I stopped by on a Saturday morning. The store seems to be popular. It had a lot of indian stuff. Espicially there was an excellent collection of ice cream. There was even a paan counter, with a ton of interesting pan varieties like chocolate pan. Bakery counter had a lot of interesting desserts and cakes. The food counter was the highlight of the store. I found a lot of people were there just to have lunch. Food was reasonably priced and was of good quality. Lunch combo was just $12 and comes with 2 or 3 sides, rice and 2 rotis. That was more than sufficient for one person as a heavy meal. Eggplant curry, paneer curry and malai kofta were my sides. All were excellent. Malai kofta was the less spicy and rich gravy which even kids will love. Samosa chaat was my other item. It was flavorful, came in good quantity and was reasonably priced. Mango Lassi was good as well. That was $4. They also have complimentary free masala tea. Tea was of excellent quality, I also took out potato puffs and bread pakora. Both were flavorfull. I didn't realize bread pakora had good fillings, which was a pleasant surprise. As for grocery items, the place was heavily north indian focussed. For south Indian items, it is better to go to other grocery stores near by. There was a pani puri stand in front of the store which will open around 1 - 1:30 pm. They're located in a plaza, sharing the parking lot with Felipes Market, CVS, Jersey Mike's, and other stores. I had no issue finding a parking spot. I've often come to this plaza for Felipe's next door. I heard of Apni Mandi from KQED's Luke Tsai's reviews of it. The special draw is Apni Mandi is open 24/7 which is a huge plus if you need something any time, stores in the Bay close pretty early. I walked in and immediately spotted the hot foods counter. After briefly looking at the menu, I of course had to get the lunch combo. Praised for its cheap price and good food. I wish there were labels for the offerings but I asked the server for her recommendations. I settled on the cauliflower and the daal. Both were super good and flavorful. Onion salad was refreshing. Came with rice and two rotis! Pretty good portion size for the price you pay. I ate half and am saving the other half for leftovers. I took it to-go so the worker wrapped my order in saran wrap. I didn't take a look at the grocery store part of Apni Mandi but seemed pretty busy on a Sunday morning! read more

Little India Kutty India, home to our heritage little India. -NDP 2013. This is a very nice indian supermarket because I can find everything I need in one place. The prices they offer here are very reasonable but yet so competitive. Food quality is pretty good but not as good as the mainstream store. This store is open 24 hours so you can grab anything to eat at anytime. On the weekend you can expect long lines. There are also people sitting outside which adds a lively atmosphere to the place. Mostly Indian families come here Drawback: Not everything has a price tag here which is very frustrating for me because I am broke. Got some cool snacks here. If you need to use the bathroom please plan accordingly. It can be very noisy here on Saturdays because if you are not able to wait it can get tough for you. read more

I go to Apni Mandi at least 3 times a week. They're my go-to place for grocery needs. I love the fact that they're open all the time. It's safe to go at any hour, and I've probably been there 24 out of 24 hours. I buy paan & sweets occasionally. I love their free chai, and the ambience outside - there are plenty of tables. It's a vibe. I also love the gol gappa truck outside, their panipuri is tasty. I usually order their food combo which is literally like home-cooked food, and it's yum!! I love their aloo paratha & samosa chaat. Aloo puri is good, it's not oily which is a major factor for me. Their samosas are okay-ish, I've had better. Their service is usually good & staff is polite. When ordering combos (for which I'm a regular customer), some staff give way less quantity and 1-2 of them seem kind of grumpy if you ask for more. Rest of them are friendly & very easy to talk to. The other thing that's confusing is the newly updated washroom code because they don't have any well-written instructions, people have to turn twice from inside, and it's difficult to tell if someone is inside. My colleague mentioned that they have the best saag in this area. They sell it at the take out counter and it is available almost everyday. We wanted to try it out and so we picked up a medium sized tub. The verdict is that it is really good and worth getting the saag from there. Making saag is tough as it requires time and patience and they seemed to have done both. it was creamy and mild and awesome. Definitely recommend for those who haven't tried it. read more

