We recently hosted a group of 90 people at Dickie Brennan's Steakhouse, and the execution was simply outstanding. Managing a group of this size--split between two rooms of 30 and 60--is no small feat, but the staff and service were fast, efficient, and professional from start to finish. The Turtle Soup was a major talking point for our guests. For many, it was a first-time experience. I personally preferred the deep, savory profile of the soup on its own, but the traditional tableside sherry pour added a unique complexity that made it a must-try for anyone visiting. For the main course, the U.S.D.A. Prime 16 oz Rib-Eye was the star. Serving a large group and getting the temperature right is usually where big events stumble, but these were cooked to a perfect medium-rare across the board. The char and seasoning were phenomenal--there wasn't a single complaint from the table, which says a lot for a group with varied steak preferences. We finished with the Crème Brûlée, which arrived perfectly chilled with that signature, glass-like caramelized sugar crust. Beyond the food, the service was the highlight. The wine was flowing, and the staff did an incredible job managing individualized drink orders for 90 guests without missing a beat. The atmosphere was conversational, loud, and full of laughter--the ideal environment for high-level networking. This started like a scene from Pretty Woman. We were dressed casually, but I did have a collared shirt and my wife had a decent blouse, despite our jeans and my wife's tennis shoes. We were looking for a nice restaurant away from the bar scene of downtown New Orleans. Looking in the window and perusing the menu, we saw a nice steakhouse at nice steakhouse prices. We went in and the hostess was able to seat us right away....but she walked us into the bar area to a high-top table by a window with a view of a TV. This was not the ambience we were looking for and despite being in blue jeans, we could afford anything and everything on the menu. So we asked the server for an actual table in the dining room and she pleasantly agreed to ask for us. The hostess, with as much attitude as she could dish out without actually calling us names, came up and said, "oh, you want a table?" She snatched the menus off the bar table and walked toward the dining room without saying another word. She sat us at an acceptable table and walked away, still oozing attitude. I came here for the CAGLA conference platinum sponser dinner and I thought the food and service was mediocre. They first wrongly served my friend a salad when she had ordered a gumbo. The salad that I got for the starter didn't have any sort of dressing with it and was quite dry. Bread was served in a packet on the table that people passed around and it wasn't cut into slices. Additionally, my friend had a knife at the table that had been used and not cleaned. I liked the main dinner and the gulf fish dish was great - vegetables made with the dish and the mashed potatoes matched it pretty well. For dessert, we had a chocolate moose cake in a cup and I enjoyed that as well. I didn't know such a venue existed in the French Quarter which was cool. However, I do think this place has a lot of ways they can improve in terms of a diner's experience. read more

We had a lovely private dining room, which made the night feel intimate and special without being stuffy. He was attentive, warm, knowledgeable, and genuinely cared about our experience. He offered thoughtful recommendations and made the whole table feel welcomed and well taken care of. Stopped in for a dinner on a bachelor trip after finding good reviews. Upon entry, the feel of the restaurant provides that classic steak house vibe, upscale yet inviting, going down into the dining room from street level provides a comforting "homie" feel. Service was wonderful, our server was very attentive, and interactive. Ensuring we were well taken care of all night. Unfortunately, we left feeling the quality and flavor of the food was lacking. Though there were some highlights, the beef Wellington was flavorful though slightly overcooked past medium rare as requested. The porterhouse, cooked to a perfect medium rare was bland, lacking flavor. The sides were run of the mill, soggy vegetables, tasting and appearing like they are cooked in large batches and scooped onto the plate, not made to order and apparently sitting around for a while. My husband and I went to NOLA for our honeymoon and Dickie Brennan's was our first spot after we checked in. We came on a Tuesday and had reservations and was seated immediately. We initially already planned to order the tomahawk since it comes with all the sides but unfortunately, they ran out so we went with the chateaubriand. I loved the presentation and all the sides it came with. The steak was still good and tender, we just never tried it before so it was a nice change. It also came with three sauces which was heavenly as my husband and I are big sauce people. The peppercorn was definitely our favorite sauce and the au gratin potatoes were delicious as well. We didn't finish everything and had it boxed up but we ordered Mac and cheese in the beginning and they seemed to have forgotten it. We asked to have it removed but our server had it packed up on the house which was nice. Overall, the pricing is really good and the food was delicious. I'd definitely be back and service was phenomenal as well. Giving 4 stars because I'm not sure what happened with the Mac and cheese, whether it was just taking a while or they forgot it, and was still sad they ran out of tomahawk for a 7:30pm dinner on a Tuesday. read more

