I've been wanting to stop by here for a few months now, a few weeks ago a came in 10 minutes before closing for a drink but they said they had stopped service, totally understandable. Fast forward, to this past weekend and I was the first in. First I'll comment on the smell, it was that old rag smell mixed with cleaning products. I sat at the bar and the bartender that was smoking outside rushed in to greet me. The cigarette smoked lingered right on him. I ordered the fried mozzarella, they were good, breading was seasoned and a nice pull on the cheese. The carbonara was okay, the peas were a little hard but the sauce and pancetta were solid. A good pour on the Pinot Grigio.

Been meaning to try this location since we were frequent visitors to their former Benson location and other JoCo locations. Love the upscale ambience of this one. Anthony knows his stuff, so glad to see his continued success Their housemade foccacia bread is as amazing as I remembered. I enjoyed the Salmon Spinach Salad this visit, and viewed the menu choices for future visits. The salad was delicious. Excellent grilled flavor for the salmon. I loved that's not heavily seasoned or covered in Sauces. The other ingredients we're spot on as well, fresh! From the citrus slices to the tomatoes. A beautiful salad. Try this place, you won't be disappointed. Yeah, parking may be an issue at times, but choose your visit accordingly. This sunny Sunday afternoon was perfect. Chef's kiss!

I love a GOOODTTTTT Carbonara! I was pleasantly surprised with this dish as I have never had it with the egg yolk on top of the piping hot noodles which made it so much more creamy, silky and rich! The salty bite of the pancetta was perfect. Should have gotten a second order!

Ordered 6 dishes , none of them came out correct besides one. I asked for vodka sauce, they gave me marinara sauce and wanted it switched. They scraped the sauce off and added vodka sauce to it but you could tell. I don't care but the restaurant is too expensive to get order messed up and not get it remade the right way. 4 dishes were supposed to come with vodka sauce but they gave marinara.

It was extremely hard for me to find parking near this restaurant. I drove around for a while before finding street parking down the street. Once inside, I observed that the restaurant had a nice ambience and was spacious. We were seated right away. All of the staff that I engaged with were kind. Our server, Alex, was very personable. The bread and oil that we were given was good. The rigatoni was fresh, hot, and I got a nice portion size. I just felt like something was missing from it. My food was filling.

Where do I begin. We went here on a Saturday evening and sat at the bar. The owner, Anthony came over to say, "Hello" after our first drink. First of all if you are going to advertise as a top Italian restaurant, you should dress as such. Especially for an owner. Anthony had on jeans, a t shirt, and a black baseball cap. He asked if we wanted another round. He then said ," I don't have Tito's vodka" after we just had a drink of Tito's. Then he said ," Oh, I see it !" Strange We had conversation about where we were all from and started talking about food. Anthony commented that "The people down here don't know good Italian food " We ordered the stuffed mushrooms which were a very good, actually Then we ordered the Veal Scallopini The menu distinctively says Veal, spinach, roasted red peppers mozzarella cheese in a Marina sauce. The picture posted here is what we were served Completely different than the menus description We told, Anthony that it wasn't what was on the menu He came and took the menu out of my hand and said, "Yes it is. Yes it is. It's the same thing. It's a misprint on my menus and I was just having corporate change them " Firstly, if your a privately owned so called ,"Mom and Pop " restaurant you don't t deal with corporate. Corporate of what ? A restaurant ? Also, you don't lie to patrons and tell them it's the same meal or close to it The cheese was by far poor quality mozzarella There was no hardly any spinach and the sauce was a think flour like consistency with not a touch of wine flavoring We told him he should tell his employees when a customer asks for that item they should know it's not what they are getting He then embarrassed the bartender and said , "He don't know food !" You NEVER criticize your employees Let alone in front of customers. We told him he should comp the meal. And he did. As we were leaving he said ," Give me another chance. I swear it was corporate and I was JUST going to change the menus" He proceeded to say, "What are you gonna do ? Give me a two star review. Go ahead. I don't care" We were planning on coming to his restaurant for a while. And his menu NEVER changed. It was and is the same one online. As we walked out the door he said, "Go back to New York !" I have never been in a restaurant where an owner argues and lies right to a customers face Normally, the right thing to do is say, "Your right. I'm sorry. How can I make it better?" People who run an establishment like this with this kind of attitude really need to learn customer service Because I am a foodie and reviews are what I do So you never know who your serving Needless to say we won't be back ! P. S. Patrons, read the owners answer. Obviously he not only lacks customer service, his grammar shown here is the exact unprofessionalism he has.