I would say I am a bit shocked by the low rating here, I personally love it here. This is a grocery store that is open 24/7. In the corner they have a small shop that sells sweets and fresh food. There is always quite a line when ordering (so I would suggest bringing some company to multitask while you wait). Next to the shop there is free self serve hot fresh chai. I would note that it's not the greatest chai, but for free chai I cannot complain. It is piping hot and takes a minute to come out. Sometimes I do have concerns if the milk has gone bad since the chai has an odd flavor to it. Of note the chai already has sugar added. As for the food, the lunch and dinner platters quite quite a lot of quantity for its price. We had ordered one chole bature. one dinner platter (comes with 2 veg sabjis, we chose kofta and mutter paneer) and pakora. The food comes out outside by the window and takes around 10ish mins. The bature was solid, warm and well cooked. The platter also did not disappoint. This was enough food to fill up a party of 2 and was under 20 dollars. Overall would come back again if I am in the Sunnyvale area. The only thing that I felt was a bit disappointing was the pakora but besides that, solid food, good quantity and look forward to coming back if I am in the area. There are no seats inside. Woahhh I'm shocked this place has only 3 stars (at the time of this review). Everything I've had here is wonderful!! Then again, it is a food counter in a grocery store so you probably wouldn't get the service you'd expect at a restaurant. But I LOVE everything here except the palak paneer but that's because I simply don't vibe with palak or any saag dishes, it's just a personal preference. Love their chole bature, paneer kulcha, Chili paneer, kadhi, samosas, all chaats, gajar halwa. I especially love how affordable this place is. You can get a DELICIOUS 3 item thali for under $10 and it also comes with 2 rotis and rice. Solid deal. Oh and they have free delicious chai, I mean, come on. Apni Mandi is a 24-hour feast of Indian groceries, wares, and prepared food. That means that you can get chaats and curries at literally any time of day or night! On top of this, the quality, price, and flavors were all on point. The Samosa Chaat was a vibrant mix of colors and textures--two huge broken potato-stuffed samosas formed the base, which was topped with chana masala (chickpea curry), tamarind and mint chutneys, yogurt, and sev. The combination was savory, spicy, and tangy all at the same time, making for a delicious combination (and given the portion size, an entire meal on its own). From the Tandoori Bread selection, the Amritsari Kulcha was a whole wheat flatbread stuffed with a thin layer of spiced potatoes and griddled with aromatic butter. The freshly-prepared kulcha was served with chana masala, mint chutney, and chopped red onions on the side, which added a nice contrast to the buttery, carby goodness. Finally, I tried a selection of vegetarian items from the steam table in a 3 Veg Combo (which came with white rice and 2 rotis). The Bhindi Masala was okra stir-fried with onions; the Saag Paneer was a pureed spinach gravy with cubes of paneer; and the Malai Kofta were spiced potato and paneer dumplings in a creamy tomato gravy. This place is like a costco compressed. This place is so busy that the line for checkout goes to the back of the store and around to the side. Each aisle you see 200 people standing side by side. Its awesome. All the customers and employees are friendly. Everyone is kind to each other. They got really good food too. Price is low too. They got stuff you don't see in other indian super markets. They have a outside seating area to eat and people are so quiet that even when all the tables were taken, you barely could hear anyone loud. We really like this place to shop and to sit down to have a healthy vegetarian meal. read more

