They brought the naan with the rest of the food, which I thought was a little unusual. The restaurant itself was clean and new, but not the decor I'd expect for an Indian restaurant. I decided I wanted Indian noodles tonight but I also ordered the butter chicken sandwich. They were both medium spice (probably could have done hot but I didn't want to chance it). The noodles are definitely delicious!!! Next time I might try it with chicken. The butter chicken sandwich was too small for the price it was a regular sized hamburger bun and the patty was smaller than the bun. It had great flavor though but I'd rather put that $9 towards an order of butter chicken instead. The lady that took my order was super nice. She offered me tea during my wait. Wonderful experience, food was great and service was incredible. We were passing through on our way down the east coast and decided to stop here on a whim, and I'm so grateful we did! The waitress was incredibly friendly, thoughtful, and accomodating. I had a sore throat and the waitress noticed and offered to put some ginger in my tea, and later noticed my mom really enjoyed the yogurt and provided us an extra to take home with us. Wanted to find a good Indian restaurant to grab some lunch. Staying in Colonial Heights and did a quick search for Indian food. This is one of the first places that popped up. I decided to give it a shot and was pleasantly surprised. Ordered the chicken tikka masala, and although it was close to midday closing time 3pm, I was able to order (to go) and it was ready quickly. The food smelled great and once I returned to my accommodation I was able to enjoy it. The flavor was sweet with a bit of savoriness. The simple dish with rice and butter naan was delicious. Fantastic Indian food in Chester, VA! We ordered food and had it delivered. It was fantastic. Many of the ethnic restaurants in Chester have been sub par, but Saffron's dishes were finely done. Huge variety of dishes. I got the Punjabi style goat curry and it had complex layered spices, was not to oily and the flavor was rich and savory. Medium was still pretty spicy. Medium is the equivalent of American spicy. Kids got butter chicken and they were happy. I relocated here from an area with larger Indian community and thought that I wouldn't have food that was as tasty. However, I would say this was better than many Indian restaurants I've visited in larger markets because where I used to live there were many Indian restaurants but the food wasn't delicately made, it felt more mass produced. We grabbed takeout one night while we were staying in town for the night. The food was spicy and delicious! The restaurant was virtually empty in a busy shopping center on a Monday night. I hope this was just a slow night because the staff was so friendly, and the food was so well seasoned and spiced to numbing perfection. I don't know why a restaurant of this caliber wasn't on the recommendations list at the hotel. Just goes to show, follow your nose! When we are out for Indian food, Saffron is our special place. Tucked inside a sprawling commercial complex and next to a Food Lion, this business is our mecca for really good Indian food. We enjoy the complex flavors of that region and even the spiciness. We negotiate the spice level, starting at the standard "American" mild but enjoy the medium level too. Our recent visit started with drinks (Taj Mahal and a nice Cabernet) and samosas warm from the fryer. I like lamb and goat, ordering their lamb seekh kabob while my wife got the chicken tikka. The kabob was minced and a little dry but the chicken dish was moist and loaded with flavor; both dishes came in beds of sauteed peppers and onions with those delicious spices. We matched this with navaratan korma, vegetables swimming in a curry sauce that was slightly sweet. Fluffy rice and raita filled out the table. It was a wonderful meal. Service was good and efficient. And we took enough food home for a second meal. Great value and a warm friendly environment. We will be back. read more

The peas are whole if that makes a difference for you. The butter chicken is just as good as everybody says. I can't explain how excited I was to learn that an Indian restaurant was coming to Chester, and only 5 min from my house! I had been meaning to try Saffron every since hearing of their opening and finally made it last night. I can't speak to the ambiance - I got take out - but from the little I did see, it's a very cozy but beautiful space and was nicely lit. Looked like a perfect date night spot. On to the food. Since it was our first time going to Saffron, we decided to do a little sampler of sorts. We ordered butter chicken, the Saffron Bread Basket, the Saffron Veg Platter, and the chicken pakora. My car smelled amazing, and my stomach was rumbling before I even got home. The bread was wrapped tightly in foil, so it was still warm. The butter and garlic naan were exactly what you would hope all naan would be - soft, chewy, and perfectly cooked. The garlic naan had just the right amount of garlic, and both were delicious, but the real star was the onion kulcha. Dynamite. Definitely get some when you go - the balance of onion was right on point, and it melted in our mouths. The appetizers were a little less than stellar, but I think it's maybe because they got cold. The chicken pakora was well-cooked and tender and came with mint chutney and another thin sauce I didn't recognize, but which was delicious with the chicken. Also, the mint chutney? I don't know if they make it in-house, but it's off the charts good. The veg platter was cold, so the paneer, aloo tikki, and pakora were all a little underwhelming. They tasted great, and I'm sure they are delicious when hot, so no stars taken off, but they just weren't good cold. The samosa held up well, though, and was great. What I will say is I don't understand why, for an appetizer, you wouldn't have two samosas, two paneer, and two aloo tikki so you can share, but that's just me. The butter chicken was to die for. It's probably the best butter chicken I've had in a while. It was also a HUGE portion. Be careful with that one! I'm not going to go too deep into it because it's butter chicken and rice, and I think most people know that that is, but it was hot and creamy, and the chicken was tender. Overall, Saffron is a great addition to the culinary options in Chester and is well worth it. I'm going to have to try them again for lunch! read more

Went in for lunch because I didn't want any fast-food options nearby(plus only had an hour) I was promptly greeted and looked over the menu. I'm not particularly familiar with Indian cuisine I know enough--went with the lamb briyani dish. It's basically cubed lamb with rice cooked with spices/aromatics. NOTE: they ask you your heat level preference....I went with medium which is just enough spice with a kick BUT not overpowered. It was tasty, even got a cardamom pod(which might seem bad but it let me know they use fresh spices not just dried) only complaint was the lamb was tough for my taste. Lamb is not forgiving, and has to be cooked 'just until' done. Other than that, I would try them again. read more