Amazing food with excellent service! Started off with a glass of Chianti, excellent! For dinner we had the Pappardelle Bolognese, Rigatoni Alla Vodka, and Chicken Saltimboca. All three were great, but the Rigatoni was my favorite with a close tie for the chicken. We ended the night with Cheesecake, which was ok, and would not get again. Overall, the food and service were 5 stars. The ambience was a little mixed for me, fancy, but with a giant TV in the dining room. The prices were a little high, plus they charge 4% to use a credit card in a time when almost everywhere is cashless. Even with those few drawbacks, I highly recommend for some of the best Italian food outside of Italy!

READ THIS BEFORE DINING! Edit: So I chose to leave an honest and straight forward review of Anthony's la Piazza Prime on Google ( See below). The owner of the restaurant chose to try and dispute my subjective opinion of his restaurant, without taking ownership of his lack of leadership and organization. He did this to many other individuals who left a 1 star review due to his poor management on Valentine's Day. Sadly, he did exactly what business owners should not do and blamed the customer rather than take accountability. He stated that the restaurant had "a few hiccups" that is an understatement. During our two hours wait we saw 3 other couples get up and leave. Our waiter stated that "everything was a mess" but never came to check on us or inform us what was happening. Furthermore, he said that he only had 4 bad reviews out of 400 tables. I find that hard to believe. He only had 4 tables that felt the need to leave a review. I guarantee that there are more people than 4 that will never go back. Additionally, he said that my wife and I were rude to his waitstaff, which is a bold face lie! We did not even speak to the waitstaff enough to give them an impression of us. He says he's a nice guy, but sadly his conduct shows that he is not a nice guy. I do not care what ethnicity you are "manners are manners" and this guy has none. I will make it my mission to let anyone I meet to avoid the restaurant at all costs. ORIGINAL REVIEW My wife and I chose this restaurant for Valentine's Day and it was a huge mistake. We arrived for our 8pm reservation and had to wait 15 minutes to be seated. After being seated, without a drink menu, we waited another 20 minutes to get a drink menu and finally ordered drinks. We received our drinks and then waited another 15-20 minutes for bread. At that point we ordered an appetizer and our food and then waited for over an hour and half before choosing to leave because the wait was ridiculous. I was hoping to leave a good review but sadly I cannot. It's frustrating that on Valentine's Day a restaurant cannot handle the rush to be expected by the holiday. We will not be returning or recommending this restaurant to anyone we know. We will tell people to avoid it.

MY NEW FAVORITE PLACE IN DOWNTOWN RALEIGH!!! This place has a desirable vibe inside & outside (on the patio). Great view of Glenwood Ave as well. Nighttime is laidback, they offer tables and chairs outside. You can eat &/or sip outside while enjoying the night breeze or admiring the nightlife. So far I have tried the fried mozzarella, chicken Marsala, chicken Alfredo, and a few "adult" beverages. All were very tasty. I have to try the pizza next. Dining inside is really nice with plenty of bar seating & TVs. They have table seating with a window view. The atmosphere is very chill, relaxing. Great after work place too. The staff is very attentive & friendly. Ty was our server each time. I can't remember one of the bartender's name, but she has really cool tattoos & a great personality. I met the owner last weekend; really cool dude. Down to earth. If you're downtown and want good food, this is the place for you. During the weekends, you may want to make reservations.

New Italian restaurant in Raleigh offering thin crust pizza and house-made pasta. They use quality ingredients and the food comes out surprisingly quick. Plus to make it even better, the meal starts with complimentary bread and olive oil dip! The restaurant is easy to locate off Glenwood. The inside is bright and spacious. I parked on the street right out front and paid ~$1.50 for parking via the Passport app. I dined in and also placed an order to-go. The pizza was very thin very large slice of flavorful pepperoni pizza. For takeout, I chose the pappardelle bolognese. It tasted great and was made with house-made pasta, however seemed very pricy at $24.96 plus $6.50 to add chicken (and there wasn't much chicken). The waitress was welcoming and attentive. Overall, a positive experience and I recommend this restaurant to others!

