I've been hearing good things about Anthony's for awhile but I didn't think the pictures of food I saw were that exciting. Don't be fooled the food is outstanding. I was also hesitant to try the Alfredo because it is made more authenticity without cream and I enjoy the Americanized version. I decided to take a chance anyway and got the Shrimp Romano with tagliatelle. It was one of the best Alfredo sauces I've had. Service was great also. read more

Dinner before a show at Cohoes Music Hall. Walking in, the restaurant was more casual than other Italian restaurants in the area. It was mostly empty at 530 on a Friday night, service was fine but it seemed to be just one woman. We started off with wine and I was pleasantly surprised at the pour. We decided to start with the arancini. They were as expected, a creamy and cheesy risotto, breaded and fried. They were a little bland, and the sauce was very spicy, which we were not expecting, but was fine. The bread brought to the table was very crusty, maybe stale, the pesto dip was nice and the cute "A" in the balsamic was a nice touch. We then moved onto our entrees which were great portions. I ordered the Veal Francese. It costs an extra $5 to put this over pasta, for a $25 dish. So to my understanding, this dish is $25 for a piece of veal in a sauce and a half a cup of zucchini ... that doesn't make sense. Just include the pasta in the price. But, the pasta was great. You could tell it was made in house and had a great texture. The sauce was a thickened lemon/wine/butter sauce. The flavor was great but it was a little goopy. It was thickened with something like cornstarch as opposed to being reduced. There are many notes here, but it was a perfectly fine dish. I took half of it home and enjoyed it later after the show. My friend ordered the sorrentina, which was chicken and eggplant. She loved the dish and it was enormous, I did not sample it but it looked great. This is just a run of the mill average Italian spot. The parm cheese offered for the dishes was a flavorless shaker brought to the table. If you're looking to be impressed, maybe not the best spot, but if you're looking for a quiet dinner to catch up with a friend, why not! read more

Anthony's Italian Restaurant, remsen st. cohoes was a great find and a wonderful meal on a cold winter Sunday evening. Fresh warm Italian bread served with balsamic and oil, with pesto was offered to us to start, along with a small salad bar. The housemade maple dressing was tasty. Only small issue is there was several salad dressings available and nothing labeled, so it was a guessing game, as they appeared to be short staffed and no one nearby to ask. No problem and I didn't take a picture. Next, we started with the Greens appetizer and oh man, I'm glad we ordered the small. Delicious, flavorful, and enough for 2! Easily one of the best versions I've had in this area. My dining companion had the haddock florintine and it was deeply enjoyed. Huge portion. Cooked perfectly, tender, and great flavor. I went with the chicken Francese over tagliatelle and it was delicious. Cooked perfectly, great portion, flavorful, and the fresh pasta was . Served with Brussel sprouts, that were also delicious and well cooked. $5 to add fresh pasta. Our server, Lonnie was a superstar. Very personable and kept us well taken care of. It seemed she was running the whole place, and the dining room was 1/2 full and alls I witnessed seemed like smiles all around. We were too full for desserts, but they had a case and everything looked delicious. Dinner for 2, with a drink and appetizer, $72 before tax and tip. Extremely reasonable and great value and especially since we both took home more than 1/2 our entrees. Highly recommend and I will return. read more

