This is fairly classy place in New Orleans with a lot of history. There is a large dining room as well as a few dedicated dining rooms for larger parties. Reservation is recommended but not necessary - just keep in mind they are very strict on dress code. I almost could not get in even with a buttoned up t-shirt as most people actually wear long sleeved suit and dress pants with dress shoes, even in 90 degree weather, but I asked nicely given we have a reservation and they let us through. It is definitely a place mostly for special occasions or date nights, and the menu prices reflect as such. We were not too hungry so we got the oysters 2-2-2 and a gumbo to share. The oysters Rockefeller is their signature, but I actually didn't like that one since the spinach and cheese with oysters was not the best combo - I liked the oysters bay Ronquille more which is richer and masks the oyster flavor more. They are the large oysters which are not my preference. For dessert, we were considering the original baked Alaska but the server mentioned they no longer torch the dessert tableside, which is the only reason we would splurge for the larger dessert. Instead, as we still wanted to try baked Alaska, they had a spring baked Alaska which is similar but with strawberries which is pretty delicious. Service is okay. I guess Saturday dinner they are slammed but we were not well attended to, but the food is at least delivered in a timely manner. Unlike other reviews, they no longer do a restaurant tour at the end during weekends, but you are more than welcome to wander around after dinner - the servers in other dining rooms were friendly and welcoming and encouraged us to go in and take a look, so that was a good intermediary.

The restaurant is beautiful and the history is vast and interesting. We were quickly escorted to our table and things seemed promising. Our service team was nearly perfect and I have to applaud all the assistant servers for their politeness and attention to detail. However, our server got an order wrong (which he quickly corrected), and then forgot the creme brulee one of our party ordered. I also think that it was a little annoying that knowing she ordered a dessert that the restaurant still charged us for every single person for the baked Alaska (instead of one less). The food? Mixed. The steak eaters loved their steaks (after one moment got her order corrected). The pompano was a little dry and bland; I was looking for salt everywhere. The grilled seafood dish was a hit, and the seafood gumbo also had a lot of flavor. The appetizers were somewhat disappointing especially with all the history of the Oysters Rockefeller invented here. Overall, I want to say it's a great experience and a beautiful restaurant. You won't be disappointed with their ambience and service, but the food may be underwhelming.

The Good: Service was excellent. They staff stopped by often enough to check in but not so often that it interrupted conversations. We ordered the escargot as our appetizer and we were off to a good start. The Bad: we were sat in this cavernous too with the most uncomfortable wooded cafe chairs. I admit to being surprised by the style of seating based upon the rest of the decor. The ugly: I ordered their Grilliades de Fruit de Mer and was so disappointed - mostly because I grew up on the coast and love eating and cooking seafood. Overall the flavors were good - however the execution was poor. The crab cakes and scallops were cooked on top high a heat so that the crust on the crab cake was black and the inside hasn't had time to come together and the scallops looked perfectly seared but mostly raw on the inside.

We loved the atmosphere. The food was above average. Nothing that really wowed us. The fish was a little dry and the sauce covering the steak was very salty. A nice experience overall.

We had reservations here one night for a large party, the greeting was not very warm, even initially. Then, we were all dressed very nice but they gave one member of our party a hard time about arranging his collar, then couldn't find our reservation, then said they found it, took us to the wrong table to a waiting couple we didn't know, left us standing awkwardly in the dining room, then came back and gestured to an adjacent table. Very messy intro. The dining room was very large with no intimacy. Our server was also really bad. Multiple things forgotten, drinks that we were charged for that never got delivered, not knowing who ordered what when coming back with food or drinks, and some strange interactions with members of our party etc. etc. You get the picture. The food was good, I really appreciated the gf designations on the menu. The charbroiled oysters and gulf fish were delicious. Other members of our party didn't have complaints about the food either. Was mostly a service issue and for how expensive this place is and with its reputation, we just expected a bit more class, but it's not a bad place. Actually a solid spot for celiacs to get some good gf new orleans cuisine.

First let me say our server Ziggy was amazing! He was very attentive, friendly and on point! The atmosphere is lovely. We were eating in the Rex dining room. The food left a little to be desired. Nothing was served hot. All the food was pretty much served lukewarm. My Chicken Rochambeau was dry but the flavor was okay. The oysters didn't really have a "fresh flavor" however, the bread pudding was spectacular. We had reservations booked for about 2 months and of course our visit was during Jazz Fest. I'm unsure why the food wasn't top notch but, take from this what you will.