By far the best Pizza in North Carolina, coming from NY, it's important to me to have good pizza, and Anthony's doesn't disappoint! Somehow found my TikTok feed and the Classical Brooklyn, New York accent and zuppa Depeche, caught my attention. After parking, which around Glenwood South can be challenging and everyone should expect less than convenient locations outside of a parking garage. Initially met by Anthony the owner who made things available quickly for the five of us and remembered my reservation through TikTok. After placing a drink order the fresh bread arrived with classic olive oil and balsamic vinegar for dipping. Then the Live singer start warming up and was clearly a rebirth of Frank Sinatra not some Joe Schmoe karaoke guy. Our server Rachel was a class act and very attentive but not overly interfering with our family dinner. With that said it's this isn't Anthony's first rodeo, after speaking with him and learning of 4-5 others in the area this particular kitchen is the crown jewel for good reason. Ultimately the location, food, service, and ambiance was spot on! We ordered the grilled Caesar salad, best in my life! Fried calamari and homemade fried mozzarella half moons. Both of which were pretty good. Two bread baskets, Three pizzas, and one zuppa Depeche later made our Saturday dinner truly satisfying. We'll be back for sure read more

Let me tell you, this is the place to go. I met Anthony on TikTok (I know, crazy right?). He posted videos of the food and I started commenting. He invited me to come by so I shot him a message just to let him know I was gonna come by. Not only did he welcome me, but he even set up a reservation for my family and I. When we got there, the place was gorgeous. The decor, the furniture, everything. Ambiance, top notch. Then came the service. The service was fast, attentive, and everything you could ask for. Now for the food. First up, the complimentary bread. Looked and tasted like homemade rosemary focaccia that was clearly fresh out of the oven and hot, with this crispy bottom that tasted like they took a cast iron pan, lathered it in butter, and cooked the focaccia in that. It was rich and crispy and full of flavor. Plus, served with the traditional oil and vinegar with seasonings - top notch. Couple of cocktails and baskets of that bread and I'd be happy with that alone. Then we got the Antipasto. Came with burrata, prosciutto, pepperoni, salami, provolone, turkey, grapes, olives, homemade pickled mushrooms, roasted red peppers, arugula salad, garlic knots, and more. Phenomenal. Top notch. For entrees we got the Spaghetti Carbonara, which was clearly done right with the fresh egg yolk, pecorino, peas, pancetta, touch of pasta water, and seasonings. Pappardelle with Bolognese, which was rich and full of flavor, clearly done with love. Chicken Picatta with the potato of the day (mashed golden yukons with pureed garlic, salt, pepper, butter, touch of cream). Chicken was so tender and full of flavor with a perfect emulsion of lemon and butter with lots and lots of capers. Then my wife's Tortellini Alla Panna, which was simple but full of flavor. Genuinely, a 10 out of 10 experience, could not ask for better. My family and I are already planning our next trip so we can try the pizza and the desserts! read more

I highly recommend Anthony's La Piazza Prime in Raleigh, NC. On Christmas Eve we had the pleasure of dining at this family oriented Italian restaurant. It was an amazing experience. Anthony, the owner, was gracious and welcoming with his New York/Italian personality; Alex, our server was incredible with great explanations of dishes and recommendations and quick with a joke or funny comeback; and of course the food was DELICIOUS! Everything is made fresh so be ready to wait a little bit but it is definitely worth it (order appetizers as soon as you sit) . Every dish was incredible and it had that original Italian flavor. The atmosphere reminded me when I ate at home with my 50 cousins as a kid. Tables close by, everyone talking and laughing. I am definitely coming back! Molto bene. Congratulations Anthony! read more

