It's not secret that the drive from Sacramento to LA along I5 is long and boring with very few places to stop and get a decent bite to eat. This past weekend my husband pulled off into one of these nameless clusters of gas stations and fast food joints to fill up and get some food, I protested feeling like I remember hating this particular cluster - although, thinking back that might just be my feeling about the entire drive. I saw the sign for Antojitos and thought tacos and a horchata sounded good, so we went in. Despite having a worn-look, the establishment was clean. The staff we very friendly and kind and while they were fresh out of Horchata, we placed our order for a couple chicken tacos and a burrito. The food was up quickly and we got back in the car to continue our god-aweful journey. Upon unfolding the tin foil and munching down on the corn tortilla and spicy chicken meats, my tastebuds were met with a flavorful delight. It will now be the place we stop on our way to and from LA. God I love this place. We were driving down "boring" I-5 when I decided to use Yelp Mobile (disclaimer, I work for Yelp) to see if there was anything good at the next exit...amazingly we found Antojitos Mexicanos. This place is so authentic that you'd be forgiven for thinking you stepped into some sort of worm hole ("nerd alert" I know) and got teleported to Mexico. The place seems to be completely family run and they even make their own chips. My burrito was amazing and I'll definitely be going back here on my next road trip to LA. Based on the positive reviews here on Yelp, I finally decided to give this place a try. I moved to the Patterson area 2 years ago and have tried more than a few of the Mexican food restaurants in the surrounding area. This is the only time I can recall ever having to ask for a refund at a restaurant. I ordered a "super" burrito and I thought they made a mistake when they handed me a "super" SMALL burrito. I could not justify paying $9 for a Taco Bell bean sized burrito. Looking through the pictures others have posted here, the "super" burrito was nowhere near as big. Upon recommendation, we stopped here on the way up the 5 and it was amazing. The tacos al pastor are perfect and the tortillas don't fall apart. so glad yelp led us here, definitely going to come by again ASAP! Based on yelp reviews, we gave this place a try. Place was full of locals. We were both disappointed with the overall experience. Neither cashier nor server spoke english. We were overcharged for soda and meal and had great difficulty questioning the charges. Gordita was decent but bisteka mexicana was below expectations. Place felt dirty. No chips or salsa and we did not even see any bottles of hot sauce. Many of the patrons had the soup, so maybe we just chose poorly. I have only had their burritos and my goodness it's one of the best I've ever had! (Im a burrito junkie so my judgement should be trusted) The right amount of meat, rice, sauces, and not overloaded with beans. The place itself seems very authentic and the employees don't speak much English but their food speaks DELICIOUS! Tortillas are freshly made which is always a plus to me. If you're driving on highway 5, stop and give this place a try. You won't regret it. Minus one star for the cleanliness. Anyone who has made the trip from LA to San Francisco on I-5 can tell you, there's not much to see or do along the way and you're mostly only going to find fast food and mediocre greasy spoons to eat at along the way. SFGate published this restaurant as one of the best places to eat at when making a quick stop off of I-5 and I tend to agree. The service is friendly. The food is quite good (Most of the food is yummy. I usually like to eat things off a plate and avoid handheld foods when I'm eating out so I like to get the garlic fish with cactus. I do not, however, recommend the diablo shrimp (camarones a la diabla) since it's doused with a smoky, red, mild sauce that lacks flavor and detracts from the dish). The place is hard to see from the road so just look for the Subway Restaurant and pull into their parking lot. Once you're in the parking lot, you'll see that Antojito's shares the same building as Subway. My boyfriend and I were looking for a quick Mexican restaurant to satisfy our taco fix after coming back from Portland. Luckily, we were able to find a spot right off the 5 freeway that had good reviews. Out of convenience, we stopped in to satisfy our cravings. My boyfriend ordered the quesadilla with carnitas and chorizo mix and I ordered the chicken flautas. The total was more expensive than I had thought ($15 something). I gave the cashier a $20, but she told me that she had no change. Sooo, I went back in my purse *snap snap* and gave her one $5, one $10, and one $1. She opened the register and low and behold there was a lot of change with coins aaaaaannnnddd bills. Whatevs, no biggie, but just don't lie. The food came out in under ten minutes. My flautas arrived first. They were 5 corn tortillas with chicken stuffed in the middle and tomato and lettuce with sour cream and hot sauce on top. They were okay. The meat wasn't really seasoned Not bad. Not great. But something to satisfy the hunger. Next, was my boyfriend's quesadilla. It came out smoking hot with a side salad which was a nice touch. His quesadilla was fresh and the meat was well seasoned. We got the large size which abated my boyfriend's hunger. All in all, he thought the quesadilla wasn't bad, but not really impressionable. If you are in search for quick Mexican food and are driving back from the North beyond the wall, I would stop by since it is soo conveniently located. read more

