I was in Suffolk for an event and also really needed a haircut before going on a work trip -- so when I found this spot nearby on Yelp, and it indicated they'd take walk-ins, I decided to stop in to knock yet another thing off my busy list. As advertised, they were in fact able to accommodate me without an appointment. The salon itself is super cute with a lot of shabby chic decor -- a bit of an Etsy upcycled look to it. After about a 30 minute wait, I was introduced to my stylist, Kim Curling. Kim asked several intake questions about my hair, my daily routine, and my preferences before starting. Typically, I'm hard pressed to find a stylist who doesn't cut my hair too short on the first try -- but Kim did an excellent job staying in my comfort window. She also was very helpful by introducing me to a new styling product that is amazingly low maintenance, helps maintain my curls, and doesn't make my hair stiff as a board! Overall, it was a good experience. In terms of my star rating -- I went with four because it was an expensive endeavor ($80+), and for that price, it didn't come with spa perks that I've come to expect at that price level (aromatherapy, skin/scalp treatments, complimentary tea/coffee, etc.). Alright, I JUST got back from 'gettin my hurr did' at Anthony's. After reading the reviews, I decided to go for it. I'm glad I did. I did a basic cut - with a shampoo of course (I mean really, how can you NOT like having your head massaged. I thought I was gonna fall asleep), some long layers and a little bit of framing around my face. They booked me with Kimberly and she was very nice, friendly and paid special attention to letting me know what she was going to do and if I was 'ok' with it. I definitely was. I didn't book a follow up appt when I paid but will definitely be going back for my next cut. read more

I came here after reading about it on a negative review of Bombshells, the other salon in town. Since Anthony's doesn't have a webpage, I didn't even know it existed, but it's conveniently located in the Farm Fresh shopping center off Shoulder's Hill Rd. I came in for a color and my stylist, Lydia, explained what would happen and I decided to do a spur of the moment twist and had her give me side swept bangs. I love it! Lydia was completely professional and also knowledgeable, personable, and totally accommodating. She even said if i didnt like the bangs I could come back and she'd fix it for free. But they were wonderful, as was the hair color. The entire experience was very nice and I will be taking my business to Anthony's as my regular salon from now on. read more

I really like Anthony's. it's always a welcoming environment with great services. They have 10 stylist stations & 4 hair washing stations. It definitely has a hometown feel with just a hint of refinement. There is art all over the walls and a cosmetology themed graffiti mural on a focus wall near the back. They carry Moroccan oil, Scruples, and Pevonia Botanica products. Kim does my hair, as well as my husband's and son's. We never leave dissatisfied. I have also had a basic mani and pedi from Sheila and it was really good too. She is super nice. I live in Chesapeake but drive to Suffolk to see Kim and plan to as long as I live in Hampton Roads. read more

I've been to Anthony's several times, and have always come away happy. I've had my hair cut there several times, and though I am usually fussy when I get my hair cut anywhere, they have always done a great job with it. Gail and Lisa are mainly the ones who have cut my hair, with Lisa's apprentice working on it once before Lisa went behind her and finished it up. I've never been disappointed, and think it's great that Lisa is helping apprentice other people. On the other side of the salon/spa, I've gotten waxed a few times. But mostly I go there for some of the best massages I've had anywhere. The regular massages are great; but if I'm in the mood for deep tissue, having an actual Ashi therapist who knows how to use her feet is amazing. Lomi massage is really neat, too, though I usually go for the deep ashi massage. Finding someone who is certified in all of those, and really does them well, was a rare gem. Some friends travel to the area from DC on a regular basis, and they've always said they always make sure to swing out to Suffolk for massages because they can't find massages as good as Malina's anywhere else they go. And now I can understand why. read more

