The two techs who came to replace the glass a couple days later were also professional and efficient, it only took about 20 minutes. The difference is night and day! The company was responsive - when I left messages they were returned in a timely manner. The replacement glass was very affordable and has a 5 year warranty which is comforting. Their experts come in provide an estimate, in which case I'll always remind people that there is a difference between an estimate and quote. I know they don't have super human vision and can't always see everything but always, always, always insist on a good job being top priority no matter the cost. They never fail on delivering quality at a very reasonable price. If I used a general contractor to do the same work Apex does, the contractor would almost certainly come in 50-100% more since they don't specialize in the things that Apex does. Apex really does deliver. No question their phone lines are a little strange sometimes but it seems that there are some older numbers listed online. Once I set up an appointment with their people, it usually works like clockwork. I get there are jobs that an estimate or quote should hold true but when your dealing with rotten wood and mechanics of a window, there are things that go differently than planned since it's often a blend of art and science. When they come in and start work, I expect their estimate to be off since I know that there is often things that the estimator can't predict. Guess what? I want this company to make a profit and stay in business. Without them, I am only left with General contractors or window replacement companies. Anyone who gives a bad review is usually not that experienced at home ownership and all the challenges that arise. Yes, they might take 2 days to "carve" out of a busy schedule. They work around your schedule as much as it might be required to work around theirs. ..... It's called a partnership and if you want to be successful in any partnership, be ready to test flexibility. You don't think they test that every minute of every day! Really amazing and I've used them over a 1/2 dozen different times and am never disappointed. Lastly, I'm having my house painted after 5 years. I called them in to inspect and assess all older windows and repairs before the painting contractor arrives. This prevents unwanted work stoppage from the painters. Did good work. Windows look like they are new. Installers had trouble installing replacement windows and needed to go to the store to buy replacement parts. A little inconvenient because window was completely open while one installer went to the store and it was raining/snowing at the time. Had to give the one guy a plastic cover to try to cover the window so not much water would come in. Maybe if the installers had their own plastic tarp maybe it wouldn't have been better. Price was good, but be prepared to carve out a couple of days for an appointment, as they may reschedule last minute multiple times. My husband and I scheduled an appointment for a fix to a small window off of our porch. The appointment was for scheduled for Wednesday between 7am - 9am. They called to confirm with us twice on Tuesday. Later in the afternoon on Tuesday around 3p, the called back to say they needed to reschedule for later in the day on Wednesday, specifically 12p - 2p. That was a little problematic for us, as we are selling our place and had people coming by at 12:00pm, which is why we originally scheduled our appointment for earlier in the morning. They assured us then that someone would be there by 2:00 pm. The Apex representative made excuse that this happens "all the time". We were also unable to speak to the manager. On Wednesday, in the around 3pm, someone called again to say the technician would not arrive at all and would have to be rescheduled for Friday. We asked, for the supervisor to give us a call and we were assured they would. They never did. Also, keep in mind, we already paid a deposit for the service. Our appointment was re-rescheduled between 7am - 9am on Friday. On Friday at 7:30am, we were concerned we had not received a confirmation call on Thursday or in the morning on Friday. So, WE had to call to confirm if the appointment was still on; concerned, given our previous experience. We asked the Apex rep if someone would give us a call when they were on their way (since providing updates seemed to be the protocol from our experience on Tuesday and Wednesday). We were told that no one would call us and they would just show up. Again, concerned, we pressed on them for a update call. They continued to tell us that someone would be there (despite the fact that we expressed doubt because they had already rescheduled with us 3 times). The techs did finally showed up within the (fourth) scheduled time frame. But working with them was incredibly stressfully. They are rude and unreliable and did not seem to care about customer inconvenience. I'd look elsewhere. read more

Was told by the estimator that both sides of the window had to be done that's why the cost was $240. But the installers only did the broken side. So I was lied to and therefore over paid. The total price for to have one full window fixed is $500. I think you can get a new window installed for that price. read more

