Anthropologie Weddings / BHLDN is a great place to start bridal dress shopping, but it definitely seems to be hit or miss. The dress selection is pretty good considering they don't specialize in bridal gowns, and very fairly priced. Just be prepared to focus on trendier styles- the options are definitely not exhaustive. The space is nicely decorated and bright, with privacy from the rest of the sales floor. They served canned sparkling wine to our group, which was cute but not as posh as some spots. The randomly assigned stylist definitely sets the tone. My fiancée and I tried on dresses together and one stylist was very sweet while the other was very underwhelming. Mine was the not great one. I was surprised to hear she had been a stylist for 5+ years. She seemed incredibly unsure of herself and unenthusiastic, and she was not informed about my pre-selected styles. She kept suggesting dresses that were definitely not my taste with no explanation, even though they require you to choose styles out on the website first. She also advised that I should probably order my preferred dress soon, as it was the last one in stock online. However, the style had just come out the week before (which I found out on instagram), so I thought that was a bit misleading when it was soon restocked. At one point, I tried on a gorgeous dress that I was loving as was the rest of my party. My stylist didn't suggest trying on a veil; I had to ask for help after several minutes of admiring the dress. I found that weird. On the other hand, my fiancée's stylist was helpful in explaining the try-on process, especially considering this was our first appointment. She was friendly without being too pushy about a sale. She also expressed congratulations/excitement when we were with our group, whereas my stylist stood to the side awkwardly/rudely. Personally being a lesbian couple, I thought this was an ok spot for LGBTQ inclusiveness. There was no outwardly rude behavior, but I do think they were a little confused how to act with us both planning to wear white bridal looks. There was a slight vibe that they weren't taking us seriously, even though we had family at the appointment. Maybe because it was Walnut Creek and we are used to Berkeley/Oakland vibes. But just a heads up to any queer couples, I would recommend a more outwardly LGBTQ friendly spot. Also, the short dresses and bridal suits are not available to try on in this styling appointment; you can only shop separately yourself. I tried on a few dresses to try on but didn't find a style I really loved. I ended up finding my dress elsewhere in the East Bay, but otherwise the stylist, Katie who helped me and was super sweet! They were pretty busy on a Sunday so definitely recommend booking an appointment online ahead of time. Some of their sample dresses are pretty heavily worn down, but the nice thing is they do offer free overnight shipping for when you do order with 30 day returns and a $25 restocking fee. read more

