This is ABSOLUTELY my FAVORITE ice cream place in the Buffalo area.... maybe any area.... and this girl LOVES her ice cream! The frozen stuff as well as the sauces and the whipped cream are all home made. And that whipped cream is the stuff of which dreams are made. Sweet, but not too sweet. The perfect consistency. I could eat a big ol' bowl of just that and leave perfectly happy. There are many inventive ice cream flavors and sundae combinations, but I'm most happy with my usual: "The Chipped Chocolate": huge scoops of both vanilla and chocolate ice cream, chocolate sauce (believe it, or not, I'm not a huge fan of hot fudge... weird, I know), a mountain of whipped cream, and chocolate shreds (from their very own candy shoppe chocolate). Nothing says old fashioned to me like sharing a sundae with your favorite person. Then again nothing says modern to me like saying "I want a whole one" and making them get their own! Antoinette's has the distinction of being one of the few suburban places I truly crave, as I tend to find what I want within city limits with limited exceptions. Whatever your sweet-tooth preference, Antoinette's has an ice cream flavor for you, from traditional favs to more unusual picks like peanut butter pretzel and orange pineapple. If you are used to paying for soft serve and "blizzards" at places like Dairy Queen this may seem a tad steep in price. However, their sundaes are a great value when you consider former Allentown staple Sweet Tooth charged nearly as much for two scoops of Perry's with some PB drizzle as A's does for a HUGE sundae with multiple toppings and homemade ice cream (courtesy of local-ish wonder Charlap's). They are so big and decadent I take half home, freeze, and eat the next day if my cohort doesn't want to share. Their whip cream is always REAL and their toppings are delectable. Their candy/chocolates are comparable in price and quality to several local anchor shops but Tom does it cheaper at Bella Mia's on Hertel - he makes almost everything in house himself, and it is just as good. Getting stuff directly from Fowler's in Black Rock is often cheaper comparably to some of their stuff as well, and also awesome. The shop is clean, comfortable and has that great vintage vibe I love. Generally friendly staff (even the younger folks). Simple but comfortable, and shaded, outside seating as well. My only real complaints are they could utilize the outside space better (lots of empty concrete/brick patio-ish area in front never used for anything that could be green space) and there is not a natural place for a line to form due to table placement, forcing people to sort of herd together near the counter. It's cool if you are near polite people who notice who came before them, but not everyone has manners. read more

On a quest for some Valentines Day treats, I decided on Antoinettes for a few reasons. They have a wide variety of treats for those of us with a sweet tooth. They make my favorite creams and truffles in Buffalo. They also have non-chocolate confections that are childhood favorites of mine(fruit slices and shoestring licorice). The staff is very friendly and helpful. I asked a question about the texture of a piece of candy. My question was answered, and without asking I was offered a piece to sample. Now candies are not the only thing offered here. They have ice cream year round with a seating area to enjoy it. Awesome home made ice cream. We came here last night and at a perfect time about 9PM on a Thursday ( I am sure this place is mobbed for weekends). Amazing and huge hot fudge sundae with delicious whipped cream and crushed cherries. Holy cow was this thing huge- but not as huge as I felt after eating it. My wife ordered a brownie sundae and this was even larger than mine! Its a nice old time place with a comfortable warm welcome feel and everyone left full and satisfied. They have an amazing chocolate candy area with so many delicious assortments of shapes ans sizes.If you have that ice cream fix this is the place to fix that need - A legendary place with the Lancaster area locals and when you hear that its all you need to know. But be careful and see if your size is appropriate when you order because you will easily get overfilled and sometimes thats not a bad thing either. read more