We came here Christmas week. It was very rainy and unfortunately there was a leak in their new roof, which made for a bit of noise but it was OK. I felt sorry for them. They managed it best they could. They are in their new location on Remsen Street and it's a very nice restaurant. We started with the calamari. There were a lot of peppers of varying degrees on the plate, which I've never seen before at other restaurants, but they gave the dish an extra kick. The calamari was delicious. I got the Vongole. The clams were in small white shells and they were very tasty and plentiful. Served with fresh warm bread and their very tasty pesto, balsamic and olive oil. They even wrote an "A" with the balsamic. Mmmm My dinner mate got Alfredo with angel hair pasta which was a big huge bowl. In my opinion Alfredo doesn't go on angel hair (his choice) but he ate the entire bowl so it was apparently delicious. We dined at Anthony's this evening with two of our dear friends. Matty D was their Friday night entertainment, singing American standards. For dinner, one friend dined on Chicken Sorrentina and the other enjoyed the special--Italian Wedding Risotto(mini-meatballs, carrot, onion, spinach, risotto and shaved parm). My husband ordered the Chicken Romana and my dinner was the Chicken Milanese. All chicken meals were served with a choice of fresh pasta: two of us had fusilli and one selected rigatoni. All of our meals tasted fantastic! Anthony's chefs take great care in preparing dishes that are made using fresh high quality ingredients and packed with flavor. Each meal was large enough for us to bring some home. Alex, our waiter was friendly, attentive and professional. Great food, great service and great entertainment. When we arrived, no one was available to seat us. My wife scouted the place and eventually found someone. Once we found some one service was okay, but entrees arrived at the same time as salads. We both had Chicken Cacciatore. The dish had a few pieces of dry chicken. Pasta appeared to be prepared earlier and was stuck together. Sauce was almost exclusively tomato, with a a few sautéed onions and no apparent seasoning. There are many better Italian restaurants than this in the area. Not recommended. read more

Found this place by accident...staying close by for the weekend and was looking for somewhere for dinner. I ordered the chicken parm...with fresh pasta! Generous potion size and absolutely delicious. Very happy with my selection. My friend ordered stuffed shells and was also very happy with her meal. Our waiter was extremely attentive and helpful. He helped me chose my pasta for my main meal. We had a delicious meal here on a cold, January Friday night. This restaurant was close to The Venue, where we had just attended a candlelight concert. We did not have a reservation but, needing just a table for 2, we were seated quickly and our waitress, though busy, was sweet and attentive the whole evening. The live music was loud for our liking so we were very glad to be seated away from it. Our meals were delicious. From the bread with pesto and olive oil to the cannoli for dessert (at home later because we were stuffed!), it was a delicious endeavor. The homemade pasta was perfect and the sauce was rich and tangy. Prices were very reasonable for this region. If you're in the area this is a great choice. It might even be worth the hour drive from home to eat there again! We recommend the cavatelli . read more

Anthony's was recommended to us by friends. I'm always willing to try new places. The ambiance was nice, very homey and intimate, but the ladies were very chilly inside. Since it was a Tuesday evening, it wasn't very busy and hence the server was quite attentive. Drinks arrived in a timely fashion. Our orders were taken and so we waited. Warm Italian bread arrived soon after with a wonderful olive oil/pesto mixture, this was delicious. The appetizers arrived soon after that and they were plentiful. I ordered the calamari prepared with peppers. It was very good but the peppers overpowered the calamari. For entrees my wife ordered lasagna which she thought was very good. Im not a fan so I cannot speak firsthand. I had the clams and pasta. The pasta was very good but quite salty, maybe from the real clams. The portions of both entrees were quite large. For dessert we split the cannoli cake, which was nice but I didn't seem to find much cannoli cream. All in all Anthony's was a very good dining experience, but as a transplant here in the Capital Region, I am still looking for that Italian meal that WOW'S me....I am still searching. read more

So restaurants are coming back. (Yeah) We decided to try a new place, at least new to us. Cohoes is close to our residence and a place we haven't gotten to know yet. Calmari was crisp and delicious with a number of tentacles. (My favorite!) The antipasto was so beautifully plated I almost hated to dig into it. Bread delivered with oil, balsamic and pesto all warm and toasty. A good sign to me, so good. Had the Supreme (specialty dish with veal) which was made from mushrooms, cream and brandy with scalopinnied slices of veal all on top of fresh pasta. You could eat that sauce on a cracker and it'd still be good. Yum, yum. Parking is on the street or the lot next door. Also public parking lot on the next block. Server was pleasant and efficient without being annoying. read more

