I first met Matthew when he helped a friend's father deal with numerous gas leaks in a mobile home. It was a difficult situation, but he was responsive, professional, and thorough. Later, after we moved into a home in Lancaster, I asked the company to travel from Simi Valley to help overhaul several parts of the plumbing system. The house needed a new regulator and cleanout, and an addition had been plumbed incorrectly with the hot and cold lines reversed. They also replaced an older water heater with a tankless system and rerouted portions of the gas piping as we converted more appliances and systems to electric. They handled several additional problems that demonstrated both persistence and honesty. A serious clog in the main kitchen drain line took more than two hours to break through, but they stayed with it until the line was cleared. During the home inspection, we had also been told that approximately ten feet of piping beneath the house appeared cracked and might need to be replaced. After performing a full video inspection of the plumbing system, Matthew's team determined that the marks were likely only surface scuffs and that the pipe was safe to continue using. Their willingness to give an honest assessment instead of recommending an unnecessary replacement meant a great deal to us. Most recently, they helped at a Scottish Rite commercial building where more than sixteen feet of older cast-iron drainage piping had collapsed. The affected section included multiple connections serving different drains in one of our primary bathrooms. They replaced and rerouted the damaged piping, charged a very fair price, and once again delivered quality work. It is rare to find a plumbing company equally comfortable handling mobile-home gas leaks, a major residential overhaul, difficult drain problems, video inspections, and complex commercial cast-iron drainage repairs. Highsmith & Daughters has been responsive, honest, efficient, and reliable throughout every project. I would gladly call them again and strongly recommend them.

The receptionist, Nancy, was friendly and helpful and called a few times to confirm the appointment. Since I work full time, I had my mom at my house to let them in. The technician took a look at the problem and went outside for what seemed like a long time to my mom, but came back and replaced the tank-to-bowl kit and the flapper. He didn't communicate the problem to her or give her an estimate of the cost. An hour and a half later, he gave her a bill for $342.50. She told him, if I knew it would cost that much, I would have bought a new toilet. He charged $192.50 for 90 minutes labor (much of the time was spent getting basic parts which he should have had on his truck and talking on the phone), $25 for the flapper (fine) and $125 for the tank to bowl kit, a part which retails for $8-$25. I called the company to question them on the cost. Nancy listened to me and said she would talk to the plumber and get back to me. A few weeks went by and I hadn't heard anything. I called again. Nancy told me she had talked to the manager and he agreed to give me a $50 credit on my next service. I told her that wasn't acceptable because my mom had paid for the service and I wanted her to give her the money. Who knows when I would need plumbing again? (And, after this experience I certainly have no intention of using them.) Also, interestingly, she mentioned the person who performed the service for me was no longer with the company! She said she would talk to the manager again and get back to me. Another week has gone by, and I have heard nothing. To top it all off, the part they used is really cheap. The handle is very loose and you have to hold it down for a few seconds to get the toilet to flush. Benton's reputation has been flushed down the toilet by United Plumbing.

Mark Lee from TO plumbing snaked the line twice and it did not resolve the issue. He suggested the line needed a thorough clean out using high pressure water. He arranged to come back later that day with a team to do that. There was no charge for 2 hours he spent trying to clear the line. He and Tony Castaneda came back that afternoon did the clean out with 100% success. They were both extremely professional and knowledgeable, they cleaned the kitchen and everything was back to normal. A great job and a very reasonable cost considering the amount of work they did. I recently needed to have a faucet replaced. That work seemed a bit expensive but I did not get any other estimates so that's just my perception. While the plumber was here, I had him take a look at a different bathroom because I needed to have the faucet and a vanity replaced. I received the written estimate but because it seemed exorbitantly high, I emailed back with some specific questions. I never received a response. So I emailed again, and still did not receive a response. About a week later I called the office and asked if anyone was going to respond to my questions. The person who answered the phone said yes that the person who prepared the quote would call me back. That never happened. I moved forward with the work using a different plumber. The estimate from Thousand Oaks Plumbing was $4,700. The plumber that just completed the work replaced the existing vanity sink, faucet, and all associated plumbing for $1,400. I guess I know why no one from Thousand Oaks Plumbing wanted to answer my questions. Honestly, I was very surprised to be blown off like that. I don't know if there's been a change in ownership but I guess I won't be using them as much as I have in the past, and if I use them again, I will certainly be much more cautious about getting more than one estimate.