I loved my experience with Dani at BHLDN Walnut Creek! She was such a personable, helpful, and knowledgable stylist and I did find a dress to say yes to :) I made an appointment online which was super easy to book as well as reschedule as needed, and confirmed my appointment a few days before. Upon walking into the store and heading upstairs to the lovely bridal area, my friend and I were greeted with warm smiles and light refreshments. Dani took time to understand my venue and vision before we looked through the dress samples. I actually really like that there are a good amount of styles but not overwhelmingly so like other bridal shops might have, ~30-50 available maybe? And the lighting in that niche of the store is so nice I selected about ~6 dresses to try during the appointment, and Dani looked up the dresses online before I began trying them on to make sure that all of the ones I tried would be able to make it in time for the big day. She was very respectful and helpful as I tried on each dress, giving me space but also helping to zip and clip each dress to better fit. Along the way, she also gave very helpful tips and explanations of different styles, ways that dresses might require altering, and weddings in general. It really was so sweet to have a stylist that felt less like a salesperson and more of a confidant, and as far as I could tell the other stylists seemed very warm and supportive too. At the end of our appointment, Dani helped us talk through which styles seemed to be our favorites and wrote a note to help me remember the names and suggested sizing. Setting up an appointment was easy and the space was beautiful. This review is specifically for my stylist, Hillary. It was my first time going to BHLDN for my wedding dress experience. I am typically someone who feels overwhelmed with shopping. I am also the type of person who has no clue about dresses, as I usually wear joggers and a sweater. Lastly, I was worried I had to have a specific personality while wedding dress shopping. Naturally, I felt quite nervous about my appointment, however, as soon as I was greeted by Hillary, I felt at ease. Hillary was incredibly genuine, down to earth, and validating with my thoughts and feelings about dresses and expectations. I loved how body positive she was the entire time. We conversed about life and I loved her observational sense of humor. Hillary made me feel protected and seen, and is someone who I recommend if you need extra support and grace during this sometimes scary and intense experience. I did not end up buying my dress at BHLDN, however, Hillary provided exceptional recommendations. I've been to a few wedding dress appointments and I think this one was the most comfortable. My stylist was very helpful and knowledgeable about the inventory. 4 stars instead of 5 only because I didn't find a dress that wowed me, but that's just personal preference. I highly recommend Anthro Bridal, it is amazing. If you go on a weekend definitely request Vanessa. She was absolutely outstanding and made the appointment a dream. We went for an initial appointment and a follow up and specifically requested her because she was so amazing. She made the appointment feel like the epitome of what a bridal dress shopping should be. When I was maid of honor for my best friend, I had gone to a bhldn in Southern California and it was okay. I never thought I would go back there to find a wedding dress. Fast forward to my engagement and I was perusing the bhldn website and finding that I was liking a lot of their styles. So I made an appointment to try on dresses. Immediately, I received an email back from my stylist so I gave her the dresses that I wanted to try on. She immediately emailed me back with what was available and so our appointment was already off to a good start. So anyway, during covid they only allowed for 1 additional person to come along and your appointment was already accounted for in the number of people in the store. Anyway, Cezanne was my stylist and she was awesome!! Right away, she remembered our names and used them often to ask us questions. She had us go through the samples and pick what I wanted to try on and then she added other dresses as well. She was super knowledgeable and never hesitated to answer our questions. I have found the whole wedding dress process fascinating so I asked her many questions about trends, how things were going with covid and so on. She never made me feel like I was asking too much or being a burden to her. I hadn't even considered a separate top and skirt option until Bhldn! (I am not doing that though because that is waay too many combinations.) She also let me try on so many dresses that we didn't even realize that the store was actual closing early due to changed covid regulations. That was how great it was! At the time, I was not ready to commit to a wedding dress, but I left thinking that I would buy one just to support Cezanne because that's how good she was! Anyway, the next couple of days I couldn't stop thinking about the Belize dress at Bhldn and my friend told me there was a sale going on Anthropology so I ended up buying the dress. After Bhldn, I went to a couple other wedding dress shops, but none of the dresses could quite beat the Belize dress. So thank you Cezanne for helping me pick my wedding dress. I had the most positive experience at BHLDN! I am an upcoming 2023 bride in search of my dream dress and it's been quite a journey for me. I've experienced seeing having to pay for appointments at other boutiques and not receiving the best service. I had seen BHLDN many times while shopping in Downtown Walnut Creek, so I decided to check out dresses online. The dresses selection and range of styles were all amazing, so I booked an appointment for a Sunday. I was so impressed with the fact that I didn't have to pay for the appointment and had the best service I've had so far. I understand the need to pay as it shows brides are serious and covering the time a stylist spends on helping out, but it quickly adds up if you are shopping at multiple boutiques. My stylist was Lucille and she was the kindest stylist I've dealt with so far while wedding dress shopping. She really helped me figure out what my style was and was great at complementing the dresses with accessories to help me see the full vision. She was by my side the whole time and was completely honest when I asked for opinions. it felt like I was talking to a friend and not someone who is trying to sell me something. I've experienced st other boutiques where I pay that they heavily push sales and also would leave me alone for a while without notifying me of what's going on. Lucille made super I was supported and helped me find my dream dress. My dream dress was something she picked out as I thought it might not look good on me, but it was and looked amazing on me. 1. You can tell the girls are on commission. I came in with a $500 budget and I could tell they were not enthusiastic about it. 2. If your plus size call ahead I guess. I came here specifically because I was in between the plus and straight size measurements and this was listed as one of the select BHLDNs with plus size samples. I gave my measurements in my appointment notes, I even gave my anticipates 14/16 size according to their chart (they do run small, so double check their smart). The sales girl did not make note of this and did not assist with finding 14-16 sizes. She tried to zip me in a dress that was too tight and did not offer to look for another size. I couldn't even show my friends any dresses. 3. And to put the cherry on top, I heard the sales gal talking judgementally about how I have not yet booked my city hall wedding and I was looking for dresses already. They of all people should know you can hear across the dressing room door. Overall not impressed. read more