Ok let me begin with this....I have hair that goes all the way down to the small of my back. I never get it cut, mainly because I don't trust many people with my hair. Not because I have this fancy hair due but because I have what my stylist, Kim, calls virgin hair. I've never dyed my hair either. I am 27 and she was the first one to ever use a flat iron on my hair. Hopefully you get the idea. So to begin on the review....I called and was scheduled next day for a hair cut with Kim. I wanted to try something very new for me and go with bangs. Day of, I was running a couple minutes behind and called to let them know. I didn't get any attitude at all. I showed up and they were very polite and friendly. Kim came and got me from reception and I showed her my ideas for my cut. She said no problem. Walked me through everything. Did a trim on my ends because they were invisible. She explained what that meant lol:) Gave me layers as I asked and even fixed a previous haircut that my dear husband gave me:) then came the bangs. I haven't had bangs since I was 5. She did an absolute amazing job!!!! I fell in love with this woman. So kind. So down to earth. Explained everything before doing it. She respected how weird I am about my hair and was not judgmental at all and didnt find me annoying for it either. I have curly, long hair. I called prior to coming in & asked if they had a stylist with experience cutting curly hair. "Yes, of course we do" they told me. The stylist completely butchered my hair. It's the worst haircut I've ever had and one of the most expensive too. I would not recommended this salon to anyone. If you are going to charge outrageous prices at least have the decency to have experienced stylists. I don't mind paying higher prices for valued service, but I seriously think I could have gotten a better cut at Fantastic Sams or some other cheap chain. There are so many other options of very nice salons, do yourself a favor and pick one...I think any place would be better than here. read more

I have been here two times for massage, actually had my first massage here along with a spa facial. The two times I went I had a different massage therapist each time, but they were both friendly and made me feel comfortable. I really loved the spa facial that I received here, it made my skin look great and feel really refreshed. I definitely wish I could get these more often, but they are kind of pricey. Anthony's Salon & Spa also has a nice hair styling area, where services such as cut, color, and shampoo are offered (as well as other various hair services). The set-up here is nice, the hairstyling area is spacious and clean. The spa area is very relaxing, there are candles, dark lighting, and soothing music playing in the background. I have been 3 times. The first time I went I absolutely LOVED my hair cut (I went with my mom and she also got a cute haircut) I wish I could remember who did it...but he was super friendly and I felt like he was my friend after he finished haha. The second time I went once again loved my hair cut, I always get my hair cut short and she did a REALLY good job. She did exactly what I described to her but even better. The third time though I was with an older woman and I had forgotten to bring my reference photo...now she wasn't rude but she didn't seem to help me sort out what kind of hair cut I was talking about...our conversation was also a bit awkward. I went to Anthony's a few weeks ago and Gail cut and styled my hair. She actually listened to every picky request I made (I requested a certain shampoo, no use of certain styling products, a certain look for the cut that had to be tweaked due to my very fine thin hair, etc) and gave me a nice, stylish haircut. It's been about 6 weeks and it still looks really good. Everyone I dealt with at the salon was nice and friendly; their prices are decent. This salon isn't a flashy, trendy place (like I've heard Bombshells is), so you don't feel like you're in some fabulous, cool salon. If only they would offer a glass of wine like my old salon in DC! LOL. But, I got a haircut that I like and the price was right. I will definitely be back for my next cut. read more

