This restaurant was right across the street from the best western. It was conveniently located. The food was amazingly delicious. Their chips and salsa are complimentary and ask for the green sauce because it's delicious not spicy at all. I had the carne asada and ranchera style shrimp with a side of rice and beans the beans and rice were delicious as well. Total spent was around 20ish bucks. They have a bar with cocktails and beers. They have an electronic menu, they will give you a QR code. The bartenders was very attentive and so was the waitress. We were there during the week so it wasn't busy. Parking lot is big so no issues with that. They do have tv's in case you want to catch a game. read more

Service was sad at first, very busy, we should have ate at the bar( maybe 6 seats). Could tell there was a new girl working, she was wandering around looking lost, not cleaning tables, wasting time, not moving with a purpose. The one other waitress finally came over and took our order, we had ordered beers with lost waitress but 20 mins later nothing, she never came back to our table. The other waitress was nice and funny and she was on point except for the limes I asked for for my beer, beers were cold and refreshing. Chips good, salsa tasted canned watery with fresh green onions and bits of cilantro thrown in, it was meh but edible. Food was not good. Tasted burnt and not flavorful. It seems to me reading the poor reviews that the vast majority were left 1+ years ago. Those ratings certainly do not describe our recent experience, and to get it right out in front we WILL stop here again next time we're passing through town! In fact we found El Rosal given a next door business was closed; lucky us! The business is clean, open, bright and 'happy'. Service was excellent t and the server couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. There were two of us so we ordered the "SPECIAL COMBINATION" including a beef, taco, chile relleno, cheese enchilada and bean tostada with rice, beans with red sauce, all for $19.99. There was so much food it's served on two plates making it perfect to share. Not bad to feed two us of with exceptionally delicious food! Everything was excellent including the chips (I couldn't stop eating them). Everything is made in house and was excellent. I could eat a bowl of the ranchero sauce on the chile relleno as a bowl of soup it was so good! I will recommend this place to anyone and everyone I know going up and down I-5 and passing through Patterson, California! It's a winner with repeat business in my book! I'm sorry didn't take any pics. My resolution for next year is to not be so hungry I can take a few pics before digging in! read more

Staying overnight in Patterson, and this was the third place I called to order food from so first star comes just from being open and picking up the phone I ordered the Burrito Supreme with beef and 1/2 red, 1/2 green sauce with a side of guacamole. The total was under $14, which I feel like is very reasonably priced. The burrito was ready in less than 15 mins, and it came with crispy chips and salsa in the bag. (Woohoo!) The salsa is absolutely delicious, I wish I had 5 more containers of it. The burrito was HUGE and came with a generous dollop of sour cream. I feel like the burrito was slightly dry on the inside and I wish it had less rice and more beans, and the beef was just not quite as tender or seasoned as I wish it was, otherwise this entire experience would have been 5 stars. Who would have thunk it? Our breakfast stop when we traveled from Walnut Creek to San Diego has a nice Mexican Restaurant called El Rosal. After putting in 10+ hours of driving from Oregon we stop in Patterson to spend the night and get some dinner before we complete our trip home to Temecula the next day. We enter El Rosal and it is a nice building with bar and room in the round for dining. We grab a table and chips + salsa are brought to us lickety-split. Chips are crunchy and the salsa is bursting with flavor. We order Coors Light and it arrives with the mountains as blue as blue can be. So far, this is a damn good night. For dinner, I order the carnitas and my wife the chili verde. As we order our second Coors Light and request more chips + salsa our dinner arrives. The carnitas are plentiful and my wife gets a decent size bowl of chili verde. My carnitas are tasty as is the chili verde. Beans and rice are way above average and the salsa brings everything together. Staff are attentive and we notice the man tending bar goes above and beyond to make sure everyone in the restaurant is enjoying themselves. El Rosal was a nice surprise and we will for sure return. A solid 4 stars, it would have earned 5 stars if my carnitas were crispy. Perhaps next trip. read more

