    Pet waiting room

The level of care here is exceptional. Our cat is extremely anxious and usually hates vet visits, but Apex has completely changed that experience. Each cat gets a private room with toys, calming music, and Feliway scent, which makes a noticeable difference. The staff are highly skilled, attentive, and consistently professional. We always feel confident that our pet is in the best hands.

Apex is truly amazing. We were very concerned about Goose's behavior--he had been waking up in the middle of the night, and although we had already seen his regular vet, we worried it might be related to his heart. We took a video and emailed it to the clinic, and Dr. Chloe responded quickly and asked to see him right away. When we arrived, the team took his blood pressure and performed an ultrasound. From start to finish, the entire staff was incredibly kind and attentive. The level of compassion and care they show, for both pets and their owners, is remarkable. This is a truly special place, and every member of the team deserves recognition for their dedication and genuine love for animals.

Can't recommend Dr. Block and her team more, after my baby Killua got diagnosed with HCM, her team has been life savers (quite literally) in prescribing him meds and adjusting his dosage based on behavioral patterns. The ER said he only had months to live and he's been doing so much better with two. I hate BlueRabbit though as the service Dr.Block's team uses. It was glitchy at first, be sure to call their support if you have similar issues. My boy loves everyone and the whipped cream there! Excited for the next visit.

APEX is THE BEST veterinary for my 13 years old Cocker Spaniel who was recently diagnosed with heart murmur. Cooper's consultation and echo diagnosis was very thorough. Entire treatment was very professional, Candice at front desk, two tech assistants, and Dr. Chen are great team. we will definitely return in 6 to 9 months for his heart murmur recheck.

I absolutely love Dr. Chloe Block and her entire staff. They are incredibly kind and always take the time to explain Walter's heart issues clearly and thoroughly. They truly go above and beyond to create a calm, soothing environment for both pets and their people--lavender oil diffusing, dim (maybe even blue) lighting during the echocardiogram... it was such a thoughtful touch. Having a pet with heart issues is stressful, but they make the experience so much less overwhelming. I truly can't recommend them highly enough. Here is a pic of Wally with hims brother many years ago and one from the other day. Wally is going to be 15 years old in June and I can thank Dr. Block for that!

Our review is long overdue. Back in February, we discovered that our 16-year-old Miniature Pinscher, Otis T. Fogerty, was suffering from heart failure. He was diagnosed and given an estimated timeframe of two months to two years. We were referred to Dr. Block, a veterinarian specializing in cardiology. Dr. Block and her staff are amazing! She was very accommodating and saw us immediately. Her testing is both thoughtful and thorough. Given Otis's age, Dr. Block was upfront about treatment expectations, costs, and longevity. The patient room was beautiful and comfortable, equipped with a large dog bed, clean water, and even whipped cream, which Otis thoroughly enjoyed! During the appointment, he received imaging and blood work while we stayed by his side. Afterward, Dr. Block explained the diagnosis and treatment plan clearly on a whiteboard. Within an hour, we left with medications in hand and a follow-up appointment scheduled. It's now May, and Otis is thriving for a 16-year-old! We are incredibly grateful to VetMed for referring us to Dr. Block, and we appreciate the care, treatment, and love she shows for animals. I recognize the fantastic gift it is when someone dedicates their life to helping animals. Thank goodness for dedicated professionals like Dr. Block and her team at Apex!

When I walked in I knew I was in great hands, receptionists was genuine showing care and compassion. The entire experience was truly amazing all the staff the nurses and Dr. Block, amazing. Very caring and explained things to make it easy to understand. I work at Stanford and this is the level of service we strive to provide to our patients. On my way home I told my mom about my experience and said this is the Stanford for dogs. Everyone who I encounter today! I wish I can hire them myself to have them on my team. Truly great team you have.