I truly don't understand the hype. We came here to celebrate my BFF's and my 50th birthdays after seeing glowing Google reviews claiming this was one of the best restaurants New Orleans has to offer. Sadly, it was not. We were initially seated right next to the entrance and bathrooms, despite there being several open tables. Maybe because we were just a party of two, they figured it didn't matter? After asking to be moved (because constant foot traffic and bathroom proximity isn't exactly "celebration" vibes), we were relocated--only to be squeezed between two large parties of eight. The entire time, I had to keep adjusting my seat just so staff could squeeze by. It was uncomfortable and made us feel like an afterthought compared to the larger tables around us. Service didn't improve things. Our server and their assistant seemed completely disengaged--no real recommendations, no guidance on wine pairings, and no effort to elevate the experience, especially for first-time diners. And the food... underwhelming at best. Even the starter bread looked and tasted like a stale hot dog bun, which pretty much set the tone. We ordered multiple dishes to sample the menu, and everything was either bland or overly salty. For the price point, it felt like they were coasting on reputation rather than delivering quality. We left having barely touched our meal. Honestly, it was one of the worst dining experiences I had in New Orleans--which says a lot in a city known for incredible food. Save your money and go somewhere that actually lives up to the city's standards.

Ok so, the pros: This is probs some of the best service I have ever experienced. Honestly, super knowledgeable, personable and attentive. I also think historically this place is note worthy. It has an interesting history and is absolutely beautiful. The food: everything was just ok. The oysters were probs my fave but really was not a huge fan of the food. Def go once for the vibes

Antoine's is a Nola staple, and I'm glad to have tried it while visiting! They were able to accommodate a large group of us and the service was spectacular, our waitress was helpful yet fun and witty as well which we all appreciated. After eating we also were able to walk around and take a look at some iconic rooms a the massive wine cellar. The food was delicious as well, though I do not think it was that special compared to other places we visited in New Orleans and spent a lot less money. You are paying for the food plus the experience of getting to eat at such an iconic restaurant when you come here. Everything was still cooked perfectly and I enjoyed everything I tried aside from the creamed spinach that I was not a fan of.

FINALLY MADE IT!!!! I've had this place on my list for YEARS!!! Ever since watching Anthony Bourdain eat here. I ordered a margarita at the bar while I waited for my table, and the bartenders actually did a mini competition and made TWO margaritas for me to judge. After being seated, I was brought the spring menu. My first course was the French spring soup, which has leeks, potatoes, turnip greens, carrots and rice. The MAIN reason that I came here was because I've always wanted to try a baked Alaska. Unfortunately, they won't do the big one where they flame it at your table for just one person so now I have an excuse to go back. But I got the mini spring version which had strawberry ice cream inside.

I had a fantastic brunch experience at Antoine's! We had reservations right when they open - don't arrive early because they don't start seating until precisely 10:30 am. This was some of the best service I experienced in all of New Orleans. The staff were incredibly welcoming and helpful and attentive! They do bottomless mimosas, and I truly never saw the bottom of that glass. They are very generous with the champagne. I highly recommend ordering the Oysters 2-2-2 to taste all the different oysters on the menu - especially Oysters Rockefeller which were invented at Antoine's! The oysters were fantastic. I also recommend ordering the Eggs Sardou, which wears also invented here! The potatoes soufflé were a fun appetizer, and definitely save room for dessert because the bread pudding was fantastic. Make sure to wander and explore! There's much beauty to look at in all of the different rooms in this huge restaurant!

Elegant, rich in history, and exceptional service! The oldest restaurant in Louisiana and you can see what has kept them thriving for so long! The staff are well-trained in not just the menu, but the rich history behind the restaurant. We were encouraged to walk around the restaurant between courses to see the artifacts, photos, and stories that have walked the halls of Antoine's. We began with the Chilled seafood appetizer (I loved the crab). For entrees: Pompano fish dish and scallops added, as it came highly recommended. My husband had the Almandine fish dish which he said was lovely. Couldn't leave without trying their signature dessert, the Baked Alaska, decorated with the est year of opening and of course their name adorned in cream. Topped with a chocolate drizzle, it was perfect to end a wonderful brunch. Pricy for sure and an elegant vibe, but a must-go to have a great experience and learn all about history of NOLA through a restaurant.

I happened to come here for lunch as it was a business meeting and gotta just say, the historic nature of the building, the cultural richness you feel, the historical rooms you see as you go visit the bathroom are epic. I was just washing my hands people. Haha So having been to some very iconic places this week in NOLA, and eating a lot of oysters figured I'd avoid those here, mostly because I can be clumsy and didn't want to get some stuff on my suit. Let's just leave it there. I ordered the escargot after trying some of the fresh bread that was put in front of me to start. My inner carboholic thought to himself, this would be way better dipped in some garlic butter herb goodness that comes with the escargot. Gotta say I crushed a loaf...maybe 2. Even convinced my colleague to try escargot for the first time, and it was a hit. I also got the gumbo. It was probably the 12th time ordering it this week and gotta tell ya folks, if you are in NOLA and gumbo is not your thing, there are plenty of McDonald's and BK's...I don't know where but I'm sure you will find them. This was delicious and something I tend to enjoy thoroughly. The gumbo in every restaurant is different, this is one of my favorites. I do enjoy the ones with a bit more spicy notes, with some alligator bites but all of them are great. My colleagues asked me if I'd like some salad and just had to give them the look of disappointment that they just don't know that when you are in a city of history and so much soul food, you don't order salads, you get mustard greens, okra if that's on the menu. Rookie's!! Happy eating folks.