Made reservations for an anniversary dinner. We were not disappointed. We started our evening with the complementary French bread and butter. Absolutely delicious. For appetizer we went with the shrimp cocktail. Nothing spectacular but still good.. We both had steaks for our entrées. I had the filet mignon medium rare and it was perfect. My husband had the sirloin medium rare and loved it. As a side dish we had the au gratin potatoes. Always creamy and delicious. For dessert we had a wonderful homemade vanilla bean ice cream. Was extremely hopeful of this steakhouse based on the previous reviews. I called ahead and made a reservation for 16 people, the restaurant was very accommodating and easy to work with. Got there and the service initially was great. However, two of the three tables received their food, eat and paid thier bills before my table received our food. I ordered the prime strip steak medium rare which arrived over 20 mins late and well done. My party was already ready to leave and I had to send the steak back. The manager came over and offered to have the chef make another one. I politely declined and explained my party had already ate and paid their bills. For the experience and issues I would except them to comp my bill but they did not, charged me full price and didn't even get a meal. This elegant, refined restaurant has amazing food and great service. Seated in a comfortable booth adorned in black leather and with a great view of the main dining room, we started off with martinis followed by a half dozen of the Charbroiled Oysters with Creole tallow butter, crispy panko topping, and apple bacon jam. Such a deliciously unique take on oysters! However, the real star of the show and our reason for dining there was the Beef Wellington for two. My boyfriend is a Beef Wellington connoisseur, and he never passes up on an opportunity to have it, as you don't see this dish on many restaurant menus these days. We paired it with a nice bottle of Pinot Noir. This was enough food for three people! Such a generous feast of sauteed mushrooms (which were outstanding); creamy au gratin potatoes; creamed spinach; a vegetable medley; three sauces; and the outstanding beef wellington with a very large beef tenderloin. We ate until we couldn't eat any more, then took the rest home with us. (Literally, boyfriend took the leftovers on the airplane home and enjoyed them for dinner one night). Our waiter was very polite and attentive, endlessly filling our water glasses and checking on us during the course of our meal. In a city filled with great restaurants, this steakhouse with a New Orleans flair ranks among the best steakhouses in the country. Dickie Brennan's has an old world charm that reminds one of steakhouses from a bygone prohibition-era. There were eight of us going to dinner. Our original reservation was for five people, then seven people, and finally rested at eight people. Open Table stated that there was no availability but when we arrived, the place was practically empty save for several people in the bar area. We walked down the few steps and into the main restaurant. We had a nice table seemingly in the middle of the room. It felt like a fine dining establishment, but you could go dressed a bit more casually. Our party (I think there was 8 of us). We all ordered a bunch of food, and several bottles of wine. So, we'll focus on me and my dinner. There were several appetizers floating around the table and I can easily state that the onion rings were really, really good. Enough crispy breading to stay on the rings and not breaking off and falling to pieces. I ordered a Wedge salad, 86'd the tomatoes and blue cheese, and got it with ranch dressing. It was a very fresh wedge of romaine, and the bacon is always good. They added crispy onions to the wedge which was a nice addition. Their ranch dressing is homemade and is also, very good. The salad is great. You can never go wrong with a wedge salad. For my main, I ordered the USDA Prime Strip (Dickie Brennan Sr's favorite); so I had to order it. It did not disappoint. Cooked to perfection (medium rare) with a tasty creole seasoning. I added a Béarnaise sauce sauce and off we went. Sooooo good. Lastly, I shared the house fries that also came with their housemade Béarnaise sauce. There were so many fries that it could easily be shared with three-to-four people. Unbeknownst to the two of us sharing the fries, no one likes dessert except her and I, so we ordered a few thinking the table would share them. No such luck. She and I were the main consumers and one other person just tasted them. We ordered the bananas foster, white chocolate bread pudding, and the coconut cake. I never ate so much dessert in my life, but just like the dinner, they were soooo good. I did take some back to my hotel and enjoyed them later. We had a dinner reservation nearby and after checking the limited, unexciting menu, my husband called Dickie Brennan's and asked if they could fit us in. They did and were happy to accommodate us, even though we were dressed casually. We definitely enjoyed our friendly server, Nigel L. and appreciated his recommendations and plus the fact that we mutually love our filets charred, medium rare. So the three of us (Mom too) had the exact same entree's. Petite Filets charred, med rare. They were all cooked to perfection. They weren't very petite! So flavorful! We shared creamed spinach and mushrooms. For dessert, Mom had their table side signature Bananas Foster flambé. We had our usual decaf Irish coffees. The three of us had a most wonderful and memorable dining experience. Even though there are so many great restaurants in New Orleans, we can't wait to go back to Dickie Brennan's and hope that Nigel L can wait on us again. But not only was Nigel great, so we're all the staff. This includes every single person who filled our water glasses, to the other servers we walked past.... OMG! Dickie Brennan's never disappoints! We come to New Orleans every year for my birthday!! It was amazing. Rahim, our waiter, was exceptional!! Great personality & great service. He kept us entertained all evening!! Our drinks and food were so good. We split a Ceasar salad and large filet and baked potato. Steak was cooked perfectly. Everything was delicious. The chocolate cake was amazing. The Rahim brought us a scoop of vanilla ice cream with a chocolate crispy base. it was so good. Our table was decorated & they made me feel special for my birthday!!! Where to start? From the moment you walk into Dickie's you know it's different than other French Quarter restaurants. The low lighting and professionalism of the staff tell you this is about to be special. They