I can confidently say this is the best Italian food I've ever had in my life--and I'm from New York, so I know good Italian food! From the moment I walked in, I was blown away by the beautiful atmosphere--warm, welcoming, and full of charm. The food? Absolutely incredible. Every single dish tasted homemade, crafted with love and the freshest ingredients. The pasta was perfectly cooked, the sauces were rich and flavorful, and every bite was better than the last. You could tell everything was made from scratch and with true Italian passion. The service was just as impressive. Our waiter was so professional--attentive without hovering and incredibly knowledgeable about the menu. And then there's the owner: hands down the friendliest, most genuine person you'll ever meet. They made us feel like family and clearly care deeply about creating a memorable experience for their guests. I made a reservation for vday and long story short I didn't end up going there. When I arrived, the hostesses couldn't find my reservation. Then, when they did find it, I was put on a waitlist for thirty minutes.....When we went to give them a number to call, we repeated it twice to make sure they wrote it down correctly and sat in the car. After it was past the wait time, we decided to check in with the restaurant and they informed us that they had called twice. Even though, we had no calls from the restaurant. When we asked what number they called, the hostess said she did not know the restaurants number....Then informed us they gave away our table, which was apparently ready in 10 minutes not 30 minutes. Not a great experience at this place and I believe the manager should re-evaluate the hostess staff. Also, do not open your reservations up for more tables than you actually have. I've looked at others' experiences here and I do not believe this is a one time mistake. read more

Went on Tuesday last week for my girlfriend's birthday - food was amazing! Bread is really good, has a different type of crusting to it. We got the 3 meatballs, rigatoni with Italian sausage, and chicken parmigiana. Portions were 100% worth the money. The waitress was really attentive and kept the area clean. Came on a Thursday night, wasn't too busy around 5-5:30, sat at the bar, had a great time, Nicky and Katie were the best, had great vibes. Nicky was the bartender and made a great dirty martini! The lobster ravioli was delicious, came out with lobster meat pieces, we also got the chicken Parmesan and had 2 huge pieces of chicken patties, delicious! Anthony's is fabulous. If I could give it six stars I would. One of the finest food experiences I've had in years. As a Chef for over 40 years, we wanted to find an authentic Italian restaurant before our Christmas Concert . We saw the 4.9 rating and it surely did not disappoint. Anthony greeted us. Alex and the staff were awesome. Rachel our server was Exceptional. Anthony's feels like a high-end little Italy restaurant you would find in New York City. Food was ok, have had better for sure. Turnoff was being told it would be $6 to share a plate with 10 year old son. Also when ordering a Lemon Drop I was asked which Vodka I wanted- Tito's, Kettle One or Grey Goose. I was never informed of an upcharge. I picked Tito's and was charged an extra $2. The Rigatoni with Vodka was ok at best. Not a ton of flavor. I think this place is somewhat overrated. I would say 3 stars very appropriate. I would never go back just due to the attempt to squeeze every dollar out of you and average food read more

From the @bajfamily. Anthony's La Piazza is phenomenal. First the location because after you have the best Italian food of your life, you can get a nap at the AC hotel. The restaurant's coziness and warmth when you walk in you makes you feel at home. Then the food is authentic Italian. Not food from a chain but Italian to the bone. The service was great and very knowledgeable about the menu but also the intricacies of each plate. Very hospitable and top shelf service. Great Italian food like you'd find up north! Downtown raleigh needed a place like this so bad! Big menu with all the classics you'd need. Best Italian I've had in Raleigh so far as someone from the Northeast. Cannot find manicotti, chicken Marsala and piccata and many other classics at most Italian places down here besides here! This was my first time at Anthony's, and I can't believe I didn't discover this place sooner! Everything was outstanding--huge portions of incredibly tasty food, attentive and knowledgeable waitstaff, and a perfect balance of sophisticated yet casual ambiance. Starting this review before the food even arrives. The restaurant is less than 50% full on a Saturday night. We entered before 10PM And ordered pretty promptly. It's been 30 minutes and still no drinks after being told 20 minutes ago they were 2 minutes from being on the way. Finally what we have been waiting for 10:27pm Margarita and it's below average. SMFH. Now miracle of miracle the pizzas arrive before the salads. Is this just the server having an off night? Not impressed appetite gone . read more

