Administrative experience has declined significantly. We've been coming to West Valley Pet Clinic for nearly a decade and specifically love Dr. Brons. Until recently, this was a 5-star clinic, but the administrative experience has declined significantly. We had always appreciated the ability to call for quick questions and book appointments--a necessity for managing a pet's health. However, communication has become a major hurdle since last year. Last year's AI system made it impossible to book an appointment for our new puppy or communicate with staff. We provided feedback at the time about how difficult this made communication. While the AI answering system is now gone, reaching a human is still a struggle. I don't think they have staff in the office answering calls anymore. Most recently, my dog suffered through days of diarrhea because of the slow communication process. It's heartbreaking to watch a pet suffer while waiting days just to get a status update on a prescription. I still trust the medical staff, but the communication barriers make it very difficult to recommend them like I used to. read more

My bunnies were due for their annual RHDV2 booster, only a single dose needed per rabbit as the Medgene vaccine only requires two doses (3 weeks apart) the first time they get vaccinated, then just a single booster each year thereafter. It was super easy to make an appointment less than a week in advance. The receptionist was friendly and clear in her communication over the phone, upfront about all costs associated with the requested vaccination, including the exam fees per bunny ~$100 each, which was paid in advance as a deposit (refundable if you cancel 24 hours before your session). At arrival on a Wednesday afternoon, parking was plentiful in the dedicated parking lot at the end of the driveway (google maps provided accurate directions). There were separate entrances/waiting areas for cats and dogs, though the entire room is connected (with the reception desk in between), and the staff said I could wait with my bunnies on the cat side if I didn't want them to be scared by dogs. A nice layout for this type of facility. I had arrived ten minutes before my scheduled appointment, and they got me in early, so wait time was minimal. The vet technician was detailed with her questions and really sweet with my pets as she weighed them. The veterinarian, Dr. Groundwater, was just as lovely, knowledgeable about small animals, owns several bunnies herself (I think the vet tech owns bunnies as well). It's rare to find good bunny doctors so I was happy about this, even though I mainly came just for the vaccines. The exam was thorough and pleasant to see, you can tell they love animals here, and they talked to my bunnies the way I do, lol (only rabbit owners would understand the cuteness overload that I deal with). They administered the vaccines in another room while I waited in the exam room. And I paid the remainder of my bill in the exam room as well, before leaving. I appreciate the fast and friendly service and the care taken with my pets. A great experience overall. read more

As a new client with a new puppy, I was optimistic and excited about starting a new relationship with this veterinary group. I enjoyed our first meeting with Dr. Groundwater a few weeks ago. I appreciated her warmth, knowledge and flexibility. Unfortunately, this morning's follow-up visit for a 2nd round of a puppy shot was horribly toxic when Eva, the Administrative Manager, unexpectedly intruded into my scheduling conversation with the receptionist. The vet tech who took care of my puppy was kind and professional. The receptionist who took my payment and helped me with scheduling was also polite and professional. Eva, the Administrative Manager, was toxic and unprofessional. Publicly confronting the poor receptionist in front of me and then challenging my scheduling request when she knew nothing about my puppy's chart was surprising and unsettling. If she is this unkind to staff in front of a client, what is she like behind closed doors? If she is this unkind and impolite to a paying client, how can I possibly trust her and the clinic staff with my puppy's care behind closed doors. Zero stars for Eva. I hope she can receive some more customer service training. I am not returning to this clinic for care. I will return to my local clinic, where the staff is professional and most procedures, including vaccinations, are done in the exam room with me present. read more

