    Foster banana dessert
    Karen L.

Excellent service and a surprise find for us with this spot. I had lunch and came right at opening. Small line but plenty of seating that went quick. The staff was so nice to give a small bite on the house as we waited in between a dish. Everything was flavorful. I especially love the crab beignets that were creamy and not fishy at all. The grits were a little on the saltier side for my liking but otherwise very good with a smokey flavor to the sauce. The today special for dessert was a banana foster cream puff sort of option that was also wonderful to have. So light and not overly sweet.

I have been looking forward to this for far too long, and probably overemphasized the importance of the meal. Anyway, I ate here 12-13 years ago when I was a tourist. 5 stars, but it was after I had seen Anthony Bourdain there. I ordered the same meal he had. I also had a $20 bourbon. Anyway, this time..different story. Came in for lunch (in Jan 26), so, not busy. I was seated at the window. It was a chilly day, and was colder next to the window, but..ok. Decided on 2 apps: Stone Ground Grits... and a Baguette, with herb butter. Both, great tasting. The grits, very hearty. Was a bit lacking in salt, and I like pepper in it also. Waiting to flag down a server to ask for salt and pepper (why isnt it on the table?) left the grits for a few minutes, so it got cold. I prefer the baguette to be cut through completely. Don't want to tear it. THE ENTREE: The special, the fish sandwich sounded good, but I was set on the LPG cheeseburger. My server asked if everything on the burger was OK. I said yes. When the burger came out there was no knife to cut it, so another wait while the burger got cold. The burger as it's on the menu is a little wet to pick up and eat as a burger. I got 2 bites before it fell apart. I cut up and ate the rest with fork and knife. With the brown mustard and arugula, a little vinegary and bitter. The bottom bun was just wet, so I left it alone with the mustard on it. Disappointed in the burger, fries were just ok. Service was slow for the amount of customers, and salt and pepper should be on the table. Re-examine the wetness of the burger. I really was hoping it would be great.

This place has been a little New Orleans gem for a long time now. Come to find out my SO had never been here so I suggested that as an option for her birthday lunch. The vibe is very old New Orleans fancy restaurant. Someplace you'd take a client for a working lunch that kinda thing. Our waitress was very nice and knowledgeable about the menu. They asked for allergies and dietary restrictions, which was nice as my SO has a shrimp allergy. Started out with the blue crab beignets the were so creamy and fluffy definitely recommend as a light starter. Next we split the mussels the sauce had so much flavor and we got an extra ciabatta slice so we could both have our own to dip. For my main I've always gotten the burger. It has been a good many years since I've been and the burger was everything I remembered.

La Petite Grocery was recommended to me by locals. The inside is super charming & quaint - feels like a homey bistro. Service was great. We ordered some specials off the menu including the pumpkin bisque and gnocchi appetizer, both of which were amazing. The crab beignets were the best thing I've had in a while. I could eat 12 of these - seriously. For mains, i opted for the duck breast which was off the special menu. While the duck was cooked perfectly, the portion was super small for the $50 price. There was just 2 slices of the duck breast. Also tried the rabbit dish - which to our surprise just tasted like a chicken cutlet. The burger had too much mustard on it, and my dad is a fan of mustard. Did not recommend. Fries were 10/10, chefs kiss. Shrimp and grits were great though. I'd recommend for a nice dinner date or client lunch, but beware since portions are SUPER small (see photos).

This place has vestiges of a four star place, but overall for the average consumer, I have to give 3. Everything that the staff does is a 5 star. It was all perfect, from hostess to bar staff to the cooks; especially the cooks. They cooked the rabbit I had to perfection. My issue is with the people in charge. The prices are too high and the portions are two small. 40 dollars gets essentially two paper thin rabbit cutlets. They were tasty, but not only too small, but way too pricey. I've never liked capers before this, but they made it work for me. The restaurant itself is beautiful and had a since atmosphere. This is just a place where the markup is ridiculous. If you have a lot of disposable income you will not feel as opinionated as me, but I try to review for the common person, and this place is just okay for us.

Shrimp and grits and the LPG Burger.

Very disappointed. Food is well below average. We got the ricotta dumplings (4/10), French baguette (6/10), the Burger (4/10), and shrimp and grits (2/10). Burger had no taste and the shrimp and grits tasted citrusy and fruity, which is not what I look for in shrimp and grits. I could barely finish the meal because the taste was so bad. I finished because the bill was $124. I will say the dessert (butterscotch pudding (8/10) was delicious, and the service was great and super friendly and the ambience was excellent as well., but the taste of the food was one of the worst I have had in a while. Maybe we got the wrong things, but we got a lot. Please change the recipe of the shrimp and grits. I will not be returning.

I decided that I wanted to do my birthday lunch at La Petite Grocery this year since it's been on my list of places to try for years. I'm glad we had a reservation because it quickly filled up inside. We decided to start with the blue crab beignets they were fabulous but you only get 3 per order so plan how many orders you need accordingly. We also got the special starter of mussels with charred ciabatta bread and omg I could have used a basket of bread to get up all the sauce it was so good. For my main dish I got the paneed rabbit. I've never had rabbit before and it was similar to chicken. The sauce and purée were delicious and pair well with the crunchy rabbit. Since it was my birthday they brought out a scoop of blackberry basil sorbet with a candle in it. I'd love to go back for dinner sometime.

Braised Beef Short Rib, white beans, turtle bolognese
    Jackie S.

