I had a very stressful and disappointing experience with Cherry Chase Pet Hospital during my cat's neutering process. In my opinion, the care and communication seemed to depend too much on who was working that day, and the clinic felt disorganized and unprofessional. My concerns started with reception. It was difficult to make the neutering appointment, and important instructions, including fasting before surgery, were not clearly communicated to me verbally. On the day of the procedure, the surgical technician brought me an estimate that was almost twice the expected cost of the procedure. He also showed attitude, which felt very unprofessional. After I spoke with the manager, I was given the regular estimate, but the situation caused unnecessary stress before my cat's surgery. After the surgery, I was instructed to monitor the surgical area, but the area was barely shaved, so I had to return to the hospital to have it shaved properly. My cat also did not recover easily. He hid for the first few days and vomited for about three days. I messaged the hospital about my concerns and did not receive a response for almost a week. When redness appeared around the surgical area, I stopped by the hospital and asked why there had been no response. I then scheduled an appointment for an assessment. When I arrived, I was given an estimate even higher than the cost of the neutering procedure, even though I understood that a post-surgery assessment should be part of follow-up care. When I questioned the cost, the technician argued with me and insisted that I was supposed to leave my cat there for the whole day. I did not feel comfortable leaving my cat there without a doctor first evaluating him. Eventually, the doctor assessed him and said it was a normal healing process. Overall, I felt the clinic lacked clear communication, consistency, and professionalism. I would not feel comfortable bringing my pet here again. read more

Just wanted to add about 3yrs after my initial review that we've been back multiple times, most recently for a corneal ulcer that wouldn't heal on its own. We saw Dr. Kate and she did a wonderful job throughout the long process of healing. We initially tried to address with drops for close to a week, but when that didn't show signs of helping, Muffin went through corneal debridement surgery to scrape off the bad bits and allow a new corneal layer to grow. The care given was wonderful and the follow up really great. We ended up going back for multiple follow-up visits as eyes don't heal immediately. Throughout, it was a really nice balance of giving things time to see how things were progressing and then taking action when needed to help things along. Dr. Kate is a warm and caring vet, and we're lucky to have her available to care for our pets when in need. Her team has also been a pleasure to deal with, with everyone friendly and patient even in tough times. read more

I've been going here since 2020 and I just can't anymore. I know things economically are bad for everyone, I also got laid off recently, but this is the second time in as many weeks that I have felt screwed over by this office. First my dog had a dental cleaning scheduled that I was assured I would get reminders for and I didn't, and they wouldn't let me reschedule it without losing $200. Well, he REALLY needed his teeth cleaned, so I just took the hit. Should have double checked that it was in my calendar. Well then I just took that same dog in for a recheck of his wound because they removed teeth, which I was assured was included in the nearly $2000 cleaning. Well a new vet was going to see him, which has almost always been a disaster at that office. So this new vet decided to do an entire physical exam (she removed debris from his paw, and brought it out to me to show me, and claimed his paw was red and I needed betadine to spray on his paw. By the way, he wasn't limping or showing any signs of distress, so I don't know why she looked at the paw to begin with. Well I looked at his paw when she brought him out, and it wasn't red at all and looked perfectly fine.) AND she did a "wound clean" and charged me $100. Dr. Kate is good and Dr. Meline was good when she was there, but the other vets they've hired at the office have been awful. They also won't always guarantee that Dr. Kate will be the one to see your pet. I'd say proceed with caution or go somewhere else. read more

This is awful place! Very old / careless decoration, always endless waiting time!! And they never arrange the same doc for me... Their price is super unreasonable! They always charge you a lot for some non-sense staff... And one thing worth mentioning is: One day we made a wrong appointment then they called us telling me we r late, we can reschedule and even we come immediately, they have to charge $82 late show fee!!! This late show fee doesn't have any notice before. First time visit here with my pup Stitch. With this quarantine, I wasn't able to go in with him. When I arrived a tech came out and assisted me with the form and take your fur baby inside for the exam. Everything is done over the phone while you wait outside in your car due to COVID. The staff was warm and welcoming. Dr Meline and her assistant