I can't say enough about Dr. Nesset and the staff at West Valley Pet Clinic. We have entrusted the care of our dogs there for over 20 years. Not only have they provided us with exceptional health care for our dogs, but they have treated them with such gentleness and compassion through every stage of their lives. We have also felt a deep sense of trust in their expertise, fairness in their pricing, and genuine love for our dogs. During covid, our 14 year old dog passed. Dr. Nesset called us personally and consoled us for our loss. The staff sent us a beautiful card signed by every staff member with a personal message or memory about our beloved. Losing a pet is never easy, but they handled everything with such sensitivity and kindness. It helped us get through a very sudden and painful loss. They also have great after hours for non emergency communication, where you can send pictures, and ask questions. Although pets often feel nervous going to see the vet, I can tell that our dogs trust that Dr. Nesset and the team at West Valley care for them and will help make them feel better. I'm on my second male cockapoo that's been treated by West Valley Pet Clinic. Their staff and veterinaryl professionals are all top-notch. We've seen several vets, including Dr. Nesset, who is amazing. Sadly, our first boy had to be put down with congestive heart failure. While another facility took care of the final procedure, WVPC, our primary vets, were amazing in communicating and compassion. Our current dude is healthy and going on 10 years under their care. I am speaking on the effect that treatment by this business had on my dog, which I am personally witnessing. The impact of healthcare extends beyond what happens in the clinic--it is important that the lasting impression on the customer (my dog) is positive, which it was not, as detailed below. Follow-up to Ella Sun's review (She is a prior paying customer of this clinic. Seems like WVPC may have reported her profile. Is this clinic literally suppressing free speech about their own wrongdoings??? See attached pictures.) Took our dog to our usual vet 3 days after the WVPC appointment for a check-in. Our dog was quite literally desperately climbing underneath ours and the receptionist's legs while whimpering to avoid going into the exam room. He has never done this before. This prompted this receptionist to say "he has trauma" and the veterinarian assistant to say "you poor thing." Our vet 1) again confirmed no ear infection (which Aleisha Nesset attempted to "diagnose") and 2) noted an isolated, scabbed-over wound deep inside our dog's ear (which confirms my dog was wounded AND is not how an ear infection presents 3 days later with no treatment). Again, these findings are in DIRECT contradiction to WVPC's "assessment," and this follow-up appointment at a different clinic was vital to confirming WVPC's misdiagnosis/gaslighting. Even one situation like this is unacceptable. WVPC's immediate attempt to "rewrite the narrative" rather than apologize at the scene as well as flagging reviews detailing the aftermath of their "care" is all the more telling. read more

It is very challenging to find vets that will see birds but luckily my Dad reminded me of this clinic because my brother took his cockatiel there. I came to West Valley Pet Clinic because my parakeet was making a strange clicking noise. I did have a bad feeling about this since my parakeet was 7 years old. They are still doing curbside appointments, meaning you don't go in with your pet and the vet calls you. The assistant checked my parakeet in and took her. Then later, I got a call from the vet and she confirmed the worst-- my parakeet had a large mass. She asked if I wanted to do x-rays as she wasn't sure if it was a stuck egg or a tumor. I said yes, so she did the x-ray and found a large tumor. She extracted some fluid around the tumor to keep her more comfortable. She recommended I put my parakeet to sleep but told me it was my choice. I wasn't ready to do this at the time because my parakeet was still eating, sleeping, playing and all the normal activities. So I decided to take her home and let her live out her last days. Dr. Brons said my parakeet had a few days to a few weeks left. She was pretty accurate because my parakeet passed away in about 2 weeks. I appreciate the compassionate care my parakeet received. Dr. Brons came out to my car and showed me the x-ray and then came out one more time. She did not pressure me to put my parakeet to sleep, which I appreciated. The thought of having to put my parakeet to sleep that day did not sit well with me, as I wouldn't be able to have the family say goodbye to her at that time. Dr. Brons told me if my parakeet got worse I could always bring her back and I could make the decision to put her to sleep. I felt good about having this as an option. I would go back to Dr. Brons and I would recommend anyone with birds in need of care to see her. She is caring and knows her stuff. read more

I've been going to West Valley Pet Clinic for the past few months with my new puppy, Willow. Yesterday, I took her in for her "big day" of getting spayed. As a person with anxiety, especially around medicine, I was a bit nervous considering the fact that this operation requires anesthesia and a 2-week healing process. Finding a quality vet was something I've had trouble doing, and I can honestly say that West Valley Pet Clinic is filled with the nicest, most empathetic vet techs and staff who you can tell truly adore animals. Dr. Valerie Brons is my vet and she is kind, clearly very experienced with all kinds of animals, and communicates clearly on what she's doing, why, and what to expect as the owner. She is great at making both your pets and you feel comfortable. This clinic is full of very kind workers and every time I bring in Willow, they get so excited to see her. Even little details such as drawing a cute photo of Willow on her bag of pills made me smile when reaching for her medicine the morning after an understandably stressful day for us both. This wasn't something they had to do, but it shows me that they watched her closely while under their care and were genuinely happy to have her around. A few more technical details: they do curbside drop off as an option and are very COVID-aware as an office and wear masks, they have a cubby for after hours medications should you need to pick them up after 6, and they always seem to have appointments available within a week's notice. read more