I came from out of town... Rough experience to say the least. Stylist wasn't helpful/ disappeared a couple times and it felt like my sister and I (bride) were the only people to keep the appointment moving. Stylist sized me incorrectly (I'm a dress size 8, she recommended a size 14) by the time of my wedding I had ordered 3 sizes of the same dress to figure out which size to keep and alter. I finally found a dresses and it wasn't available in store so I had it shipped to my house. Card machine declined my card several times and found out their card reader was down... had to go to atm for cash. (Not the shops fault) my first dress order arrived damaged and dirty. I had other friends who went and they had a similar experience, not recommending this shop to anyone. read more

I had taken a hot yoga class down the street at trufusion and decided to walk around to cool down. As a bride to be, I decided to come here to take a peek at their collection; I am currently in search of bridesmaids dresses and wanted to get an idea of what styles are available. I did not expect to try on, did not have an appointment, and was simply there to browse in the open area. The reason for my one star is the way the sales associate approached me. I was walking towards a wall of dresses suited for my mother when she stood right in front of me (intentionally based on her body language) and asked if I had an appointment. I kindly told her no and my intentions. Confused by her demeanor, I asked if I needed an appointment to walk around. She said no. She then proceeded to point me to a room where I could find bridesmaid dresses, but I noticed the room was roped off. I asked if I would be able to peruse that area, and She told me it was typically only available to those with an appointment (which I totally understand and respect) but then proceeded to move the rope (only slightly). I did one quick walk around and left immediately because the encounter was both uncomfortable and unnecessary. Perhaps the folks here need to work on how to better approach customers whether they have an appointment or not. After all, every customer has a potential to be a large purchase. read more

We made an appointment and I found my wedding dress here despite the best efforts of the woman "helping" me. She acted like my being there was a huge irritant to her right off the bat. She kept pressuring me to stay in one corner of the shop for some reason. (Luckily my mom was roaming around and found the dress I ended up choosing.) She didn't make any suggestions, but made passive aggressive comments about my weight and tried to dissuade me from trying on dresses (including one that she had already pulled for me????). One of the dresses I tried on was too small and when I asked her if they had a larger size in store, she grimaced at me and said "we do but now that you've seen it on yourself, do you think this would even be one that you'd choose?" She made comments about that for everything--it felt like having a mean girl from high school running the appointment. I'm not self conscious about my body and not sentimental about having this big moment of finding "the dress" but if you are, please don't go here because they will absolutely ruin it for you. I got to show my family 4 dresses total because despite insisting that she needed to zip me into everything, she kept vanishing to go talk to her coworkers. I don't know what this lady's problem was. I gave her the benefit of the doubt that she was having a terrible day but after reading the *Anthropologie* reviews for this location and seeing her named specifically, it sounds like that's just her. Also, if you walk out with your dress same day, be aware that they do not have actual garment bags, just short clear/ plastic ones. They tossed mine in a giant Anthro bag crumpled up. BHLDN was my first bridal dress try on store and I was so lucky that not only did my 4 beautiful bridesmaids come with me, I also had Ashley as my bridal stylist. Ashley was so sweet and supportive, she made me feel comfortable the whole time and helped me put on every dress. We chatted about her upcoming wedding too and laughed over wedding planning woes. I tried on several dresses and really liked 2 of them. Ashley was sweet enough to hold one for me since it was sold out online. She also picked out pretty belts and sashes that went with the gowns. We had so much fun! The dresses are beautiful and at good price points too! I went back a few days later and tried on a few more dresses and it was a different experience so I think it definitely depends on the bridal stylist and their personality. Summary: if you order a dress that is on back order, you might not receive it on the date that they promise it. My wedding is at the end of June and I went dress shopping in April. My experience in the shop was good, nice staff, and I love their dresses. The dress and size I picked out was on the back order but they assured me I'd receive the dress by May 18th so I went ahead and placed the order. On May 18th I checked on the order online and it hasn't even shipped yet. I called the store and they told me that it actually won't be shipped until July 14th, almost a month AFTER my wedding... They offered to send a size bigger. At this point I couldn't trust them to send this dress on time either and wasn't confident that I would have enough time to have it tailored. I had to cancel the order and purchase a sample dress at a different bridal shop. That really limited my options in what I could get and caused a lot of stress. Not an experience you want to have as a bride at all. I wish I would have at least gotten a heads up that the order got pushed back. The woman helping me also never said it was a possibility that the dress might not even be shipped before the wedding. read more

