First time here, I'm basing my choice on the "26 Best Restaurants in New Orleans" list from Conde Nast Traveler. And don't think you're rolling off Bourbon Street wearing shorts and a tee shirt for dinner. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The Main and Second floor dining rooms, gentlemen are required to wear jackets after 5pm.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Hey, I brought my Searsucker Suit for the occasion. I planned ahead. We check in at the front desk and are shown to a small corner table. Our waiter, he has a personality. I can see he loves what he does and loves Galatoire's Restaurant. We order cocktails and to start, two Duck Crepes. The crepes are phenomenal. A simple crepe stuffed with roasted duck and topped with a homemade boursin cheese port-cherry reduction. Simple and award winning. My wife ordered the Speckled Trout Almondine and I ordered the Grilled Redfish. Each dish was masterfully prepared, the almonds were toasted, a little smokey and covered the entire fish. My Grilled Redfish, from the sauce to the tasteful presentation, this dish was a standout. The waiter comes over and asks how everything so far? He asked what was our special occasion? I said its our wedding anniversary, he comes back with two champaign flutes and had the entire restaurant toast us. It just made the experience extra special. We split a decadent French Silk Pie. A dessert that was perfect ending to our delicious meal. Just a fantastic night and all the details made our trip memorable. The restaurant dishes are famous for lasting the test of time. However sometimes the best recipes of 150 years ago are not tasty to a modern palate. I like a heavy cream and butter as much as anyone but the amount in their dishes with the added salt is a heal heartstopper. I also found the food overly sweet. [[HIGHLIGHT]]This is a men's wear jacket kind of place and then if the jacket is a blazer rather than a suit jacket, you may end up in the second dining room, which is fine. I find the second dining room room to be much more romantic and stylish myself.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The weight stop is very attentive, although not up to the level of like a Commanders, Irene's or GW Fins. The duck dish is a bit sweet and the meat tasted too injected. The foil gras was delicious and accompanied with a great sweet chutney but oddly served on a donut puff. This was another New Orleans staple that I wanted to mark off my bucket list, and as I have heard from others, it was easy to see why they have been serving NOLA since 1905. I've been wanting to come here for years. I love all the videos and history on this place and it did not disappoint. Told my husband that brunch here wasn't just brunch... its an experience in itself. And it was.... all three hours worth! We arrived early and they were happy to seat us right away. It was like coming home after a long time away. Service was perfect, as was the food. And the champagne. Our server even comped us an extra glass when we told her it was our anniversary. We had three courses, and they were all to die for... Turtle soup was the best I ever had, as were the oysters... cooked of course. I can't eat sea boogers. Galatoire's was on our list because it shows up in so many "best places in New Orleans" guides, and the atmosphere really is lovely. The dining room feels classic and elegant, and the tuxedoed waiters definitely add to that old-school charm. That said, the food didn't quite live up to the setting. We ordered several of the specials, and none of them stood out. The highlights of the meal were actually the cocktails and the bread pudding. The turtle soup was a miss, unfortunately. It was very bitter, and it gave a bad first impression since it was my friend's first time trying it. I'd honestly skip ordering turtle soup here and save that experience for somewhere like Commander's Palace. The garlic trout was fine but forgettable. The crab maison was a little better, but still nothing memorable. The shrimp remoulade was not good. The horseradish completely overpowered everything else, and it just didn't work. There are plenty of places in New Orleans that do this dish much better. The bread pudding, though, was excellent. Truly the one standout and the only dish I'd go back for. Service was kind, attentive, and efficient, and we never felt rushed. Overall, it's an okay place. It feels like Galatoire's relies a lot on its beautiful ambience, history, and polished service to carry the experience rather than the food itself. My friend and I wanted to try Galatoire's since it's so iconic, and we enjoyed it! The menu had so many options to choose from, and we ordered 3 appetizers and a main meal each. We really loved our appetizers - we especially enjoyed the Canape Lorenzo, it was so unique tasting and flavorful. For my main, I ordered the Chicken Creole, and I really liked it. Centrally located on bourbon, right in the heart of all excitement, Galatoires