Went to La Petite Grocery to celebrate my partner's birthday and our first day in New Orleans. We were looking forward to our reservation give the high reviews and their James Beard award, and while the meal, service and ambiance was nice... there was not much that felt special from other $$$ American restaurants that would justify the price for me, especially with the plethora of amazing food on Magazine Street. The service was professional and the drinks were good (albeit pricey but not unexpected). The best thing we ordered were the blue crab beignets, which were flavorful and indulgent. For entrees we ordered the braised short rib and turtle bolognese. Both were good-- short rib was tender and flavorful, and turtle bolognese was well seasoned and pasta was al dente, but also tasted as if it wasn't boiled in salty enough water so a little bland. The white beans side had flavor but was also on the drier side. One thing that bothered me slightly was that I put birthday as the special event we were celebrating, and the hostess even mentioned it at the door. However the waitress never said anything about it, and when we ordered dessert, there was no candle or anything special. I don't expect the dessert to be comped (and it was not) but if the staff does not care about special events then they shouldn't ask for the information. Overall though we had an enjoyable time and enjoyed the food, but probably would not return given the other options in the area.

The menu is fantastic. Recommend going with a group to order multiple plates. The portions of the small plates are good for sharing but the real winner of the night were the Blue Crab Beignets.. I'll forever be dreaming of them. We ordered it for appetizers and then ordered more for our dessert. It's an absolute must!! Ambience is cute, date night friendly or group dinner. The staff was super friendly.

    Shrimp and grits

Color me impressed. Everything about my dining experience was exceptional, from the cocktails, to the service, to even the dessert. My waitress, Bean, had excellent recommendations and didn't steer me wrong. She was friendly, warm and attentive. I had the shrimp and grits for my entree. The grits were perfectly fluffy in a light, lemony sauce. The mushrooms and bacon added a salty/umami kick to the dish. I typically don't get dessert, but the chocolate tart was described as being like a "Twix bar" and who can resist that? It was delicious, complete with the chocolate cookie crumbles that we all love. I would go back just for the dessert alone. All in all, an A+ experience. I will be back.

    Butterscotch Pudding
    Courtney K.

I can't say enough good things about this place. It's my favorite uptown restaurant. Their restaurant week menu was surely the best in town. Service is always warm and attentive. The creole tomato soup has ruined me for tomato soup for life, the fusilli was an excellent entree, and my husband had the perfectly prepared fish. The only time I don't order chocolate for dessert is when I come to LPG because the butterscotch pudding is life changing. My husband had the special sorbet which was creamy and delicious!

Sazarac and Blue Crab Beignets. Beignets were light, fluffy, and full of crab. Definitely a must try.
    Tom K.

Excellent savory beignets! Special was a blue crab beignet that was light and crispy with lots of filling. The rabbit was an excellent choice. It was lightly batter and serviced with veggies and a purée. Sat at the bar and were served quickly. Great alternative to sit down service. Inside is upscale and classy. Great lunch spot.

I am not going to go into details as it has been covered in photos and other reviews. The outside ambience was perfect with heat lamps - on a chilly night no one needed a coat. The lighting was soft/perfect and once you entered into the wooden door you are transported into a different world. I would recommend this for family, business meeting or date night. She was a bit chatty but still nice. The menu wasn't extensive at all. The waitress did a good job at selling many of the menu options. I initially had the chicken with carrots and brussel sprouts. The vegetables were perfectly cooked and flavored well. The chicken however was very dry. When the waitress asked how it was, I told her how dry it was and she immediately bright me something else, which was the fish and chips. The fish was hot, crispy, and cooked to perfection. It was tender, however it lacked flavor and seasoning. I asked for hot sauce but never received it. I finally decided to ask for a to go box to take the remaining piece home. The chips "fries" were great. They were freshly cut real potato fries. They were hot and seasoned well. My significant other had the shrimp and grits which he thoroughly enjoyed. As an appetizer we had the salad. Seemed simple and basic enough but was actually very good. I'm unsure of the dressing it was tossed in but it was just enough and well flavored. We skipped on dessert. We considered the cookie plate but since nobody could tell us what kind of cookies they were, so we decided to pass. The best part about our dining experience was the ambiance. The music was nice and the decor was vibrant and swanky . I also had a mocktail flavored with pineapple, jalapeno, lime, mint, and cilantro. It was refreshing. I'm glad we had a chance to check it out before closing but I can honestly say there was no "WOW" factor and likely I wouldn't have been in a hurry to come back.

We had the skirt steak and king Salmon with a side of fries and stuffed potatoes. The skirt steak was cooked to medium and it was amazingg! Pam asked how I'd like it cooked and suggested it to be cooked at medium rare. I couldn't do that since I'm barely starting to get used to my steaks being cooked at medium, but it was still absolutely delicious. The sauce that was glazed on top, as well as the seasoning of the steak killed it!! The salmon was also delicious. Very flavorful. In spite of the Yelp ratings, that should have been a huge red flag. Ordered the Old Fashioned from the menu that was very good. Tried to find a bottle of Cabernet for under $150. There were none and only one cab by the glass at $30, so we opted for that (that same bottle sold for $165...math doesn't add up). The menu does not have a lot of variety. No garden salad, so I started with the gumbo. It was good, but would have been better with some bread. We each ordered the ribeye medium with a side of mushrooms and a twice baked potato. The sides were excellent, but the steak was over cooked. To make matters worse, our server was not paying attention so I had to ask another to have our server or a manager come over. The manager came by and promptly took both steaks away to have them remade and comped us another glass of wine. Nice gesture. However, the second steaks were no better than the first. I asked the manager if he really considered what we were looking at to be medium. He assured me it was and held the table light by the steak so I could see it better. You can see by the picture of the second steaks that it was not cooked right either. When the check came, they comped one of the steaks, but not both. Not sure what their logic was, as neither of us ate much of either. Told the server the same and Mr. Manager came back over with both comped.