Bad experience here - I booked an appointment to try out dresses many months ahead and everything leading up to it was ok. Arrived to the location on a Saturday (super busy) and parking was hard to find. Then proceed to the second floor to get to my appointment. I was approached by a lady and I informed her I had a wedding appointment. It was my very first time trying on bridal dresses so I did not know what to expect. I told her about that and she doesn't seem too excited about it bc she prob think I won't end up leaving with a dress. Told her I don't know what style to get and she sort of just told me to look at dresses and pick them to try on. And when I tried on the dresses, some of the smaller size dresses were too small for me and when i tried on the bigger sizes, she only clipped one clip in the back to secure the bigger dress on me. Obviously I won't be able to see how it looks on me if it's not "fitted" and I wish she would have tried harder to clip more in the back to secure the look but instead many of the dresses were either too small or too big for me to see how it truly looked on me. The dresses in these fitting room are pretty dirty and stained - ton of makeup on it and you can see that many ppl have tried them on before. The worst part was when my mother was with me for this try on session & she was flipping through the bridal magazines next to the waiting area and spotted a dress she thought it would look good on me. She proceed in asking the stylist about the dress she saw on the magazine and the lady responded in a very rude way & said "oh that's a nice dress but I don't know who made that" and literally turned away from her. wow! I must say that took me by surprised and I found it extremely unprofessional to answer with such attitude. All and all I did not end up with a dress here. These dresses are on the more affordable side but my experience here was not so great. I would not recommend coming here. Dress fitting is also a once in a life time thing and my first time was not good. read more

We underestimated traffic coming from SF two days after Christmas and ended up being 45 minutes late for my fiancée's appointment. We called to give them a heads up while we were stuck in traffic and they were so sweet about it. My fiancée worked with Olivia while I looked for parking and then we spent the bulk of our time with Dani, who was incredibly helpful and so fun to work with. She quickly got a sense of what we were both looking for and guided us gently. We haven't said "yes to the dress" yet but we had such a great experience today that I wanted to leave my two cents. I had my dress tryon appointment in February on a weekday after work, to avoid the busier weekends. I had first looked at dresses on BHLD's site so that I had a better idea of what I wanted to try on. Jaimie, from BHLD, was so helpful in helping me find the style that looked the best. Also, at the time I was in love with a dress at another store and Jaimie was so understanding. She gave me my sizes for my top 3 dresses I tried on which I really appreciated because some of the other dress shops won't do that. I ended up ordering my wedding dress from BHLD online and my accessories too, which was convenient as I didn't need to go to back to the store to order and everything was delivered to my house. There is also a 30 day return policy which is nice just in case you change your mind. Overall, I like how BHLD is still a bridal boutique, but a little more relaxed, affordable, has a mix of traditional & boho style dresses, and makes it easy to place your order online. read more

I had an amazing experience shopping for a wedding dress with Carolyn. This store is unique as it's one of the few that offers standard and also plus sized samples to try on. Carolyn was excellent at asking questions to understand what things I liked and did not like about certain dresses and pulling what she thought would be best for me. Although I did not end up getting my dress at BHLDN I felt like Carolyn truly had my best interests in mind throughout the appointment (and also contrary to some other reviews here, I can confirm they don't work on commission). read more