We had a great meal at Anthony's. We were looking for an Italian place with fresh pasta so our runner could carb-load before the City of Oaks race. We had Shrimp Scampi, Veal Parm, and Spaghetti with Meatballs. They were all delicious, but the pasta and meatballs stole the show. You could tell the pasta was fresh made, and the huge pork/beef meatballs were soooo flavorful. The service was also amazing. Our server was very accommodating for our 6yo child. The location is new but part of an established Italian restaurant group so the dishes are tried and true. read more

First time eating there tonight and it was AMAZING. We will definitely be back. My Italian wife and mother in law moved here from Boston and this is the first time I've heard them rave about how amazing a restaurant is since they've been here. So excited we decided to try this tonight! If you want to taste the best drink of your life, try the blueberry lemon drop. When leaving a professional review on Google the owner snapped back and told me to add pepper and grated cheese and that I should've asked for him. It was perfectly seasoned, topped with avocado, and every bite just melted in your mouth. Next, we had the tamarind sticky ribs with a tamarind mango barbecue sauce. This was a perfect example of how simplicity can create complex flavors. The ribs were cooked just right -- not completely falling off the bone, but tender enough that when you bit into them, the meat pulled apart so easily. They were juicy, full of flavor, and had just the right touch of spice from the chili flakes. Then we moved on to the mini arepas, and oh my God. They had slow-cooked pork, guava barbecue sauce, and fried papas on top. The arepa itself was crispy on the outside, warm and fluffy on the inside. The savory pork paired with the sweetness of the guava barbecue sauce was incredible, and the crunch from the fried papas took it to another level. Now, I have a bit of a sweet tooth, but my wife does not. I wanted dessert, and we were leaning toward the tres leches, but our waitress highly recommended the bread pudding. I am not usually a fan of bread pudding at all, but her recommendations had been on point all night, so I decided to trust her. I am so glad we did. They take a Mexican bolillo, soak it overnight in tres leches, then pan-sear it to create this crispy caramelized outside while keeping the inside warm, soft, and sweet. It is topped with crema and toasted coconut, then they pour warm guava syrup over it and serve it with a scoop of coconut sorbet. The layers of flavor in that dessert were unreal. Honestly, it may have been the best dessert we have ever had. And remember, my wife is not big on sweets -- she usually only takes one bite of dessert, but this time she tried to eat over half of it. Lol. I highly recommend this place. The food, the service, the drinks, and the atmosphere were all amazing. The dish had roasted branzino, medley of sautéed cherry tomatoes and onions, fresh herb rice, and skordalia (I had to look up what that is - a fascinating Greek garlic puree). Walking in you'll feel like you've been transported to a village like, Greek atmosphere. To sit down you'll check in with the host and then be seated either inside or on the rooftop. We opted for the rooftop as it was a nice evening. To start I ordered the Baklava Old Fashioned (Bulleit bourbon, homemade baklava syrup, Angostura bitters, and Amarena cherries) which was amazing. Next we ordered the trio of all three spreads (Tzatziki, sun-dried tomato hummus, and spicy feta spread) and the calamari. Both dishes were excellent and I definitely prefer the spicy feta and tzatziki sauce. For my main course I ordered the Tomahawk Pork Chop (Chargrilled tomahawk chop, spinach, barrel-aged feta, herb aioli, Greek lemon potatoes) which was a bit disappointing. I probably should have sent the pork chop back as it was cooked well done and was very dry but was I was too hungry and didn't want to make my parents wait. For dessert I ordered Baklava Cheesecake (New York-style cheesecake with nuts and baklava filling) which was very nice and my mom ordered the Limoncello cake (lemon cake with lemon cream frosting) which was definitely the star of the show. If I'm back downtown I may try Taverna Agora again but will definitely avoid ordering the pork chop.

