I came in one afternoon, looking for a spot to have lunch and hang out to study for a minute. They have a handful of tables and chairs outside along with a spacious dining area with tables and chairs and booths. They also have a bar for you to sit at if you so choose. My server was really patient with me, letting me take my time with the menu and figure out what I was craving. I ordered calamari for a starter and for the main, I had spaghetti with mushroom sauce and eggplant. I went with the side of soup option instead of salad. It was all quite delicious and actually satiated my cravings for pasta, except the soup was a tad bit too salty for my taste. I did take it home and revamped it as a leftover (we don't waste any food here lol!). Overall, I had a good dining experience and will come back again when I'm in the area! read more

Ruben was awesome! The best customer service I experienced in just 30 minutes of being here. I came here last minute with my little sister because we just left church and were hungry. We only wanted something light because our family is having a BBQ in a little bit but we couldn't wait for the food to be ready. The atmosphere was rather nice and calming, jazz music, not over crowded for a Sunday at 12:30pm. Ruben was on point with the warm complimentary bread + pesto! The mozzarella sticks, he described as rather big but yummy. He was accurate. We also split a chicken Philly sub that was good, the potato chips on the side were a home-made different touch, I appreciated but my little sister wasn't a huge fan. Overall, we will be back! Dined here for lunch on a Friday at noon with my coworkers at their suggestion. The reviews are so mixed and that had me nervous but we had a great experience. I made a reservation on Open Table and we were seated promptly. The restaurant wasn't too busy and the host was also our server. He was very accommodating and answered all my questions. I enjoyed my caesar salad and the buffalo wings as starter (plus the bread lol). My wings were cooked well as I asked and were the perfect amount of heat for wing zings. For a couple of people they were too spicy but they were perfect to me. I ordered the create your own pasta as my entree. I selected baked ziti, vodka sauce, sausage, with onions and spinach. The pasta arrived HOT so it had to cool a bit before I could try it. I think my selections complimented each other well and the pasta was delicious and tasted even better the next day. The food was absolutely delicious! They make their pastas, so they are a must to try. Our group had the chicken piccata, the Italian sausage pasta with marinara and shrimp fettuccine. Our Italian friend highly approved of the dishes as we each did as well. We then had dessert, cheesecake, cannoli and tiramisu. Perfect way to top off our meals as each was very good. Service was prompt and attentive. She was busy but she kept an eye on all of her tables to meet their needs. I'd definitely recommend this restaurant! read more

I have always enjoyed the food and service at Antonio's and have visited for many years and posted 4 and 5 stars previously. Every one can have a bad day, but there has been a significant change at Antonio's that we have experience the last two visits. My wife and I met friends for lunch. The tuna steak sandwich should have been advertised as a "tuna wafer sandwich". The slice of tuna was less than 1/4" thick. My wife had the same complaint about her $20.00 crab cake "wafer "sandwich. The flavor was satisfactory, the brioche bun, artesian lettuce, tomato were fresh. We both ordered the shrimp soup which was watery and without flavor. My friend's caprese wrap was served alone on the plate without sauces or garnishes. She was happy with the quality and flavor but her tortelini soup was watery and lacking flavor. The service was satisfactory and friendly. The restaurant was busy at lunchtime. read more