I forgot to take pictures, but would highly recommend. Margaritas were equally wonderful and only $6.95! I give this a 4 star because service is slightly slow, but extremely friendly. Definitely one of our favorite spots in Patterson. Right of highway 5, it's a great place to sit down and unwind. They have sports bar and a lot of seating to be with the family. The staff is friendly and inviting, and the food seals the deal. Food is fresh and authentic. We are staying across the road and hadn't tried El Rosal so we went even though reviews were 5 then 1. I was wondering why the bizarre reviews. Our server, Sara (?),came immediately, got our drink orders & brought warm chips & a good salsa. No waiting at all! We ordered chicken fajitas served with all the fixings and Combination #2-which was a Chili Relleno, a taco (we picked carne asada), a bean tostada, an Enchilada (we picked chicken) that came with beans & rice. We hoped to have enough for a second meal. We could hear the fajitas sizzling & smell all the great smells coming from the kitchen. We were gaining hope! In less time than we could eat all the chips & salsa, the sizzling platter of chicken fajitas came out first with a platter with the chili relleno & enchilada with rice & beans. She brought a second set of platters with the guacamole-pico de gallo & lettuce and another with the tostada & taco. Then she brought the tortillas! Our table was full!! The chicken fajitas were beautifully caramelized. The browned chicken, onions & peppers were so good! Yum!! The chili relleno was amazing (& I am soooo picky!) covered with a green salsa. The taco & tostada were crunchy & full of flavor-although, next time, I would like the green salsa on the side so I can add what I want or red salsa so they have a different taste. We boxed the chili relleno except for the one bite I had to try ;) and enchilada with the leftover & extra tortillas we bought for 95 cents! Very cheap! We even took some salsa & chips left so we have a good dinner when we are stuck in the middle of nowhere! So glad we tried El Rosal! It was a delightful surprise. We have just moved to Patterson this last month and decided to try this restaurant. Patterson is still very small and there aren't many options in the area for Mexican food. The place is very clean and organized. You're given chips, salsa , and refried beans at the table. I wasn't a fan of the salsa but beans were good. I ordered carne Asada and grilled shrimp (16.99) I wasn't really impressed with this but it was good portion size. The carne Asada was tough and lacked seasoning. Shrimp was butterflied and grilled and was pretty good but lacked seasoning. The side of beans and rice were okay, but I wasn't a fan of the rice. Overall the atmosphere won over my review because I enjoy a clean environment for my meals, the food was average. Nothing great; nothing terrible. read more

El Rosal denied service to a disabled veteran and his service dog. The Veteran is blind in one eye and deaf. The dog is a small 6lb hearing alert dog in his carry case. If the dog can't see it's owner and handler, he will not be able to perform his duty. The carrying case keeps the animal from sitting directly on public seats and transportation. The man in charge of the restraunt attempted to seperate the dog from his owner. We tried to show him the dog's legal service dog i.d. and doctor's documentation. The man in charge refused to even look at the documents. Instead, he insisted I move the case off the chair and onto the floor. Then he pulled the waitress aside and instructed her to walk up to the dog's case and kick it hard. The server kicked the dogs bag with her foot and when the dog yelped, the man yelled out for the entire restraunt to hear...."this is not a service dog! Service dog's don't bark." He didn't bark, he yelped from being kicked! This Navy Vet was traveling 1,800 miles to do ministry work at the Mexican border. He stopped in Patterson to meet with some of his ministries supporters. The dog and Veteran have traveled 10,000 miles together in ministry and have never encountered such discriminating and rude service. We will never be back nor will the family and friends of the supporters who witnessed their cruel treatment. I don't know your name sir but I do know this. Once you get done paying the ADA's $75,000.00 fine for discrimination, and refusal to serve a disabled person, you'll be lucky to keep this place open. You had a choice to look at the documents but chose instead to make a fool of yourself. read more

Been a loyal fan of El Rosal for as long as I can remember but today is a sad day, as I will not be feasting there from here onward. :( During this quarantine I was so happy to have my favorite restaurant included in the DoorDash selection but quickly realized that after I was placing my order, My price from the restaurant side was hiked up 10+ dollars, when asked it was said "oh I added an extra bag of chips and salsa"... for $$10?? Im sad to say that times are tough but some business are bending to some low levels of service to some long time customers over small bags of chips and salsa. Ordered the Chile Relleno and pork Burritos 2 item special just under $10 with a side of beans and rice. Huge portion! Complimentary chips and salsa? Yes please! Salsa was a bit spicy for my likings but it was still good. I will definitely be returning soon with family and friends visiting Patterson. To try a tasty bite of Mexico! It was slow, the service sucked, and when we finally got our food 3 out of the 4 orders were wrong, the food tasted terrible and there were multiple pieces of hair in the guacamole. I have been to the El Rosal on Coffee and to the one on Standiford and they are both significantly better than this location. The building is nice and newer, with large windows and it is clean. The service was inattentive and my chili relleno was awful. It had been cooked in oil that was too cold so the oil permeated the breading. The rice and beans were ok. When I am back in Patterson I will go to Strings next door. read more