Cody are both amazing!! They made Stitch feel like he was at home. Dr Meline is professional and knowledgeable. She answered all my questions and concerns I had regarding my little man. Cody, went the extra mile to spend time with Stitch after his blood test. After the visit was over, she came out and explained the shots and symptoms, along with instructions on his flea meds. I only trust Meline and Cody with Stitch and will definitely be returning for future visits. Cherry chase vet, you guys are the real MVP! I wouldn't trust anyone else with Stitch. I have waited to write this review to try and ensure that grief was not clouding my judgment. I was a customer of of Cherry Chase in 2016 before the business was acquired by Dr Kate and I remained a customer afterwards. Dr Kate is an amazing vet. She clearly loves animals, is knowledgeable, experienced and and has a "bed side" manner that makes both the pet and pet parent very comfortable. I like her. Cost of care has been completely reasonable. As the business grew, care for my pet was transitioned to a new Vet Dr Meline Joaris. Although I was hesitatant at first because of the relationship with Dr Kate, I found Dr Meline to be another amazing Vet. In March 2020 my senior dog started to experience some gastrointestinal issues. Multiple tests including a sonagraph by an outside specialist was completed. Diagnosis was that my dog was having intestinal absorbtion issues and he was put on steriods and then a series of injections that seemed to help for a while. As the business grew, it became harder and harder to get appointments when concerns surfaced. So I resorted to making appointments in advance and cancelling them if they weren't necessary. Dr Meline was excellent throughout the process. She would send emails or call me to find out how my pet was doing. Then Covid hit. It became almost impossible to get an appointment and when crititical situation arose I was told to go to the "emergency vet." For me, the whole idea of an established relationship with a vet for my pet is because I have someone who knows all the history. Not to mention the emergency vet costs, just the process of trying to explain the details of my dogs complicated medical history was crazy. In some cases appointments were as far as 3 weeks out. Although my dog had many more blood test and even another sonogram in between it was around June, while trying to schedule another appointment and to get the results of the most recent blood work that I was told that Dr Meline was no longer working there. I had fallen into a crack. Dr Kate apologized immensley . The latest bloodwork showed that my dog was suffering from kidney related anemia and that he needed a special medication and treatement that he would more than likely need for the rest of his life. Dr Kate advised that she had found the medication but that it was very expensive ($1,000), she advised that she had her office manager checking to see if they could find for a better cost. The plan was that we would find the medication and that they would show me how to do the injections myself. It took several weeks but they found the medication but my dog was getting weaker and weaker and I would call the vet trying to get my dog an appointment only to be told that their were not appointments available and to go the the emergency vet. Once I was advised that they had found the medication, I called on a Friday and scheduled the Vet Tech appointment on Monday. Late Friday I received a call that the appointment needed to be cancelled because they discovered that the medication was out of state and could NOT be shipped to CA. They asked me what I wanted to do. I was like, "what do I want to do? you're the Vet. They took no further action, they did nothing. I launched into a search on my own and ultimately found the medication at a compound pharmacy in San Jose, Ca. I ordered the medication, picked it up and headed to Cherry Chase to get it administered ($600). My dog survived one week after that and inbetween that time I heard NOTHING from Cherry Chase..... and have heard nothing since. As critical as my dog was I did not get even one phone call to check on his condition during that period. I had an appointment scheduled for my other dog for a general Sr health evaluation that I cancelled. When I cancelled, I told them that they apparently did not have the bandwidth to care for their existing pets and therefore it would be irresponsible of me to trust them with another one of mine. I believe that Dr Kate is an excellent Vet. But I believe that Cherry Chase has reached a point where it has more clients than it can adequately service with the quality of care one should be able to expect when trusting them with the life and wellbeing of something so precious to us. They have clearly taken on more patients than they can handle and should stop accepting new patients until that can adequately service the ones that they have. read more