BHLDN has a wide variety of dresses for a range of budgets. The try-on process was simple and easy. You pre-select the dresses you want to try on during your appointment and they'll be ready(sample sizes) for you at your appointment. They will measure you during your appointment such that you know what size to place an order. The turn-around time for dresses is pretty quick if your dress is in stock. BHLDN is located on the top floor of Anthropologie. There's a parking lot nearby so it's convenient. The space is pretty nice and the associate who helped me was polite, though not as attentive compared to other bridal shops. For example, she didn't let me go out to the big mirror with platform or spread my dress to take photos unless asked. Even though BHLDN has some really budget dresses, they are not that nice. The ones that look nice are really on the pricey side. I think it's a good place to start the dress shopping process such that you know what styles work for you. read more

I was a bridesmaid three weeks out from a wedding... with no dress! BHLDN to the rescue! I had been looking for a dress for weeks and months and kept hearing that other stores couldn't get my size, didn't carry the right color, couldn't ship in time, I'd need too many alterations, or all of the above. As a final effort, I called BHLDN after looking at their dresses online and they were able to schedule me for a bridesmaids appointment next day. We were off to a great start! My appointment started right on time. My sales associate did an amazing job listening to a little bit about the wedding, the theme, the bride's dress, and what I thought might work/not work for my body type and height. She was so calm through the whole thing and knew exactly what dresses to pull for me. The best part? They all came in the color I needed and would all be available in time for the wedding. We moved on to the actual fitting and again, my sales associate was a saint. She was very candid with me (in a helpful way!) about where and how each dress could be altered. We quickly narrowed things down to a dress that worked perfectly and would need minimal alterations -- just a hem! Lastly, she overnighted my dress at no extra cost, knowing I was in a time crunch, and sent me on my way with a list of seamstresses that could do my alteration in time for the big day. My dress came in lightning fast, it was altered in time, and was perfect on the wedding day. You would have never known I found this perfect dress less than a month before the wedding. I accompanied my daughter to BHLDN to look at wedding dresses today. It was a terrible experience. We arrived on time for our appointment and had to wait 15 minutes to get the appointment started. There was no apology for the delay. The woman that assisted us was not good at fitting the dresses and clipping them so that we could see how they would look in the right size or properly altered. The dresses were filthy, missing buttons, frayed. We have shopped at other venues in the Bay Area and had great experiences. I highly recommend you save yourself this bad experience and choose an alternative if you are bridal dresses shopping. read more

I, a five foot borderline-plus sized gal, went into my appointment terrified and unsure. I was anxious that I wouldn't be able to squeeze into any gowns at all. This was my first foray into bridal salons, and I came out feeling confident and beautiful thanks to Stephanie and her expertise. I started the appointment out feeling very insecure about myself, and Stephanie talked me through each step of the process, the sizing of the gowns, and the measures that one could take to ensure comfort in the fit. I must say, that as Stephanie is a seamstress and well versed in alterations herself, she is AN ASSET TO THE SALON! I would recommend her to anyone and everyone. The appointment time was quite short, and I am glad that we finished right on time. I would definitely bear this in mind when preparing for your appointment. Yes, it's a major bummer, but until they change their policy, I would say only pick out your most favorites to try on or you'll definitely run out of time. I will say that I was confused that a previous Yelper's request for two back to back appointments was denied :( that's strange and the store should honor the two hours if they book it in advance. I digress. Stephanie asked if I would like any water or champagne before we began (I went for the champagne because why not), and she took me on a mini tour pointing out all of the gowns that I'd chosen online. She also took a moment to point out gowns that she thought might work really well for me since I didn't know what I wanted at all. She then had me settle in while she pulled the gowns (this took about 5-6 minutes). She brought me back and got me started, helping me into each gown and making adjustments before we stepped out onto the floor. She was kind and knowledgable, and she brought out a beautiful cape that I had been eyeing and I'm still currently obsessing over. I might just buy it and wear it everywhere. I literally felt like a queen. She then wrote down all of my favorites after measuring me, noting the sizes I would need and the price points for my favorites. I can't wait to come back and see her (hopefully!) for my next appointment! I will say that it gets HOT up there (Stephanie took the fan over to me so that I could hog the cool air, and it made for great effects to show off the cape too). read more
