Unfortunately, I made a special trip here on Saturday, arrived at 10:30 a.m. from over an hour away, only to discover that the business was closed. The posted hours for Saturday are from 10:00 to 6:00. I double-checked the hours on the website and looked for any indications on Twitter, etc., from the proprietor that something had come up, or the posted hours were altered for some reason. Very frustrating. Tried calling and the mailbox was full, also with no indication that the store was closed. I intended to purchase specific items..very frustrating. The only bright spot was a delightful quiche I had a few blocks away at "the little French guy" cafe. read more

This is another store in downtown Highland Park that we visit once a year during small business Saturday. We have never bought anything as it's not my style but my significant other loves to stop in and look at everything. It's out of our price range but if your into Antiques, I recommend stopping in. This year it seem as though they had a lot less inventory than in years past. The staff are always very nice. read more

Not sure if you would call it a menagerie or a cornucopia of cool, gorgeous, vintage, around-the-world antique finds, but whatever you want to call it, you'll love poking around in Antiquaire. Like an episode of Hoarders you want to be in, it's hard to move around in this place because there is something neatly stacked and carefully arranged in every corner. But, if you're willing to stick around you'll find yourself lost in Europe (in a good way) and transfixed all at the same time. Unique farm tables, marble tables, industrial lighting, cabinets, signage you won't see everyday, and so...much...more. If you appreciate the comfort and design quality of the industrial Tolix chair, take note they are one of the only US distributors around. They also carry kid-size Tolix, which is something you won't always be able to find. The owner is sweet and friendly and will answer any questions and give you some great ideas for your projects, but keep it quick because every time I've stopped in she's packing up shipments to get out the door, on the phone assisting a client, or digging for the next treasure. Extremely high-end (you don't want to bring your wild kids in here), the collection is carefully selected for a specific clientele like designers and homeowners who appreciate top quality, one-of-a-kind items. Oh, I almost forgot to mention they recently started selling these amazing rugs made by women in Afghanistan as part of a fair wage project called Arzu Studio Hope. I guess you could call it the more human side of interior design. Extremely welcoming, though you might be intimidated by the prices, the next time you stop by this adorable charmer of a shop, JUST GO IN!!!! read more

We have been big fans of the Tolix stools and when I heard that Tolix also has cafe chairs for sale, I started hunting them down online. It wasn't long until I came across Antiquaire. The store has every color of Tolix chairs you can possibly want, with a color swatch for many other colors available for special order. Most of the fun colors come at a premium ($275) but that seems very reasonable given that I have not see them for sale anywhere else. Meanwhile, their prices for the regular color chairs (black/silver like the ones available at PotteryBarn.com) are very competitive at $235. Not to mention it's always nice to get to see the product in person before buying it. Most importantly, the people here are some of the nicest around! Interior designers get a bad rep for being snobs with an attitude, but that was not the case here at Antiquaire. The staff was friendly, laid back, and very patient. The store also carries interesting antiques ranging from dressers to chandeliers to this gorgeous black vintage birdcage by the cashier. Highland Park is a bit of a hike from the city but the whole experience was so fun that it was definitely worth the trip. I'll be back. read more

We purchase four of the Tolix stools. One arrived dented and the owner refuses to return or exchange the stool for an I damaged piece.

I would not recommend making an online/phone purchase with this vendor. I purchased a floor model table from Antiquaire in August. The person I worked with over the phone was pleasant and the transaction was relatively easy. She even sent me photos of the table to make me aware of some very minor wear and tear on the table. I was extremely disappointed, however, when I received the table and discovered it had been pretty damaged during shipping. The table has dents, chipped paint and bent sides. It was obvious the single layer of bubble wrap had not been sufficient to protect the table. I immediately sent photos of the damaged table and minimal packaging to the representative I had been working with. She agreed the table had been damaged during shipping and if I didn't want to return the table that the shipping cost would be refunded. I kept the table as I was told there were no other floor models available for a replacement. I did not keep the packaging but was told the photos I provided would be sufficient. It is now December and Antiquaire has gone silent. I have to ping them every month to inquire about the refund only to learn that they now refuse to refund my shipping because I did not keep the packaging and citing a policy that is not applicable to this situation. It is extremely frustrating and disappointing to do business with a vendor that does not honor their promise to a customer. read more

I would not recommend purchasing anything via phone or online that you cannot see in person. We ordered 4 Tolix stools and one came damaged. They refused to exchange the damaged stool and basically blamed us for the damage. read more

This store in downtown Highland Park has a great combination of unique and beautiful antiques and a friendly and helpful staff. I've purchased two items from them and am very happy with both. I took one star off because they can be pricey on some items, but they're definitely worth it! read more

I am extremely unhappy with my purchase of 2 Tolix Petit Dossier stools because they are too small and uncomfortable to sit in. Of course, I read online that they were not returnable but I figured that if I hated them they would take them back. They will not take them back or exchange them. Be absolutely sure that you like them and double-check the sizes. I doubt that they are comfortable for anyone if you plan to sit for more than a few minutes. read more
