Anthony's Italian Restaurant, remsen st. cohoes was a great find and a wonderful meal on a cold winter Sunday evening. Fresh warm Italian bread served with balsamic and oil, with pesto was offered to us to start, along with a small salad bar. The housemade maple dressing was tasty. Only small issue is there was several salad dressings available and nothing labeled, so it was a guessing game, as they appeared to be short staffed and no one nearby to ask. No problem and I didn't take a picture. Next, we started with the Greens appetizer and oh man, I'm glad we ordered the small. Delicious, flavorful, and enough for 2! Easily one of the best versions I've had in this area. My dining companion had the haddock florintine and it was deeply enjoyed. Huge portion. Cooked perfectly, tender, and great flavor. I went with the chicken Francese over tagliatelle and it was delicious. Cooked perfectly, great portion, flavorful, and the fresh pasta was . Served with Brussel sprouts, that were also delicious and well cooked. $5 to add fresh pasta. Our server, Lonnie was a superstar. Very personable and kept us well taken care of. It seemed she was running the whole place, and the dining room was 1/2 full and alls I witnessed seemed like smiles all around. We were too full for desserts, but they had a case and everything looked delicious. Dinner for 2, with a drink and appetizer, $72 before tax and tip. Extremely reasonable and great value and especially since we both took home more than 1/2 our entrees. Highly recommend and I will return.

Enjoyed a wonderful dinner tonight at Anthony's Italian Restaurant Cohoes food was delicious, with the Lasagna, Chicken Carbonara, and Chicken Supreme for entrées. Service was a great. The server did a fantastic job, and was right on top of everything. The flavors were robust, and the plates were well-portioned. Definitely will heading back soon!

We came here Christmas week. It was very rainy and unfortunately there was a leak in their new roof, which made for a bit of noise but it was OK. I felt sorry for them. They managed it best they could. They are in their new location on Remsen Street and it's a very nice restaurant. We started with the calamari. There were a lot of peppers of varying degrees on the plate, which I've never seen before at other restaurants, but they gave the dish an extra kick. The calamari was delicious. I got the Vongole. The clams were in small white shells and they were very tasty and plentiful. Served with fresh warm bread and their very tasty pesto, balsamic and olive oil. They even wrote an "A" with the balsamic. Mmmm My dinner mate got Alfredo with angel hair pasta which was a big huge bowl. In my opinion Alfredo doesn't go on angel hair (his choice) but he ate the entire bowl so it was apparently delicious. The service was friendly and fast and we had a good time!

Found this place by accident...staying close by for the weekend and was looking for somewhere for dinner. I ordered the chicken parm...with fresh pasta! Generous potion size and absolutely delicious. Very happy with my selection. My friend ordered stuffed shells and was also very happy with her meal. Our waiter was extremely attentive and helpful. He helped me chose my pasta for my main meal. I am glad we found this place.

Anthony's was recommended to us by friends. I'm always willing to try new places. The ambiance was nice, very homey and intimate, but the ladies were very chilly inside. Since it was a Tuesday evening, it wasn't very busy and hence the server was quite attentive. Drinks arrived in a timely fashion. Our orders were taken and so we waited. Warm Italian bread arrived soon after with a wonderful olive oil/pesto mixture, this was delicious. The appetizers arrived soon after that and they were plentiful. I ordered the calamari prepared with peppers. It was very good but the peppers overpowered the calamari. For entrees my wife ordered lasagna which she thought was very good. Im not a fan so I cannot speak firsthand. I had the clams and pasta. The pasta was very good but quite salty, maybe from the real clams. The portions of both entrees were quite large. For dessert we split the cannoli cake, which was nice but I didn't seem to find much cannoli cream. All in all Anthony's was a very good dining experience, but as a transplant here in the Capital Region, I am still looking for that Italian meal that WOW'S me....I am still searching.

So restaurants are coming back. (Yeah) We decided to try a new place, at least new to us. Cohoes is close to our residence and a place we haven't gotten to know yet. Calmari was crisp and delicious with a number of tentacles. (My favorite!) The antipasto was so beautifully plated I almost hated to dig into it. Bread delivered with oil, balsamic and pesto all warm and toasty. A good sign to me, so good. Had the Supreme (specialty dish with veal) which was made from mushrooms, cream and brandy with scalopinnied slices of veal all on top of fresh pasta. You could eat that sauce on a cracker and it'd still be good. Yum, yum. Parking is on the street or the lot next door. Also public parking lot on the next block. Server was pleasant and efficient without being annoying.