have one of the best crab cakes I've ever had and the Ribeye is very good as well. The crab cake seems like 95% crabmeat which you don't find often. Usually there's a lot of breading and filler, but not at Dickie's. These are the only two items I've had here and neither one disappointed. My birthday is next week and we were looking to have a "nice" dinner while in town. During my "pre-trip" homework, I kept coming back to Dickie Brennan's Steakhouse. I asked our local guide during a food and drink stroll & he too recommended Dickie Brennan's Steakhouse. Reservations were easy to make through the website. We arrived a few minutes ahead of the reservation. We were warmly welcomed and told our table was would be ready momentarily. A few minutes later, we were seated. I checked "main dining" as the seating but we were seated in a side room. No biggie, it was nice in there with a group of 8-10 also seated in the room. The table seemed a little crowded with the menus, wine & water glasses, and cutlery. It did seem like there were table extensions folded under the table, but they were not being used. Our waiter was Marquis. He was nice, had a good attitude and sense of humor. We started with Crab Cakes & a Caesar salad for me. The ladies raved about the Crab Cake. No fluff there, all crab meat. I asked for no anchovies on the salad and they came with it. No biggie, it's only 2-3 and easy to remove. The dressing was a little lacking but Marquis was quick to bring me more. For entrees, we had a small filet, large filet & seared duck breast. My large filet was cooked perfectly, the medium I requested. My wife's small filet was unfortunately, over cooked. She requested medium but it was definitely closer to medium-well. The side of creamy mac & cheese was decent, not great. It wasn't as creamy as anticipated, I believe the noodles soaked up a bit of the cream sauce. All in all, it was a good meal. Had heard of Dickie Brennan's and got a chance to eat here for dinner while in New Orleans. It was delicious and the service was exceptional. The drinks were made well and the food was flavored great. The gumbo was traditional and had a nice consistency as was the bread pudding we had for dessert. I had the bbq ribeye which caught me off guard with the bbq in the name. I asked for it on the side but later dipped every piece of my steak in it! I never use steak sauce but this sauce was nothing near bbq and was like a wine sauce. Everything about our dinner was excellent and I will be back. Booked Dickie Brennan's for a Saturday night on recommendation by a friend. Our group was seated in a room to the left down the steps. Even though we were in a room full of people the rooms acoustics made it feel like were were in a private room. Our server was slow, but friendly. He got side track and spent too much time yacking to every table he had, but made great recommendations. The menu is pretty simple with several New Orleans specialties, but for the most part it's a steak house! My wife and I spit the Seared Crab Cake - Louisiana jumbo lump crabmeat, white ravigote, roasted corn purée. You're not getting any filler or crap with this crabmeat. It was all fresh local jumbo lump crabmeat that went well with the lightly acidic ravigote sauce. The thicker purée helped bind the meat together. Great start to the meal. I ordered the Prime Rib Eye and my wife the Petite Filet. We added Au Gratin - creamy layered potatoes, fresh thyme, Gruyère & sharp cheddar gratinee and sautéed mushrooms. Everyone's food came out at the same time except for mine. Our bumbling server said I got you, 30 seconds a half a dozen times. When my steak finally arrived (5-7 minutes later), compared to my friend who got the same cut of steak, mine had a lot of fat. My wife enjoyed her Petite Filet and the sides were ridiculously good. Drink wise I would recommend the Sazerac. They'll give you some nice whiskey/bourbon choices for it. I believe I went Buffalo Trace. Side note - two friends in the group ordered the Chateaubriand (20oz. tenderloin) and reported it to be a great meal to split if your going to splurge. They enjoyed the three house made sauces that came along with it and could barely finish everything on the serving plate. Overall, it was a great relaxing night with friends over a good meal. Took a star off for our server. I'm sorry, but when you go a "premier" steakhouse food everyone's food should come out on time and the server should be on point. I used to frequent this restaurant every year when my wife and I vacationed in New Orleans. I always crave their coconut cake. They close at 10pm and raced there to get a slice of cake to go. I got there at 9:55 pm. I asked the hostess (of which there 3) if I could just order a slice to go and she informed me they closed at 10 p.m. The place was still filled with people at tables who were likely to order dessert. Easily could have been a five... simple mistakes. I first thought this would be similar to a Palm steakhouse, Morton's etc. Not quite the same ambience. The food is fine, no knocks on a perfect Old Fashion and Dirty martini. Simple mistakes: waiter did not ask how we wanted our steaks cooked. I am sure the kitchen did because he had to come back and ask. Then wine list is exhausting. 100s of bottles. Lowest might be $56 most are starting at $130, average $200 to $4-500, some at $2200. Waiter had no knowledge of different wines other than they cost more. I have never understood why restaurants do not write a bio under each wine explaining its flavor, complexity,Palate, finish etc. Example hints of leather, pepper, black raspberry and a high tannin, oaky Smokey Bordeaux or Cabernet entices you to eat more steak. Have not been to a supposed quality facility in a long time where the staff used their bare hands for everything & never saw them wash their hands. Ice, fruit, olives & everything else is grabbed with bare hands, & a lime sitting along with other fruit appeared to be molded. How often is the back bar, lamps & shades that sit on the bar actually cleaned? Have not visited for some time after being turned off by the appearance of the bar & entrance & won't return again.