I tried to get a reservation for a Thursday evening, but phone went directly to voice mail which was not set-up, no website and they are not on Open Table. Arrived around 6:15, plenty of tables. Met friends at the bar, bartender/server said she would be right back. After 15 minutes of waiting without getting served an adult beverage, we gave up and took our table in the dining room, where we ordered drinks. We sat drinking and chatting for 15-20 minutes and finally flagged down one of the cooks who was walking through the dining room to order apps. Immediately after we ordered the apps, server came to take our dinner order, we deferred, not wanting dinner to arrive while we were having our apps. While we were waiting on our apps another table (of the few tables that were occupied) was served bread and oil. Once our apps came, we requested the bread and oil and water as no one was served water. Our dinner was served about 15-20 minutes after ordering. My veal parm was not pounded, so I was surprised at how tender it was and the breading had a nice flavor. The sauce and homemade pasta had no flavor at all, my entire meal was like-warm. Hubby had mushroom risotto which had no flavor whatsoever and he did not finish it. Our friends rated their meals as okay, nothing stellar. The lights in the kitchen (attached to the dining room) were promptly turned off at 8 PM when they officially close. They were only a few tables occupied during the entire evening. We were completely underwhelmed so We went down the road to Smith's Public House and the place was packed. Every table was full. It was lively and beautifully decorated, and we sat in front of the fireplace and had a nightcap which was the best part of our evening. read more

Sadly i must say. I was disappointed. Having had lovely meals when they were on the other side of Remsen Street. Last evening was a very unpleasant experience. The ambiance was not conducive to having conversations at your table as music from the bar was very loud. The live musician's repertoire was good for a bar area not so much in the dining area. Most of my party was very cold as we were front section of the dining room We arrived at 5:30. Our dinners arrived at our table after 7:00. Not so good for my diabetic friend whose sugar was starting to drop. One our friends asked to substitute vegetables for pasta Ended up paying 10$ for 8 brussel sprouts. Most of my party said food was good. A few thought differently. The restaurant was packed i only saw 3 staff members one was also functioning as the bartender. I had tried this establishment when they very, very first open and found it to be a normal restaurant pretty much standard. The food at that time which was a few years back was good but nothing exceptional. However after not going to visit them for a while as of late, my daughter and I decided to go t his past week and try it. I found the people to be fantastic. The server was excellent. The ambience was nice with one exception evidently there's a dishwashing station close to the dining room and whoever was throwing dishes made a terrible noise in dining room and we're s distracted many times from a great conversation we were in . That being said the food tonight was great. My daughter got Rosita with seafood, which I don't think I could have found a better dish In the city ss. I had spaghetti and meatballs, not knowing that meatball was about a half a pound or better asked for sausage too thinking that it was a normal spaghetti and meatball normally too. I am a stickler for Italian food and meatball exc . The sausage was different. the fact that I found out that he ordered it out of town but very good. The sauce needed more flavor, but good and it did complemented the food. The pricing was within line with most of better restaurants in the city. The only one thing that bothered me being in the food business for 50 years the fact that it's an open kitchen and the chef and others I saw did not wear gloves. It's a big tattoo of mine especially in today's day and age. But all in all, it was a really enjoyable experience of 200% improvement over my last visit and would recommend you to try it read more

I have no concerns about the food. The service was awful. A couple came and went before we were asked for our drinks. The drinks took another 20 minutes. A pour of wine shouldn't take that long. Upon time our food came, one of our parties food was another 10 minutes after. They comped a drink for him, however, when we got our bill I had to take it to the front and they didn't even have a pen to sign. I took it back to the table and used my own pen to still tip 20%. In the mean time the chef stood in the back drinking wine and all other staff ignored us. read more

The food was really good! Tried the chicken Parmesan! I was able to get in without a reservation, and the staff were friendly. The only thing I'd say (which is why they have a 4 from me), is that the building needs some work. Ceiling was peeling from water damage above where I ate and feels outdated. Nice little corner bistro in the once dumpy Cohoes, now kicking and screaming, clawing its way out of said dump, trying to be Albany's newest bedroom community- it has a long way to go but restaurants like Anthony's are leading the way. They must have been without a server the night we visited and stat at the bar: service was painfully slow as the bartender was functioning as the the entire front staff and seemingly only one or two in the kitchen. Food, when it did arrive was delicious. We'll come back again and Anthony's can try to impress, enough for a 4th star maybe! read more