I just want to mention a couple of things before going into my review. Apni Mandi was formerly known as Apni Bazaar not too long ago. Their old Yelp page is still active and people are still writing reviews on that page. However, because of the rebrand, I will be writing on this page but both refer to the same establishment. I'm also strictly writing for the prepared foods department as well as the pani puri corner and NOT for the grocery store. I'm always amazed by the number of places that are not too far from me that I only first hear randomly through the news. KQED has a fun section devoted to late night eats where their writers explore popular late night establishments in the Bay Area. Even though I live nearby in Mountain View, I had never heard of Apni Mandi till I read about it in my KQED newsletter. I always love having options available late at night that are not fast food and unfortunately that's quite rare in the Mountain View/Sunnyvale area. I decided to give this place a try one night when I finished a little late from work. A lot of people have commented on the long lines but I didn't have to wait at all for either pani puris or the tiffins. I first tried the pani puri cart. They have five different flavors and all were quite tasty. It definitely reminds you of the chaat stalls back in India. The prepared foods department offers a 2 item thali combo for $8.99. That is insane especially in this economy. I have to admit that I thought the food would be mediocre given that it is cheap and served at a 24 hour store. It turned out to be very tasty and I would even consider ordering from here for a regular Indian meal during the middle of the day. The food consists of typical North Indian Punjabi dishes and you can even order some chaat items a la carte as well. I wondered why this place has such a mediocre rating and just scrolled to see what other people were saying. It seems like people's biggest complaints had to do with the customer service (was fine for me) as well as their experience with the grocery store itself (not applicable to me). Again, I never knew this place existed till now and truthfully some of my clients were amazed that I didn't know! However I have now found a new go-to for cheap late night food that is not fast food! Decent food. Grocery selection ratio of fresh vegetables to dried pulses is almost half and half. Good variety overall. Had the Pani puri outside. They have 5 flavors of Pani. Tried all flavors. We love it here so much - where else can you get delicious samosas (and other great dishes) at 2 in the morning?? Granted, we have not yet been that late, but I love that it's an option. We have been at different times of the day and night and even though the line for the hot food can get full, it always moves pretty fast. We always get the dinner combo meals and it's enough for leftovers the next day. We also always get extra red and green sauces because they are just that good. We are grateful to them for being patient with us for stumbling over the items while ordering since we don't always know what's what :) Also, yay for free chai!! read more

Right off the bat I will say this market is opened 24 hours and at any time of the day anyone can come in and get a cup of free hot chai and no 1 will harass you that you didn't buy anything so no free chai for you! And, if you're hungry at 3 am and can't sleep, come to Apni for freshly prepared food at very reasonable prices from the food stall inside. This is what I love about this market. I have gone to the Apni Mandi in the Irvington district of Fremont but did not care about that market. For starters, no free hot chai on these cold days. I love love the samosas here! I have had some bad experiences with the staff but its been a long time I dont shop here often except when there is an emergency or if I want to eat the samosa. Their kitchen is open 24 hours which is great. And dont forget the free chai. Lately their samosa size has been decreasing very much. It is supposed to be a LARGE SAMOSA and they charge you accordingly for a LARGE. But the size is almost like a normal samosa sometimes even smaller. The paneer has disappeared too. Two days ago, I shopped frozen mirchi 30 Chapatis (family pack) here. There were no prices displayed about most of the frozen packages. I had bought the pack of 36 chapatis from costco last week for $4.99. I expected to pay about $5.99 or $6.99 here. The young man on the counter charged me $10.99. I told the young man that there was no price mentioned. He looked at me disgustingly and uttered only one sentence whether I want to buy or not. No apologies or anything else. These Indian shops should be stopped from playing these type of games. They are taking advantage of the customers because there are lot of Indian customers in this area. Vada pav does not have Garlic chutney (lasoon dry chutney) which is an essential component of vada pav. Anywhere else you order vada pav, it comes with the chutney already spread on the bun. Here it's a plain bun with a fried aloo bonda inside. They toss a couple of containers of green chutney and sweet chutney (the same one provided with samosas) into your Togo bag (for which you get charged 10 cents) but the flavors are missing. Cholle Bhatura 6 months before was nice and big but now they made it worse. It's only that we are eating pure maida and small in size. Bhatura dough has 8 ingredients but looks like they removed suji and curd from the dough and saving some cost. That's how you loose your name in market when you cut corner in quality. Why in and out , McDonald are successful becuase come what may they maintain quality and don't change often You can increase price but don't cut ingredients and maintain quality.