is a step into a relaxed, upscale setting. Despite an issue with our original reservation that caused us to have to reshuffle our afternoon plans, we wound up having an amazing experience! When our group returned two hours later we were greeted by a jazz brass ensemble parading through the restaurant and the patrons dancing at their seats. Our party of four was promptly seated at great table in the middle of all the action. Do not come for Friday lunch if you intend for a peaceful and quiet experience. This is a loud and in your face kind of fun! Brian our server, along with his busing team, was a total pro! He was gracious, attentive, and above all a great addition to the lively atmosphere. The Friday lunch is quite rowdy, but, that's the entire point! This is the time and place to be seen!!! I've never gone to Galatoires for anything but the revelry yet was wildly surprised at how delicious the food was this trip. Not sure if they have a new chef or whats changed in the kitchen, but it was definitely noticeable. Escargot appetizer was probably the most flavorful I've had anywhere. The Foie Gras, fried Drum Amendine, grilled trout amendine, and Ribeye were all spectacular. The cocktails were made perfectly and they have an impressive wine selection that will appeal to the most discerning wine enthusiast. Let me start off by saying - this place came highly recommended to us, so we were very excited to give it a try. We are not the type of couple to regularly attend restaurants with dress codes, so we were looking forward to a higher-end dining experience. I am giving 3 stars instead of 2 because I recognize some of the things I am about to mention were outside of the restaurants control, and were circumstantial to the evening we chose, but regardless, the evening did not align with our hopes. We made reservations over a week in advance, and showed up to our reservation exactly on time. Despite this, we were seated in the far back in a corner directly next to the kitchen and restrooms. Not an ideal place to sit! Lots of traffic and it definitely interrupted the mood, considering there was a lot of people stumbling in and out of the restrooms. Maybe okay for someone without a reservation, but I was disappointed. Immediately upon being seated, I noticed the dirty table cloth. I am not talking a few crumbs or one stain. There was red sauce and oil all over the table cloth, it looked like the table had not been cleaned before we were seated. I was a little unhappy with this, as I have honestly never seen that at a nicer restaurant. Maybe I am out of touch ‍. There were several large parties seated in the middle of the restaurant. I haven't mentioned yet, but I will note as a positive - the inside of the restaurant is absolutely stunning. Well lit, tasteful decorations, overall very pretty and creates a nice ambiance. Every 10 or so minutes, a waiter would come out, get everyone's attention, and announce why a large party was dining here. While we were there, they made 4 or so separate announcements, resulting in two full renditions of happy birthday being sung, and several minutes of cheering after an anniversary was announced. While one time would have been fine, the back to back celebrations created a very "Red Robin" style atmosphere that made it feel more like a cheap party restaurant than the higher class dining experience we were looking for. The cheering also interrupted our conversation making it difficult to talk. The service was not noteworthy. Our waiter was nice, and relatively quick. Our appetizer of escargot came out before the bread. We did not order drinks. The escargot was delicious. I ordered shrimp etouffée, which I very much enjoyed. My partner ordered crab au gratin which I tried and we both also enjoyed. We chose to skip dessert because we were not thrilled with our experience. We instead walked to Arnaud's for dessert and found a much better atmosphere and very happily enjoyed our crème brûlée there. I've always been a fan of Galatoire's. I've visited on every trip to the Quarter over the years. The food is excellent, the service is usually top-notch, and it's one of those places that feels timeless--like nothing has changed since my first visit 15 years ago. This time, however, the experience was deeply disappointing. I made a lunch reservation months in advance for a party of five visiting from out of town. Knowing Galatoire's reputation, I advised the men in our group to pack blazers. The morning of our reservation, we called the restaurant directly to confirm whether turtlenecks or cashmere sweaters were permitted with a blazer in the dining room. We were told no, very clearly, that this would not be allowed. While disappointed, my friends understood and respected that Galatoire's maintains a strict dress code. As a result, our party of five became a party of two. The maître d' understood why our reservation had shrunk and seated us promptly. The dining room was about 50% full throughout our lunch, so