Antoine's Restaurant Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Antoine's Restaurant

Do you still serve the 3 martinis special during lunch hour? Was reading a fellow diner named PC and PC wrote that there is no longer a martini special during lunch hour as of 2023. Just wanna make sure since we will be in town again. Thanks.

Antoine's has not had the 3 martini special for almost a decade now, there are other great New Orleans restaurants that do that perhaps that's the confusion. Regardless, there is a great Happy Hour in the Hermes Bar 4-5 Monday-Friday with $8…

Is there a dress code for lunch? We weren't allowed to enter the restaurant because we were dressed casual? While not dressed our Sunday best, we weren't allowed to dine there.

While their website does state their dress code, when I went I didn't observe it being enforced and I was there for dinner. I guess it depends on who is at the host/,hostess station.

    Can kids wear shorts?

Hi Anna, Yes, children may wear shorts when dining with us.…

    1. Is the dress code enforced for Saturday brunch? 2. Are you required to show Vaccine proof still?

    No and no

Where do you park and do they validate?

They don't have a parking area. You have to pay to park on the street or in a parking lot/garage or take an Uber/Lyft from where you do park. That is the case with most restaurants in the Quarter.

Would it be appropriate to bring a well behaved 8 year old here for an early dinner, or is this place not suitable for children?

Yes you can bring your 8 year old. It's good for kids to learn how to behave in nice restaurants. :)

Do men need a jacket or tie?

From their website. The dress code is Business Casual— Collared shirts are required for gentlemen,…

    Sunday brunch with live music?

    Yes

    Do they have Air conditioning?

    Yes, is usually chilly haha

Do you need a reservation or do they take walk-Ins?

They talk walk in but it's strongly recommended to make a reservation, specially if for more than two people.

    What should women wear?

New Orleans is very forgiving when it comes to tourist attire, however, I always wear a cute skirt or dress. As one of our oldest dining establishments, it's fun to honor the tradition of fine dining and foster the fun of "puttin' on the ritz"! Go…

    What can vegans eat here?

There are lots of great cocktails!

Is a jacket required for male diners?

Went for lunch saw everything from sport coats to t-shirts, shorts and flip flops

She was a bit chatty but still nice. The menu wasn't extensive at all. The waitress did a good job at selling many of the menu options. I initially had the chicken with carrots and brussel sprouts. The vegetables were perfectly cooked and flavored well. The chicken however was very dry. When the waitress asked how it was, I told her how dry it was and she immediately bright me something else, which was the fish and chips. The fish was hot, crispy, and cooked to perfection. It was tender, however it lacked flavor and seasoning. I asked for hot sauce but never received it. I finally decided to ask for a to go box to take the remaining piece home. The chips "fries" were great. They were freshly cut real potato fries. They were hot and seasoned well. My significant other had the shrimp and grits which he thoroughly enjoyed. As an appetizer we had the salad. Seemed simple and basic enough but was actually very good. I'm unsure of the dressing it was tossed in but it was just enough and well flavored. We skipped on dessert. We considered the cookie plate but since nobody could tell us what kind of cookies they were, so we decided to pass. The best part about our dining experience was the ambiance. The music was nice and the decor was vibrant and swanky . I also had a mocktail flavored with pineapple, jalapeno, lime, mint, and cilantro. It was refreshing. I'm glad we had a chance to check it out before closing but I can honestly say there was no "WOW" factor and likely I wouldn't have been in a hurry to come back.

The service so friendly, and efficient. And the food, double wows, creative, ton of flavors, nothing out of place. So glad I finally made it, for Easter Sunday brunch no less. We started with cocktails, solid and refreshing. The small plates with fun--beignets with a great sauce and shrimp remoulade that was different in its white remoulade but truly fresh chilled shrimp. Outstanding. We went different ways on the mains, with a brilliant fish and chips plus the breakfast plate. So well prepared--devoured both. Justine is now firmly on my French Quarter list!

