The food here used to be good. Ironically ever since they raised their prices the food quality is really bad. At first i thought it was a bad day but its been bad food consistently for the last year. The chicken seems to always be over cooked latley and rubbery. The beans taste old with a slight sour smell with way too much onion powder to cover up that there isn't much seasoning. The rice used to be a grainy short, now its a thin light weight rice that taste more like a pasta which is also covered in way too much onion powder. Overall not worth the price, for the Enchiladas especially. It's acually really insulating to charge more for food and make it worse. Yum! Incredible prices and food. I ordered their breakfast burrito sub chicken and it was seasoned the right amount, juicy, hot, yummy and perfect for a chilly Thursday morning. The side sauce it comes with is also really tasty. Loved this restaurant! I am always looking for good chilaquiles and these did not disappoint! I got the chilaquiles con carne and chose chicken as my protein. The chicken was amazing I loved that it was crunchy. The plate came with a side of rice and black beans which made it even better. But I decided to come in sadly at the last minute and I usually order the fettuccine Alfredo with chicken, it's my all-time favorite. But today was definitely unique, I'm not mad, I'm not furious, but it definitely made me raise one eyebrow lol as soon as I was eating it, I saw something strange inside, it was a small piece of cardboard that was brown, honestly, I thought it was a piece of mushroom hahaha but it wasn't., Maybe next time they can just start being a little bit more aware if there's any cardboard boxes nearby when they're making the food, if a child was to have illness, they would've had a really serious issue since it could become a choking hazard. I got huevos rancheros , they put no tortillas under the eggs, and to top it off it had a yellow "hot sauce" that was horrible. On a day of exploration, I ran across this place. And this place was mostly great--- except there was an issue with the bread, so we will get that out of the way first because I feel like noting the slip in service before I offer due to praise. I went to this place, and I forgot my glasses (that I yet have to get) so I could not read the menu fully. I askef for the classic of the joint and I was offered the Antigua Breakfast by Michael, a polite, young man, a credit to this place really. Their main breakfast plate comes with three eggs, black beans, fried plantains, in house french bread and queso fresco. Michael explained that I could add steak to my plate. Any other proteins?, I inquired. Chicken was an option, so I opted for the healthier protein. I waited like 15 minutes for my plate--- longer than I usually care to wait. I walked up to the counter to inquire about my plates journey to me. Soon after my plate came. Did my pressure work for my plate to come or was my pressure seconds too soon? The world will never know. When my plate arrived, I noted that rice was absent. I never had a composed Latin dish that had no rice. Was this a Guatemalan tradition---- no rice on their plate? I mean rice and beans go together like butter and parker house rolls, like cookies and milk, like peanut butter and jelly, like apple and crust, and well you get the point. But here the rice was absent. I was surprised and curious. Google explained that Guatemalan food depends on rice. So now I am just confused. But one day when I least expected, I will get the answer---- from a stranger, a food show, or a mentor. But one day I will understand why Antigua Bread offered a traditional breakfast plate without rice. As I was enjoying my breakfast dish, and I do mean enjoying it, I heard a staff member argue with a customer about the absene of bread. I could not hear them clearly. I tried. But the guy was refusing substitutions, apparently the plate he got was eaten with the bread he requested, and nothing else could do. It was a bit tense, but nothing to worry about--- he just wanted his bread, and. get it cause sometimes I want a certain dipping sauce for my nuggets and when that sauce is absent than something critical is absent from the sum of my meal. This was my first clue to the importance of the bread. Then, I saw a table next to me who had gotten the same plate I did, and they had gotten bread. Ok, now I knew that I was owed bread. I love bread, it is flexible, functional and necessary. So I went to inquire. They explained that the usual bread that came with the plate was absent--- the french bread that was described in their menu was denied to me. The beans, the chicken, the cube of cheese, the dallop of crema, all were hitting the right notes, they were also hitting the proverbial spot, but without the bread, I was missing the final key needed to escape the room into