If you like AUTHENTIC mexican food, this is the place! Yes it looks divey but the food is awesome! I have had their chile rellenos and the Super tacos and loved both. The chile relleno I would call my favorite. The proprietors genuinely care about your experience there and that means a lot to me. Another indicator of the food quality here is that there are many local hispanics that eat here as well. They have a TV and restrooms also. The Antojito's at the Westley, CA truck stop is already famous among I-5 commuters, but only a few people know about the relatively new offshoot opened in downtown Patterson. Sure it's a bit off the beaten path--or maybe it's your weekend trip to check out the Patterson Museum a stone's throw away? In any case Antojito's #2 is well worth the drive as in my opinion this is even better than the Westley location. Antojito's has *the best* carne asada burrito I've had--a perfect mix of ingredients and fresh cilantro to die for. Make sure to have them to throw the burrito on the grill for a few seconds after it's rolled up--this really brings out the flavor of the locally made tortillas. You'll no doubt be tempted by the rack of fresh baked empanadas, so leave a bit of room in your stomach and don't forget your insulin. Stopped by to use the bathroom and get a quick beer. This was one of the few yelped places in the area. What a great find. We weren't even hungry but my husband is addicted to carne asada tacos so we had to get a few! They were great! We were the only gringos in the place, but felt right at home. Traveling highway 5, it's hard not to succumb to the lure of fast food restaurants. So we hedged our bets and pulled off to choose between a familiar face (subway) for some authentic Mexican fare. So glad we did! We knew as soon as we walked in and saw World Cup on the tv and saw only locals dining there that we'd made the right choice. The beef tostado and chicken were home runs.And the beverage selection includes Mexican Coca-Cola. Yum. Don't pass this place up! read more

on a recent roadtrip from los angeles to napa valley, we stopped at several local eateries. the one that stands out the most is "antojitos mexicanos". located next door to subway sandwiches off i-5 in the small town of patterson, antojitos mexicanos appears to be a typical rustic diner in central california. what separates this place from other eateries is the inexpensive outstanding food. also, the staff are simply some of the friendliest people you'll come across. i ordered a mexican breakfast burrito and my other half ordered a mexican breakfast plate (sorry, but, i forget the name of it.) between the two of us, there was enough food to feed 4 people. the breakfast burrito was by far the best i've ever had. and my boyfriend concurred that his breakfast plate had a delicious home cooked taste to it. after we finished eating, we asked the owner if we could buy a bottle of their hot sauce. the kind owner insisted on letting us have the bottle. we just had terrific food at an affordable price and met a truly kind person. if you're traveling on i-5 and looking for a great mexican food, then i suggest stopping by antojitos mexicanos. it's a little hard to find since it's a little ways off the freeway plus the neighbouring subway sandwich shop overshadows antojitos mexicanos. set your navigation system and you'll find one of the best and affordable mexican restaurants north of the border. read more

What incredible food, very unexpected at this rest stopish area on I-5! so glad to have found this place on yelp, even if the directions from Google maps were wrong and we drove somewhere completely out of the way before finding it. We had the chicken burrito and tostada and both were amazing! I'm sad we are only driving one way to San Diego so don't get to come back!