it was easy to notice who was coming and going. To my surprise, a man wearing a suit with a beige turtleneck was seated shortly after we arrived. I shrugged it off and continued enjoying lunch. About 45 minutes later, another guest entered the dining room wearing blue jeans, a white long-sleeve T-shirt, and a baseball cap. Three of my friends flew across the country and packed proper suits, only to be turned away for not meeting the dress code. Meanwhile, others were clearly allowed in wearing attire that blatantly contradicted what we were told. This inconsistency genuinely ruined what should have been a special first visit to Galatoire's for my friends. The issue isn't the dress code--it's that the rules are enforced selectively. That's incredibly frustrating when guests are turned away after making every effort to comply. I'm sharing a photo of the guests mentioned so management can understand how upsetting this is for patrons who are denied entry based on standards that are apparently optional. The fish was a wee bit dry but acceptable given the number of people they were serving. The filet with potatoes was perfectly cooked and flavored. The bread pudding really stole the show, very rich. Galatoire's is a classic, for all of the right reasons: its creole centered menu, waiters in tuxedos, classic cocktails, big wine menu, the intimate setting, the professional service. Those same traits could also equal stuffy and predictable. But the food makes sure that this place still rocks. Yes you have to try the oysters Rockefeller--the creamed spinach is that good. But also leave room for the main courses. They are so filling and so rich in flavor. My blackened redfish topped by shrimp etouffee was one of the best fish dishes I have ever had in the French Quarter. The crab cakes were so rich--all killer no filler. And it is such a lovely room, an oasis of goodness in the morass of Bourbon Street. And keep the Sazerac cocktails coming, expertly mixed and reasonably priced. Beyond a wonderful experience at Galatoire's celebrating our anniversary yesterday. Before even taking our drink order was taken we were brought champagne free of charge! Our waitress Patricia was one of the best I've ever had bar none and the food was spectacular. She made excellent recommendations for dinner and drinks as well as other restaurants for the rest of our trip. The rest of the wait staff provided excellent service. The food was obviously outrageous, highlights were sweetbreads and blackened redfish, and our favorite of the desserts was the bread pudding à la mode. My husband and I visited here, and were seated in the back of the restaurant. We celebrated his birthday and genuinely enjoyed our time sitting next to another couple that we did not know, doing the same. We greatly enjoyed our seafood, particularly the gumbo. Their food has never disappointed, but service is where the star drops off due to inconsistency. They are not consistent with getting drinks or food. They are spotty, and it is a mess going in and out of the kitchen with lots of people. Despite the service, we still love the food, and that is what carries this place. Also, dress to impress. Galatoire's is a strong candidate for my favorite restaurant in the United States, among the several hundreds I have sampled. And for good reason! Upon arriving for dinner at our reservation time, we were immediately ushered to a table for two on the first floor. It took awhile to receive menus, but then the fun began. We had to ponder numerous delectable-sounding offerings, and listed prices were surprisingly low based on California and Nevada menu prices for comparable listed items. Appetizers included Souffle Potatoes, Shrimp Remoulade, Crawfish Maison, Fried Oysters with Bacon and Meuniere Butter, Shrimp Cocktail, Oysters Rockefeller, Escargot, and Foie Gras. We selected Souffle Potatoes and Shrimp Remoulade. The Souffle Potatoes were like large and light golden potatoes draped over pockets of air, and the shrimp dish featured huge Shrimps covered in a mild Remoulade. As another preliminary, I ordered a Bowl of Duck and Andouille Sausage Gumbo, which turned out to be the best non-seafood gumbo I have ever eaten. It was silky and delicious, augmented by some Steamed White Rice. For entrees we had even more intriguing choices, including Chicken Clemenceau with Brabant Potatoes, Chicken Creole, Crab Ravigote with Bechamel and Hollandaise Sauces, Shrimp Au Vin, Crab Au Gratin, Bouillabaise, Crawfish Etouffe, Fried Shrimp, seasonal fresh fish with Meuniere Sauce, Meuniere Amandine, or Lemon Caper Beurre Blanc, Filet Mignon, Prime Ribeye, New York Strip, Veal Chop, and Lamb Chops. For our mains at this purveyor of top-grade Creole cuisine, we selected Chicken Clemenceau and Crab Au Gratin, which contained Bechamel Sauce and Cheddar Cheese. Diane very much liked her choice of entree augmented by a large side of Hash Browns, and I loved my Roasted Half Chicken with Mushrooms, Brabant Potatoes, Peas, and Clemenceau Sauce and a large side of Steamed Cauliflower. This time we both passed on dessert, and without a time crunch, elected to walk back to our hotel. Our fellow diners leaned toward coats & ties, with women in fashionable dresses. For dessert, I love their bread pudding but I also love to order ice cream w| an espresso martini shot, then add the shot to my ice cream. It is a whole spin on the vanilla ice cream. Of all the restaurants in New Orleans, I chose this one to celebrate a graduation dinner because, like other reviewers, it had been on my bucket list for a long time, but I had just never gotten here. I received several texts reminding me of the reservation and the dress code... Even a link to the dress code itself. