high hopes Anthony's coal fired pizza, however I was left a little disappointed. I ordered the White Pizza, and the wings. The pizza was over priced and lacked any white pizza flavor. Now I know this is coal fired pizza but the burnt taste may have taken away from the true taste of the pizza. The wings were just okay. I have heard rave reviews but they did not live up to the hype. All I really have to do is post a photo of the bottom crust, which I will do below, and you will understand the complete horror show that this so-called "pizza" is. But I'll expand on it because there were several other problems as well. First of all it was about 95 degrees outside and humid as can be. We walked in and the air conditioning was barely working. The hostess said it was partially broken and very weak. We decided to stay anyway, because we had no plan B. We get seated at a booth. The booth seats have giant rips in them, allowing the filthy stuffing to be exposed. Gross. We order one Blue Moon (which was warm,) three diet cokes, one salad that supposedly "serves three to four," and one large pizza. Despite the gross seating and warm beer, we try to make the best of it. The salad arrives without the promised kalamata olives, which was the whole reason we ordered that particular salad in the first place. Without the strong flavor of the olives, the salad was extremely boring and uninspired. The waitress explained that they were out of kalamata olives. Even though the salad was missing this key main ingredient, they charged us for the whole salad. The salad portion was just enough for three people to have one small serving of salad apiece. Then the pizza came. I will keep it simple and say that the crust was disgusting. It was wet on the bottom and not one area of the entire pizza had any crunch to it whatsoever. It was also flavorless. It was clear that these crusts are definitely not made fresh. They are most likely pre frozen, defrosted, and sauced in advance. It was soggy, mushy, pasty, gummy, and awful. Please see the photo of a section of the "crust." The photo shown is the bottom crust from the middle portion of the pizza. You can see how it flops over my finger like a wet rag. Even the edges of the crust were damp and flavorless. I can't believe that this place has any good reviews at all. After the horrible meal, we went to Ritas and bumped into a group of people who had come into Anthony's while we were there, and turned around and walked out because the air conditioning was so weak. I mentioned to them about how bad the pizza was, and he said that the broken air conditioning makes everything damp, so that it's impossible to get the drust crunchy in those conditions. EW! Something has changed and it's not for the better. Have loved this establishment for a long while. Consistency is no longer. Maybe it's still better in the restaurant but takeout/delivery is now terrible and you have no recourse. Just got a pizza half burnt to a crisp - char is fine but burnt like it was on fire, not - and also half under cooked. How does that happen? Whoever put that into a pizza box knew it wasn't right but did it anyway. Shameful at this price point. I'd rather wait another 20 minutes than pay so much for something inedible. Also ordered a large caesar (and you know their salads are LARGE) with chicken and got 4 tiny pieces of chicken. Please get it together Anthony's! read more

Yikes. Usually get my yearly birthday 12" pizza from here and went recently for one but the bottom was full of uncooked flour it was all I could taste. Also ordered garlic knots and they were soaked in oil. Do they even coal fire pizza anymore? It tasted microwaveable. Sad because my first few experiences I really enjoyed this establishment! We had a FANTASTIC date here tonight. Neither my husband or I have ever had Anthony's Coal Fired Pizza before so when we heard many great reviews, we were eager to try. Our server, Samantha was such a gem. Super friendly. Samantha asked if we had ever dined with them before and we said no, and we're going back & forth on appetizers - she put together a sampler for us including the wings & garlic knots we were debating. She even included a meatball to try. It was so lovely to be taken care of. We opted for the garlic knots for the appetizer. We also chose a 12" traditional cheese pizza, & 12" traditional pizza, add thick pepperoni. The pizza was GREAT. We had such a great experience here, between the service & food. Was told that @anthonyscoalfiredpizza had the very best Chicken Wings in #Delaware. So I flew down and checked them out. They were good, I mean not great, but good. Not fall off the bone good. While in Delaware I did find the best chicken wings though.. (future post) These wings were coal roasted and caramelized in onions. You kinda had to push off the onions to see the wings. Until recently, these were the only chicken wings they offered. They now have a 2nd flavored wing (without the onions) they call it dry rub number 2. That wing right, that wing was amazing! Little sweet, little salty with a little bit of heat.. that new flavor is perfect. I also got to meet one of my cousin for the first time who happened to be visiting DE at the time. I ate dinner last night at Anthony's with some friends. This is a regular dinner stop for us. Last night was a considerable change in our usual experience. I can cover most everything by noting how long it took, incorrect order delivery, and food quality. The primary food order took an extraordinary amount of time and was not filled completely and correctly. Even getting carry home boxes took over 20 minutes. When paying we asked for a single check but when brought to our table we were told that had to be communicated earlier. Our orders were not unusual at all but our usual food order. This is not what we are used to and am documenting our experience. Here's hoping our next visit will be back to our usual experience. read more

Poor Quality. I have been going here since they opened and in the past year have been there 4 times. All poor quality. Don't know what's going on but I ordered a half sausage and half large olive and arugula. This is what I got. Granted the arugula is on the side but almost no olives on this. Hardly no sausage on the other side. I also got another pie that was pepperoni and olive that was just as bad. Check out the crust! Are they now making crust less pies? What the heck. It looks like they broke off the ends. I spent $47.98 for 2 pies with hardly no toppings on them. It's been this way for the past 4 visits. Not going there anymore. I don't mind paying for quality but put my toppings on that aren't cheap too. So disappointed and tired of paying for nothing special. As I try more and more restaurants local to Delaware, I realize that the 5 star reviewers have probably never been to the west coast or left this area a day in their lives and it helps me sleep better at night. The pizza is pretty consistently burnt but I kind of like that.. we usually get the carnivori pizza and I pick off the meatballs bc they were good the first time but when being honest with myself and you, they taste like mush and unless piping hot (which they never are despite the actual pizza being hot) are just a bit too much for me. The white pizza was very good. Actually, speaking of, this particular establishment is very.. white. And don't get it twisted, Mr. S in these comments is also a 50 yr old white dude.