In 20+ years of owning five pets, Dr. Kate has been one of the two best veterinarians I have ever known and the only one in the US. Even after we moved to Riverside county a couple of years ago, Dr. Kate remains our primary veterinarian. It does not bother me to fly from LAX since I know my fur baby is in good hands at the Cherry Chase Pet Hospital, receiving the best care. We went through a lot with Dr. Kate, including dental surgeries, abdominal hernia removal, spaying surgery, and cancer. I learned from her not to be afraid of surgery if it's necessary. I don't know what magic Dr. Kate is using, but my babies have always recovered very quickly from anesthesia with no issues at all. Dr. Kate is a truly gifted, knowledgeable, caring, and compassionate doctor. Unlike conventional veterinarians, she always looks for the cause of a problem rather than just treating its symptoms. Also, the staff at the hospital is hands down the friendliest and most compassionate I have ever met. They are the best! :) read more

I am extremely grateful for the staff here. I had an unexpected reptile injury occur and googled to find somewhere that could potentially help. I was emotional and could no't stop crying during the initial phone call and also the drop-off. The team was sympathetic, empathetic, and patient with me while I tried to communicate what happened. They were calm and caring throughout the whole process. They reviewed the potential costs with me prior to drop off and also called and kept me updated throughout the process. During pick-up, they reviewed in detail what was done by them from tests to medicines. In the end, they reviewed care instructions and helped me schedule follow-up appointments for his additional medicines. My lil buddy is healing and resting at home now, thanks to this place. I have been taking my cats here for years and I absolutely love this vet hospital. Dr. Kate is very knowledgeable and thorough, and is very gentle and sweet with my cats. She and the entire staff are lovely and clearly care deeply about the animals. They really interact with my cats and show them kindness and affection. Dr. Kate also really worked with me on keeping the bills affordable. She explains everything she is doing and why , and gives me all the options clearly. At one point my cat was very ill and I took him to 3 different hospitals near me which all were quoting well over $3000 baseline for treatment. I took him to Cherry Chase and they were able to cut down to the essentials and charged me $1000 instead. He recovered from his acute kidney failure and lived 2 more years which was amazing and far past expectations. Unfortunately his illness eventually returned and this time he was unable to recover, so we had to put him down to prevent his suffering. I was heartbroken. Dr. Kate and the staff were so incredibly kind and thoughtful, and made the whole process as painless and loving as possible. From the sweet mementos they made for me to the private room with no time limit to say goodbye, they really thought of everything to help both me and my cat. I have been to many vet hospitals as I've moved around, and I currently have 3 different vets within 2 blocks of my house, but I drive 20 minutes to go the Cherry Chase because of how well they treat my pets and how affordable they are. It says a lot when your dog loves to go the the vet! There is so much love with Dr. Kate and her team. But most importantly--EXCELLENT care. I left a prestigious Los Altos veterinarian after 25 years of pet care. I am so thankful I made the change for both my cat and dog. Immediately Dr. Kate noticed damage to my pup's molars due to the bones he was gnawing and through blood work found issues with his thyroid. Two simple things that my other vet should have detected. Also my dog has seizures which my other vet ignored --unless I wanted him on heavy duty epilepsy meds. Dr. Kate prescribed less invasive medication to help with seizures as well as thyroid tablets. Both medicines are very inexpensive and my dog has had no side effects. The big thing was when I detected a lump on my Golden's elbow. Dr. Kate got him in ASAP. It was cancer. She was on top of it--very knowledgeable. I liked too how she consulted with other doctors for advice and guidance. Dr. Kate was very thorough--if she doesn't have the answers --she will find someone who does. She was very conscientious with his surgery and care afterwards. She wanted it done right and made every effort in that direction. I love the very personable and expert care my pets get with Dr. Kate!! I've never had such a bad experience at a vet before. Back in March I had brought my 2 1/2 year old dog in to get the TPLO surgery for her torn ACL. The first thing they did was charge me an arm and a leg for X-rays. Little did I know, you can't see torn ligaments in an X-ray! Yes I feel like a dummy for not knowing this, but I can't believe they tricked me into thinking I needed them to be done. 2nd off, when I finally went through with the surgery, they sent my dog home with only a small bandage over her stitches. (Which was extremely difficult to get off her leg which was shaved) A week and a half later, I went in to get her stitches out & the vet on duty didn't even know she was supposed to have stitches and was confused..? They also wanted me to pay an arm and a leg for follow up xrays too! I realize I had a bad experience with Cherry Chase Pet Hospital after taking my dog to Warm Springs Vet in Fremont. They were