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Well, imagine my surprise when we arrived at this restaurant and were seated (by a not so welcoming host) in a back room. It's a nice room and to be honest it was quieter and that was preferable.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] However, I spotted a couple men not wearing jackets. I asked our server and was told that jackets are not required in the back room. So what is the point of sending all these reminders and requiring an 87-year-old man to walk around New Orleans heat jacket if this is not even a policy that you follow? Why not give people the option to book in the non-jacket room? The food was fine. Service was adequate for what was expected. But this experience was not special at all. We were asked if we were celebrating anything, but it wasn't recognized with say a complementary dessert or a celebratory drink for the graduate. Contrast this with Merils where we got cotton candy and a cool sparkler a couple days prior. I really was on the fence about this one. It is a restaurant loved by many and I had been waiting to try it out. My friends and I decided to have a festive holiday dinner on a Friday. Our reservation was for 8pm...we weren't seated for another 40 minutes..not a great start at all. They gave us a glass of champagne for the inconvenience. We sat in the main dining room..super festive and energetic. Nice holiday decor. We shared the eggplant sticks and oysters. I think they really need to change the look of the oysters...they don't look appetizing at all!! Flavor was on par with the way they looked. Eggplant was good. The menu wasn't really speaking to my tastes that night so a friend and I split a steak and the eggs sardou. Both were DELICIOUS. Ended the night with a great cup of coffee. Overall I had a good time mainly because of the company. I would be willing to give it another go..maybe for a nice midweek lunch. read more

Galatoire's is a true New Orleans classic, and rightfully so. The experience feels timeless from the moment you walk in. It's elegant without being stiff, lively without being chaotic, and everything about it feels steeped in tradition. I went in knowing it was a historic spot, but what surprised me most was how warm and welcoming the staff was. The service is top tier, and everyone from the host to the servers makes you feel like you belong there. The food is rich, flavorful, and well-executed. I had the shrimp and grits and it was exactly what I wanted it to be. Classic flavors, no shortcuts, no gimmicks. The Rockefeller oysters are a must, and the desserts, especially the bread pudding, are worth saving room for. It's one of those places where the energy in the room is just as important as what's on your plate. It's not quiet or overly formal, it's vibrant and alive. You go for the food, but you remember the feeling. The one thing I wish they did better is advertise the timing for the second line lunch. Reservations are new post-COVID and the first time I went, I missed the second line because I didn't know what time to book. This was our 2nd year here and we 1000% will be coming back. The food is amazing and so is the service. I got the duck again and wish I could take it home with me daily. The oysters Rockefeller were also amazing they are cooked to perfection. For men you will have to keep your jacket on the full time. If you don't have one they will provide one. read more

This restaurant was all over the place. It's on Bourbon Street by a strip club and some very loud clubs so off the bat it didn't seem too appetizing, but then the inside is upscale and posh though there's also a separate dining room that seemed very casual. We had the Galatoire Goute, which is a must. Everything was delicious and so fresh. We also had the duck and andouille gumbo followed by the shrimp etouffee. Come for the food, stay for the people watching! Best views are in the bar and they serve the full menu, Bartender Stevie is a diamond!!! fantastic service! Reservations are a must for dinner in high season. The place is LOUD and upbeat but they have a few different rooms for dinning, so maybe check with the fantastic hostess Majesty ... she can give you suggestions on where to sit and dress code!