The waitstaff ignored us most of the time and, after waiting for their help, we observed SIX of them just hanging out at the station, chatting and looking at their phones. 3. My husband spilled an entire beer and we asked the guy who came to help wipe it up if we could get another. His response was a very snippy, "...that's not my responsibilty". No help at all. 4. While we were still deciding on drinks, someone came by and took away the drink menu. we asked for two more, they brought only one, then someone came by and took it again! Since we now couldn't get a waiters attention, I finally went to the station myself to get one. 5. The food : Brussels sprouts in sauce were placed in front of us with no serving utensil, we asked for extra roumelade for the Pickles & Peppers but it took so long to arrive that there was nothing left to dip in it, wrong plates were placed in front of us, hamburgers were WAY over cooked and super dry, sweet potato fries were very soggy, sushi was bland. The espresso caramel chocolate malt that we loved so much before had zero malt flavor and was pretty much melted by the time we got it. We asked for six spoons for the malt and they brought five. We couldn't get anyone's attention to get a sixth, so two of us shared (we were tired of going to the station to fetch things for ourselves). It was perfectly seasoned, topped with avocado, and every bite just melted in your mouth. Next, we had the tamarind sticky ribs with a tamarind mango barbecue sauce. This was a perfect example of how simplicity can create complex flavors. The ribs were cooked just right -- not completely falling off the bone, but tender enough that when you bit into them, the meat pulled apart so easily. They were juicy, full of flavor, and had just the right touch of spice from the chili flakes. Then we moved on to the mini arepas, and oh my God. They had slow-cooked pork, guava barbecue sauce, and fried papas on top. The arepa itself was crispy on the outside, warm and fluffy on the inside. The savory pork paired with the sweetness of the guava barbecue sauce was incredible, and the crunch from the fried papas took it to another level. Now, I have a bit of a sweet tooth, but my wife does not. I wanted dessert, and we were leaning toward the tres leches, but our waitress highly recommended the bread pudding. I am not usually a fan of bread pudding at all, but her recommendations had been on point all night, so I decided to trust her. I am so glad we did. They take a Mexican bolillo, soak it overnight in tres leches, then pan-sear it to create this crispy caramelized outside while keeping the inside warm, soft, and sweet. It is topped with crema and toasted coconut, then they pour warm guava syrup over it and serve it with a scoop of coconut sorbet. The layers of flavor in that dessert were unreal. Honestly, it may have been the best dessert we have ever had. And remember, my wife is not big on sweets -- she usually only takes one bite of dessert, but this time she tried to eat over half of it. Lol. I highly recommend this place. The food, the service, the drinks, and the atmosphere were all amazing. I enjoyed the mussels a lot and my wife enjoyed the octopus (not my thing). The entrees were the biggest letdown. We had the cod entree and the scallops entree. Both were just ok. The rice that accompanied the code was bland, and the corn/snap-pea mixture with the scallops was very simple without any interesting flavors (heavy on the salt). We also had the sides Brussels sprouts and Japanese eggplant, which were average, and didn't have anything unique about them. The level of the food just didn't measure up to the cost for me. And to top it off, on one of the hottest days of the year, the air conditioning was clearly not up to the task. The dining room we sat in is completely surrounded by glass, so I'm sure AC is a challenge, but it was warm and uncomfortable. Summary: it wasn't bad, but it wasn't worth the price, and we likely won't return.

I recently dined at Anthony's La Piazzia and it was a great experience! From the moment we walked in, the ambiance was warm and inviting, with a perfect mix of modern and rustic charm. The staff was incredibly attentive, making us feel right at home. As for the food--wow. Every dish was a masterpiece. The pasta was hands down the best I've had outside of Italy--perfectly cooked and paired with a rich, flavorful sauce that made each bite better than the last. The veal parmigiana cooked perfectly and the serving size was large enough for me to have lunch the following day. For dessert, Palo helped us celebrate our birthdays with a sparkler and cannolis. I heard this place was good. It was. Being from the NorthEast with Sicilian family roots, and a retired Chef (pastry and Italian food) background I feel I'm a pretty good judge. I felt like we were back home-Anthony (owner) nice guy with a pleasant personality-My husband ordered Zuppa di Pesce-Shrinp are a nice size fish was cooked perfectly for this dish. Lots of juice for dipping the house made focaccia bread. I ordered a nice bowl of Parpardelle with their bolognese sauce. Very nicely done. My friends and I had an amazing experience at Anthony's La Piazza. Everything we tried was so delicious. I especially loved the red sangria, the handmade pasta with vodka sauce and burrata, and the charcuterie board. The homemade focaccia bread was incredible. Italian food is my favorite and I'm pretty picky, but Anthony's hit the mark and I will definitely be back there! We also got a chance to meet Anthony and he is so friendly! Enjoyed a wonderful Mother's Day dinner here!