If you are looking for a kind, friendly clinic for routine care like annual exams or heartworm…read moreprescriptions, this may be a good fit. However, if your pet needs effective medical diagnosis and treatment, our experience suggests you may want to look elsewhere. Our dog got a hot spot the first week of December so we went in to get it checked out - this visit we left with generic broad range antibiotics and anti-itch cream, pretty common issue in dogs so I understood this course of action. Two weeks later after finishing the antibiotics we noticed that it wasn't getting better at all so we gave them a call and they prescribed us something different over the phone without seeing her - weird that you would know what to prescribe without seeing why the issue wasn't getting resolved. Finished those pills and surprise, didn't work. So now back into the vet we go - this visit we left by agreeing to do a culture test so we can figure out the exact strain of bacteria so that they can prescribe the correct antibiotics. While we wait for the test results, they prescribe different stronger antibiotics as well as a new anti-itch cream. At this point, I am getting frustrated that it's been a month and my dog is still uncomfortable and still in a cone with something as common as a hot spot. When I relay my frustration, they were very understanding, and they also verbally guaranteed that with a culture sample they will be able to fully heal her hotspot since this will give them the exact strain of bacteria. When we get the results, they let us know that the prescription pills and anti-itch cream that they had prescribed to us in the meantime were useless and that we should stop them immediately and pick up her new antibiotics and a new anti-itch spray. They again reiterate that this new medication will heal her hotspot since they know the exact strain of bacteria that is causing it. We are now going into week 7 and to my surprise, after following every instruction exactly as directed, and 4 different pills, 2 anti-itch creams, 1 anti-itch spray, MUTIPLE $85 recheck fees, and a total of over $1000, we are still in the same exact spot as we were in the beginning of December...over something as common as a hot spot!

I've had Dr. Eberle and Dr. Jollisant plus many more I'm sure I've forgotten, and there's always been excellent bedside manner. However, there is a serious disconnect between the techs, front desk, and the vets. A month or so ago, I took one of my dogs in because she had a persistent hack. This was very concerning for a few reasons: 1) I live in a multi dog household, so I'm if one dog catches something, chances are they'll all get it. 2) my partner and I work in the pet industry. It is vital we keep our pets healthy as to not affect client pets. 3) the dog I brought in had aspirated in August 2022 (treated by another vet since we were traveling), so she is susceptible to respiratory issues and coughs etc, and if not treated could potentially be very dangerous. I called Reed and they were able to set up an appointment asap, which I greatly appreciated. They did a cytology and gave me some medications, and I was told that I would receive results in 24-48 hours. I called back in two days and was told that the cytology would actually take ten days or longer. I told the tech or front desk who I called no problem--my boss is sometimes disconnected from our business and offers things at a rate I can't do or complete so I have been on the other side before. I called back a few times within the next week, and was finally told that we had results but the information needed to be relayed to me via the vet. I wait for a call but a few days pass and I do not receive one. I continue to call/email and I am unable to reach the vet. They give me his personal number and I shoot him a text--no response. At this point, I'm getting pretty impatient and agitated. I was out of medications for my dog and wanted to re-up them on the appropriate ones via the cytology. I believe it's an additional week past, and I finally get a call and am able to come pick up new medications. They tell me after she's done to come in for a check up. 3 days after my dog finishes her second round of meds, I called to let them know I wanted to speak to the vet before setting my appointment because I wanted to reup her medications before doing another physical since I felt she was doing better but not completely well yet. I have yet to receive a response. It's incredibly frustrating for so many reasons. I get it--everyone is busy and so many pets to see with so many issues. I know my multiple calls are probably annoying to them--I'm just another pet parent asking questions and being worried. At this point I don't even want to call again as it seems as I'm just pestering them. It's so frustrating as my dog is still coughing and to get another appointment elsewhere will at least take a week and by then, her condition may worsen. I'm pretty disappointed as this was our go to place, and I had been driving from San Leandro to Saratoga. My hope is the feedback will be taken and hopefully things will be improved, as for now, we're in search of a new place to take our pets to.

My cat was feeling heavily stressed and sick, so naturally I was on the emotional side this morning. Before even going in to be seen, over the phone, Diana was giving me all these estimates that gave me a shocking response because it was so expensive. It's hard times out here. It was absolutely unnecessary to respond the way she did to a customer where I have brought all 4 of my cats to and have spent lots of money at. I understand you are a business but you didn't have to make me feel worse than I was already feeling. Thank you for showing your true colors. I need to share serious concerns about the visit my dogs, Picasso and Mia, had at this clinic…read more Picasso has not been the same since his vaccination. He screamed from the back room during the injection, which was extremely distressing. After the visit, he was unable to walk properly for nearly three days. He's had nightly diarrhea -- three episodes on Sunday and two last night. His stool is loose, he has very low energy, and this is completely unlike him. Picasso is normally a happy, active dog. We received no full disclosure about possible side effects, risks, or any post-care instructions. This vaccination appears to have been too strong for him. Mia is 12 years old, and the vet barely performed a proper annual exam. There seemed to be far more emphasis on dental cleaning than on a thorough senior check-up. The assistant came in with a list of dental-related prep procedures -- including urine testing. I specifically asked whether her age required a more complete physical exam first. I agreed to a blood test but declined the urine sample. When I asked about the urine procedure and learned it required a needle through the abdomen, I declined again. The assistant confirmed they would not collect a urine sample. Mia was taken to the back for vaccination, and when they returned, the assistant was holding a tube of Mia's urine. She said, "Oops, I forgot you said no urine, but I already got it -- do you want me to discard it?" I was shocked. At that point, I allowed the charge since the sample was already taken, but this should never have happened. After she went back to the office, I could clearly hear her celebrating with the doctor -- laughing about what had just happened. This was incredibly unprofessional and upsetting. Overall Experience: The exam itself felt rushed and superficial. The doctor barely touched either dog, and even asked me to lift their lips for the dental check. We have had pets for many years, and this is the worst veterinary experience we've ever had at a clinic we used to trust. It genuinely feels like something has changed -- possibly ownership or management -- because the quality of care is noticeably different. At this point, we need to cancel all future appointments. Picasso needs immediate care from another clinic because he is not doing well.

