Dr. Anton Feldman is the best dentist I have had since moving to New York. This January and February he performed a very complex root canal on a very rotten molar: he managed to do this while inflicting virtually zero pain, and was one of the most friendly, honest, and supportive medical professionals who has ever worked on me. I may be a bit hyperbolic with the praise, here, but Dr. Feldman is an absolute professional, and I cannot praise him highly enough for the work he did. A bit of backstory:
In November of 2011, I visited my local dentist in Greenpoint for a cleaning and was diagnosed with a very large, deep cavity in my right upper molar. The tooth had been giving me trouble for a few months, and I'd been suspecting some major work needed to be done. However much I appreciated the diagnosis by said local dentist, I was not about to let him perform the procedure. Something about his office and manner was off-putting.
As an alternative, I asked around my office for a decent dentist who would take my company's insurance. My boss mentioned that she'd had work done recently at an office at the offices of Sylvan, Mondello, and Feldman (New York Dental Partners) on the upper east side. She gave the practice a strong recommendation, and I called the following day to make an appointment. The receptionist was extremely friendly, and we quickly found a time in the next week to have me come in and see one of the practicing dentists.
At my first visit, the hygenist performed a digital ex-ray of the tooth in question (something my last dentists was not capable of - I should note the fantastically high-grade equipment and technological setup in Dr. Feldman & Co's office), and brought in Dr. Feldman to meet with me. There was virtually zero "waiting around" - in either the waiting room or the chair. Dr. Feldman explained that I had a large cavity on my molar, and that the infection had spread to the roots of the tooth. He showed me exactly where the infection persisted, using the xray image to illustrate where it had spread. He explained very clearly that in order to fix this problem, he would have to perform a root canal and replace the tooth with a crown.
These were scary words. No one wants a root canal. But Dr. Feldman assured me that while the procedure does have a scary reputation, in practice it's remarkably straightforward and not entirely uncomfortable (when done right). Dr. Feldman began the procedure that day. I won't go into details, but over the course of three more visits he performed what he described as one of the more complex root canals he had ever performed. I had some extensive problems with this tooth. The remarkable thing about the whole process was how patient Dr. Feldman was with explaining every step. I was quite interested in knowing exactly how a procedure like this was done, and Dr. Feldman illuminated the whole process for me like a professor teaching a student. Not only did he manage to basically eliminate any pain or physical discomfort during (and in the days after) each visit, but he ensured that I was mentally comfortable as well. He understood from our first visit that I was someone who would be more comfortable knowing all of the details about what was being done to my tooth. And he eagerly obliged, answering all questions that I had and even expounding a bit on some general dentistry questions I posed.
Four weeks after my initial visit, I left their absolutely beautiful, impeccably outfitted new office on Lexington Ave with a new porcelain crown, which is rooted firmly with a titanium post that Dr. Feldman installed. I have not had an ounce of discomfort since the end of my procedure.
I look forward to returning for my 6 month checkup this June. While I hope that I'm not in for another procedure like this winter's crown, I'm quite comfortable knowing that should something like that be necessary, Dr. Feldman will be the one performing it. read more