We get pizza from here when we visit my sister who lives 0.3 miles away :) We almost always get takeout. We always enjoy this pizza! I grew up on Vincenzo's in CH (my favorite) and this place ties at #1 for me. My sister and family are Gluten Free (yay celiac) so we now all get GF pizza. The standard crust is fine, albeit sweet. The cauliflower crust is better. Note for stomachless people like me: do not overeat these tiny slices. There are lots of carbs in this dough as I learned very quickly . It's worth it though. I won't say what happens to us stomachless eating too many carbs in one sitting on a food review... We had our post funeral reception here after my dad passed away in 2022. We had a spread of pizzas and appetizers. All delicious. And the staff took care of us amazingly. They know my sister well. Practically VIP treatment when you have a banquet / reception here. We found this place by chance. My wife and I came here for dinner tonight. She ordered capellini carbonara and I ordered a personal pizza with cheese and onion on half. OMG!!! The food was AMAZING! We honestly think it's the best we've found in Richmond. Our server was Maria, who was absolutely wonderful! We made sure to tell the manager how happy we were and that we will be back real soon. I honestly don't know how this place is rated so highly. We started off with a scheduled mistake which really just seemed like they didn't want a large party to eat there but I'll skip that part and chalk it up to an honest mistake. That was followed up by two waitresses going back and forth about who would wait on us in front of us which may not have seemed like a big deal expected for one having the nastiest attitude and making it clear she didn't want to serve us .... Just to come serve us anyway with a whole new attitude. Instant turnoff... from there we had Buffalo wing app which was requested well done. They gave us wing dings hot on the outside ice cold on the inside... I am not exaggerating... once the entrees came it wasn't any better as they either had old tomato sauce or just canned tomato sauce. One plate was too watery. One plate was too tart and added sugar. One plate was not edible. Two people stomach started hurting prior to finishing the plates. I would avoid here at all cost. Ambience is very fancy. I didn't really enjoy their eggplant parnesean, although it and the sauce felt very light and fresh, it also felt a little wet and watery. My extended family loves it and it has been one of their favorites for years, so maybe eggplant parmesan isn't their specialty. I will say that the ambience, service and decor were top-notch, so I think you would be safe taking a nice date there to be impressed, in terms of italian food, I probably favor rustic, hearty italian, and this is probably more wine and fine dining. read more

Antonio's has excellent GF pizza and we always love seeing our favorite manager, Ms. Debbie. They offer a 12" gluten free regular or cauliflower crust pizza. We prefer the cauliflower crust! Quiet and relaxing Italian spot. I had the pasta carbonara (my favorite all time dish after pizza of course) and the others at my table had pizza and fettuccine. The pasta carbonara was perfect for my craving. It came with a side salad, eaters choice of dressing. We also got the bruschetta which was a decent appetizer to start the meal. Staff was friendly and checked up on us fairly frequently. There were only a handful of other people around so I can't attest to the issues with service that other yelpers noted. Two words: great drinks. That's it's. That's the only good thing about this place. The bruschetta looks like a bowl of salsa. The bread they gave me for it was sourdough. They didn't even ensemble it together. We got Alfredo that was sooooo bland. The olive oil for the bread tasted old. And it took way too long to even get the food. Takeout pizza review. We've been eating at/getting take-out at Antonio's since we moved to RVA in the late 90's. They used to really pile on the pizza ingredients but the last couple of years I feel like the quality has gone down. They've raised their prices (like all restaurants) while giving you less than they used to. I believe they changed ownership last year so I'm not sure if that's the problem? Either way, they are definitely not our first choice for pizza in the area when the craving hits. Too bad. read more

I give this 3 stars because I've personally had very inconsistent service and meals. A couple times the food and service was great (since virus time I've done takeout here twice but probably won't again) and a couple times the food was kind of awful and the lady who handed me the food was gruff and seemed angry. Tortellini special and pasta carbonara were excellent. I don't really like bacon in carbonara I prefer pancetta or guanciale but otherwise good. And shout out to their shrimp soup side I really enjoyed it. It's light and flavorful. I've also just had their regular spaghetti and their eggplant parm. Maybe worst eggplant parm I've ever had- and I love eggplant and eggplant parm so I've had a lot. There was more breading than eggplant and it wasn't particularly good breading. And I already know they don't make their own spaghetti (if that do that's even worse) because it feels and tastes store bought but that's not the issue I use store a home. Their red spaghetti sauce was all sorts of awful. Flavorless, lacked seasoning... I've had canned store sauces better. So I give 3/5 I've had some good times and bad. I'm torn but until they get their act completely together I'll probably get a subway before that eggplant parm again. read more

Tried Antonio's out a few times. First time we tried the tortellini soup and chipotle chicken panini which was great. However the last few times we ordered the wings, tortellini soup, chicken Alfredo, wings, mozzarella sticks, and chick piccata and it was no good. Pretty disappointed with how expensive the dishes were and how low quality the ingredients were. The chicken Alfredo had chicken bits in it that were rubber like, while the soup tasted like they forgot ingredients or it was old but it was so bad we couldn't even finish it. Had my first, and last, experience at this restaurant 7/23/23. I was dining with my parents. My mom and I both ordered sub sandwiches. I ordered the steak and cheese, not the steak and cheese special, yet I was charged $13 for the special vs $11 for regular. Mom and I placed our order for just a sub. Waiter asked what side we wanted. I didn't see on the menu where the subs came with anything so I asked the waiter what side(s) come with the sub. Waiter said "homemade chips, fries or onion rings." I chose fries, as did my mom. We each got about 10 fries. Bill comes and we were shocked to see the $4 charge for each order of fries. Waiter never stated there was an up charge for fries, nor $4 (which is absurd for the very few you get). Needless to say, $10 of our bill was unexpected. Never again. read more