Had Apex out to replace fogged glass: 4 picture windows (4'x4') and 2 casement windows (2.5'x4'), plus replace hinge/hardware on one casement window. In order to access the picture windows, the blinds had to be taken down, which they had trouble with (and I know this b/c my wife who was home called me for suggestions). Fortunately, we have several of these blinds that were never installed (b/c they were the wrong width when received), so I suggested that they unpackage one of them so they could see how they are mounted. Didn't hear back from home, so I assumed they figured it out and got the job done with no other issues. Not only did they not re-install the blinds when they were done, but when I re-installed them I discovered that one of them had been damaged beyond repair (one of 3 metal mounting tabs completely sheared off). I sent Apex an e-mail describing the issue and included pictures of the damaged blind, as well as the undamaged one for comparison, and a scan of our invoice just for good measure. It's been over a week. Haven't heard a word from them, and don't expect to at this point. Too bad, because so far it looks like they did a nice job on the windows, but I simply can't recommend a company that treats their customers in such a manner. read more

I rescheduled 4 times because they blew me off, one time they had me wait 5 hours before I got the real message. I called an hour in, they were on their way. I called two hours in, they were a little held up but on their way. I called 4 hours in, lady assured me they were on their way. 5 hours in, I called and suggested rescheduling. The lady agreed. I did this twice with them before the lady promised I would be their first customer, she scheduled me for 7 AM and you can guess the ending of this story. Kind of a long story. Got an estimate, paid the deposit and the workers came today. I live in a 100 year old grey stone and although the windows were replaced 15 years ago, the company did a TERRIBLE job and then went bankrupt. The 2 workers showed up at 9:00 on the dot. Perfect. There are 3 windows that are a mess that they were to work on. Approximately a 3 hour job. They spent 3 hours on just the first and couldn't fix it. It was too poorly installed years ago and the entire windows need replacing. Ugh. They said they wouldn't be able to fix any of them. They said they would have the office call when I said that I would be expecting my deposit refunded. The office called and the guy was super manipulative, to be honest. He said that they would go ahead and "waive the $520 balance" but he said the deposit was something they were keeping. WHAT!?! Waiving the balance? They were unable to fix the one window and didn't even touch the other two. I told him that wasn't ok. He said he'd call the technician and call me back. A couple hours later, no call back so I called them. Spoke to a woman who said she would speak to a manager. A couple hours later, I did get a call back and she said they would absolutely return my deposit. No arguments, no problem. Easy Peasy. I offered her to keep $50 for the guys. They showed up and worked for 3 hours. It wasn't their fault that it wasn't fixable. She said no. Besides for the one tiny snag of being told I wouldn't get my deposit back, my experience was really good. From beginning to end. When it's time to replace all my windows, they are the ones I'll call. Being in the service industry and quite aware of the pros and cons of "Yelp", I always look at the worst and look at the best and assume it falls somewhere in between. Also, when you look at scathing reviews, take a moment to see how many other reviews that individual has left for businesses . I sent this email to cancel the job after the crew they said would fix the botched job didn't show up. I looked at the stationary windows, transom type windows this morning, and they are dirty. The guys seemed to clean them after installing them but the windows are smudged. The 1st time the repair guys came 4 hours late and on top of that they were missing a part so I had to schedule a second appointment. I used Apex to replace some sliding glass doors in my condo. During the rains last fall, the doors leaked, allowing rain water to fill the sliding track and spill over into both my master bedroom and living room. I called Apex, and they sent out a guy who spoke little English and told me that they couldn't really do anything. Sliding glass doors aren't supposed to leak like that. It happened again, and I called. They sent out another installer who looked at them and said that all he could do was drill some "drainage holes". The current rain is happening and they are still leaking. After repeated attempts at trying to get them to actually diagnose what is happening and/or fix the issue I've just had to go with someone else who will do the job right. They might be fine for windows, but I would't use them for anything else. read more

This company's ads are misleading, implying that they can repair any window damage. They show a man repairing wood moulding, suggesting they are a one-stop kind of business when it comes to window repair. They sent an estimator to my home. He cited various caveats to their services, particularly that they repair a window only if it is a double pane and they are only replacing the outer pane. Based on this, he could not repair or replace my window. At the same time his explanation made no sense to me, which was a red flag when I was trying to do business with them. So I called a local company, HERB'S GLASS, in Elgin, IL. Their estimator expressed no reservations, had a custom unit made and replaced the window. They replaced damaged wood. Their work is impeccable. I highly recommend HERB'S GLASS. Don't waste your time with Apex Window Works. read more

We sold our house and the inspection identified a window with a rotting sash and another window with a bad seal. I called all over and no one else could fix the windows before our closing. They fixed it the next day and did a great job. Why only 4 stars? They charged more than every other quote. I had no choice, but to pay if I wanted to close on my house.