I cannot begin to describe the emotional distress that I was in. "It has takin me 4 months before I could even write this review. Now that you understand the state of mind I was in, let's begin: I took Pickles in to see Dr. VanZant Who is extremely knowledgeable and did everything she could to help Pickles. I will say this about Dr. VanZant... she does not mix her words, she tells you like it is, to a fault. She comes off making you feel like you don't care for your pet and you're a horrible owner of your pet. "At least that's how she made me feel" now after talking to many people and I mean many people, including people that have worked with her in the past, they all said to me that Dr. VanZant is an incredible aviary veterinarian and truly cares for the animals "which I agree with 100%" but she is very rough around the edges. So I guess what I'm trying to convey in my review is... I would absolutely take my bird back to her, and we did until the disease I felt was too great for my bird and I had to put him down I also took my other bird Peaches in to see her for a blood work up because I was afraid that she might have also have gotten the disease that Pickles had. Let's make it clear Dr. VanZant is emotionally hard to deal with in regards to your pet but she is a damn good Doctor who will do everything she possibly can to make you bird better again and in all honesty I believe she did everything and beyond to help Pickles. So I highly recommend For The Birds, and Dr. VanZant, just be aware that she can come off very harsh, and has the disposition of a chair. Quite honestly I'd rather have someone come off harsh but is competent and will do everything in their power to help your pet "and loves your pet" than someone who is very caring twards me but has little knowledge or experience to help. That's my 2 cents, do with it what you will. Like her I did not pull my punches, just spoke the truth. Last things last: again I can't stress how much Dr. VanZant did for Pickles to try to keep him alive. I just wish she would have show a little more compassion for the ones who are grieving while their pets are sick or hurt. It is possible to speak the brutal truth in a compassionate manner.

To avoid any misunderstanding, I clearly stated my willingness to proceed with treatment and to pay an additional substantial amount if required. Despite this, treatment was not initiated. In my view, refusing to provide care to an animal under these circumstances -- particularly when questions relate to billing or package terms -- is concerning and falls short of the professional standard one would expect from a veterinary clinic. I am at fault, but if the bird had a blood test on file it might have made me more aware of continually checking his uric acid level. My husband took care of bird when we first got him. I am positive the bird had full blood test and checkup by Dr Vansant. The bird saw Dr Vansant several more times over the years. When my husband got sick I took over the bird's care. I saw the bird had problem with his foot. I called on Friday but, no one was in office until Thursday. The backup vet was booked. Mistake--I decided to wait until Thursday. On Sunday bird was lethargic. Found urgent care vet that said they took birds, but they did not .....they did not have equipment to do blood test. etc. big mistake..Third big mistake again waiting until Thursday instead of finding another vet. YES I AM AN IDIOT. Thursday bird had high uric acid and they IV'd bird until Sat when they closed for Easter. I had been told bird would go to another vet to continue IV over Easter holiday. Brought him back after Easter where he died several days later after more IV. They had no blood tests on their records. No one EVER told ME to have blood test done for the bird. I would definitely have done it. I found they switched computer systems couple years ago and did not have previous records. Then I remembered I'm sure my husband told me years ago the bird had 'high uric acid' but IT MEANT NOTHING TO ME WHEN HE TOLD ME THAT and he said nothing more so I forgot about it. I believe there is a record of bird having blood test showing high uric acid but it was on their old computer system..... The only other thing to conclude is it was never recommended to me to have a blood test for the bird, because I know I would have definitely done it. It was my inaction that killed my bird, but if I did have blood test done that showed high uric acid, I would have known what to tell another doctor. This occurred several years ago. Only now can I face it.