This review is for Dr. Hsu. We love Dr. Hsu. My chubby little shih tzu has been seeing Dr. Hsu since she has been a puppy. We followed Dr. Hsu from a Sunnyvale clinic to West Valley Pet Clinic. Although the drive to this clinic takes a little longer now for us, it's worth it. Dr. Hsu is so kind and gentle. We really trust her to take care of Sunny. She takes time to answer all of my questions and follows up after visits when there has been a health problem. One time, we had to go to an emergency clinic. My ex-husband did not like how they treated Sunny and did not trust the emergency clinic's recommendations. Sure enough, the emergency clinic's recommendations did not help Sunny to get better. We took Sunny to see Dr. Hsu at her next available appointment. Sunny got better after following Dr. Hsu's treatment and recommendations. Although my ex-husband and I have some differences, we agree on trusting Sunny's care with Dr. Hsu. I was unhappy with the vet I chose for my new rescue Bubba (he's almost 4 years old, and I've had him for six months) so decided to try this clinic to follow-up on some old and new issues my 85 pound shepherd-rottweiler mix dog is experiencing. The first "green flag" was during my initial phone call to set up the appointment. I spoke to Sammy who is extremely nice, caring, and pays attention to what you have to say. She does not rush through the call like most vet front desk folks do. She was delightful, encouraging and responsive to call my questions as if she had all the time in the world. The second "green flag" was seeing two separate entrances - one for cats, one for dogs. The last place I was at was a "one size fits all" and on my two visits there, I saw very anxious cats surrounded by all varieties of dogs. It is just not humane to add anxiety for any of the clients, human or animal. So I was happy to see the separation. When I arrived, we got to meet Sammy who was professional, kind, and attentive and we were immediately greeted. No surprise there since she's awesome! The third "green flag" was Bubba and I were by ourselves in the waiting room without any other dogs. I am sure there are times when there are several patients, but I get the sense they try to keep the mayhem to a minimum. My last vet it was a literal zoo with no where to sit let alone find a space where your dog is not within biting distance of another. Again, it just adds to anxiety for everyone there. The fourth "green flag" was Bubba and I were seen right on time. The vet tech, Millie, came out and introduced herself to Bubba and me, then took us into an exam room. At my last vet, both visits were over one hour late. In my experience with vets, that is often the case. For dogs/cats that are anxious (Bubba is not), this just makes going to the vet that much more traumatic. I'm sure sometimes it is unavoidable (emergencies, unforeseen issues, etc.), but it shouldn't be a matter of course to worry about an extended wait. Millie took her time getting Bubba's health information and history, all the while acknowledging Bubba and reassuring him. So let's call that the fifth "green flag" - a great vet tech who is smart, caring, and attentive. Then Dr. Kane came in. She's wonderful! Bubba had a WAY more thorough initial exam than he did at his first vet. She looked everything over, and discovered a white spot on his eye. She did a contrast test, and likely all is well, but that's the level of detail she is giving to the patient. I felt like nothing was missed. She also did not recommend expensive tests and lab work which I have experienced at other vets in my trips and travels as a pet parent. So the ultimate sixth green flag goes to Dr. Kane for the quality of care she gave Bubba. When they say they take their time at the initial visit, they are not hyping it. She took a ton of time to look over Bubba, and to talk to me about anything and everything. Both she and Millie were super nice to Bubba during the entire exam, and Bubba showed affection for them both. I feel like now I have good partner in Bubba's care who I trust. Not one red flat to be found. I highly recommend this clinic based upon this first experience. I will update as appropriate going forward. read more