full satisfaction. I wondered if I could get a substitution? They gave me options, I wanted the white bread, and I wanted the white bread as soon as it could be given. For you see, by this time, I had almost finished the greatness of my plate, and wanted the bread to finish all the morsels. The bread took time to come. When it finally, did, Michael brought it to me. Michael apologized for the delay and for not offering me other options earlier. I am not one to say it is ok, when something was not. I was not given a principal component of my plate, and then I had to wait for an appropriate substitute to come. I made my slight annoyance known to Michael so he could understand their flop. He nodded in understanding, and he explained hopefully next time they could do better. Phew! I had become disarmed, and I understood that all he could offer was a sincere apology wrapped in hope for a better visit. I could not carry the fight forward, he had quelled the rooster within me, my crest had fallen. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place had a lot of pictures of Campesinos at work, and I think that their spirit touched me.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] A field worker would understand that mistakes happen, and the wheat and stalk needed for the bread was there for another day, just not the bread. So I understood the hope that Michael offered, I felt the humility of the sunburnt workers, and I decided to be ok without my owed bread. I mean it is not worth crying over spilled milk, and it is not worth to quarrel over forgotten French bread. I just realized I told my whole story, and did leave the bread scenario till the end. Eh. The order taker did not ask what kind of bread I'd like--- I most definitely would've requested wheat bread! It was okay, and I ate it. It was a bit dry. Potatoes were okay. Wouldn't order again. But the ambience, decor and upbeat vibe were all great. Latin music provided a nice atmosphere. There is also a nice outdoor patio in front with seating that is nice. This cafe has been here for years, and we've been here many times. Although I had not been here for a very long time. There is also parking in the lot behind the cafe. After weeks of chilly weather, it was finally a warm day in "Sunny" SoCal so I decided to venture out for a walk around the neighborhood. I was surprised to see several new stores had recently opened. You tend to miss things when driving. After a while I was thirsty, so I popped into Antigua Bread for something cold to drink. Antigua is a Guatemalan-American bakery/café. Whenever I drive by there are always people sitting out on the patio so I figured it must be good. In addition to coffee and baked delights you can also enjoy breakfast dishes, regional specialties, salads, sandwiches, & burgers. Bakery items go quickly so it's best to get there early. I arrived around 1 p.m. and there were only a few pastries left. I spotted a coffee cake, so I ordered that since it was National Coffee Cake Day. I also got an Iced Tea (small $2.50). The young man that assisted me was very friendly. The tea was unsweetened, and it didn't need any sugar. I could taste a hint of fruit. Peach perhaps? I wasn't sure. It was tasty, refreshing, and perfect as is. The Coffee Cake was more like a loaf bread. The serving size was very generous for $3.50. It was moist & tender. It had a crumb topping with a chocolate and icing drizzle that added a hint of sweetness. I was missing Guatemala and really trying to reminisce on my time in Antigua so I stopped by to have breakfast here. It's such a lively and nice brunch spot. The decor is nice they have various Guatemalan decorations and even have a section where they sell artisan things from Guatemala. The smell of their coffee takes me straight to Guatemala. The food was delicious. I ordered their red chilaquiles which they were super spicy so I was dying but I loved them!! The servers were are so friendly and very attentive. Delicious!! My husband and I stumbled upon this place and decided to try it. We asked for recommendations and the cashier was helpful! Wanted outdoor seating but it was all taken. Inside is nice too and I love their Antigua Bread painting on the wall. Pricing is a bit high but it is also kinda average with inflation these days ($15 for one plate). We ordered the Ultimate Antigua (upon recommendation) with steak, eggs, onions, two tomato slices, plantains, bread, and beans. It really surprised me and the steak was SO TASTY!! Holy moly the freaken chicken fettuccine Alfredo is level god tier. Took my little family here this Wednesday afternoon. Plenty of space to sit down. The music was great. Bathroom was clean. The woman at the cashier was genuinely nice. You know how you know when you're getting the "fake" service voice that most places give you just cause it's part of their job?