As far as ice cream sundaes are concerned- to me, of course- King Condrell's in Kenmore rates 5-stars. Antoinette's, though not bad, only rates 3 stars in comparison. Today the store was very busy with people stocking up on Easter chocolates. The girl that took our order (order at the counter first, then sit down) was not friendly at all and seemed less than thrilled that we were going to eat our ice cream there. I ordered a hot fudge sundae with peanut butter sauce and whipped cream. I didn't care for the peanut butter sauce. It was more like peanut flavored caramel than peanut butter sauce. The hot fudge was okay and I liked the whipped cream since it's really thick and not sweet. The ice cream was meh too. My mom got coffee ice cream and said it didn't taste like anything. I'm not a huge fan of their chocolates either because I think the chocolate is too sweet. I would put Watson's chocolate at 5 stars, Antoinette's at about a 3 star for chocolate as well. It is extremely deadly living so close to Antoinette's. I have to make sure to control myself since I drive by it 10 times a day. I will say that the people from around here talk it up like it is heaven in a dish, and it is good, but I think many people are disappointed because of the way it is hyped up. If your a die hard ice cream lover like myself then this place is a must without a debate. Only complaint was that my ice cream cost around $7 but the portion was huge. The ice cream and whipped cream is all homemade and I could taste the difference right away from store bought brands. There is really nothing else I can say that people have not said already. This place is absolutely phenomenal. The chocolate is absolutely delicious, and they have so many varieties. I love that they have diabetic varieties as well, it makes for a nice surprise for my family members who can't really eat sweets anymore. As a Buffalo staple the sponge candy is unreal. I have never had it before and honestly was a bit put off by it at first, but after one bite I am officially addicted. The best part about Antoinette's however is their whipped cream. There is a large candy and seasonal section and all of the ice cream is home made. Plenty of tables to sit at and always plenty of servers at the counter so you do not have to wait too long to order and be served. No table service but a fresh glass of water comes with each order and during Easter the amount and variety of molded bunnies and eggs are wonderous to look at. We drive all the way to Buffalo from Rochester because this is the best chocolate we've ever had, and we're definitely huge chocolate lovers! Their milk chocolate is fabulous, and they have a great selection to choose from as well as many other delectable sweets. The staff are so friendly and helpful. Especially when life is so unpredictable and challenging due to Covid 19, it was so refreshing to take a drive on a beautiful day to support on of our favorite local businesses using their curbside service and a friendly face. We have great memories of Antoinette's over the years and since we've moved back to the area we have looked forward to visiting. I understand that the "pandemic" has changed some things, but the woman who seemed to be in charge was short and rather rude with both customers and the staff. Perhaps it was an off day, but this is not a cheap endeavor regarding ice cream, we drove 50 minutes each way, and it was Mother's day. Ice cream was very good, but she could have been sweeter to the moms in the room. Won't be back for a while. Friendlier places to go to overspend on dessert, quite frankly. My husband and I stopped in here on a visit to see his parents in Elma for some ice cream. We split a banana split, which was all right - my husband had raved about the ice cream, so frankly I was disappointed. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't anything spectacular or memorable either, which is what I had been expecting after he talked it up so much. I also found the decor pretty depressing - everything is dark and drab. Just painting the walls a lighter color would go a long way towards making it feel more inviting inside. We did get some white chocolate candies to go, which were really rich and delicious. This is definitely the place to go if you're looking for chocolate goodies - the store was overflowing with tons of chocolate molded into a ton of different stuff - from rabbits to crosses to turtles, and a bunch of small candies as well. read more

Seven of us went for ice cream/ice cream sodas. Five of us ordered the sodas which I have had before and they were usually good. I had a coffee soda and when I took a sip it was flat with no carbonation and the soda had no coffee flavor - it was like slightly sweet water, terrible! My other family members had ordered raspberry sodas and said it had little raspberry flavor and was flat also. We told the server at the counter about our sodas and she said they were having problems with their carbonation fountain. So they knew there were problems with it and didn't tell the five people in our party so we wouldn't have ordered it! My husband ordered an ice cream sundae and said it wasn't good like it used to be- the ice cream wasn't creamy and tasty. The homemade candy is excellent. Sponge candy is of course a specialty here in Western New York. IMO their sponge is the best. What sets it apart is the perfect amount of chocolate around the sponge itself. Some places put too much chocolate on and it leaves the sponge inside hard and dried out. Antionettes style is perfect. If you want the best, you go to Antoinette's. It's that way now and it has been that was since day one. My Aunt worked here as a teenager. My parents used to take my brother and I for evening walks here for ice cream, we lived very close when I was a kid. My tastes have changed in the past 20ish years, I have graduated from chocolate on chocolate on chocolate, but Antoinette's is still THE place to go. Their ice cream and chocolates cannot even compare to any place around. Everything is homemade- the ice cream, the whipped cream and the chocolates. They have a flavor board on the side of the wall when you walk in. In the summer time, if you don't get the orange pineapple you are definitely messing up. It's to die for. For Easter, it's a ritual for my mom and I to go in there and look at the gigantic chocolate bunny. We have done so for my entire life and will continue, as I will with my children. This place has the classic ice cream parlour/ sweet shop ambiance. Their sponge candy is a religious experience. AND. They give you cups of water with your ice cream because honestly who can say they don't get thirsty when eating ice cream?! No one. That's who. If you want the best, come here. Went for a Valentine"s celebration. Wanted some place other than Anderson's - some place with atmosphere. My date had an ice cream sundae and I had two small scoops one vanilla one coffee. The ice cream is very creamy but had absolutely NO FLAVOR. I could not taste a difference between the coffee( which should have a strong flavor) and the vanilla which should have a sweet flavor. I have been in the Buffalo area several times and each time a visit to Antoinnette's is a must. The chocolate is incredible and so are the different flavors of ice cream.