Another friend, Pam, had highly recommended Emma Jayne's Restaurant which is only a couple of traffic lights from Trader Joe's - a perfect location for our trip. The restaurant sits just north of Fred the Butcher (next door, literally) for those who frequent that establishment, on Route 9. There is off-street parking. When we arrived at 12:30 p.m. on a Tuesday, the front parking spaces were full. (Note: there may be parking around back; I didn't check) We thought we might have to wait for a table. Wrong! The restaurant is surprisingly spacious with two large rooms furnished with tables that were thoughtful spaced apart. A photo of an adorable young girl, whom we assumed was the dining establishment's namesake, was on the wall. Let me be sure to mention that the ladies room, which smelled faintly of bleach, was spotless. I mean REALLY clean! About the food ... my friend and I shared an appetizer of Fried Calamari. It was an ample portion (took some home) accompanied by sweet chili sauce - a nice change from typical marinara served at other places. However, the calamari was small and overcooked. As a result, what was presented was a plate of small, overly crisp rings of 90% batter. No squid! For our entrees, Barb chose the Chicken Salad Sandwich. She requested that it be served on a pretzel bun (touted as homemade) for which we were hit with an up-charge of $3.50. The chicken salad had grapes and walnuts in it and Barb liked it very much. The up-charged pretzel roll did not appear to be homemade. Very disappointing. Had she known it would be uninspiring, she would have accepted the brioche roll. Macaroni salad - not very exciting - accompanied the sandwich along with a pickle. I love seafood and was torn between ordering the Fish and Chips (halibut) and Lobster Pot Pie (an appetizer). Our server, Drew, gets a gold star for suggesting the second one when I told him I wasn't a big eater. Apparently, the halibut, while highly recommended, is a sizable portion. The pot pie was superb! The rich, creamy sauce was divine. I couldn't eat it all and will enjoy the rest of it for lunch today. Emma Jayne's menu has something for everyone. Our server, Drew, was informative and attentive. While we may make other food choices (skip the calamari and pretzel bun but keep the pot pie), we will definitely return.

Immediate attention from a hostess. Waitress at the table within minutes, pleasant, experienced, just absolutely professional while at the same time being friendly and welcoming. The service alone is worth the whole 5 stars, so how do I rate the food? :) We ordered lasagna, I got the meat, my wife got meatless. Salad on the table minutes after we ordered. Nice salad, nothing fancy, good variety, lots of black olives, some sort of pickled pepper, decent croutons. Meals came within 10 minutes, piping hot, and just from looking I knew I was in for a treat. There was plenty of sauce, and not the thin watery stuff that seems to be called sauce lately. Rich, thick, had a great texture to it, not a bit of oiliness, and there was no orange water seeping out from under the food. You could actually taste tomato, and the spices, rather than just some slightly acidic red taste. Lasagna was a huge portion, actually a double in my mind. I ate until I was stuffed, and had enough left over to do that again the next day. There was sufficient cheese, and the meat was really tasty on its own, nicely seasoned. There is a great selection of deserts, and these days, premium cheesecake at $7.50 is a bargain. They offer tiramisu, which I love, but since I wanted to sleep that night I passed (the caffeine does a number on me now that I am old). I noticed some other reviews whining about pricing. Very hard for people to understand that restaurants are businesses, and they need to charge enough to pay staff, rent, overhead, food, and all the myriad of charges that small businesses have, plus produce enough profit so the owner decides the whole thing is worth the hassle. You want cheap food served? No problem, there are plenty of chain outfits around; don't complain when a premium restaurant charges enough to stay in business. Our two meals were a tad under $44 bucks, including tax. Given the absolute top quality of the food, and the size of the portions, in my mind, the dishes would have supported a extra $5 per. Testo's is for sale, and I hope that if it does sell the new owners respect what they bought and keep the tradition of truly superb food at reasonable prices going. I am amazed that after 40 some years in the area, and having driven by the place on business numerous times, that this is the first time I ate there. Our visit was prompted by a 94 year old relative, EXTREMELY fussy about food and more so about service, telling us what a great meal and experience he had there.

We went to Bellini's in Latham as a party of six. Overall, the food wasn't bad, but it didn't really impress either. Several of us ordered the chicken parm, and while it tasted good, it came with a bit of a surprise. I order chicken parm pretty much anytime it's on a menu, so I've had a lot of versions over the years, and this was the first time I've seen it paired with a cream marinara style sauce on the ziti. It had more of a vodka sauce consistency. On its own it was fine, but it felt a little odd paired with traditional chicken parm. We all agreed it seemed like an odd pairing. Another issue was temperature. My chicken parm itself was hot, but the ziti was inconsistent, hot in the center and lukewarm, even a little cool, toward the edges of the plate. I asked the other people that had ordered it as well if it was just my plate and they said no theirs also was inconsistent. Someone in our group got the stuffed shells and said they were okay, but would have preferred a red sauce instead of the white sauce. Another person agreed with that. The pizza, on the other hand, was a good size and pretty solid. Service was a bit of a mixed bag. Our waiter was friendly and did check in, but the overall pace was slow. We were there for about two hours, and it wasn't particularly busy and we just ordered entrees and two deserts. I'd say it was more on the mild side as far as busyness. the waiter also either forgot or didn't realize that two of the entrees came with a dessert, which we had to ask about. To his credit, he apologized when it was pointed out. Dessert ended up being cannolis and a slice of cheesecake, both of which were tasty. When the bill came, we noticed the total didn't seem to add up. After asking, it turned out gratuity had been included for a party of six or more. That's on the menu in smaller print, we just missed it, so not a big deal, but something to be aware of. The restaurant itself is nice inside, and the tables are roomy, which I liked. It is pretty noisy though, and it was hard to have a conversation with people at the other end of the table. The host staff were also very pleasant. I'd probably come back and give it another shot, but this visit didn't really stand out. 3 stars earned on this particular visit.