Found this joint and decided to give it a try and I have to say I am glad I did. The service in and of itself speaks volumes but the food was spectacular. Im from Brooklyn where you can find a fantastic italian joint on every block and this truly reminds me of home. Huge portions of quality food, fresh ingredients used in an authentic italian way. Clean and concise 1 page menu which hones in all of their best dishes and exquisite wines. Feel very safe dining here during Covid...all precautions are in place and the restaurant is very clean. For me, the best Italian food outside of Italy is in NYC ... and at Anthony's. This place is an absolute gem!! Love the limoncello cocktail - it tastes like sunshine. The food is amazing. Generous portions, absolutely fresh and homemade. Be very careful with this place, we have eaten multiple times and never had a problem, until 12/16/2022. Everytime the food has been excellent, but....we ordered take out Veal parmesan and carbenaro. The veal was very good but the carbenaro was not edible. It was over the top salty, not edible at all. Called and said no issue with veal but please reverse the carbenaro charge......they did nothing. To reiterate, no problem paying for the veal but they would not reverse the carbenaro charge even after multiple calls. Lesson learned, never order take out from this place. The quality control and customer care is not the same as when sitting in the dinning room. Eat in so you can complain while onsite, otherwise you are screwed as they seem to not care about take out. As an update, called multiple times trying to get this resolved ....no luck. Said I would pay for veal but they just ignored the offer and wouldn't talk to me....even when they said they'd call me back in 15 minutes. No care for the customer, makes me wonder about the food. read more

I am very pleased with my experience! Our server, Dawn, was so friendly and service was super quick. We got our food less than 10 minutes after ordering it and it was delicious. You can tell that they make their own pasta and it was amazing. The ambiance of the restaurant felt very comfortable and welcoming- I felt right at home there! We made reservations for 5 on Friday night. We have been here 1x before but not for a proper dinner.... The table was set and ready for us and we were seated straight away. We ordered the calamari and the garlic cheese bread for an appetizer both were excellent the calamari has a kick to the spice which was actually well done and appreciated. They had a nice craft beer list and we really loved the Adirondack Scottish ale. There were some problems with the mixed drinks in our party ask for a highball and they had problem with the mix on the soda. Otherwise we were served a standard bread and it came with pesto olive oil and the sonic which was lovely which was enjoyable. And I usually skip the bread but this is not to be missed. The waitress Dana was attentive knowledgeable and patient. Two of us ordered the trio sample which was lasagna shrimp scampi and a choice of pasta Bolognese, pesto or Alfredo. Others had chicken Frandsche's for the pasta pasta and the seafood Medley which had a lovely sauce! The one turn off was the state of the rest room. I love the atmosphere, very quiet and comfortable. One of the owners is always there and he sits any talks with us at the bar while we have a couple drinks and wait for our food. There was one occasion where he had an extra Eggplant with angel hair and he just tossed it in with our order. It was during a time where we were getting ready for a big move so it really helped out!! As for the food: The Bolognese is to DIE for, I'm basically always thinking about it. My boyfriend loves the Vognole with white sauce (linguini and clams) and the stuffed cherry pepper app, he has gotten it twice in a row now. The meatballs are also amazing, nice size and come with a dollop of ricotta, which I love. The eggplant is seasoned and cooked perfectly, and there were like 5 large pieces of it, I had to share leftovers! I love this place, I'm always trying to plan my next visit. read more

This place is awesome, I loved it from the minute I walked up to the door and saw the little chandler in the door way, the decor is old school and I absolutely love it it makes you feel so welcome and at home. The food was awesome too, and didn't take forever to come out. I ordered the eggplant parm with the cream sauce, and my boyfriend ordered the carbonara. The eggplant was cooked perfect nice a crispy not over or underdone, the cream sauce was really good and flavorful, the pasta which is homemade was amazing!!!!! luckily I snapped a pic of my boyfriends dish before he ate it in 2 minutes, he loved it.