I got my puppy last month and have been coming here since then. Everyone has been super friendly from receptionists to technicians to veterinarians. Dr. Brons who is taking care of my senior Shihtzu, Lucky, and Dr. Groundwater who is currently taking care of my puppy, Hana have been amazing. They really show care and passion towards our four-legged family. Reaching out to them was never a problem for me, and what's nice is they'll see me 10-20min early from my appointment which is super convenient for me. I drive over 30 minutes to see them because of how thorough and accommodating they are. They take their time to go through every step of treatment, answering questions and confirming how to proceed. A lot of clinics don't take patient grievances very seriously, but Dr. Groundwater and Eva have gone above and beyond in providing outstanding customer service. West Valley Pet Clinic, and specifically Dr. Nesset, has been a very thoughtful and professional vet for our cat (Puddy) for over 10 years. Unfortunately, this all changed on our latest visit. Sadly, Puddy became ill this Thanksgiving and his elderly owner Valerie brought him to West Valley on Friday 11/27. Dr. Nesset was not available so he was seen by Dr. Brons. Dr. Brons believed that Puddy was suffering from a urinary tract infection so she ordered Urinalysis, CBC panel, xrays. She also prescribed an antibiotic and a narcotic for pain. West Valley charged Valerie $943 for the above treatment and medications. West Valley was closing early on 11/27 so Dr. Brons told Puddy's owner to bring her to MedVet for overnight observation - it is still unclear why Dr. Brons told Puddy to go to MedVet overnight. Valerie picked up Puddy on Saturday from MedVet. MedVet nor West Valley gave her any further diagnosis, no instructions for care, but MedVet also charged her ~$1,000 for "monitoring" Puddy overnight. The total for the above treatment was ~$2,000. Puddy was not feeling much better on Monday 11/30, so Valerie called West Valley to enquire about Puddy's diagnosis and the results of Puddy's Urinalysis, CBC panel, xrays taken on 11/27. She was told by the receptionist that Dr. Brons was not available until Wednesday 12/2 but emailed the Puddy's Medical Chart. Needless to say, the chart is not easy to read or interpret and there was no summary or laypersons statement about Puddy's diagnosis. Valerie was in great distress because not only because her beloved Puddy is still very ill, but she was charged $2,000 and could not get ANY information from Dr. Brons or anyone at West Valley. There was no follow-up or any commentary about how to treat Puddy etc. Valerie asked if I would call West Valley to see if I could get some answers. I spoke to the receptionist who said that because Dr. Brons was not available she would have Dr. Nesset call me to interpret Puddy's Medical Chart. I very clearly explained to the receptionist that Valerie was in deep despair about Puddy's health and this whole experience is now causing Valerie great distress. I pleaded with the receptionist to have Dr. Nesset call either me or Valerie back as soon as possible. Valerie nor I received a call back. Valerie came over today 12/1 very upset so we called West Valley together. The receptionist said that Dr. Nesset did not call me back because I was not the authorized owner for Puddy. When we asked why Dr. Nesset did not call Valerie the receptionist did not have an answer other than she did not like my tone of voice. This review is not about West Valley's ability to care for sick animals, its about poor customer service. Valerie is an elderly woman who has brought Puddy to West Valley for 10 years. Regardless of the $2,000 spent, you would think that the receptionist or Dr. Nesset would have the decency to call Valerie about Puddy's diagnosis? West Valley's treatment of Valerie is a form of elder abuse. Valerie and her husband are in their late 80's and Puddy is the center of their world. Because of COVID they are isolated from their family and Puddy's illness is having a devastating impact on their life - I explained all of this to West Valley and they did not follow-up or call back. Shameful. Both West Valley and MedVet happily took Valerie's $2,000 dollars but she never received any follow-up nor explanation of Puddy's test results, x-rays, diagnosis or after care. She was left wondering and in despair. Valerie and I will be finding a new Vet for Puddy going forward. I hope people will find this review helpful. read more

When we moved here with two elderly kitties and a rough and tumble teenage dog, right before the pandemic hit, I asked my neighbor for a vet recommendation and they said, "Oh, definitely, West Valley!" And now I say the same to you. They've seen us through the usual ups and downs of a family who've been adopted by animals, and always been wonderful and kind. When our kitty Elliott died in my arms at 16, they were so lovely about his cremation and then a few weeks ago we had to help our sweet 18 y.o. Kitty over the rainbow bridge and I cannot express enough how loving, compassionate and considerate every single person was on that day. And now, today I've received the absolute sweetest card of condolence, signed by one and all, and my heart just felt like I had to share. If you're looking for caretakers for your animals who really do have the biggest hearts, please take my recommendation and take your beloved fur babies and feathered friends to West Valley (I'm pretty sure they see birds - double check, just in case.) I've only ever received the most high quality and compassionate care at West Valley Pet Clinic. Everyone, including the front desk staff, vet assistants, and vets shows genuine enthusiasm for animals and provides thoughtful advice, even during covid when contact-less service threatens the personal connection we get from face-to-face interactions. I've called near closing hours for cat pain meds before and they still went out of their way to prepare the prescription such that I could pick it up at my leisure. I've consistently been impressed with the friendly service in-person, via phone, email, and even text. Sometimes I am wandering around the block during my pet's appointment and am a few minutes late to pick them up, but I've never felt rushed or reprimanded for it. This clinic is my go-to for my exotic animals. Dr. Brons always does a thorough job. However I did have a bad experience today bringing in my dog for her first visit with West Valley Pet Clinic. I had an appointment set for 8 am, been parked in the curbside spots since 7:45 am. I call at 8 am to check in, no one answers. I called 5 minutes later, no answer. I call again to be put on hold, just for them to turn me away because "I'm late 20 minutes" when in reality, I've been there since 7:45 am. I've been loyal to this clinic for almost 3 years. I'm pretty disappointed. There should be a different way of checking in... and they were gonna charge me more for a "drop off". Shouldn't you guys check in with people who have been parked in a curbside space for over 30 minutes??? No. They help the other two cars that arrived after me and didn't bother asking me what I was parked there for. And they didn't answer my phone call until later. read more

Experience was perfect! I love this clinic . Staff could not be nicer and more caring. Dr. Danielle Olsen takes care of my 14 year old greyhound and my cranky 8 year old cat and she really loves them and treats them like they were her own . I trust her 200%! We are so happy to have found this clinic and Dr Cheung to care for our Westi. Dr. Cheung is thorough, communicates very well and takes time to answer our questions. She explains her findings, suggests recommended treatment, seeking the least invasive but best plan of action for our dog's health. We feel confident our dog is in the care of a great vet - Dr. Cheung.