I'd previously sampled great bites from Chef/Owner Justin Devillier (2016 James Beard Award winner for Best Chef: South) at a guest dinner in Charleston, as well as from Exec Chef Joseph Tiedmann at a Farm Dinner in West Palm Beach. But this was my first visit to "the mother ship", housed in a historic century-old building. I decided to start with the Fried Gulf Oysters - Sofrito Purée, Chowchow & Pickled Sweet Peppers, and was glad I did. There's no shortage of oyster dishes in NOLA, and this was a big winner. Next up, when in the South, why not order Fried Green Tomatoes - Burrata, Country Ham & Oregano? Another terrific plate, perhaps the best FGT dish I've had! Finally, my "target dish" arrived, the Shrimp & Okra Gumbo with Andouille, Collard Greens & Popcorn Rice. Really, really good. Very dark roux, as I like, and with plenty of seafood flavor, but more depth as well. Definitely one of the best gumbos I've ever enjoyed. I was happy to visit La Petite Grocery at lunch, where they offer up the full menu available for dinner too, of course. Highly recommended, and I can't wait to return to try much much more.

The fried goat was great and savory almost like marrow. Wish the cheese was a little crunchier on outside for some contrast but enjoyed. The rabbit was almost tasteless. The mildest I've had and even the batter lacked flavor. Disappointing. All the accompaniments had all the flavor and were good. Especially the schnitzel noodles. The chocolate tart was a miss. Not like a Twix as someone mentioned. Almost impossible to stick your spoon through and I work out. Seriously shouldn't have to struggle that much. Needs a more flavorful crust, less caramel and more chocolate. They should rename this to caramel tart. The bday ice cream was fantastic and probably saved them from a 3 star review from me so I didn't have to leave on a negative note. The espresso wand was caked with milk froth which should never be. They did clean it but makes me think they don't clean after each pull. Should never see that.

Our table tender was attentive, had a great personality and loved how caring she was when my friend showed discomfort. She noticed immediately and asked if she could do anything to make it better! One of the reasons why I'm coming back. Now, let's get to the food! We ordered the crabcakes and baked feta as our appetizers, a medium rare ribeye and the special which was the lobster radiatore as our entrees. Everything was DELICIOUS. Every bite was savored and felt. My favorite were the crabcakes. It had a kick to it so if you don't like spice, I would opt for a different appetizer. The baked feta was also spicy. Steak was cooked to perfection. We tasted the rosemary w/ garlic and I'm not complaining. Lastly, the lobster radiatore. It was creamy and packed with a punch. It was spicy, had a strong lobster presence and just overall a great entree to pair w the steak!

But that on top of the emptiness makes sense with the location, hotel, day and time. Pam took care of us and was a joy as our server. She knew the menu very well and was able to answer all our questions on top of being helpful and productive throughout our visit. We had the skirt steak and king Salmon with a side of fries and stuffed potatoes. The skirt steak was cooked to medium and it was amazingg! Pam asked how I'd like it cooked and suggested it to be cooked at medium rare. I couldn't do that since I'm barely starting to get used to my steaks being cooked at medium, but it was still absolutely delicious. The sauce that was glazed on top, as well as the seasoning of the steak killed it!! The salmon was also delicious. Very flavorful. The stuffed potatoes were ok, we liked their side of fries more than that. Drinks were tasty and refreshing. Worth the price. We also got dessert, a chocolate cake and apple pie. I wasn't expecting to like the apple pie, but wow was that good! And the chocolate cake isn't just any boring cake. Once you break the cake, a chocolaty liquid melts out onto your plate, it was perfection. The restaurant itself is beautiful. They're located on the 14th (if I'm not mistaken) floor and have the best location for beautiful views of downtown New Orleans and the waterfront. I'm still thinking about that special sauce on the skirt steak (heart eyes). Thank u for a wonderful dinner!

My wife ordered a steak Frites well well done and half of her portion slices were medium rare. We started with deviled eggs those were tasty I can recommend that and the shrimp cocktail was good enough. The crab salad was bland it needed something else to liven up the flavor a spoon luck of mayo maybe some pepper or salt. Pepper and salt and all the condiments are on the table which I've never a fan of it. The fine dining restaurants think it means they fancy but this food wasn't fancy the place was nice. The Service needs to be retrained. We ate here because we were seeing the old-fashioned Magic show at Eliza Jane next-door and if you wanna come in for some apps or maybe try or the other entrées I didn't find anything. I really wanted to try because I'm not a big fan of French food I guess I should've tried the duck. There may be some good food here, but I won't be back till to find out we were both underwhelmed. Hopefully they fix the problems if somebody else gives a better review, but I cannot. We both agree the french fries were good. Ambience is pretty good with their remodeling so the bathroom was like a 5 to 10 minute wait it's only one person at a time and women kept using the men's room because it's only. So I had to wait two times for women to come out. Single serve bathrooms definitely are not adequate, but they're doing the best they can during remodeling.