the ones who told me you cannot see a torn ligament in xrays & oh they were a whole $1200 cheaper for the surgery AND way more friendly. they even explained the aftercare & what was going to happen during the surgery way better than Cherry Chase did . They also had wrapped my dog's leg up extremely well & even put a little splint on her leg to help with walking the first few days. We took our super-mutt, Nellie, to Cherry Chase for her annual check up at the recommendation of a dog trainer we've been working with. Nellie is a reactive, timid rescue dog from the humane society. She is deeply afraid of being examined and reacts in a dramatic way. Dr. Kate, Alexis, Cody, Natalie and Isabella were incredibly compassionate, understanding, and professional with the two visits required. With their patience, and guidance - this COVID raised pup was able to get through the immunizations and required blood draw. They allowed me to be in the exam room and a part of the creative process to help ease Nellie through it... well over an hour each time. Absolutely do not recommend going here. Every time I've come here, I left with the sense that they just want to charge as much as possible. I love my pup and will spend as much as I need in order to ensure he is getting good care, but it feels like they take advantage of pet parents like this and will not thoroughly explain the reason for each of the services. The vet once told me that the risk of not getting a certain treatment could result in death, which seemed extreme. I listened and got the services that they recommended, but left with just a general feeling that they wanted to just charge me and they did not explain the reasoning for the charge. I went to schedule an appointment for my pup this morning, as he was vomiting and lethargic and I was extremely concerned and worried. They told me that I could bring my pup in and also told me that I had to pay a no-show fee for missing my appointment a month or so ago. I took full responsibility for this and went to pay the fee, but was shocked that while I was calling and was so concerned, they chose to tell me to pay this charge. The timing was inappropriate and just added to my overall feeling that this hospital cares only about the money, not about the pets or about reassuring pet owners. I quickly searched a different vet to take my pup to today, and only went in to Cherry Chase Hospital to pay the no-show fee. I will not be going to Cherry Chase anymore, and strongly recommend that if you are looking for a vet that will work to reassure you, explain the reasoning for service charges, and be empathetic when you are feeling stressed, you should go elsewhere. read more

Cherry Chase hospital just changed the owner, and Dr. Kate is the best. I know her from where she worked before, and she's diagnosed one of my cats with genetic desease which other doctors could not even identify for months... I'm very grateful that she is helping me to keep my cat happy with his condition, and pain free. I went to Cherry Chase just last week - first day it opened - with my second cat, and I was at ease to leave her there for exam for a few hours. I originally came to this vet under previous ownership, and it was a disaster event, I have forgiven all involved and fortunately my dog is ok today, but I just wanted to get that off my chest. Today Cherry Chase is under a whole new ownership environment. They are just wonderful warm hearted people. Henry (my Spudz) just LOVES going to the vet. Last week I rushed in to the clinic 10 min before they close - i came home and found my dog had a huge swelling under his neck. dr.Kate and her team opened and cleaned the abscess, and they stayed after work to help my Mario. I also recieved follow up call next day. Similarly, last year, veterinarian from the clinic close to my home, didnt see anything wrong with my dog's ears, while dr.Kate found a small seed inside that could be very harmful. Very unprofessional management of appointments. After our rabbit was spayed here, we made a follow-up appointment about 2 weeks after the procedure. We showed up 10 minutes before our 10:30am appointment and called from the parking lot to check in. We waited about 30 minutes and around 10:50 called to see why we were still waiting. We were told someone will be out momentarily. 15 minutes later still nothing, we so called again and we were told that someone was supposed to come out a while ago. Several minutes later, one of the staff members who had been talking to another customer in the parking lot came over and asked about our rabbit. So I'm guessing she thought she could wrap things up with the other customer in a few minutes before she could take our rabbit. If things were taking longer than expected with the other customer, why couldn't she just step away for few minutes to come explain to us what's going on or get someone else to come out and help us? The check-up took maybe 5 minutes and the person who brought our rabbit back finally apologized and told us the nail clipping will be free of charge. Except that that they actually forgot to do the nail clipping 2 weeks ago and we already had a free coupon. Completely unprofessional and unacceptable. read more