I've been going to Anthony's Salon for a couple of years, and Kimberly Bell is the bomb! The staff is always friendly and accommodating, and Kimberly takes care of my hair better than I do! She is honest and knowledgeable, and will tell me if what I want will not work on me--a lot of places will do what you want just to take your money. Anthony's Salon offers hair and other services such as facials, massage, nails and more. It is a full-service salon to make me look and feel my best. Okay for a while, but don't stay too long! I used to have the owner color and style my hair. She did well for a while, but then the last few times was distracted and left the color in my hair too long, thus frying my hair. She was too busy engaging with family members and friends to remember who her clients were. When I went into work, people were horrified and asked me what I did to my hair to make it look so bad. I had 3 different appointments with Kim. My very first was for high/low lites. Too dark never complained just waited til my next appt which I then made for just high lites since it was already dark. She told me she was going do me a favor to save me $$ just doing highlites (I asked for that to begin with) she then goes in back mixes up solutions for hair comes back applies it and as I talk I asked a question out of concern about the way it will turn out cause it was so dark last time..she said she was doing hi & low..hmm I never asked for hi & low I said but she said after looking at my card it said hi-low last time so she did same..ODD i thought but did not complain paid the fees and gave $20 tip. I go home it's still dark didn't say anything went back for my 3 appt this time for hi-llights since she did both last time..told her didn't like it too dark still..she did all hi-lites this time..got home roots were not covered all grey..called back next day sched appt arrived at appt she was very irritated with me gritting her teeth said didn't know how to fix what I wanted cause too dark other times this time she did higlights didn't like..I said just want grey covered rest of hair is perfect not roots..she then told me it would be an adt'l $65 to fix her unfinished product. Does customer satisfaction mean nothing these days..I may have said to her I did not like the finished product either time but she got $20 tip each time and I never complained or called back. I was in total shock. Even 3rd visit after showing the hair style she had said she could show me how to create the look but when she finished drying and straithtening my hair I asked could she show me how to culr it the way it showed she said after her appointment with the next client. The whole time we conversed on my appt to correct my grey that wasn't covered this last visit she looked at her watch as we talked as if my time was up. For the services i received I would not go back. I went to her because my previous hair dresser got married and moved to the beach which is a hike from my house. I was looking for convenience and a professional not someone I would have to go back on. All I needed was a root touch up but she made out like it was going to be a "patch" to my roots which made me uncomfortable. This place is terrible!!! I'm new to this area was originally from California and was looking for a good hair salon, so I saw they had great reviews... I called and set an appointment yesterday, and they booked me for an appointment this morning at 9am with the salon owner.... However due to bad weather they called me and told me they delayed me 2 hrs pushing my appointment back to 11am... Although when I called to confirm my appointment for 11am due to the delay the owner already booked another client in my spot with out hearing back from my call to confirm I received the message... Mind this I could not get a hold of the salon to confirm b/c the phone lines were busy for the past 2 hrs... Let me just say they lost a customer!!!!! Awful customer service and his was from the owner of the salon...I will NEVER go there!!!! read more

Well I dd not have the experience that the first several people had. I myself am a stylist of 13 years and not working right now cause i'm a stay at home mom till the kids are in school so have been searching for a good stylist to cut and highlight my hair. I went in and talked to the owner Lisa and gave her my issues that ive had with people doing my hair in this area cause i'm new here, so she decided to do me herself. It was one of the worst highlights ive ever had. I wanted a natural looking highlight and what I gIobbs of blonde all over my head with an inch of regrowth look to it. It looks like I had it done 2 months ago and need it done again. What a mess. Before I even left the place I told her that this is not how it should come out and it was a bad job. She looked me in the eyes and told me that it is a good job and that because of the color she used she couldn't get it any closer. I was shocked. Telling a cut and colorist myself trained from Vidal Sassoon I couldn't believe it. Her next reply was that she excepted a coupon that I bought off a gal worth $75 that she claims expired 1 yr ago but hey she got the money for it, it was never used and there is no expiration date on it and what the heck does that have to do with a botch job on my hair. The way I was treated was terrible and coming from the owner of the shop and how she dealt with the situation made me so angry knowing the hair business. She did offer her services to correct my hair but really if she couldn't do a good job the first time why would I let her make it worse. I did though send a message with pics of my hair to their facebook page and I did get a response that they will offer services of another stylist to fix my hair at no charge so I will take them up on that offer cause I can't afford another $110 plus dollars to fix this mess. Crossing my fingers that they put me with someone that knows how to highlight correctly. Lisa gave me a decent cut but when it came to highlighting I would not recommend having her do it. read more