OKAY pizza. I I lay stopped by here for a big party my nephew was having. Placed looked clean, neat, very homie italian. Staff was friendly and attentive. Did not stay long but smelled really good in there. My wife did try the lasagna (said was good) and I just tried the pizza. We live about 3 miles from here and for the last year have debated going to try it because of the mixed reviews. We recognize that many reviews are personal opinion so we decided tonight was the night to give it a try. Now let me preface by saying that in our household, Olive Garden is not "real" Italian food but does serve as the bar when eating/rating Italian food... Olive Garden is 10x better than this. The food here was terrible. First we ordered the mozzarella sticks, at first they came out and looked amazing, we bit in and they were cold. We sent them back, and got fresh ones. The fresh ones were actually pretty good! (And ended up being the best thing we ate) Then the bread came--a toss up with the mozz sticks as being the best thing. The pesto/oil dipping sauce is also really good! We even ended up taking the bread home. I ordered fettuccine Alfredo with Italian sausage (from the create your own pasta menu option) the noodles were cooked well. But that is where it stops on positives. The sausage was cold, tasted like they went next door to Walmart and grabbed a pack of sausage and just threw it on the plate. But the Alfredo sauce...it made me gag. It was disgusting. It had a very unappealing texture and no taste but also the aftertaste of Play-Doh (or a latex balloon? Which is just as weird, I know!) nothing on the plate was hot, or even warm. My wife ordered spaghetti in olive oil and garlic sauce with meatballs. She asked for cheese to be mixed in as well (it's also an option in the CYO pasta menu section) and we were told they can't add cheese to the pasta.....? An Italian restaurant, can't add cheese to pasta? But okay fair enough. When it came out it was DRENCHED in oil. Now to be fair, I get it--oil sauce. But this is a frequently ordered item for her, and no restaurant has ever given it like that. But I digress. Moving on to the meatballs...these were without a doubt frozen from a bag. Okay, maybe I can understand that in today's economy but the texture I can't forgive.They were mushy and gummy but also somehow tough and also oddly tasted like a balloon/Play-Doh (I know it doesn't make sense how food can taste like that!) The spaghetti noodles were too undercooked, well before al dente-closer to being straight from the box. Nothing on the plate was hot or even warm. It honestly tasted like it was made 3+ days ago and thrown in a microwave for 20 seconds, I'll maybe give it a cold pan for 60 seconds. My wife served in the Navy for 8 years and compared it to the taste of ship food. The waiter we had spoke very quick and I didn't catch his name, but he was great. Not super knowledgeable on the menu, but it is a rather large menu, so I also get not being able to know every detail. The older lady who I am assuming is the manger and/or owner was also at the front when we came in and waited for about 3 minutes before being sat (not a problem at all) but did not greet/acknowledge us at all. When everything went on with our food, she did not come to our table to speak to us or anything. She did walk by our table at one point though loudly announcing to another wait staff of how slow of a night it was. The restaurant itself is decorated nicely and has a nice vibe and SO much potential. Do with this information what you will. But if your bar is Olive Garden or it's equivalent, just stick with going there. read more

Alas, another first encounter and yet another less than average experience. It started very positively, as we entered the restaurant we found a visually appealing environment, a nice plus to most eateries we have encountered here. The menu touched most of the basics of an Italian cuisine, while not being visually overwhelming. My wife selected the lasagna, my son the kid's ravioli and I the vegetarian lasagna. First to arrive were the salads. The largely romaine based salad was of nice size and very fresh. Next out was the bread, which my son and I loved. It was slightly crisp on the outside and soft on the inside, with a slightly sweet taste. Sadly, the grandness of the precursors of the experience all went for naught upon the arrival of the main courses. I will summarize it by saying they might as well have saved all of the other ingredients, excepting the tomato, and it would have tasted the same. The veggie lasagna, which appeared to include carrot , corn and eggplant. All were flavorless. I also tasted my wife's and son's dishes, with the same outcome. The bill for the meals and two soda heavy diet drinks came in just short of $35 or about $30 more than a bag of salad mix and a can of Hunts. read more
